DC #622: BOMBSHELL Michael Muhney Interview

He's BAAACK! That's right The Young and the Restless lovers, Michael Muhney aka the dastardly Adam Newman, returns to the Daytime Confidential podcast. Tune in to hear the passionate actor talk with Luke Kerr, Jamey Giddens and Jillian Bowe about the goings on in Genoa City and the rest of the soap game.

Now that his damsel in perennial distress Sharon (Sharon Case) is playing opposum, while hugging baby lambs on some farm off in God's country, who would Muhney like to see Adam paired with? His answer may surprise you, but not if you're capable of following the impressive actor's stream of consciousness poetic waxings.

What does Muhney think of the current state the daytime television industry finds itself in? Hear why he says soaps have to step up their game to stick around. Then Muhney goes IN about his views on the Daytime Emmy nomination process, taking NATAS to task for what he feels is a system that doesn't see the best and brightest of daytime receive the recognition they deserves. Fasten your seatbelts kiddies, we haven't had a podcast this hot-like-fiya in a long time!

OMG You guys were SPEECHLESS when he suggested an Adam and Victor pairing! Was that an inside joke?? LOL Jamey was like "We're just trying to digest what you just said!" LOL Ummmm What was up with that??

I thought he meant "couple" in the non-romantic sense. I think Adam and Victor have a very complicated dynamic/relationship. They both "hate" each other on the surface, but I think there's a bunch of bravado masking a lot of pain and disappointment. I think MM and EB have phenomenal chemistry that's not sexual and is a close second to MM and SC's chemistry.

I was more shocked that Muhney slipped in that seemingly undetected comment about "how you leave, or how 'd you come...that's what she said". I cackled so loudly at my desk, I scared the cube farm @ work.

Michael Muhney, you devil you!

Thank you DC and Michael Muhney for one of the most halariously honest, and well spoken inteviews. I've listened to it at least three times. I love that Muhney has hopes for the soaps. The way that he spoke so pationately about the drama just sent a good feeling all through me because it just shows that people do care, not just those in the blogousphere. I loved that he called out the emmy's and co. I loved all the dimensions that he talked about with the Adam character.

I'm going to be honest. I love to hate Adam Newman, but I would love to see him and Chloe, that would be awesome.

I believe that is more people had this same kind of enthusiam both behind of and in front of the camera, and that daytime wasn't seen as a genre that people collectively rolled their eyes at when people were looking while eating up "their shows" while no ones watching, that things would be a whole hell of a lot different.

Michael Muhney is the truth!!! Wow, what a spectacular guest and he was so on-point. I need to hear more soap actors who give a damn enough to be critical of the genre. I FLOVE Michael Muhney for he's got the guts and smarts and the good taste to quote Richard Pryor!

StefanStavros, if you listen to the interview he doesn't mean a "couple" in the romantic sense like Restless Vixen said. I think MM said that also. It is just like when we joke and say the best "couple" is Stephanie and Brooke or Viki and Dorian or Victor and Jack.

Y&R is so lucky to have Michael Muhney in its cast. He has become a great addition to the show and he actually knows more about his character than the writers of the show do! He appreciates the show, his fellow actors and respects the fans!

The chemistry that has developed between him and Sharon Case, Eric Braeden, Michelle Stafford, Josh Morrow, Peter Bergman, Angell Conwell, and Eileen Davidson is just fun to watch.

Thanks for a great interview and hopefully many more to come!

Great interview and he was spot on about the Daytime Emmys. The whole process is such a joke. I will never forget when Dee Hall got so much flack for sending around tapes of her best scenes to voting members of the academy and essentially campaigning for a nomination. The same way primetime stars campaign and the same way film actors campaign. They treated her like she was a serial killer or something.

The truth is, daytime actors have very little time to sit down and watch other soaps and performances and therefore the Daytime Emmys becomes nothing more than a popularity contest. What's wrong with sending around tapes? What's wrong with doing a "for your consideration" ad in one of the trades. That makes more sense than bringing donuts and coffee to the set and is more honest.

At least the old Soap Opera Digest Awards never pretended to be anything other than what it was, a big fun party to celebrate the popular kids.

I am sure your interview was good. I listened to about 15 minutes of it. Perhaps if you would break these pod casts into sergments I would listen to the whole thing, but to sit here at the computer for over and hour to listen, well.... it just is not going to happen.

@ Jillian, in this one particular case, Sharon isn't a slonkey! She tried to get some space from her GC life last year in New Orleans, but Nick/Adam chased her down and didn't give her the space she needed. While I don't think she would abandon her children necessarily, I can understand why she faked her death once the opportunity arose because neither guy gave her the space she needed at the time. Now, she is getting that space and once her head is cleared, she'll return to GC. I just wish she would return sans the veterinarian, but oh well....

All that being said, LOVE the interview.

Really enjoyed that podcast and it seems that he was indeed echoing much of what Ms. Rowell had to say, which leads me to believe that despite his claims to not know who the clicks are that he does. I hope for his sake he's not punished for speaking out by having his air time reduced. This is a flaw in the system that has gone on for many many years before Mr. Muhny arrived on the scene. As wonderful as it is for him to speak out, I doubt he will make any difference. It's up to those in more powerful positions to make change and they have their own interests for keeping it the way they do. There are more politics behind it than just it being about the popular kids. I was glad MM even if it was via Richard Pryor, basically told Jillian to cool it with her slonkey comments and Sharon bashing. One time is okay but her need to go on and on about it got old. In that way it seems like DC podcasts are sometimes about the hosts ( with the exception of Luke) pushing their favorites, instead of discussing the show and trying to be objective for the fans who may like characters the hosts don't. It's not just Phyllis fans who tune in and in fact there are quite a few fans out there who do like Sharon and who do like Shadam. It would be nice if the hosts who may not like Sharon, would remember this and perhaps next time try to be more objective and ask relevant questions instead of pimping MS/Phyllis all the time. I thought that was what she had Nelson for? On that note thank Mr. Muhney for having the good sense to say no to that horrible idea of phadam.

Knoxville, it was a joke and that's how I feel about the character of Sharon. She has stopped thinking with her head and now thinks with her sex drive. Muhney knew I was joking and even say so. I'm not "pimping" anyone as you say it, seems like you want me to "pimp" your fanbase. THAT is how I feel of Sharon, I'm equal opportunity with them all on the show and will continue doing so.
