Could Oprah Return to Acting in The Butler?

Hot on the heels of reports Oprah Winfrey might replace Whitney Houston as Savannah in the Waiting to Exhale sequel, comes word from The Hollywood Reporter that she is considering a return to acting in The Butler.

Winfrey is mulling an offer to co-star in The Butler, Precious director Lee Daniels’ story of Eugene Allen, a black man who worked as butler in the White House, serving eight presidents from 1952 to 1986.

In other Oprah related news, Discovery Communications CEO David Zaslav weighed in on the state of OWN.

"Oprah is now fully engaged with her creative leadership team, and OWN is off to a nice start in 2012 with her hit show Oprah's Next Chapter setting viewing records for the network when it premiered," he added. "Oprah will be featured in additional formats throughout the year."

If they want to cast the part realistically, then they should be looking at actresses close to Whitney’s age range: Vanessa Wiliams (of Desperate Housewives); Sallie Richardson-Whitfield; Halle Berry; Kimberly Elise; or Sanaa Lathan. Another name (and face) that comes to mind is Carmen Ejogo (who happens to be married to Jeffrey Wright).

Since Gregory Hines is no longer with us, they will have to find an actor to replace him — my vote goes to Ernie Hudson or Delroy Lindo. Since Wesley Snipes is currently indisposed, they might look at Idris Elba to replace him.
Now I am not sharing any more casting suggestions until they bring me on board as one of the production staff!
