DC's Top 10 Female Entertainers of 2011

No. 2: Melody Thomas Scott, The Young and the Restless

Being off-screen for seven months didn't diminish Melody Thomas Scott's acting abilities on The Young and the Restless. The soap veteran came back to Genoa City with a bang and let viewers know why she always has and always will be one of Y&R fan’s favorites. Thomas Scott is at her best as a drunken lioness, trying to protect her cubs from harm no matter what the cost. Her gut-wrenching scenes of alter-ego Nikki Newman admitting in AA how much of a pathetic lush she is, and desperately trying to fight off her cravings for the evil demon called alcohol displayed why her bosses made a smart move to negotiate and bring the actress back from contract Siberia.

I would have added the woman who plays Phyllicia Evans on OLTL because she gave the best slap of the last decade to Nora Hanen Gannon Buchanan in the courthouse! I replayed that more than Marty throwing Natalie off of the roof!

Seriously, I thought Hilary B. Smith gave powerful performances all year. Although featured for a short time recently, Ilene Kristen gave the most hilarious and poignant performances of the year. I loved everything Roxy & Fraternity Row. Ilene Kristen is a daytime great.

Couldn't agree more about Ilene Kristen; she's proabably the only actor, male or female, that puts a smile on my face every time she's in a scene. I just adore her.

The only other thing I disagree with is the Laura Wright becoming THE Carly comment. Its great she won her Emmy and everything, but she's still 3rd for me and she'll probably stay there for the rest of her run. Its not even a knock on her, but she's walking in some big shoes. She's great, but not as good as SJB or TB. I can't get over the fact that she has zero chemistry with Maurice Benard. That is really Carly's sole purpose. There is nothing there for me. His chemistry with SJB and TB was off the charts. I always wanted Sonny and Carly. Now I would be grossed out if they were an actual couple. She doesn't even have chemistry with Jason in any way other than best friends. I always wanted to see SJB and TB hook up with Jason. There's really nothing for Carly. The character has become almost useless to me. The other actresses had more to work with though by actually having Bobbie on screen and sometimes having real writers write for them. She'll never be THE Carly to me, but she's good.

Totally Agree, Its comendable that someone can work for so long without being rewarded for their work. However, it does not make you CARLY.. Carly is, was, and always will be Mrs. Corinthos .. She needs to have that intense chemistry with Maurice.. Truthfully, I think they chose Laura Wright because she didnt have chemistry with Maurice or Steve because then they were forced to put Carly with other people and in other situations. She will never embody Carly, and she will never enter the atmosphere that Carly has been known for.. DRAMATIC ACTING.. Sure, Laura Wright is passable but she will never be a Dramatic Carly.. She yells, she screams, she supports.. But She never shines in her own storyline.. I.E. Her emmy was won in a supporting Reel... even though her role is a leading role...

That said, Florencia Lozano more than deserves the top spot on this list; she's been on fire for a good two or three years now and this year was no exception. It's a shame she's been overlooked at the Emmys the last couple of years in favor of the same ol' same ol'(queue Michelle Stafford). Also glad Susan Haskell was recognized for taking what was essentially a character-assasinating storyline and delivering pure gold day in and day out. That victory pose after tossing Natalie off the roof was THE scene of the year.

Any woman on OLTL is going to struggle with a nomination because her scene will always be about some bored man who barely looks at her. Michael Easton slept through most of his Marty/Natalie scenes and TSJ did the same with Tea.

I would replace Matula and Wright with Rebecca Herbst and Heather Tom. Matula, as I simply view her as playing the typical soap heroine. Wright, because I haven't noticed much nuance in her performances. Carly basically shouts through every crisis. It's been forever since she's made me feel for Carly.

