One Life to Live Alum Nafessa Williams to Play a Model on The Bold and The Beautiful

Update: Williams will be playing a model in one episode of the series.

More Llanview residents (Hey, Hillary B. Smith!) are packing their trucks and moving to Beverly. Former One Life to Live actress Nafessa Williams (Deanna) has landed a role on The Bold and the Beautiful. Williams made the announcement on Twitter, saying:

So far Williams is keeping mum on what role she'll be playing and her first airdate.

B&B is getting a little blacker! Good for them. Now can they hire Marla Gibb’s to play Justin’s overbearing mother who wants to keep Justin and her grandson Marcus away from the Forrester Hussy’s?

Now why would B&B even want to go blacker David46208? All the storylines involving “blacker” people failed in the past. The black actors never developed a huge fan base and there is already so much talent on board thats being underused. There is no use to get any blacker when this show doesnt expand their daily length to 45 minutes.

TB and AS are on board how long now? They havent had a storyline except their entrance on the show and those entrances where both rushed and lame.

@booze26: Most of the viewers of B&B are black. So they have built in fanbase if the soap writes for the characters the way they do others. Why do you think they decided to send VR over that cliff? Because if she migrated over to B&B as Dru it would have been over. So with B&B’s majority fanbase being African American as long as they write for them, fully integrate the characters and have actors who can act then the more the merrier.

I’d recast Marcus though with Donn Swaby (ex-Chad #1 Passions), Cornelius Smith Jr. (Ex-Frankie, All My Children) or Lawrence Saint-Victor (ex-Remy, GL). Either of these actors would do.

I applaud the diversity, but this does not excite me! If B&B wants to appeal to African American viewers, how about bringing on some REAL actors in well-written roles? You already tried and failed with Texas Battle, so it’s time for you to dig a bit deeper, Brad!

IDK…I mean, I love the character of Dayzee and I love the actress, but we barely see her. I’m not Texas Battle fan, but we don’t see him either. Aaron Spears is….well, let’s just say, I LOVE Aaron Spears, and we don’t see him either. It’s sad but its reality. And whatever happened to that African doctor he kissed while he was married to Donna? Couldn’t they have explored that instead of just one day randomly announcing that they’d divorced and without reason or explanation???

Anyway, diversity is always important in daytime, but only when it’s actually diversity. Having four black actors on the show means nothing when they are seen three times a year as props for other characters…

We talk about diversity on other soaps, but B&B has to be the WORST. But then again, there are plenty of other talented actors on that show that don’t get airtime….so IDK. Whateverrrrrrrrrr

I forgot about Kristolyn Lloyd until a few minutes ago! She’s a good actress! I just don’t like seeing people get jobs on soaps just because they are “pretty”, but I guess this is supposed to be “The Bold and the Beautiful….”, so seeing them hire her as a model makes sense! Just don’t offer her a contract, Brad. Save that for someone who actually knows how to act!!

Oooh weee, Nafessa Williams and Texas Battle sharing a scene? Television might implode from the country-ass-ridiculousness of it all!

Seriously, regarding the state of Blacks on B&B, it’s really in-line with the other remaining soaps which barely feature Black characters/actors. Kristolyn Lloyd is a lovely, talented actress who I hope to see go on to primetime and feature films.

I dont know if most of B&B viewers are black, I am not and I dont want to see a lot of new black people on this show. There is no place for them on this show. Hell, there wasnt even room for Jack Wagner anymore, so why waste the precious airtime to more boring characters that are only for some kind of social standard. Its ridiculous. Brad should start to write more for the people that he has on board right now. He has an terrific cast and he already dropped a few wonderful actors last year, so I dont see any point in bringing some newbees.

The viewers sof B&B, no matter if they are black or white, I dont think that matters watch to this show and know what to expect. Changing it wont bring in new viewers, besides Brad has one limitation, he is producing/writing this show more for overseas than for his own country. (I think).

You are kidding, right? Are you racist or just inconsiderate? “You don’t want to see a lot of new black people on the show, There is no place for them on this show”? Where do us black folks belong, back on the plantation? I seriously hope you are being sarcastic or something!

there are shows, like say Seinfeld, where I dont miss people of color when I am watching because I am a Native New Yorker who spent more than 8 years working on the Upper East Side of NYC where I left people of color on the subway when I got off and saw them again on the way home. Oh, I am exaggerating a bit but just a bit.

