General Hospital: Perkie's Observations

Kate wakes up alone and finds a letter from Connie under her pillow. She freaks out that Connie came out during the night and did something. Sonny wonders what she’s upset about. Kate says not to worry about her today.

Jason hears Spinelli’s message about Kate and returns the call, asking to meet with him. John calls Sam and tells her he has Franco’s sample. Sam tells him to meet her at the hospital. Sam lies to Jason. She has a check up for the baby, but Jason wants to go with her. Sam tells him to deal with Sonny instead. Jason doesn’t want to miss anything. Spinelli shows up with the information, so Sam manages to duck out.

John arrives at Sonny’s. He tells Max and Milo to get him, since the restraining order has been revoked. Sonny meets with John and accuses him of harassment. Sonny says many cops have tried to take him down, but he’s still here. John says he’s still here too, but his sister isn’t. Sonny will pay for what he did to her. John tells him to pay attention when Starr’s testifying and asks what kind of act Sonny will put on for the jury. Sonny says he has compassion for Starr. However, John tells him to plead out and give Starr peace. Sonny tells him to go after Johnny, since he was responsible.

Liz drops by Ewen’s office to thank him for lunch. He apologizes for Kate’s behavior. Liz figures Kate is a patient. Ewen says he owes her dessert and jokes that she’d be dating a murderer. He explains to Liz about Matt and Spinelli’s accusations. Liz apologizes for telling them that Ewen was her rescuer. The two plan to go for dessert.

Starr complains that Anthony is refusing to testify because he’s afraid of Sonny. Michael reminds her again that Anthony is a liar. There’s no way he could have seen Sonny in the headlights at night. She admits to Michael that she went to see Anthony at the mansion. Michael asks if she thought he would stop her. He says he wants her to get her answers. Starr says she deserves to know who took her family away. She says she misses them and life will never be the same. Starr cries and Michael hugs her.

Maggie’s wondering why Steven’s been avoiding her. Steve says he’s worried about his mother. He explains that she’s fresh out of a mental institute. Maggie asks why he’s letting Heather live with him. Steve says he wants to believe that anyone can heal and be redeemed.

Kate calls Ewen and lets him know that Connie came out during the night and left a note. She needs his help. Ewen wants her to put herself in a controlled environment, but Kate refuses. She claims she tried to tell Sonny the truth, but couldn’t. He knows something is wrong. Kate says she has to support Sonny at the trial. Ewen warns her that the trial is the last place she should be, in case Connie comes out. He mentions a warning sign. Kate says she remembers having a headache just before Connie came out. She says she can control things and that no one will keep her from the trial.

Spinelli tells Jason that Kate is seeing a psychiatrist. He found the commitment papers and asks whether Sonny suspects anything wrong. Jason says Sonny told him to back off. He can’t tell Sonny without proof and that they should leave this alone. Spin says that Kate is a danger to herself and others. Jason asks him to hack into Kate’s hospital file while he catches up with Sam.

Sam meets with John at the hospital. He gives her the sample and asks that she not tell anyone where it came from. Sam says she can’t tell Jason the truth yet, but John doesn’t think she should continue to lie. He asks what happens if the baby is Franco’s. John says he hopes everything works out the way she wants. Sam thanks him. Sam says she’s scared and wants the baby to be Jason’s. John says the longer she waits to find out, the longer she’ll have to deal with it.

Liz is coming down the hall and spots the two talking and backs away. Jason gets off the elevator and runs into Liz. She says she thought he’d be at the courthouse with Sonny. Jason’s says he’s on his way, after Sam’s check up. Liz says Sam isn’t seeing Dr. Lee today, but that she’s around the corner, talking to some guy.

As Kate and Sonny leave for the courthouse, she complains of a headache. Starr and Michael get to the courthouse. Starr admits to being nervous. She and Michael hug, as Kate and Sonny walk up and see them.

Why would Sam meet John on the 10th floor of the hospital? Of all the places in town to meet someone, including her office she goes where any number of people can see her. The only worst place to meet someone that you dont' want your husband or his employer to see you with, would have been at the courthouse. EEEssssh.

