Trailer For Movie Version of Classic ABC Daytime Soap Dark Shadows Finally Premieres!

At long last, it's finally here! The trailer for Tim Burton's reimagining of the classic, ABC daytime soap opera Dark Shadows has made its way online. Starring Johnny Depp as 200-year-old vampire Barnabas Collins, who returns to his ancestral home just in time to meet his descendants during the swingin' 70's, the flick definitely plays up the groovy factor of The Me Decade. Watch the trailer after the jump!

I’m not impressed! I don’t know if it’s because I was really excited for this movie. This first trailer seems just so laughable!? It just isn’t what I expected it to be. I expected a movie in the tradition of SLEEPY HOLLOW or SWEENY TODD. A movie that has it’s funny moments but a dark theme. This looks unbelievable campy … and sadly not in a good way.

I agree with Soapjunkie88, this trailer makes this movie look terrible! I loved the soap version and the reboot primetime version from a few years go. This movie looks way too campy and it makes me very sad. I love Johnny Depp and also Tim Burton and Michelle Pfifer. I will most likely see the movie anyway but I am a little upset about Burtons take on this classic.

Oh dear…this is worse than I thought. What a disappointing take on the original. It’s like Capt Jack Sparrow as a vampire…..

As a fan of the original…there were so many ways they could have gone…this would’ve been my last choice.

Not sure I can bear to see it….probably won’t. This makes me sad, too.

Seems that they were too scared to make it a drama and thought that by turning it into some sort of Dramady that it would bring in a new audience. I really hate that it lost the dramatic aspects of it in favor of turning it into some Hollywood comedy-like film. This would have been better re-done by the BBC then by Americans.

Seeing as my Mom grew up watching Dark Shadows and I watched it as a young child in the 90s when it was on Syfy and fell in love with it, this attempt at Dark Shadows is not appeasing to me. When I think of Dark Shadows, I think of it being dark, gothic, and gritty, not what Tim Burton has attempted to do. I can tell from the trailer alone I probably won’t like it. Thank God that I bought my mom the entire original (soap) series years ago. I’ll just get my fix from there.

Burton and Depp only know how to go for the cheap chuckles. They are so very, very desperate to show us what cool kids they are. The material is meaningless. They have made the same movie 500 times. I can’t wait to see what they do with Grapes of Wrath. Get ready for Helena Botham Carter marathon dancing her way to kooky madness.

My only previous experience with DS was the early ’90s reboot, which I enjoyed immensely. This looks campy in a very bad way, which saddens me because I worship Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter. I was looking forward to this but now I’m disappointed.

I grew up watching the original soap but I thought the trailer looked great. I know diehard old school fans were hoping for some heavy goth drama — to them the material should be treated like Wuthering Heights. Well, I beg to differ. I think Mars Attack is Burton’s most fully successful film, and this looks like it’s in that, ahem, same vein. Can’t wait! It looks like a delightfully campy romp.
