HomeTVAll My ChildrenMini Ratings Rave: General Hospital TIES Young and Restless Among Women 18-49!! Jamey Giddens March 4, 2011 All My Children, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, One Life to Live, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and The Restless 18 Comments While I'm sitting here chewing on my nails, waiting for Toups to post the full ratings for the week of Feb. 21 over at Soap Opera Network, I'll have to settle for an ABC press release for now. According to the Mouse House, General Hospital was the No. 1 program among women 18-49 for the week, tied with CBS Daytime's The Young and the Restless at 1.3 in the most coveted demo. This was the first time GH was at the top of W18-49 since Oct. of 2008. Well, it took long enough, but it looks like the return of Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo (Brenda) and/or the stunt casting of the worst Academy Awards host in history aka James Franco (Franco) finally paid off! Log in to Reply met March 4, 2011 well kudos to GH. About time someone or something knock Y&R and their terrible stories off their high horse. I hope Y&R now get a sense that people are not interested in their two-bit recycled shit. anyway back to work, but Kudos to GH. Log in to Reply GHfan-4now March 4, 2011 Ratings went up for GH??? I do wonder why??? Perhaps because they FINALLY used a majority of the cast that we know and love??? (At least the majority that we could actually see onscreen???) Perhaps because we were actually reminded that we were watching a soap opera and not Goodfellas??… At least until the car went all BOOMKATZ on us outside the pavilion! Perhaps because some of us folk like good old fashioned soapy weddings???? I don’t even begrudge GH that much of a bump in the ratings. They deserved it because even I got misty eyed watching Sonny/Brenda finally tie the knot, as did some other folks like me who were completely blah and skeptical to the whole thing before it began. Also, shout out to OLTL! Bout time they got some recognition for being awesome, soapy, goodness! It was also the lead to Emma’s birth. There were also stories involving Tracy, Luke, Laura, and Scotty (when Scotty kidnapped Laura and took her to LA), Liason, and Jolu. There were also some very special moments between Liz and Robin that emphasized female friendship nicely. It was all about romance, love, couples and family with just the right blend of familiar favorites and newer characters. It’s obvious that the viewers want love, weddings and babies. I’m glad they were included in this wedding like carnival whenever they include them they manage to bring it in…. Bold and Beautiful took a big hit and is bleeding viewers wonder what they need to do… I like Y/R and don’t find all their stories terrible it seems about 4 million still feel the same; just as GH is not absolute no TV show is but at least I find it watchable and at times I can’t say the same about GH…its still the same crew eating air hogging all the story lines. My only problem is that Guza gets rewarded with his hack writing so I have to take the bitter with the sweet. GH only writes for a “select few” but I hear Matt is off the bench after years of not having much; I’ll have to check him out he’s one of my favs. Log in to Reply jlafferty23 March 4, 2011 WOHOOO! Well deserved. I hope they keep it up. Log in to Reply watchingallday March 4, 2011 I have no problem giving 100% of credit to Brenda and Sonny’s wedding. Even though IDGAF about either of these characters or their love story/wedding, I understand that a lot of people do, so I am sure that them finally getting married got people to tune in. What I do not accept even a little bit is anyone tuning in to see that Franco crap! They absolutely did not the last two times he was there, so there is no reason to think he had anything to do with a ratings increase. His character and story are stupid and his acting is terrible on the show. Log in to Reply pennywise555 March 4, 2011 Well it would help Y&R to bring on some younger men. They get rid of Brad, Jt, Cane, Ronan (?), Chance, and Ryder, and keep Jeffery and Tucker? WHY? Ashley doesn’t need to be dating a man a decade older than her- she can be paired with a man in his 40’s. And Gloria can run Gloworm without Jeffery. I would love to see Chance be developed as the :crown: heir apparent :crown: at Chancellor Industries. I’m sure Kay, Jill, and Nina would like him to run it someday. Log in to Reply elc914 March 4, 2011 I totally agree watchingallday there is no way the ratings went up because of Franco. The wedding yes but James Franco no way. Personally don’t care for him or is over the top acting. Could careless about his return or if I never see him on gh again Gh doesnt need him. That’s all they need is good writing! Log in to Reply THEBEST March 4, 2011 This is the second to the final nail in AMC’s coffin…damn. I am happy for GH, YR, and OLTL. It’s great that 4 out of the top 5 daytime programs were soaps…listen up, Madison AVE!!! Log in to Reply ktuc March 4, 2011 I assumed it was in hopes to see Sonny & Brenda both blown to bits! Log in to Reply curacaoman March 4, 2011 Yes, but what were the OVERALL RATINGS? Log in to Reply JAQ March 4, 2011 You know, now I am REALLY mad at GH! HEADLINE about ratings, and whose face is shown?? VGM. So all credit goes to her??? That is how TPTB think. :Sp :Sp :Sp :Sp :Sp :Sp :Sp :Sp :Sp Now that is really sickening. And in TPBT sick :Sp minds, the killing of Jake will be “icing” on the cake for ratings. |( |( Ohhhhhhhhh that makes me mad! >) >) >) Log in to Reply OldGHFan March 4, 2011 Seriously, on what planet does James Franco get for the increase in ratings for GH. He was barely on for 5 minutes! ABC sure knows how to spin things. Log in to Reply EricasEvilTwin March 4, 2011 This week gave the men decent story – jason reacting to sam in peril, Jax reacting to carly’s decision and Alexis’s insight, Sonny reacting to Brenda revealing her secret, Dante scrambling to beg for Lulu’s forgiveness, Patrick reacting to Robins heartbreak, Luke trying to win over Tracy and her finally leaning on him….but if you notice the stories were almost all about the WOMEN. Women wanting to watch women cetric storylines…who’da thunk?? Log in to Reply JAQ March 4, 2011 I think no matter which way you look at it, VGM gets the credit for the ratings. Elton John LOVES both her and James. I can deal with James. He isn’t on much to really matter. Log in to Reply Leave a Reply Cancel Reply You must be logged in to post a comment.