I didn't like John going to Sonny's. AFter seeming to be intelligent and swearing to Anna that he wouldn't cross a line, he shows up there. I like John and I don't want him to turn into another Taggert-Ric Lansing where he becomes obsessed with the idiot and we lose the intelligent man.

Totally forgot MAggie existed. Didn't miss her while she was gone and wouldn't be sad if she suddenly disapeared in the bowels of the hospital, like Tyrell and apparently TJ.

Where's Patrick?

Today's episode was completely un-watchable and boring. There was not one interesting thing about it at all.I hope this is not the way GH is going to look in the future. If it is,i will not be watching anymore.

From your lips to God's ears but i have a feeling it will take more then a miracle for that to happen. And sadly i think it is BB (Johnny) who will get his walking papers.

I enjoyed today's show.

There is no way in heck that John would have let Sonny kill his "new" found sister and spend the last decade living in Llanview! He would have worked endlessly to put Sonny in prison.

Grrr. Maggie needs to go. Now!

Am I the only person that thinks Sonny is acting strange? He's really possesive of Kate and his comments to Max were odd.

I really enjoyed the Sonny/Johnny scene. It was great to see Max and Milo and Sonny had better chemistry with John than he has had with anyone ages.
I actually wanted to watch the scene so it was a definite improvment for me.
I am hoping that Connie comes out on the stand. I can't wait to see the look on Sonny's face if she sells him down the river.
I was actually very surprised to see Maggie and not in a good way. Haven't missed her, never liked her, hope she goes away again soon.
As for Sam, it won't be long until Jason finds out she has been lying to him and then there will be a mushroom cloud over Port Chuck for real.
This is all good soap opera stuff. About darn time too:)

Why does Steve always sound like he's running out of breathe, when he was talking to Maggie it was as if he just finished running a marathon lol

I don't know how I feel about Starr/Michael..another teenage forbidden love story meh...
LOVE anything McBam, I wonder what Jason's reaction is going to be if he happens to catch them together. The chemistry between McBam is so hot, the gel will melt from Jason's hair.

You took the words right out of my mouth: Where's Patrick? - I was so happy to see him in the credits - and just ended up fast forwarding through everything to find he wasn't even on!

I get that tPTB want to capitalize on the passion that the liz/jason/sam stuff generates (and now adding in mcbain) but honestly do they have to have liz narcing and sam being stupid to do it. If they want to play out some beats with the quad, why cant all four be behaving rationally and intelligently and decently? Is that too much to ask.

I feel like Ron and Frank have turned GH into OLTL...the whole show is just beyond silly. Are they asking the actors to give really over-the-top performances? All the Heather stuff...the Spinelli and Matt capers...all pretty ridiculous! Ewen belongs on Spartacus or something, not as a shrink on GH. Ugh, the show may be saved, but it looks like GH is possessed with the ghost of OLTL. Soon we will be seeing Erica Slezak's upturned nose wandering around the hospital.

It's all so much fluff and camp! I loved OLTL, but I always saw GH as more serious.

@angrierblackman: I don't see GH as OLTL. OLTL camped it up but it had an abundance of likable characters and the humor was often very funny while drama was compelling. GH lacks mostly likable characters, the humor is rarely funny (I'd kill for a David Vickers or Roxy Balsom over Damian Spinelli!) and the drama is predictable (with the exception of the reveal of Robin being alive coming so soon after her "death.")

The actor playing Ewen is not a very good fit. I totally forgot about Maggie.

@GHteenybopper: I thought I was the only one noticing how out of breath Scott Reeves was, especially in yesterday's episode. I thought Steve was having an asthma attack. Is that SR's acting technique?

Aww, I felt really bad for Jason. He looked excited to hear the baby's heartbeat and instead his less than honest roommate shuts him out. That was just down right mean spirited and after he told her he had been thinking about not being included in all of these steps with Jake. There is no way Sam cannot know that Jason wants this baby and she just stepped on that poor killers heart like that. That is just a damn shame that he has tied himself to such a fibber who already has her next victim lined up.

