LIVE BLOG: The 39th Annual Daytime Emmys!

The 39th Annual Daytime Emmys are finally upon us. Who will walk away with a golden statue tonight? Who will be the best dressed? The worst dressed? All those questions and more will be answered tonight during the broadcast!

We will begin the live blog shortly, but in the meantime, drop me a line in the comments on your expectations for the night and of course your favorites to win.

**All Individual Category Wins will appear after this post""

DEAR SOAP GODS: Please don't let this be like last year's hot mess! Aaand AWAY WE GO...

We begin with Anderson Cooper and Oscar the Grouch. I'm not gonna lie y'all; Anderson Cooper is a silver fox! He could get it! Anderson gives us a little run down of what were celebrating, and Oscar is well, being a grouch. He sings a song about why he can't stand Daytime Teleivision. Anderson tells Oscar about all the great things that have happened in daytime, and he begins with Luke and Laura's wedding. Anderson goes on to introduce:

Chad Duell, Nathan Parsons, Chandler Massey and Eddie Alderson! They're presenting the award for:

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES

We're starting wth lead actor! Very interesting.

And the Emmy Goes To...

ANTHONY GEARY from General Hospital

We'll I'm not too surprised by this one folks. Anthony's reel was amazing and he deserved it! Anthony gives a good speech and jokes about GH almost being cancelled for a sure fire ratings winner "Celebrity Boob Jobs Gone Wrong". DEAD! He pulled the shade ALL the way down on ABC!

I can't tell y'all how happy I am that I haven't heard one thing about Las Vegas, or what hotel to stay in during this broadcast!

The ladies of The Talk aroe out and I wish Aisha Tyler's dress was not! Bless Her Heart! OH LAWD, Now the ladies of The Talk are SHADING the ladies from The View. Sheryl Underwood being Elizabeth Hasselback made me laugh out loud! The ladies are here to present:

OUTSTANDING GAME SHOW HOST

And the Emmy Goes To...

TODD NEWTON from Family Game Night

Congrats to Todd! Sorry, I didn't know your show existed, but good job on winning. He gives a nice speech of the usual thank-yous.

The Talk lades also present:

OUTSTANDING GAME/AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION SHOW

And The Emmy Goes To...

JEOPARDY!

I'm a little sad Cash Cab didn't win. There are all kinds of characters that show up in the cab. The ladies of the The Talk are looking a little lost up there...kind of like on their show everyday. Whoops, did I say that?!? Anywho, the behind the scenes crew of Jeopardy accept the award.

I LOVE these black and white segments of various people involved in Daytime Television talking about all the work that goes into producing shows and why the genre should be celebrated. Nice Touch HLN!

Eric Braden is out and looking quite dapper. He begins by shouting "Dew YEW KNOW WHEW I AM?!?! I AM...""Oh, Wait! That didn't happen, only in my head. LOL! He presents the award for:

OUTSTANDING LEGAL COURTROOM PROGRAM

And The Emmy Goes To...

"LAST SHOT" WITH JUDGE GUNN

These judge shows have never appealed to me! However, that could be because I'm a baby. Everyone else doesn't look to thrilled with these awards either.

Eric's still with us and he speaks about how difficult it can be to put together a daytime drama. He presents the award for:

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES WRITING TEAM

And The Emmy Goes To....

If the Young and The Restless gets this I will THROW UP!

DAYS OF OUR LIVES

We'll cut my legs and call me shorty! Days of Our Lives WON for writing. I'm happy they picked up an award! I thought General Hospital had it in the bag, but Days winning is acceptable. Oh yeah and, "EVERYBODY GIT DOWN! EVERYBODY GIT DOWN!"

Peter Bergman looking very nice comes out to present:

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES

And The Emmy Goes To....

Uh-Oh y'all. I feel like were moving a warp speed all of a sudden!

JONATHAN JACKSON from General Hospital.

Once again, this is another award where I'm not surprised. Jonathan was simply AMAZING in his reel and story last year on General Hospital. I love how Jonathan just gave props to Anthony Geary for the award!

Sandra Lee from Semi-Homemade Cooking aka Let's Drink for an hour just gave the latest "Let's Celebrate Daytime" montage. I swear she makes a drink at the end of every show.

Rachael Ray enters the stage and I'm not sure what's going on with her dress. Who put her in that?! She presents the award for:

OUTSTANDING LIFESTYLE/CULINARY HOST

And the Emmy Goes To...

SANDRA LEE from Semi-Homemade Cooking

Congrats, Sandra for cooking and of course drinking!

Rachael also presents

OUTSTANDING CULINARY PROGRAM

And the Emmy Goes To...

BOBBY FLAY'S BARBEQUE ADDICTION

I'd be lying if I said I didn't watch all those shows. Congrats to Bobby! I wonder if he's going to say something off the wall in his speech. Y'all know he's good for that, I watched those old episodes of Iron Chef when it was translated to English. I know!

Don Diamont and his fine self comes out to present:

OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES

I'm not going to lie, y'all. I want Eddie Alderson to come away with this one!

And The Emmy Goes To...

CHANDLER MASSEY from Days Of Our Lives

DAYS is coming up BIG tonight! I'm pretty gutted that Eddie didn't win.