B&B explores an incredibly insular world where Brooke has married Stephanie’s husband, 2 sons, and had a dalliance?(I havent watched in years) with her grandson. The lack of people of color even in LA wasnt even on my list of reasons for leaving this show.

Soapbaby, I was thinking the same too. I pray she does not share a scene with Marcus. Those two would make me give up B&B for good (lol). And I all for more African Americans on soaps too (seeing as I am black as well); however, I’m over begging for them to get air time when it’s obvious the powers don’t care to showcase them.

It amazes me how shortsighted you are. When someone doesnt see the need for new characters on this show, whether they are black or white I dont care, then you name them racists or inconsiderate.

Dont be stupid, I said that there is already enough dead weight on this show, all the three black actors on this show, have no subtance, no depth and actually no storyline right now or in the near future. I dont see any point in bringing in these actors just because of the argument that LA has a lot of black people.

I didnt want white people to be part of The fresh princ of Bel Air, just because of the simple fact that they have no place on that show.

And dont be pathetic with the plantation remark. Its 2012, get over it. Its not a big deal you know. There are also no chinese and hispanic characters on this show, so why make a big deal out of something that actually isnt a big deal.

@booze26 – alstonboy may have the same problem I have upon reading your post in your stating of and I quote:

“I dont know if most of B&B viewers are black, I am not and I dont want to see a lot of new black people on this show. There is no place for them on this show.”

I’d be willing to give you the benefit of the doubt that you meant to say that you did not wish to see ‘new people’ on this show but that is not what you said. You singled out not wishing to see black people and there ‘being no place for them on this show.’ That’s an offensive statement. Sadly, as evidenced in your response to alstonboy, you fail to see the error of your ways.

^^ I’m with you! But, it’s only one episode. I like having fun but I like that young Nafessa has a gig. She’s very pretty, so playing a model seems like a good fit.

@booze26: B&B’s survival depends like all soaps on its American viewers tuning in. If they are not happy with what they see, then no matter how many countries it is shown in is not going to save it. CBS is not making money off the show when it is aired in other countries. So they are dependent on it keep it ratings up here in America.

So even if B&B were canceled the Bell family could license the show overseas and make money off of rearing old episodes.

To help educate you, in America television Networks negotiate ad rates between segments of a show base on its average ratings (which is why sweeps months are an important measuring tool for network TV). While overseas when the show is licensed to a network in another country and they are paying to be able to air the show.

    @ David462084

Well, look at the state of soaps in the US. B&B is probably the only soap in the country that actually brings in tons of money. Bell is going to do everything he can to save that soap, and if that means make a deal with CBS, (if that doesnt already excists) he will probably do it. But you dont now for sure that CBS isnt already earning a lot of profits for selling these right…who knows??

The advertising market drops fast within the US, but selling the rights to other countries, especially the European countries is a huge profit market! Believe me, the television business is cutthroat business, and money means everything.

With the cancelation of all the soaps in the past 5 year, it could very well mean that in 2017 there is only one soap left, and B&B is the biggest television export product in the world!. So believe, if one soap is going to survive this mess, its probably going to be B&B.

I haven’t been a member of this site for too long, but I’m ashamed and disgusted by the ignorance and offensiveness that come in the form of the posts from booze26, perhaps you need to change your username to rehab and go check yourself. I have flagged both your post as offensive as I do not think someone with such ignorance should be allowed to post here.

I was never a long time viewer of OLTL (only watched it about the last 2 years) so perhaps that is why Ms. Williams’ character didn’t bother me much. There are lots of actors who at first ‘don’t know where they are’ as the DC crew might say…but soaps are the great training ground. Years later, there are some who are still stuck but others have the capacity to improve. And to be fair, the storyline that she had wasn’t the best.

However, I do hope that she took some acting classes in the interim.
She never struck me as being ‘country’ or anything, I always imagined that she had a sort of Pittsburgh twang.
But as a positive, she certainly can pull off the role of a model and so far it is just for 1 episode but I wish her luck.

Am I the only one wondering why she needed 4 auditions to appear in one episode? I hope she gets to do more than just stand there for all of that work…