I was very happy to see Liz steer him towards witnessing that little tete a tete in the corner. She owes Sam nothing and Sam was very clearly having a "private" conversation with another man. Me thinks someone must want to be caught if they are going to have their redezvous in pubic. If there was nothing going on that Jason wouldn't have issue with, Liz is steering him towards his wife. If Sam is up to no good, Liz is steering him towards learning that truth. It is a no lose situation for her. The only problem I had was with Liz's hair. Who is styling that and what do they have against her?

I liked the Starr and Michael stuff. I was happpy to see Milo and Max. Kate needs to just get locked up already.

John telling Max to eat a mint next time was cute. Since when are Max and Milo stupid enough to put their hands on a cop? McBain was out of line today, but oh well Sonny is out of line EVERY single day.

I really liked Ewen with Liz today and I was glad he told her about Spinelli and Matt trying to pin Lisa's murder on him. I just wish he would lose the facial hair on his chin. Whoever did Liz's hair today was a big fail, normally her hair looks great, but not this episode.

Sonny's face when he saw Michael and Starr... prcieless! I can't stand Starr and Michael, but if it pisses Sonny off, I'm all for it. I wonder how long it will take him to tell Jason he needs to "take care" of Starr.

So we finally get a scene where Jason remembers his wifey is pregnant and how he wants to be there for her? Looks like the writers just went into full Saint Jason mode.... funny, I don't have any sympathy for him at all. And I find it hilarious that yet again he had a scene where he told Spinelli not to tell someone something that they should really know. Hilarious.

I don't want Liz anywhere near that crap pile that is Jason. Both Sam and Liz deserve better.

I can't stand Starr and Michael - separately or together.

I thought Liz's hair was done like a third-grader's.

Ewen seemed a little looser today, so I liked him a little bit more.

I don't get why Sam didn't have McBain meet her at her office. It was a lame plot point in order to get Liz to see them, I guess. I didn't think there was any ulterior motive within Liz when she told Jason that Sam was around the corner talking to some guy. He was looking for his wife and she told him where she was. Some might be objecting the "talking with some guy" part as being mean, nosy or whatever, but I don't see it that way. That is the way people talk. That is what I would have said to anyone who asked a similar question to me. In fact, the other day I was at my sister's house when her husband came in and asked where she was. I said she was out back talking to some guy (who turned out to be their next door neighbor). No big deal in my opinion.

McBam is growing on me. I have a feeling that they are not going to go there and this is just angst for Jasam, so I am resisting getting attached. If I were running things, my GH couples would be Liason (duh), Johnny/old Maxie, Carly/Jax, Alexis/Mac, Scrubs, Sonny/old cool Brenda, and McBam.

Oh talk about stupidity ... wanna keep a secret, Sam??? Don't meet McBain on the 10th floor of the hospital where your husband's ex-fiancée is working. Tongue Stupid move!!! But hey, we got another Liason scene, which is always great.

Powerful scene between Sonny and John, even though it seemed dumb that he showed up there. Why would he? The talk between them didn't seem to have any professional background. It was personal...
And how do I start to believe that John's sister will show up very much alive eventually and is going to turn out to be another one of Sonny's greatest hits ... greatest love I meant ... I guess.

Ewen is growing on me. I like him in his role as a therapist. Don't feel much chemistry between him and Liz though. They should just find someone else for him.

Michael isn't bothering me much lately ... which could be thanks to his new scene partner Starr, who's eye rolling the hell out of me.
And did Michael actually confess to be a Quartermaine??? I was shocked!!!! Laughing out loud

Oh Kate ... you just want to see this disaster to happen, don't you? LOL Anyway should be great fun. Smile I've become a fan of Kelly Sullivan and her Connie persona.

The question is, did Liz hear Sam tell McBain that she just hoped the baby was Jason's? If she did, then it would be fair to assume she did it to make Jason suspicious of Sam. Btw, how would Liz know if Sam had an appt. with Kelly Lee? I thought she was a surgical nurse.

