Now THIS is what I am talking about! Packaging Digest has a story up about how The Young and the Restless is planning to release an actual brand of cosmetics, based on the soap's fictional Jabot Cosmetics!
"For the first time our fans can own a piece of the show, and at the same time, share in the storyline as it unfolds live on TV," Maria Bell, producer and head writer, The Young and the Restless, remarks. "The brand launch is going to be completely integrated to the show. The back story on how Jabot started and product development is going to be featured in Y&R story lines, and we are going to use actual Jabot products on-set with the same packaging as you will see in retail. Plus, viewers will soon see a new Jabot set as well!"
Dammit, MAB you and I are determined to just have a love/hate relationship, ain't we? I was too thru with Y&R's showrunner just the other day over her firing of my Maura West (Diane), now she goes and does something saavy and out-of-the-box like this. No, I'm not being sarcastic. This really is clever!
According to the article, such products as Overnight Sensation, Camera Ready Color and Red Carpet Collections, "as well as a luxurious fragrance and body care additions launching in late 2011", will be sold at www.shopjabot.com. Lord if only my late Grandmother was alive for me to buy her some Jabot skin cream!
Tracey Bregman (Lauren) will help launch the product line at this year's Daytime Emmys in Las Vegas on June 19.
