HomeTVAll My ChildrenMore Than He Could ‘Chew’: Mario Batali Settles Lawsuit Over Alleged Confiscated Tips at Restaurants; Will Pay Workers $5.25 Million! Jamey Giddens March 9, 2012 4 Comments The Chew co-host Mario Batali's pockets are about to get a little lighter. According to the Associated Press, Batali and his business partner Joseph Bastianich have agreed to pay $5.25 million to settle a lawsuit filed against Batali and Bastianich, alleging they confiscated a portion of their restaurant workers' tips. The suit, filed in 2010, claimed Batali and Bastianich's restaurants had a policy of deducting 4 to 5 percent from the tip pool at the end of each night. Log in to Reply dellygrim March 12, 2012 Disgusting! I’m sure wait staff at these restaurants make a pretty decent living but to steal your employees tips is so low. I hope word spreads about this. Servers have flexible and varied hours, many are home in the mid afternoon. I hope any watching him will stop. Log in to Reply Leave a Reply Cancel Reply You must be logged in to post a comment.