I hate that Spinell couldn't wait to tell Jason about Kate. I so wanted this to remain a big mystery to Sonny and Co. so they would be completely caught off guard. They still might. Maybe some of the L folks can help me out...., if one has DID, can the primary always tell what the alter is doing? It seems that Kate is awfully aware of Connie, and I find that odd, unless of course we guessed right and Connie is primary and Kate is the alter.

Can we send Starr back to Llanview and teach her how to do a sceene without grittingher teeth and rolling her eyes! That child gets on my nerves.

^^ Even if Liz heard Sam's conversation with John, she only told Jason that Sam was "around the corner talking to some guy." I don't think she heard but Liz's "bitch face" with arched eyebrows was in full effect! LOL. Liz walked upon a situation at her place of work, on the floor of the nurses' station. If people wish to keep private conversations private then they should meet in discrete areas. Some who dislike Liz wish to make her out as badly as possible while justifying Sam's actions. Sam is lying to Jason about highly important information while confiding in a virtual stranger who she knows Jason would be upset about. Sam's as wrong as she can be. Jason already knows Franco is apart of the situation, so Sam's lies make no sense to tell. I sided with her about withholding the info on Robin's death because Jason was in recovery but now he is well. I am so tired of JaSam. It's been the same conversation on loop. I'd rather watch Sonny and Kate and that says a lot.

Also, was I the only one who thought the actress slipped in and out of Connie's Brooklyn accent when playing Kate? It seemed especially apparent in her first scenes after waking up and in conversation with Sonny.

I'm just gonna come out and say it, I think the actress who portrays Starr is just terrible. They could send her away, and send Michael packing with her at this point, and bring back my beloved Lucy Coe.

I wouldn't mind seeing a John/Sam/Jason/Liz quad, at least it would be more interesting than watching Jasam constantly fretting over Franco.

Someone said that OLTL was too over the top camp, that's how I always felt about it, too. I tried watching it numerous times, but never was able to stick around because the acting was so over the top and some of the stories were silly. And I hate that RC has once again created a DID story, didn't find it appealing on OLTL and don't find it appealing now.

I agree Perkie, where IS Patrick?

I could watch Anna every day, so when she's not on, it's glaringly obvious. SO glad TPTB signed FH to a contract, the show desperately needed her.

Maggie could just plain disappear, without a word as to what happened, and I would be okay with that. At this point, Kate can go too. Sick of the Kate/Connie show

Thanks for mentioning the "acting" of SR, I too was wondering about why he is always out of breath! I can't figure out why he would do that on purpose, but then again, that character has always bugged me. He seems to overact all of his scenes. Just my opinion. As an aside, please lay off the fake tan, it makes you look old and weathered.

Leathery, yes, I love it! I think part of the problem is that his face is so skinny, it looks like he has extra "leather" hanging. I think if he was alittle paler, it would look much healthier. But then again, what do I know.

Loved the sonny - mcbain scenes and yes the maggie/steve stuff was strange on many fronts.

as for liz, heres my objection with the writing - first we get her with ewan where she asks if kate is a client. the first time, okay maybe thats verbal diarrhea, trying to figure out why kate was acting so strangely, but shes a nurse and she understands privacy so when she goes there AGAIN....cmon. Then we have her in the hallway with the chart. YES, she has every right to be in HER workplace, but she was obviously going SOMEWHERE - her destination wasnt the middle of the hallway - so why upon seeing sam did she stop and seemingly attempt to listen in to the conversation? If she was going past the two of them, typically you say excuse me and keep walking. if she was going in the other direction, again, keep walking. She has this Amy vining streak to her that she has to know everything thats going on around her. I know its a dated term but every time I see her i think "nosy nelly". And no, she doesnt know if sam has an apt. later with dr. lee, she only knows at that moment sam was with some guy. Does that make Sam right? NO. Does that make Sam's choice of location smart? NO Did I say that in my original post? YES But Sams poor choice of location didnt justify liz inserting lurking around and inserting herself in to their marriage AGAIN. (and for gosh sake, the only character that lurks more than liz is helena and that is saying something.) I just dont see why if they want to do this quad they have to write it this way. Why not have Sam meet John at her office. Why not have Jason go to the hospital and sam not be there and just run in to liz. Hmmm then sam doesnt look stupid and liz doesnt look nosy. Im just annoyed that the women are always written in the negative. I think, for example, that if sams rape had been written about sam, her lie now would make more sense and people would relate to her feelings more but instead her lie comes out of left field so shes the bad guy. Liz is once again lurking. Kates crazy. Maxie is half crazy and killed her cousin. Heathers crazy. Carlys an erratic woman with a penchant for mobsters who pays no attention to her children. Alexis is never on to be written negatively and anna just returned (but I have hope for her). Im just tired of all the scenes being written so the male characters look like the good guys and the women are chumped.

