HomePop ConfidentialCelebritySoap Queen vs. Fashionista Pt. II: Vera Wang Rep Denies General Hospital Diss; Soap’s Costumer Says B.S.! Jamey Giddens October 20, 2011 Celebrity, General Hospital 26 Comments A Vera Wang insider has responded to General Hospital star Nancy Lee Grahn's tweets alleging the fashionista denied GH's costume designer the right to purchase one of Wang's dresses to appear on the series. The source told frock blog Styleite no one from GH had attempted to buy a VW dress! A source at Vera Wang said over the phone Wednesday afternoon that Grahn’s accusations were surprising and unusual. The source says the Vera Wang press office would “love the exposure” of being on a show as big as General Hospital — and pointed out that Wang’s dresses — bridal and otherwise — have been all over television. Wang recently dressed Kim Kardashian for her wedding to basketball player Kris Humphries, and before that, its dresses had been featured on shows like The View, Oprah and The Martha Stewart Show. The source added that turning down a sale under any circumstance would be “very strange.” GH's costumer Mary Iannelli wasn't trying to feel VW on this statement, emailing Styleite that a salesperson from Wang's Melrose Place store had in fact told her to go buy a dress at David's Bridal, which retails Wang's lower end offerings. As Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman, "Big mistake, HUGE!" “Our audience, they claimed, was not their targeted market,” Iannelli wrote. “Never once did I ask to borrow any gowns from Vera Wang. Our intention was to purchase, NOT borrow, so it was insulting to be treated like I was asking for hand outs.” This mess is better than an episode of Sex and The City, Ugly Betty and The Bold and the Beautiful combined! GH's new head writer Garin Wolf should write this Rags-to-Tweets battle into a storyline, featuring Grahn's character Alexis Davis and her style goddess bestie Katie Howard! Keep checking back with Daytime Confidential for the next exciting chapter of As The Couture Turns. Team Nancy Lee! Sounds like VW wasn’t aware of this exchange or wasn’t there for it. Log in to Reply josser October 20, 2011 Go GH! To be fair, this was not Vera Wang herself who dissed GH. It was a sales person in a remote office. However, for Vera Wang’s corporate office to lie is cynical and pathetic. Wang’s PR flack should have apologized for the confusion and offered to work with GH in the future. Why lie like this? Corporations always feel that lying is the best policy until whatever the issue is blows up. Wang’s company could have avoided further embarrassment by being honest. Log in to Reply thecourt99 October 20, 2011 joss…how do we know that the corporate office lied? Seems to me, the salesperson never told VW what happened…and the GH costumer never went to HQ, rather going on the word of the local saleperson. the corporate office said that the accusations were strange and unusual…but nothing to indicate that they had any knowledge of the transaction. I think VW is getting a bad rap because of a sales person that apparently needs to be fired. Log in to Reply sweetiepie October 20, 2011 I can most definately see some snooty sales person on Melrose acting as though helping GH find a suitable gown was beneath (not to mention unprofitable) for her. Too bad, that because of someones attitude, VW now is in the middle of a public relations firestorm. My advice would be to admit that someone in the organization made some ill advised remarks, apologize, and move on. team Nancy Lee!!!! Log in to Reply samanthadelayed October 20, 2011 Hmm… you know what, even if this was just a sales person telling the GH rep to kick rocks it is still SHITTY! I hate snooty store people and their “KNOW YOUR PLACE” attitudes! grrr Team Nancy Lee! Log in to Reply GAgal28 October 20, 2011 Exactly as I thought! It was an associate from her Melrose store that said this, NOT Vera herself. It’s incredibly unfair to criticize, & crucify Vera (herself) for something her associate did, & from her Melrose store none the less. I say that cause her main boutique is in NYC. I knew they didn’t meet with Vera, as she is an incredibly busy lady. I mean bridal fashion week just ended & the actual designer doesn’t just meet with people any old time of the day. You have to book an appointment, IF you’re even lucky to get an appointment. As for this associate clearly she should apologize & I’m sure Vera will do something about this. Log in to Reply alstonboy4315 October 20, 2011 Hmmmmmm…………and the lies thicken. Still on Team Nancy. Why would she lie about something like that? Sounds like someone’s trying to play damage control. I call SHENANIGANS!!! Log in to Reply josser October 20, 2011 theCourt99, In situations like this, a corporate office would have contacted the field office. If it didn’t follow up before replying to the press, the PR team is incompetent. Realistically, most PR offices just want to blow this stuff off. Most companies lie: ABC lied about its soaps. BP lied about the Gulf oil spill. Think about the PR flack who lied about her account being hacked when she tweeted about being happy that AMC was cancelled. Log in to Reply soapster October 20, 2011 Exactly Gagal I knew Vera wasn’t there during this and had no personal involvment whatsoever she probably still doesn’t know what is going on. All the name calling and hysterics Nancy and some at this site need to sit down they are making way too much out of this. The salesgirl was rude, happens all the time. Who needs to apologize is Nancy calling people out like that without the entire story. I don’t see Vera Wang getting any neg press about this exactly the only people make a big deal about this is Nancy on twitter and this site. Log in to Reply soapster October 20, 2011 Josstheguy From the actual article and not just the snippets posted here, it seems like someone from Stlyeite blog contacted Vera Wang, that persons probably just stated what she knew, no one from GH made a formal request for one of their gowns and it seems like the GH costumer just went to the store to buy something and was meet by a rude employee. That employee needs to be spoken to and sent for some training on dealing with customer other than that I see no reason to place any blame on Vera Wang this isn’t some contest all this team this or that. Rudness happens everywhere and some of was coming from the inital report on this site. Log in to Reply SoapArmageddon October 20, 2011 I don’t see this as