Fans of the groundbreaking, black family soap Soul Food will want to tune in for the premiere of My Momma Throws Down tonight at 8 pm EST on TV One. TV's former Joseph sisters: Nicole Ari Parker (Teri), Vanessa A. Williams (Maxine) and Malinda Williams (Bird) are serving as guest judges on the premiere of the foodie competition show. The actresses will be joined by Dr. Jessica Harris as they are tasked with decided between the matriarchs of two rival families, who swear their respective mommas can out cook the other family's Madea!
I just published an interview on our sister site Pop Confidential where the host of My Momma Throws Down, comedian Ralph Harris, provides a sneak peek at the new reality show. Here's a snippet:
PC: With series like Chef Roble on Bravo and Sweetie Pie's on OWN, the market for cooking shows centered on people of color seems to be picking up. How will My Momma Throws Down stand out from the pack?
RH: I think it will stand out. I really don’t know those shows as well, but these are real moms that haven’t been running a restaurant or a catering business. They’ve really been at home feeding their families. One thing I love about the show is that they never know what dish they will be preparing until we tell them. So it’s like “Oh, we’re making squash casserole? I’ve never done that, but I can do it.” It’s a fun show you can watch with your family. In fact, ever since TV One put up the Facebook page for My Momma Throws Down, we’ve had people wanting to know how they can audition their moms. Tonight’s episode is gonna be crazy. We have Vanessa Williams, Nicole Ari Parker and Malinda Williams from the TV show Soul Food—which is airing right now on TV One —as judges, along with Dr. Jessica Harris.
PC: Oh I love Soul Food!
RH: I just watched two episodes myself back-to-back! We have quite a few guest judges this season from celebrities to athletes and again, I tasted everything!
Be sure to check out the premiere of My Momma Throws Down tonight at 8 pm EST on TV One. Then, on Sunday, May 6, catch a special Mother's Day marathon starting at 8 pm EST!