Interesting how two people on opposite sides of the fence (character wise) can see the same scene differently!!

I saw her stop and start to back away, like she thought she was intruding and didn't want to. She then half turned, as though to go the other way, at which point Jason got off the elevator and walked into her.

As for knowing whether Sam had an appointment or not, we've seen the writers play fast and loose on what exactly their nurses do at work all day, and we've seen Liz be Dr Lee's receptionist and tell whoever (can't remember if it was Sam or Carly) to go in, that Kelly was ready for them now.

So, it's possible that Liz would be aware of Kelly's schedule that day and knew that Sam didn't have an appointment.

Liz didn't say Sam didn't have an appt with Kelly. She said that Sam wasn't with Kelly and that she was around the corner with some guy.

I agree with your interpretation of the scene, Perkie. I saw it as Liz stopping, backing away, and then turning around. I did catch the eyebrown lift, but I was doing the same thing because when they cut away to the long shot of McBam they looked very flirty. Sam appeared to be smiling with her head and body doing a flirty twisting thing, which was not appropriate for what McBam were talking about. Maybe she broke scene and didn't realize she was being taped at that moment?

I also agree with EET in a way. I didn't see the scenes you way you did, EET, but I do agree that they did they scenes in a way that would cause friction between the fanbases and in way that could allow for interpretation.

I think the writer/producer knew exactly what they were doing with those two scenes. They wanted the friction between those 2 fanbases and from what I've read on other boards, they sure got it.

I agree that they always write the women on this show to look bad. I wish it would change, but something tells me it never will.

Well at least we agree on that aspect..and Im tired of it. I wish soap writers would GET that the soap genre hey day centered around STRONG women. Whether your a fan of Liz or a fan of Sam I think the triangle/quad would have far more punch and far more appeal if the women were written positively than always being made to look badly to the opposing fan base. I would also argue that the best triangles are the ones where you sort of like the person in the middle with either option (ie Jax/brenda/sonny in the beginning pre sonny becoming an asshat), not the ones where viewers are totally disgusted by the thought of the character choosing one of the two options (and lets face it, the way this triangle has been written I dont know that liz fans or sam fans will ever accept jason with the alternative. Its almost the point where I think they should put sam with mcbain and liz with ewan or matt or patrick and move jason on to someone totally different for awhile because its the only way not to have half the audience not in full on hate mode).

Personally - and this is just me - I enjoy Liz the most when they write her in compassionate mode (I almost always like the way they write her with Patrick for example) and I enjoy Sam the most when they write her in hero mode or friend/family mode. I am most annoyed by Liz when they insert her in to story somewhere because they dont give her story of her own and just want to use her somewhere on the canvas because thats usually when they have her playing third party or snarking at someone or being nosy nelly and I am most annoyed by sam when they have her in that sidekick/helpless mode that runs counter to what the character has been traditionally. I find that they most often write Liz and Sam in the latter modes when they want to stir up the fan bases and/or when they want to play up some male character as hero (usually lucky or jason). Again, this is just my opinion, but I find it unnecessary.

Staying in order...rather than skipping ahead...easier that way...

Okay. Steve's taking responsibility for Heather as his way of doing penance
and gaining redemption. I think Magpie killed Lisa. Now, go back to Memphis...

