You can't fight city hall, or for this industry to ever make a lick of sense. The 2012 Writers Guild of America (WGA) Award nominations came out today and while The Young and The Restless, All My Children and General Hospital all received nods, the best soap in daytime in 2011—One Life to Live—was snubbed.
While I am still trying to find out what each show submitted to the Guild, I hear OLTL picked an entry revolving around their stellar teen bullying/suicide arc. I would love to know what Y&R submitted, considering that soap was an utterly unwatchable hot, stank mess for most of 2011.
GH, amid a creative burnout of gnarly proportions, was also hard to watch this past year, while AMC improved slightly with the late-in-the-game returns of creator Agnes Nixon and head writer Lorraine Broderick. OLTL truly has been the Rodney Dangerfield of this friggin genre.
