CONFIRMED: Procter and Gamble Releases As The World Turns DVD Collection!

Okay, let's try this again! Apparently there was a slight communication hiccup with the rollout, but I just learned from Procter and Gamble Productions' rep the company has in fact made a deal with a distributor to sell a 4-Disc As The World Turns DVD collection! Twenty episodes from the cancelled CBS soap are being offered up on four discs entitled "Great Weddings," "Secrets and Scandals," "Oakdale Through The Years" and "Villains and Vixens."

This move comes on the heels of news that classic P&G soaps have been licensed to air abroad. To get your copy of the 4-disc As The World Turns DVD collection call 1(800) 998-5199. The website for the venture, www.soapclassics.com, is scheduled to go live sometime tonight!

So I'm EXTREMELY excited about these DVD's. It's about time soaps come on DVD. But there's only one thing here that irks me, WHERE ARE MY GL DVD'S?!?! Ok, I feel better now. However, as my mother says, beggers can't be choosers, so I'll take what I can get. YAY for ATWT DVD's!

Hopefully this DVD set will also be released in the Netherlands. ATWT is really popular here. And I think there are enough people who would buy this. For the Dutch soap "Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden" they're even releasing complete seasons (season 5 is scheduled to be released next month).

JAMEY you made my night, I'm calling tomorrow and the picture has CarJack...I'm getting all teary eyed. I love me some Maura & Michael. Why doesn't P&G find a home for AW, ATWT & GL on this side of pond along with the new DVD collections? Jamey tell your rep to put these iconic soaps online, cable, ME TV so die hard fans of P&G soaps can enjoy their stories again!!! Smile Smile Sad(

This was an idea that I sent to Anne Sweeney at ABC before they pulled the plug on AMC and OLTL. If they would have done stuff like this for the soaps before this could have been a great revenue builder. I never really watched ATWT but I might buy this anyway because I love watching classic episodes of soaps.

Great for the ATWT fans, hope they buy them out so they keep coming out and that way the other soaps get theirs on dvd also.
I agree that Guiding Light should be out also, it's my favorite and I would definitely buy them!!!!

thanks blake3b, I'm like you all, I'm a Lighter through & through. That's my favorite soap, then ATWT and AW. She was the original "Hurricane Dinah". I wanted her to have a meaty part on OLTL and it looks like it will be drive by, because Ron can only write for the non talents. Give him someone that could act circles around some those on OLTL. I love to see her and KDP in some scenes. She could probably give McPain some personality. Wink

This is awesome and I will be placing my order today. For those interested, you can also purchase the Bold & The Beautiful early episodes (first 100 episodes) through Amazon.de (german version only) If you're computer savvy, you can extract the video files with the English audio tracks intact. It's great. Only the first 50 are immediately available, but I've pre-ordered the others. The show is known as 'Reich und Schon' in Germany. You can copy the Amazon text into Google translate to read in English. For those interested, I've pasted the link below...

OMG! Seriously??? Guiding Light will be for sure??? OMG I am so buying that right when it comes out!
I would probaby get Another World also, that was such a great show!

And I agree that the GL one needs Beverly McKinsey episodes! Especially the counry club scene on 4th of July with the town regarding Roger. I'd also like to see the ones where Alex tells Billy about Mindy and Roger's affair and her confronting Mindy (by pulling her hair while she's sleeping lol). Damn good scenes!

Speaking of Beverlee Mckinsey, that is a great idea for a dvd collection. Focusing in on hightlights of specific characters. Alex, Reva, Alan, Roger, Harley, The four Musketeers, etc. That would be terrific.

There's something important missing here: LISA!!!!! How could they not do a salute to the show's most legendary female character??? They could've easily done a compilation of scenes from her early days with Bob to her Chicago days with the Eldridges (there are kinescopes from those years in the 1960s that still exist!) and her later marriages to Grant, Whit, Earl and Eduardo (color tapes exist for those stories). On the other hand, I feel that the 'Humiliation" episode from '96 is the time when John Dixon dumped her via videotape, so at least one Lisa story is covered in the collection. But, they should've done better. What about the early years with the Ellen/David romance, and the legendary Penny/Jeff love story? There are kinescopes in the P&G archives that could easily cover that. On the surface a great idea, but the execution could have been better with more respect to history.

Ellichae I was using GL characters as an example. Ofcourse ATWT would have to have a turn as well. Lucinda, Lisa, Tom, John, etc. On AW it would be Iris, Rachel, Marly/Vicki, Donna, Felicia/Cass, Jamie, to name some.

Already placed my order and can't wait for the additional shows to be featured on DVD sets. They had better include an episode featuring one of Nola's classic Hollywood fantasies and some Beverlee McKinsey on the GL set. I would almost kill to see an episode from the late '80s when Alexandra and H.B. were paired up and he took her out on a date, which she assumed to be at the country club, but ended up being at a bowling alley! Other Springfield residents were enjoying bowling some frames, and a frosty Alex thawed enough by episode's end to hike up her emerald green ballgown to show off her bowling shoes and hoist up that bowling ball to bowl the winning frame. Loved it!

Nancy Hughes' prayer...My grandma & mom loved ATWT and because of of that and every Thanksgiving and (it's coming soon) we would say the same prayer every year at Thanksgiving that Nancy would say on ATWT and it was because of matriarchs of my family's love for this soap we still say this prayer at Thanksgiving even though they aren't with us but now it's a family tradition, this is the pray Nancy Hughes always said:

"Oh God, when I have food help me to remember the hungry
When I have work help me to remember the jobless
When I have a home help me to remember those who have no home at all
When I am without pain help me to remember those who suffer
And remembering to help me destroy my complatency
To stir my compassion and be concerned enough to help by word and deed those who cry out for what we take for granted. Amen"