I think Liz is the most "normal" female he's dealt with since he's come to GH. The distinct pleasure he gets from seeing her and receiving thanks for their lunch date ("lunatic" Kate not withstanding),is evident in theasy smile and genuine warmth in his voice. Even when she gets a bit nosy after deducing that Kate is his patient, he's charmed by her awkward backtracking. His own awkward attempt at a joke "Sure you won't mind dating a murderer?" is met with confusion and then a ruefulk realization that she's had a hand in it, albeit unwittingly. "...may fault. I told them you were the mystery man..." "...I've been cleared..." Which opens
the way to another date. Do I see a pairing here?...

She's not aware of what's transpired overnight. She wakes with a little
smile having remembered what must have been sweet, pleasant. But it's gone when she finds the thank you note from "Connie" for "...letting me come out and play..." Cue the shakes and the "deer in the headlights", out of focus eyes. Which KSul does very well. You know something? I get Kate's
"noble" gesture of love and support for the bully: "Don't worry about me today..." (Why she's wasting it so foolishly on this creature I don't understand), but what if she actually told him about this DID? With his own bi-polar challenges, would he dismiss her mental difficulties? Would he get a clue (I'm guessing here), her "split" is related to him and his life? That last call to Ewan "That trial is the last place you should be...if "Connie" decides to come out...?" And just as she cuts him off, she might have cut her own mental stability off at the knees...

Gotta admire McBain going into the bullys' den. Laid back, low key,
voice dripping sarcasm as he regards the man in front of him, freshly pressed and turned out at this early hour. "...maybe a little trouble sleeping. Guilt will do that..." You can see he gets to the mob boss, who's more belligerent in espousing his innocence and how many cops have tried to get rid of him. And failed. "...I'm still here." And the come back: "...I'm still here. You know who isn't? My sister. 'Cause of you." Out in the open, the root of McBain's ire. And while the bully's current guilt or innocence is yet to be proven, this accusation is different. His tired "...go after Johnny Zacchara..." schpiel is met with a sneer and the ultimate truth about his existence. "All these people whose lives you destroy and it's never you fault, is it?" After McBain's been escorted out, his words, like a fog, envelop his brain. Hmm. Rattled? Or deciding how to get rid of the Llanview lieutenant?...

What Jr. knows about Starr is that her family backgroung gives the two of them a lot of material to compare and talk about. Even when they're on opposite sides of the same situation. "Can we make a rule...to...not
apologize for any of the insane things our fathers' do?" Sweetheart, apologies are second nature with what your fathers have done and continue to do. Her upset and tears (KA needs a "crying" coach, STAT), tug at him. I still think there's a part of him that wonders if his father is guilty. That he supports and encourages her is one thing. "How am I supposed to get through this...?" "...a second at a time..." "...I'm forgetting them." "You don't forget them. You take them with you." Supporting and encouraging her out in public, in front of the man who pretty much demanded no contact with her? Ouch! Wink Zinger. I love it...

The enforcer needs to clone himself, so he can be with his wife and at the trial. The irony with Sam is that, with who she's meeting, she doesn't want him tagging behind her. I have to admit SBu looked so "expectant father to be", talking about the check up, the heartbeat: "...I don't want to miss any of it, not like...Jake..." Ooh. Twinge. Spinelli's advantageous arrival (for her), with news of Kate distracts him back to his other "problem", that being who framed his boss. The geek is helpful but throws shade into the mix. "I don't know what to do with this..." That Kate "...might be a danger to herself and others. What kind of havoc could she wreak...?" isn't anything they'd thought about. And we've only seen a tiny snippet of that havoc...

That DNA sample is worth it's weight in platinum. "I know you wanna protect him...you're still lying to the guy." "...I hate what I'm doing."
(And I think she does.) "Then stop..." Not bad advice. But she's gone this far. And then the kicker: "...What happens if the baby's Franco's?" Talk about a "Bite your tongue!" facial expression. I can only imagine what her face would express if she caught sight of Liz rounding the corner,
stopping, wheeling around to go back where she came from. Or heard her husbands voice as he stepped off the elevator...

Till next time...
