HomeTagsComings & GoingsWill Judge Tamara Tunie Throw The Book at John Black This Fall on DAYS? Jillian Bowe August 24, 2011 17 Comments Salem, U.S.A. is getting a new judge, who will look very familiar to CBS soap fans. TVLine is reporting Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star and As The World Turns alum Tamara Tunie is heading to Days of Our Lives. Teaser promos for DAYS' upcoming September reboot have John Black (Drake Hogestyn) being arrested for a crime shortly after returning home with his lady love Marlena (Deidre Hall). Tunie will play Judge Weston, who presides over John's eventual trial. Tunie is slated to hit Salem on Nov. 18. Fear not SVU fans; Tunie's stint on the sudser is a brief one and she will still be appearing on the hit NBC crime drama when it returns this fall. I’m surprised that she’s moonlighting on Days not that I mind, Days can use a little color in meaningful roles. I wonder who put this deal together. Log in to Reply soapbaby August 24, 2011 I am surprised Ms. Tunie is showing up on DAYS as well. DAYS is pulling out all of the stops this Fall! Log in to Reply al0792 August 24, 2011 This Could be exciting new Character for days. A stong African American- they can slowly introduce a new family. Get rid of the dead weight like daniel, mel, quinn, T. I am sure there are a few more.. Log in to Reply Dariclone August 24, 2011 This would be great! I’ve been watching a lot of SVu and Tamara is awesome! Log in to Reply harlee490 August 24, 2011 I would love for Tamara become a permanent fixture in Salem. She is awesome actress and wonderful for many years as Jessica. She could mix it up with Lexie….lets hope she can at least be recurring. Jessica Griffin wasn’t a push over kind of gal. Jessica was always portrayed as intelligent, career minded, head strong woman…not no wimpy ass woman on soaps today. Like any good soap heroine she had her ups & downs with love…but never bowed down to no man. YOU GO Tamara!! I can’t wait for Days now! Log in to Reply SoapGuyFlorida August 24, 2011 She is a great actress, and a Steeler fan to boot.. Glad she’s not leaving SVU though, great show. Log in to Reply angrierblackerman August 24, 2011 Wow! Tamara Tunie!!! I love her! Can’t wait to see her on the show in any capacity. I hope she sticks around for a bit! Log in to Reply josser August 24, 2011 Somehow, I doubt Ms. Tunie would trade in her primetime salary for daytime’s in comparison chump change. Log in to Reply harlee490 August 24, 2011 Ms. Tunie did both for years appearing on SVU & ATWT at the same time so it could be possible she would do both again. She has always supported daytime. Log in to Reply marknsprmo August 25, 2011 Happy to see Tamara Tunie on my screen anytime. I am sure she is saving up some money to make another movie so she will take whatever job offered. Just as a side note though, atleast four people already on canvas break a law every day and noone can touch them. Why is it that John is getting picked on? Ofcourse he will be found not guilty. We can’t have our hero in jail! And I really do hate a court case on soaps that ends up that the wrong guy is tried. I know it happens but when doesn’t it happen on soaps? Log in to Reply SwanQueen59 August 25, 2011 I loved her pairing with Peter Parros as Dr. Ben on ATWT. Good times during the period that they were there. 0:) Log in to Reply alstonboy4315 August 25, 2011 Tamara Tunie represents a time during soap opera history when trendsetters like Douglas Marland, Bill Bell Sr. and Agnes Nixon VALUED their African American audience and showed their appreciation by giving African Americans STRONG, well-written stories that were worthy of their talents. Sadly, those days are gone, but Tamara has always been great and I hope that DAYS will treat her right. Log in to Reply harlee490 August 25, 2011 Alston…  here, here I will drink to that..lol. So right how African-American actors were so strong by the great writers…Gilly, Hamp, Kat, David…I know I could go on…appreciate your statement. Log in to Reply alstonboy4315 August 25, 2011 Harlee490– Cheers and thanks for the support! Log in to Reply soapbaby August 25, 2011 Oh Harlee – Now I am all verklempt over GL. Lawd, I loved Kat/David. Monti Sharpe was EVERYTHING to me when he was on GL. That period of GL was so great and makes me proud to be a soap fan. Log in to Reply SoapArmageddon August 25, 2011 If you think Y&R is bad, I invite you my fellow DC-ites to check out Days and see what rock bottom is. I know a lot of people are waiting for September to see how the new writers are going to breathe life back into this show. But in the meantime, diehard fans like me are witnessing a cautionary tale in purple every freaking day. A quick sample: Chad got shot in error by his dad’s henchman who couldn’t have been three feet away. The bullet mysteriously moved from his shoulder to his arm. Then two days later, our hunky young hero was playing pool and winning with not a grimace….Talk about continuity. Sample 2: Kinsey, a heretofore typical teenager, decides out of the blue that she wants to be a hooker and sell herself to dirty old men. This is Dena Higley’s Salem. Some days I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. One might ask why I continue to watch a show that I find so dreadful. My answer is that Days still has the hottest men in all of daytime. Log in to Reply soapbaby August 25, 2011 ^^ DAYS is pretty bad but sad to say, it’s been worse. I have worked hard to block all memories of any one with the last name Lockhart. But I had to turn it off completely when I just couldn’t sit thru the Carly/Nicholas rehab scenes. Unbearable. I can no longer look at Crystal Chappell again. All I will ever see is her scrunched-up face and pursed lips overacting. This new Nicholas is horrendous. At least September 26 is a light at the end of the tunnel for viewers whereas Y&R viewers have no date to hope for any improvement.
