One of the classiest guys in the industry, The Bold and the Beautiful showrunner Brad Bell is celebrating quite the milestone this month at the sudser his parents, the late Bill Bell and Lee Phillip Bell, created. Twenty-five years ago on March 23, 1987, the half-hour sudser about the spashy Forrester fashion dynasty, the ruthless Spencer publishing empire and the lower class Logans debuted.

In 2012, it's still members of those same three familes driving story in B&B's highly-fictionalized version of SoCal, only now the focus has shifted to the younger set. TV Guide's Michael Logan has published a revealing interview with Bell, who has been at B&B in some form or fashion since day one, and took over the show back in 1993 as head writer (in '95 he also added the title of executive producer). See a few snippets from the chat below!

On why the Steffy/Liam/Hope triangle is front and center:

TV Guide Magazine: You've been playing the Hope, Liam and Steffy saga so heavily that it's taken over the show.

Bell: It's very much like we were 25 years ago when Ridge and Brooke were the centerpiece of B&B. I've been looking for this for quite some time. Not since the days of Amber, Rick, Kimberly, and CJ have we had such a strong young group. Maybe this current group even eclipses them. They have been such a success for us in the ratings and the demos. We're up 400,000 viewers from last year, half of them in the 18-49 demo. So I am committed to telling younger and younger stories.

On phasing out Jack Wagner and other actors who comprised the Marone family:

TV Guide Magazine: To the point where you've dropped Jack Wagner [Nick], Lesley-Anne Down [Jackie] and Brandon Beemer [Owen]. That's pretty much a whole family.

Bell: It reflects a continuing shifting of the storylines and our need to keep things fresh. The focus now is on the next generation of Forresters and Spencers. Those families need room to grow.

Bell also previewed a timely, upcoming prescription pills saga, featuring a surprising member of his soap's YA set, for Logan. Click here to find out who it is!