I noticed your Top 10 Male Entertainers of the Year included Burton, Geary and Jackson from GH for their contribution in the Jake dying storyline. While these 3 men got the bulk of the writing (typical for male dominated GH), there was only one person in the entire story that brought me to tears. Only one that made me feel the loss of the actual life of a little boy...Rebecca Herbst. She was fantastic. 2011 was a year of unrelenting, destructive writing for the character of Elizabeth Webber. The only saving grace was RH's commitment to delivering the material, no matter how degrading the writing.

Heather Tom OWNED B&B this year when Katie learned of Bill's emotional affair with Steffie. She nailed every aspect of Katie's shock, heartbreak (and heart attack), humiliation, anger, outrage, determination and defiance over her husband's betrayal. Her masteful delivery of Katie's rules to Bill Spencer, should she decide to return to his unworthy ass was pure bliss and as memorable as Marty's brilliant celebratory and victorious arm wave after flipping Natalie over the roof's edge in Lanview.

Very pleased with the number one spot on this list. Flor has spun the crumbs she was given into gold. She is my favorite actress on OLTL and reminds us that a female character can indeed stand alone. Flor's Tea can go toe to toe with anyone and anything in Llanview and her chemistry is evident with each and every acting partner she is given, even John McBain wakes up a bit out of his slumber when Tea is around. So accolades to Flor!

As for the comment about TSJ sleeping through his scenes with Tea, barely stopping to look at her? I'm sorry but I have NEVER seen that happen. In fact, it was refreshing to see two romantic acting partners show they actually WANTED to be paired together. The intimacy between TSJ's character and Tea was off the charts, and I am not just talking about what happened in the bedroom. Everything, from the little touches and caresses to the looks exchanged was intimate. TSJ and Flor's characters could have whole conversations without uttering a single word. Therefore, I simply must disagree about TSJ's effort and commitment to Flor/Tea.

As for ME allegedly sleepwalking through Jolie, well, I actually don't have a problem with Jolie but I think I'll opt out of a comment on that one.

Do you even watch GH? LW is a fine actress, but she will NEVER be THE Carly. I'm still waiting on the real Carly to pop back out of a PC wormhole. TG, SB & JJ on the list for males but no RH on the female list?! Please. RH sold that ridiculous Jake dies storyline.

............

I totally agree, Kim Matula being listed & not Heather Tom made me laugh aloud; I couldn't believe it Hope has to be one of the most boringest of characters (for me of course) her love life and with nearly every character commenting or involved (for weeks) rattled me to not watch for months that bored me to tears. But wait! they are still at it!

I'm not sure how Florencia Lozano's role as Téa is supporting actress. Without a doubt, she's a lead.

Mostly because of the Emmys. I consider Florencia leading but people still consider characters like Vicki and Dorian as the leads of OLTL and occasionally Hillary B Smith.

Since the Emmys don't know who she is, I hardly think it matters.

Erika Slezak hasn't been on much, and she only engages when she feels like it lately. Robin Strasser has been gone for a while, and Hillary B. Smith is undoubtedly supporting. In my opinion, Florencia far outshines all of these actors, even on her worst day.

She's also number 5 on the episode counts for the year. I don't see how that can be construed as supporting, even by the Emmys, which appears to be warped and is nothing but political.

Kim Matula is a terrific actress and so is Scott Clifton. They both look good together as a couple as well. I agree with the votes on these two stars.

Nothing personal against Kim Matula, But i think her spot should've went to Heather Tom or Jacqueline MacInnes Wood instead. Jacqueline and Heather gave emmy worthy performances during the Katie/Bill/Steffy storyline. In my opinion it was the best storyline B&B had in 2011 and people are still talking about it. All i really saw Hope Logan do was whine, cry and complain all year. I would have much rather seen Heather or Jacqueline on this list...

B&B's Kimberly Matula is rocking her scenes and like Katherine Kelly Lang, she is perfect actress! Matula makes each of her scene so dramatic/touching that you can FEEL 'HOPE' s feelings in yourself! She is dayttimes' one of the biggest stars,Congratulations to her and MORE to come.
