Jamey, what you said about Marlena on Days!

I heartily wish the writers would put her in a story where she's in serious danger. I think a crazy patient or obsessed stalker storyline would do it. It's all well and good to tell "realistic" stories, but then you should also play to your actors' strengths. Dee Hall excels in this type of story.

Stella Lombard, the woman who kept Marlena in a boiler pit and lowered down that Thanksgiving turkey to her in that hilariously campy scene, probably had kids who now have a revenge agenda against Marlena.

Hmmm....wasn't Stefano "obsessed" with Marlena for like ever,
back in the day????

What happened to Jamey's phone line? I sounded like he was in a tunnel when he was talking on this episode. Everyone else was loud and clear.

Marlena is Days number 1 Stunna and what she needs is a rival. Not a long triangle, but a hospital doctor (maybe even a three-month arc featuring Robin Strasser as a shady megabitch surgeon) Talk about balls to the wall! Then slowly reveal RS to be Susan Hunter....

Soapy Opie, blame Dana Higley for that. She made Stefano hate Marlena.

Jamey you might be right. Because Deidre's acting is just bland with serious material And Drake ain't got no better. So it sounds like them getting kidnapped would cover up for their lack of talent. Because when you trying to do Shakespeare...and Desdemona and her co-star act like they is auditioning for the Tea Spout kiddie play then we have a problem.

Most Improved Female Character: I would have to say Jacqueline MacInnes Wood as Steffy Forrester. She has been a pleasure to watch this past year on B&B. I like that is now the vixen and no longer the heroine! This fits Wood so much better.

Most In Need of a Makeover: Jillian Bowe you are absolutely right. That gal playing Victoria Newman is a mess most days. This not combing her mane is beyond ridiculous and I wouldn't expect to see that from a Newman Heiress! It's beyond absurd that an executive would go to work with her hair looking that way.

Biggest Waste of Talent: Melody Thomas Scott...she was gone for almost six months....way too long and the show went further down the toilet during her absense.

Best Couple: People might not agree with this one but they were my favorite couple this year. Dolla Bill and Steffy! They are hot together and I can't wait until she cheats on her husband (his son) and gets her some Bill. Those two have amazing chemistry and it needs to be explored more beyond a couple kisses!

Say it again Melodie WRT Diversity on Y&R as "Be Careful What You Wish For". It needed to be said! Thank you, thank you, gracias, merci, danke schoen! Yolanda with a "do rag" recently nearly sent me into convulsions.

I'm finally turning a corner and loving Villy. I still think the chemistry of Shadam is undeniable (thanks to SC and MM), but the writing has been just piss-poor. But don't be calling my Sharon a nasty dog, Jamey! Wink Everybody in GC is a nasty dog!

What Jamey said about Marlena. Deirdre Hall as a supporting character is one of the few flaws of the Days reboot.

I was howling with laugther, too. Melodie is branging (note: not a typo) it on this podcast.

It sounds like every couple on soaps is tortured. Seems to me that none of these writers have any idea how to write couples/supercouples SLs. For all the drama, conflict, obstacles, etc - there has to be a reprieve of romance, sweetness and loving in the afternoon. These couples SLs are all peaks and no valleys, or in the backburnered cases - all valleys (offscreen) and no peaks. Where's the payoff for those vested in these couples on all soaps? Ugg!

Oh please. Clearly you haven't seen Deidre Hall in serious material because she is far from bland. She beautifully portrayed a mother who lost her child due to SIDS. She wonderfully portrayed a woman who lost her husband (Roman) and its affects. She masterfully portrayed a woman who was torn between two loves. She effortlessly portrayed a mother who dealt with an out of control teenager trying to blackmail her. She wonderfully portrayed the guilt-ridden wife who had to deal with the aftermath of a husband who found out about her indiscretion with John. She ingeniously portrayed a mother who had to deal with her child on death row and having to beg her worst enemy for his help. She brilliantly portrayed a wife who had to morn her husband due to his "death" in a car accident and the emptiness she felt because of it.

Clearly you weren't watching these serious storylines and how she shined in her portrayal of them. If anyone's talent was wasted at DAYS with idiotic (yet entertaining lol) storylines, it was Dee Hall. I will even venture to say that the reason why the over-the-top storylines worked (like the possession and the Salem Stalker) was because of Dee Hall's acting. She actually MADE it work and made it believable. Unfortunately, I don't think any other actress/actor currently on DAYS (short of perhaps James Scott) would EVER be able to pull that off and DAYS currently has some extraordinary talent! I am not saying that Dee is the best actress on DAYS but she is a damn good one when given a chance to shine. However, she has a star quality about her that some of her costars just don't possess. She also has a certain "je ne se quoi" that allows her to pull of things that even better actors/actresses wouldn't be able to pull off.

I agree with Jamey. Dee Hall needs to be front and center, however, it is in a insult to just limit her to plot-driven drivel (like being kidnapped again) as if she isn't capable of doing much more.

ROTFLMAO!!! I’m halfway through this episode listening to you fools at work and Melodie, you ain’t right. Your “be careful what you wish for” and everybody co-signing on The Black and the Restless has me in tears, including Jamey’s Lilly White impersonations. No wonder we stopped hearing from Victoria Rowell. She ain’t trying to come back to this hot 1st and 15th of them month mess. LOL!

I don't think Stephen NIchols was wasted....Tucker being in a bed is called a STORYLINE. He's had two very good stories in one year...

The Abby story where she runs him over, and now Devon is his son. Not ot mention the whole ridiculous Diane murder mystery...so how has Tucker not be on enough????

I agree, Peter Bergman's Jack has been dumbed down...but I love my Y&R, and there's enough negativity going around here with the show, so I'll just say that and move along Laughing out loud

My favorite time of the year podcast...

