At this point we need to focus on saving the soaps before saving the Emmys. Log in to Reply Tmaddy32 September 1, 2011 Here is a simple Emmy solution this year. Hand anything to OLTL…..But we have this process (and Frank V. poor choice in choices reels. I mean between the Musical for Series and a comedic episode for Eddie Anderson where he is outshine by tuc.) who knows what will happened. Attacking a character is attacking the writing, and the writing for Adam isn’t all that great either so he should welcome it. In addition Adam is a love to hate character for some, if there aren’t any posters hating him that’s not good. I realize MM hasn’t been with Y&R for long, but the hate and the disgust for the writing is justified. It’s just not bad, it’s horrible. The negativity on the boards simply reflect the doom and gloom of the show. Romance and tender love scenes have been replaced by desk sex and murder. The fan/actor wars are caused by Sony/CBS & MAB too. They over hire new actors and sideline others we have followed for decades. We have a right to complain. Y&R has a great cast, they need new writers, and the management should stop replacing our vets with actors from other soaps. I would understand hiring the younger generation, but not senior actors from other soaps, to replace our senior ones. Casting is an issue too and there are quite a few actors, while good, don’t fit the role, but opinions vary on who that is. Posters should be able to discuss that too. Adam is a re-cast, and some posters will never accept the new one. Ask JW or PB, it’s just the way it is on a soap. Viewers become attached. Most viewers don’t go to message boards to play what were your five favorite story lines of all time, or heap praise on actors or characters all day. They want to discuss, critique, and offer suggestions. Some of the criticism will be unwarranted, not phrased nicely, or just stupid, but so what? Just ignore it. If all the harsh criticism and suggestions are censored is anyone really learning anything? Why not see the extreme views good and bad? Delusional, obsessed and stupid posters can be quite entertaining also. Log in to Reply TheBigBang September 2, 2011 And I logged in to say, Amen,TruthTakesTime2000! This man really does love to hear himself talk. Didn’t anybody ever tell him less was more? Geez. I’m also sick of seeing this guy get pimped like he’s a god or something. First Nelson, now DC. I would get embarrassed gushing about somebody like that so often. Don’t these people have a voice in the back of their heads telling them, enough is enough. You’re starting to sound like a ditzy little school girl with an obsessive crush? The constant praise is starting to get annoying. I feel like it’s disrespectful to the cast. MM isn’t the only actor on Y&R. It’s not fair he single handedly gets so much credit and attention for an ensemble show. MM came onto an established soap thanks to the actors and actresses who have been on for more then a decade. Making it #1. Nobody gives a shit about the Emmy’s or the corrupted process when the writing needs more then enough attention. If something needs fixing, it’s that! With Y&R losing so many viewers each week, he should be thankful everytime he gets a new paycheck. So shut up about the damn Emmy’s (who cares anyways with four soaps left on the air) and appreciate what you have, a job. Because with the way things are going, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony/CBS finally decides to pull the life support on this sinking ship. Y&R is a mess. AN EMMY FOR JULIA PACE MITCHELL Log in to Reply Restless Vixen September 2, 2011 Well I, for one, lurve Michael Muhney! As a fellow talker, I enjoy his interviews because he has a lot to say, and he says it with insight, intelligence, but also goofiness and the occasion hint of the profane and vulgar. He’s my kind of guy! He’s not the only actor from soaps I find fascinating, but I enjoy his interviews because I think his perspective is interesting. Maybe some of us soap fans, as well as the creators and players, have become complacent with the status quo because we’ve lived with it so long and we’ve become defeatist. He hasn’t, so even though he’s saying what we already know, maybe someone like him is needed to shake things up (not just him, but he seems more than willing). IMO, the last thing soaps need to do is go gentle into that good night. There’s a whole lot of people lumbering around going “Ho hum, soaps are dead, oh well, cue up the swan song until I land another gig”. I respect people that want fair play and who just don’t give up because something looks bleak. I don’t expect him to single handledly save or improve Y&R, but I would not doubt that he has diplomatically suggested character driven ideas around Adam and the Newmans. I didn’t get a sense at all that he said viewers should not criticize the characters or the writing on Y&R. I thought towards the end he was talking about viewers who criticize the actors by taking potshots at them beyond the acting, making assumptions about the actor’s opinions and values, and by misquoting or misrepresenting their expressed opinion. Personally I think this is a tough one to call because it’s highly interpretive with a whole bunch of grey area. Social media by nature is prone to miscommunication and misunderstanding from both sides because it’s the written