Guiding Light Coming to DVD Mid-January

If you loved the four-DVD set of classic As the World Turns episodes and the Christmas in Oakdale DVD released by SoapClassics.com, here is more good news. According to We Love Soaps, SoapClassics.com will release a four-DVD set of classic Guiding Light episodes in mid-January. While all of the episodes included haven’t been revealed,  WLS reports Roger Thorpe’s (Michael Zaslow) death and Quint (Michael Tylo) and Nola’s (Lisa Brown) wedding will be among them. The site also teases us with this enticing tidbit.

We can't spoil all the episodes on the disc just yet but fans of Santo Domingo, the Bauer family, personality disorders, fire trucks, the magic of Nick, ex-husbands, singing med students, drunken stepfathers and Irna Phillips will be happy.

I really miss my Blake & Doris. I'm so hoping at least one of them will be on the first set of DVDs. I wonder if the "drunken stepfather" is a Lillian/Beth episode.

I've had my fingers crossed for a while that this news was coming, and I'm SO happy it's happening...and very soon, too! It sounds like the special anniversary episode when Beth Ehlers played Irna must be one of them. I'm happy with whatever the choices are. There will always be that feeling of "why didn't they include..." but it's got to be extremely tough to narrow it down to just 20, and maybe there will be further discs down the road.

I just want to add kudos to soapclassics.com's customer service. I had a small issue with my Christmas in Oakdale disc, sent them an e-mail asking about exchange, and less than 24 hours later they let me know a replacement was on the way!

Awesome news! I am definitely going to get this the first day it's released. I hope more of these keep coming, and coming, and coming! I hope all the GL fans get this!
I'd love to see episodes like Reva calling herself the slut of Springfield, Reva driving off the bridge, Annie making it look like Reva pushed her down the steps, Annie's breakdown and confession on the witness stand, Reva and Annie's airplane scenes, Ross' election nightmare episode, all of the episodes from the blackout week, Alex announcing her divorce to Roger and exposing him on Fourth of July, when Holly found Ross and Blake in bed, Alex confronting Mindy on her dating Nick and then telling Billy about Roger and Mindy's affair, etc.

My prayers have been answered. My Guiding Light is coming out on DVD. I have been waiting for this since it was cancelled. I will be buying every one that is out. I hope they keep on coming and I hope we will eventually be able to buy or watch on line every episode again.

When I read this about this being released in mid-Jan...I screamed Party My whole day at work was all smiles, I was telling everyone. I will order more then one copy for gifts but I need at least two if wear out one. Shock I knew it was going to be release but read it would be happening in the first quarter of the new year but this is even better. Next stop is free online episodes to watch all of our beloved stories of the P&G soaps. This should be happening next year sometime just like Hulu and AOL did a few years ago...only difference this time around it includes ATWT & GL. I'm in heaven... Innocent

I had the same issue and customer service replied within hours on Christmas Eve with a thoughtful and personal email. My email was actually read and referenced in the reply! Excellent episodes chosen for the ATWT sets, so I am excited about the Guiding Light set. I wish I could pre-order! I am a much larger fan of the GL but gladly bought the ATWT sets in hopes GL would go to dvd and here it is! So excited.

I became a fan of GL in the 1990's, so I will definitely be buying this DVD set. I'm hoping there will be some of what made GL must-see back then (the Blackout episode, Annie v. Reva, Dinah v. Cassie, Julie vs. Bridget, and Brent Lawrence dressing as Marian Crane and stalking Lucy and Alan-Michael.)

...good period and didn't you love the younger set then with Bridget, David, Kat, Julie, Dylan..awesome. Loving me some Dinah w\Wendy and Cassie!! The blackout, other soaps tried to do the same thing even ATWT, but didn't hit the mark like GL, how Roger & Mo became friends etc. Only thing I didn't like was Marian, simply she killed my "Nadine" and loved "Nadine" and Jean Carol. If you enjoyed GL then wait you are going to love '80s w\introduction of Reva, Reardons family, Michelle Forbes as Sonni\Sonita story, pre-Annie was Reva\Sonni. I sent an email to SoapClassics.com to just thank them for what they are doing with the P&G soaps and they sent me back not a form letter but very nice thoughtful letter to thank me!! Love I was wrecked! The only thing I suggested when the online episodes are coming of all P&G soaps like they did on AOL to start GL from '79. The rape of Holly by Roger, introduction of Ross as his attorney. Fans will be surprised how Ross was not the up standing type of citizen like his brother Justin. You loved the '90s and it was full with Roger & Holly, see from the beginning. They told me they are looking for starting point and said I'm not alone they have had many requests for the same starting point...it would be delicious. You see the whole Bauer family with Mike, Bert, & Hillary. I been in great mood since yesterday and it might be dated in fashion but the writing will hold up. The online episodes it will be new stories for you great writing from Bridget & Jerome Dobson,Doug Marland, Pam Long simply golden eras. Wink

@harlee490, I wish I could've watched back then when it was awesome for more than the 2 year window from 555-5555 or so. IMHO, if Soap Classics is going to pick something from the last ten years of the show, they have to have Olivia Spencer's triangle with Philip and Alan Spaulding, where both Philip and Alan used her and tried to destroy her at the same time.

Woo hoo! Guiding Light was released on DVD today! I just ordered my copy and just like the ATWT set, this DVD set has an excellent selection of episodes. Can't wait for my order to come. Also, there is a free episode on Soap Classics web site.

Yes, I too just ordered, had gotten email and woke up my husband when I screamed!! I have watched the online episode and I will go to work with a smile on my face. So excited about this so I ordered 4 of value packs, I have 2 GL and I will give the 2 sets as gifts and rest of ATWT as gifts Party the online episode was so good and HB had just arrived in Spfld. was a gem.

The Reva Shayne Collection was released by Soaps Classics on Friday. Per usual, it's an excellent collection of episodes, only this set features Reva Shayne (Lewis). And on the SC website there is a really great 1984 episode that is the introduction of Beverlee McKinsey as Alexandra Spaulding! It's must view and fun from start to finish!

Admittedly, I'd rather watch the DVDs of GL and ATWT than watch any of the currently aired soaps.

^^ Wanted to add that I hope there are Alexandra Spaulding and Roger Thorpe collections released as well!