I agree re the glamour squads:
Y/R Sofia's Dayglo colors & Victoria's macrame & granola garb
DOL Kate's dress (& blue hair) I just don't get it.
GH Jason, Elizabeth, Sam the jeans need to go they dress like they're freshmen in college they are thirty somethings lets dress like it.
However big improvement w/Spinelli he has a style now he doesn't wear 8 year old clothes.

I agree re: Sonny/Brenda and Elizabeth and Lucky storylines being written to fail their fans wanted fluff instead of ridiculous angst...both of their fanbases waited ten years for happily ever after...these stories "wrote themselves" this was a time to give the fans what they wanted but they refused. These end of the year programs are really funny.

Most in need of storyline: B/B Daisy I was disappointed that her storyline
LoL re: Marcus

GH John York's Mac its really a pity (also Alexis) they won't write for them. And Robin/Lisa/Patrick fatal attraction storyline was excellent at the beginning but they wouldn't end it then it became a cartoon. Too bad

Can't stop laughing re: Y/R diversity..really funny I missed Yo-Harmony's do-rag.

Smitty, I agree. Jackie Wood has developed into a pretty good actress. But I do hope she'll stay away from the Juvederm..........

Biggest waste of talent: Any veteran actor on Y&R! None of them deserve Maria Bell's bullcrapola!

Worst recast: NuKate. Why the hell did they get rid of Megan Ward to bring on this new chick who has no real screen presence or chemistry with ANYONE? Can anyone say generic?

Most annoying characters? GH's Lulu and Y&R's SyPhyllis.....

Best plot twist that I was NOT expecting? Avery is SyPhyllis' sister. I still think it reeks of sloppy writing and is as contrived as the day is long, but I love the way that Avery sticks it to that redheaded tramp. And Jessica Collins and Michelle Stafford have excellent chemistry together.

Best couple? Y&R's Billy and Tricktoria........oops, I meant Victoria. Amelia Heinous is still heinous, but I am ALMOST completely immune to her mediocrity by now. We ain't getting Heather Tom back, folks, so let's just make the best of it.

Biggest wastes of talent: Melody Thomas Scott, Maura West and Genie Francis. Again, all three victims of craptastic writing.

Worst departures: GH's Jonathan Jackson. He IS Lucky, and as far as I'm concerned, the ONLY Lucky that really counts. Sorry, Greg Vaughan. You did a good job, but you were merely a seat warmer. OLTL's Robin Strasser and Trevor St. John. Both actors deserved to be around until the bitter end. The way they essentially threw Trevor away when Roger came knocking on the door asking for his old job back was criminally insane. And how will we have a final scene without Dorian? I dunno..........

Biggest GAG ME moment: GH bringing back it's LAMEST villain of the past few decades, Lisa. Horribly written character. Mediocre actress. Need I say more?

I agree Jackie Wood acting has gotten better, and I hate to say this but Amelia Heinle acting has gotten a little bit better, but she still sucks though! Heather Tom could act circles around Amelia, but a few weeks ago she was hitting the beat right. However her hair still looks like she gone through a wind tunnel. If Heather Tom was playing (Vicki Newman) Michael Muhnuey; they would mopped the floor up with each other as Vicki & Adam.

Mel you had me cracking up when you were talking about becareful what you wish for. When you did the Malcolm/Neil/Sophia/Lily debacle. That was pure funny. Oh I had to go back and listen over and over again. That was boss!

Preach it Jamey! Right there with you with Villy as best couple. There's not much romance left in daytime but they have it in spades. She just lights up like a Christmas tree around him and nothing is sexier than Billy in love. It's hard to give the current regime at Y&R any props, but I have to give them mad props for seeing the chemistry between Billy & Amelia and putting them together. That was definitely a genius move!

Thanks for explaining that Jamey! I was like I can't hear what he's saying about my Villy lol. Even if I couldn't hear everything so happy that you chose them as Best Couple. You're in good company with Soap Digest doing the same and other blogs on the net too!

You guys never fail to make me laugh, but I was ROLLING during this podcast!

Hearing Mel gleefully recap over and over again how Natalie was slung off the roof was AWESOME! And the description of diversity on Y&R and the Sharon/Skye mess had me in tears!

And I love how Jillian always represents the Nikki Newman fans!

Fun podcast, folks!

Most Improved Actor or Actress - Molly Burnett, DAYS. She improved over leaps & bounds with Suzanne Rogers and Crystal Chappell

Biggest Waste of Male Talent: John J. York (Mac), GH
Biggest Waste of Female Talent: Crystal Chappell, DAYS
Most in Need of a Makeover: love her, but Ilene Kristen, OLTL
Most in Need of a Story: Nancy Lee Grahn, GH
Best Stunt Casting: Sarah Michelle Gellar, AMC
Dreams Really do Come True: Brian Frons gone from ABCD, alas far too late; VENICE gets its due with an Emmy Award
Be Carful What You Wish For: Prospect Park to take AMC & OLTL online, only to get screwed again
Best Couple: Tea & Blair, OLTL
Worst Couple: Natalie & Brodie, OLTL
Best Triangle: Gina/ Ani/ Lara, VENICE
Best Quad: Blair, Todd, Tea, Victor, OLTL
Most Tortured Couple: Bo & Nora, OLTL
Best Storyline: Shane's bullying, OLTL (minus Jack's acting); Tale of Two Todds, OLTL

Thanks so much to the whole DC gang for 2 insightful and funny-ass podcasts. Perfect wrap up to a very challenging year. The podcasts bring me so much joy on those days when I most need it. I've already listened to 'em twice. Please keep them coming no matter how many soaps we have left!

Happy Holidays to all my fellow soap fans and a big F U to Frons, Sweeney, et al.