word. Intentions and tone are not always clear. Plus, right or wrong, anything thing you say can and probably will be used against you (this is true beyond a Miranda warning), especially for celebrities. There’s a fine line between constructive criticism and vicious vitriol. One person’s good snark might be what someone else calls crossing the line. I don’t have the answers, but I do wonder how well someone people would take the same level of criticism they dish out. I pose that to celebrities and fans alike. See, I said I’m a talker Anyways, I enjoy the podcasts of Michael Muhney interviews. They are fun and engaging. The DC crew seems to enjoy them, too. Jamey, how did you not know that Michael grew up in Dallas? But he was born in Chicago, so we got first dibs on him. That gift of gab is all Chicago! Log in to Reply alstonboy4315 September 2, 2011 Maria Bell IS the enemy, An_Emmy…. Anyone who watches Y&R can see that. 95% of her stories suck, she doesn’t like minority characters, has no consistency, pays little to NO attention to the show’s history and can’t even coordinate her outfits for the red carpet. Simply put, she’s a hot mess!!! And Michael Muhney is a sweetheart. His Twitter bromance with Josh Morrow is the stuff that dreams are made of . Watching them go back and forth is truly a delight. They really do act like REAL LIFE brothers. It’s so cute and endearing. And Josh is soooooo clever and witty that it makes me wonder why he’s forced to play a character who is such a lugnut. And until Maria Bell is shown the door, Y&R will continue to be a shell of its former self. Log in to Reply Nathang1983 September 2, 2011 TruthTakesTime: I agree, word for word! I can’t stand the Adam character at all. He is all snark, all the time, and it’s very grating. I constantly roll, bug out my eyes, you name it! I can’t say enough how much I can’t stand the character. Michael Muhney is a great actor, but it’s the writing and the lack of character evolution that drives me crazy! He’s such an a-hole, and lately there have been no gray areas. He doesn’t come off, in my opinion, as someone who takes it to the hypocrites of Genoa City, but rather an immature little man who loses his mind when someone crosses him. Somehow, he’s worse than Victor. What did Ashley ever do to him? What did Sharon really do to him? It all goes back to the writing. There are so many gaps in MAB, Sheffer, and Hamner’s writing, that they don’t even have a justification for Adam’s sh*t. It’s really getting tiresome. Log in to Reply Restless Vixen September 2, 2011
How can we REALLY get invested in a character that is snark and sarcasm and nothing more.
Even as a MM and Adam fan, I think you do have a point there. Too much of the same old thing will get old, even if it’s something you like initially. My fear with Y&R right now is so many (hell, all of them) are quite one-note. And that is a one-way trip to Boringville. When I get bored and then indifferent about Y&R, that’s not a good sign. And right now that’s where I’m heading. I just flat out did not watch today. I think MM can play a lot more than just the snark and sarcasm. I think that’s why some viewers really liked Shadam. It was a chance to see Adam (played by MM) do something else besides gaslighting and framing Victor for a crime. CE’s version had that chance with the relationship with Heather. I think the actors on this show, with some exceptions but including MM, are carrying this show in spite of the writing and not because of it. Log in to Reply matealestlmo September 2, 2011 Okay, I’ve just about had enough of you lugheads continuing to bash Michael Muhney, especially when he’s not there to defend himself and what he said. He was dead on when he said that people should not be badmouthing other human beings when those other human beings are not around to defend themselves (thus the reason why Michael posted the very long blog about that very subject a couple of weeks back). I for one will defend Michael Muhney because if I were in his shoes, I’d want to know, as a public figure if people were badmouthing me without knowing the real me. Truthtakestime2000, why don’t you zip it for once, huh?! Did I badmouth you or did Michael Muhney badmouth you?! No. I just told you to shut up. Same goes for TheBigBang. FYI: I was the reason that Michael posted that very long blog a couple of weeks back. I was the one who tweeted him and told him that he was being bashed on the daytimeconfidential.com message boards and threads with regards to Jamey Giddens’ article on the state of Y&R. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Oh, and one last thing, do unto other as you would have them do unto you. You would be wise to remember that. Oh, I know I’ll get some of you folks badmouthing me and I’m sure alstonboy will let me know if that does happen. Because I will be back here and I will defend myself to the very end and it is a battle you will lose. Log in to Reply sondra September 2, 2011 I adore Michael Muhney. However, Y&R has become almost unwatchable these days. Except for scenes with Michael or Phyllis I find myself fastforwarding through most scenes. Just keeps jumping from one thing to another. No continuity of storyline. I won’t be surprised to see it slip from the #1 soap opera. Log in to Reply soapjunkie88 September 2, 2011 truthtakestime2000 – Say and think about the character