much of a PR disaster for Vera Wang at all. In a week or so, we’ll be on to the next over-hyped non-story. A real disaster is how I would describe Vera’s new black, blue and tan wedding gowns. Those things are horrendous. NLG has way too much time on her hands. I wonder if she’s still loving Garin Wolf. Log in to Reply thecourt99 October 20, 2011 Joss…i didn’t mean to sound naive. I know that companies lie. My question is what was the lie this time around? I would agree that that the corporate office probably should have contacted the field off before responding to the press. But the corporate office spoke purposely vague. they said it was “surprising and unusual”. They said turning down a sale would be “strange”. Based on what I read, the corporate office never said that they didn’t tell GH no…which would have been a lie. So where is the lie? The salesgirl was rude and needs to be fired. The GH wardrobe person probably should have contacted the corporate office rather than go to a local chain…but I am probably speaking out of turn since I don’t know the standard practice. I can understand VW taking the hit, because whether she was involved in it or not, it is still her name attached to all of this. Such is life. What matters now is what she does about it. I saw those gowns, and they are hideous. Log in to Reply appleridge October 20, 2011 Vanessa Marcil Tweeted: Vera Wang said no to GH Wrdrobe for a dress for Brenda as well. TRUTH @dcconfidential Pt. II Vera Wang Rep Denies General Hospital Diss; Log in to Reply jphelps October 20, 2011 Well if Vera Wang said no to the Brenda dress why the hell would they go back to Vera Wang unless this is the same incident. Didn’t VM get some Oscar De La Renta gown anyway. WHo the hell cares really. As someone said the real tragedy are those new hideous wedding dress designs. Why GH would want those no clue. Log in to Reply liason4real October 20, 2011 Vera Wang? Oscar de la Renta? Heck, no wonder GH is always over budget. Log in to Reply thecourt99 October 20, 2011 VM’s tweet adds another layer to this incident as well. I agree with jphelps…why did GH go back if they said no before? And again…did they go corporate or did they go to just the local sales office? Is the issue that this time the local office was rude about it? I will chime in and say I hate the new dresses. I was watching a bridal show and saw a black wedding gown that was gorgeous! It wasn’t VW. Log in to Reply GHFan777 October 20, 2011 VM said they would be happy to work with her on her own personal dress…but not GH’s….I think that is pretty clear. Log in to Reply jphelps October 20, 2011
VM said they would be happy to work with her on her own personal dress…but not GH’s….I think that is pretty clear.
Again why would GH go back then if they did. VW’s designs are crap anyway and that new line is hideous. But why is GH who is strapped for money paying thousands of dollars for a dress anyway. I heard that dress they got Brenda was $50,000. THey can afford that? That dress wasn’t that great either. I better not hear those actors moaning about paycuts when they can blow money like that on stupid crap when an off the rack dress could have been just as beautiful. Hell Becky Herbst designs dresses why not have one of your own actors design something versus GH thinking they are so elitist they need some overrated VW crap. Log in to Reply giogio October 20, 2011 I dont think Nancy would lie – Im team Nancy, plus I never liked Vera Wangs clothes and I consider myself to be a fashion snob. Log in to Reply Amy October 21, 2011 This is ALL on Vera Wang, their stores speak for the brand. Obviously, the Melrose store didn’t feel the need to call corporate on which of Vera Wangs designs appear on tv, so they speak for the brand. If the Melrose store does not speak for the brand, then corporate should have apologized for their store and made it right. As far as I can tell, Vera Wang isn’t taking any responsibility, that speaks volumes in how they treat their customers. Log in to Reply GHteenybopper October 21, 2011 …..both sides seem to be getting exposure over this..could all be fake and manufactured on both sides Log in to Reply The_Moustache October 21, 2011 Vera herself needs to hold a press conference and apologize to the entire daytime industry for the actions of her employees. Log in to Reply Ms 45 October 21, 2011 I too have some time on my hands, so after reading this story yesterday, I contacted VW online: Did Ms. Wang or one of her representatives really refuse access to someone from the General Hospital wardrobe dept. with the comment that Ms. Wang “doesn’t do TV and especially not Daytime TV”? If so, how rude! You can do a Kohl’s line and dress a vapid celebutante like Kim Karadashian but daytime drama is beneath you? If this really happened, you owe the GH lady an apology as well as the legions of soap fans. If it didn’t go down that way, you should set the record straight. So either they’re lying now or setting the record straight. At least they’re not acting like it’s OK to diss daytime and that makes me happy. At the end of the day the label doesn’t read “Shop Girl on Melrose”, it reads “Vera Wang”. The Melrose employee represents the brand, and if he/she spoke out of turn, Vera Wang (the brand AND the woman) need to handle it. And until she/corporate does, it’s going to look like Vera Wang, both brand and founder, agree with the actions of some upstart wench copping a ‘tude, who is now embarrassing the company.I’m glad this is story is gaining traction. Anyone who, in this economy, tries to act all uppity when their label is already expanded out to a range of incomes deserves all the bad press they get. And quite honestly, if Oscar de la Renta (who is represented at practically every “event”/awards show) thought well enough of GH, well that makes whoever from Vera Wang started this mess look mighty dumb right about now. For those that say “who cares?”, well, there’s a link about the story(NLG’s tweets) from the HuffingtonPost, which is like the 5th hit you get if you Google Vera Wang, after the obvious sites for the label and VW’s bio. Just sayin’ Log in to Reply sallyv October 23, 2011 Really? All this over a comment by an salesgirl? Why didn’t GH go to the head office to begin with? This is a GH problem far as I can see. Nancy is always stirring up trouble where there shouldn’t be any and now it sounds like Vanessa is too. Geesh! Log in to Reply Leave a Reply Cancel Reply You must be logged in to post a comment.