of Adam what you want, but don’t start bashing the actor. Of course his fans will come and get right back at you. I do think that many things on this show are wrong at the moment and it will take a lot to get it back on track. It’s not like we are seeing just one bad episode … we are seeing MONTHS of bad episodes. I know Michael tried to stay positive and loyal to his bosses about the Shadam pairing, but let’s get real here. They had a great thing going. With Sharon around Adam was much more likable. It was like whatever he did, she brought the human out in him. She made him vulnerable and a lot what Adam did was more justifiable because he showed us this other side. Now, the writers have screwed Shadam up because of that ridiculous romance with farm guy Sam. And they did it in a way where it is hard to ever get back to what Sharon and Adam had. Adam showed that he knowingly can turn on Sharon. That she IS NOT the one big exception. That’s what the whole point of Shadam was … that you really had the feeling that Adam would never ever hurt Sharon intentionally again. But to leave her at the altar … destroying evidence that can clear her proved that she’s not an exception. Now she’s just another one who got screwed big time by Adam. And hearing Michael’s words how much passion Sharon and he put in that relationship made me realize that he must be disappointed and upset too with the writing … even if he couldn’t say that. Log in to Reply soapfan616 September 2, 2011 F**K the Emmys. Everyone involved should be thinking of quality programming instead of how to get pats on the back from each other. Of course awards shows are scams. Big surprise! Of course they are popularity contests. Big surprise! By this time next year there may be only three daytime dramas left. So there should be plenty of space on all the ballots… Come on, nothing better to get fired up about besides the Emmy’s!! Log in to Reply jphelps September 2, 2011 I don’t know MM but he sounds like most other high profile actors out there who start believing their own press, Well that is if Nelson “Nadia Bjorlin is a great actress” Branco counts.(And I love Nadia but lets get real). He’s not even a big fish in a small pond. He has the right to express how he feels. THis is the USA right but people also have a right to challenge his comments and not like him. NO I don’t know him but I don’t like his attitude. And if he is responsible for getting message board posts deleted or censored shame on him. And the emmys people really. Why not do something productive like Crystal Chappell, develop your own soap and show the people in charge that real quality soap can be developed and written for(well not that Venice fit that) but at least she’s doing something productive for the genre. All awards play favorites and acting like the Daytime Emmys are some exception is ridiculous. Does anyone here think Sandra Bullock Deserved her Oscar as nice as she might be over Meryl or Gabourey Sidibe from Precious. How about Russell Crowe in Gladiator I mean really. ALl awards are political. Log in to Reply tedew September 2, 2011 … actually Russell Crowe was good in Gladiator. (It was Tom Hanks who did not even deserve to be listed that year.) Log in to Reply david46208 September 2, 2011 Ain’t much love in this room. But I gotta say I like the man. He’s speaking out and continuing to do so. I’m happy for that. People like him and Victoria Rowell. Really love the genre an want fans to be happy with the product they are getting. So that’s good. Other then that Y&R is just horrible. And that is that. No need for me to tune back in for that mess. I mean i’d hate to see any daytime drama go. Yet if you keep abusing the fans whom have stuck by you eventually they’ll pull a Tina Turner and leave. Log in to Reply alstonboy4315 September 2, 2011 Maria Bell only cares about one thing, well maybe two: 1.) Keeping that massive –and undeservingly so —paycheck coming! 2.) Making sure she makes it to her weekly Botox parties…… Aside from that, she’s a total moron who should have been shown the door LONG ago. I don’t care who tries to defend her, her bull(expletive!) is indefensible. And that’s my FINAL answer regarding this topic. Log in to Reply yojoromo4469 September 2, 2011 Right on Alstonboy and I can depend on U to tell it, like it is. Thank you. Log in to Reply alstonboy4315 September 2, 2011 Yojoromo– Thanks, my friend!!! Log in to Reply jphelps September 2, 2011
… actually Russell Crowe was good in Gladiator. (It was Tom Hanks who did not even deserve to be listed that year.)
Well personally I thought Ed Harris in Pollack and Javier Bardem were better than Crowe and HAnks combined. And Crowe should have won for The Insider where he was phenomenal. But like always happens with the Oscars someone wins for a lessor performance(sound familiar) Denzel Washington winning for Training Day and not for Malcolm X, Paul Newman not winning for The Verdict but winning for The Color of Money. My original point I stand by . the Daytime Emmys are not any more “broken” than any other award and personally I wish these actors would focus their efforts on creating awareness around the genre versus some award show that means zip which was my point about Crystal Chappell. I just think MM likes to hear himself talk. Log in to Reply Renegade_Killerbee September 2, 2011 I can’t stand Michael Muhney.