Barbara Walters is on my screen. Where is the music for 20/20?!? Yeah, right! ABC wouldn't give the license for that music. Babs is going on and on about her shows and I'm yawning. She leads us into a package for the Lifetime Achievement Award Winner tonight: Bill Geddie! Kudos to you Bill Geddie! He's a Texan! AND He's a fellow University of Texas Longhorn! HOOK EM HORNS! Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

Oh mercy! Here comes Dr. Drew. I'm so tired of seeing this man on my television I could spit nails. He presents the award for:

OUTSTANDING MORNING PROGRAM

And The Emmy Goes To...

THE TODAY SHOW

OOOOOOO!! Shelley Hennig is KILLING these other ladies with her sweetheart cut dress! GET IT GIRL!! WERK! The Younger Actress Nominess are out to present:

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES

And The Emmy Goes To...

HEATHER TOM from The Bold and the Beautiful

GO HEATHER!!! This is defintely an upset night! I'm happy to see her win! I've been watching this woman act since I can remember. Her reel was truly great! Color me surprised that La Slezak didn't win, but I'm perfectly fine with Heather winning. I must say she is glowing!

Kim Coles is here and I'm not sure why, but I digress. She presents the award for:

OUTSTANDING TALK SHOW INFORMATIVE

And The Emmy Goes To...

THE DR. OZ SHOW

I've tried to watch that show so many times, but I can't. He kind of scares me a little bit. He looks like a less scary version of Willem Dafoe. Maybe that's just me. Anywho, Congrats to him!

This broadcast could be a little tighter. There have been dead moments, people waiting for their que to come on and those random shots of people. Tighten up, people!

Kim also presents:

OUTSTANDING TALK SHOW ENTERTAINMENT

And The Emmy Goes To...

LIVE WITH REGIS AND KELLY

I kind of wanted Ellen to win this one. Personally, her show is the most entertaining.

Jack Hanna and Debbie Gibson come on stage with some strange animals. HEAVEN ON EARTH!! Jack has one of those Giant Mutated Cock Roaches crawlin on his shirt?!! Jesus, Keep Me Near The Cross! This show has officially went to the jungle! I CAN. NOT. with that cock roach! Take Me to the River and WASH ME DOWN!!!!

All I'm saying is that I don't see the insects and animals on other award shows. And we weren't doing so bad for a while. Heavy. Doggone. Sigh.
They present the award for:

OUTSTANDING CHILDREN'S ANIMATED PROGRAM

And The Emmy Goes To...

PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR

I must admit, those penguins are pretty funny.

Jack, Debbie and the bugs are back to present another award. SWEET MERCY! There's a doggone alligator on stage. These people are outside of their mind!

OUTSTANDING PERFORMER IN A CHILDREN'S SERIES

And The Emmy Goes To...

KEVIN CLASH as ELMO from SESAME STREET

Y'all know Debbie Gibson is thinking "I'm an 80's singer! Get these animals OUT OF HERE!! Where's my microphone?!?! Where did I go wrong?"

Bethenny Frankel jokes about having to come on after a alligator. I'm not mad at cha honey. I would have acted a plum fool. She presents the award for:

AOL BEST VIRAL VIDEO

And The Award Goes To...

"A Blank Screen?!?! Is some playing a joke on me with the blank screen and the alligator right now?" The production continues to go downhill as we go on. Come on everyody, tighten up!

KIDS REACT

I haven't seen this video, but the little one in red was cute!

The cast of The Doctors are out and the one woman is WERKING her red dress! She looks FIERECE!! They present the award for:

OUTSTANDING NEW APPROACHES IN DAYTIME ENTERTAINMENT

And The Emmy Goes To...

TAKE THIS LOLLIPOP

I wanted Clarence to win this one. Even though his recaps are nowhere near new, as he did the same for The Young and the Restless for years prior, it would have been nice to see him get an award. I've never heard of "Take This Lollipop" but is it similar "To Catch A Predator". It sounds like it from the titie.

The lovey and talented Finola Hughes in a leopard print dress is now on my screen. She so beautiful y'all, but I'm not sure about her dress. She presents:

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES

And The Emmy Goes To...

NANCY LEE GRAHN from General Hospital

NANCY WON!!! AND she's not even there, but y'all better believe she is on Twitter right now acting a fool!!! I knew Nancy was a dark horse in this one. The UPSETS just keep coming tonight!

SUSAN LUCCI!!!! La Lucci look FABOOSH as usual! Susan gives a speech about All My Children and the infamous Erica Kane!

"Don't cry because something is over, smile because it was." LOVE THIS QUOTE!

Susan invites Cameron Mathison and Erika Slezak on stage with her. I knew we weren't going to get though an Emmy show without seeing Cameron. I'd rather see Robin Strasser up there with the other two, but I digress. LA SLEZAK LOOKS AWESOME!!! I miss seeing these people on daytime! They thank us all for supporting the soaps.

"We Love You and We'll Miss You"- Cameron Mathison, Susan Lucci and Erika Slezak. Same to y'all. Same. TO. Y'ALL.

I wish we could have seen some clips of the shows, but I guess beggers can't be choosers. The show almost wasn't broadcast this year.

Lisa Rinna in a decent dress comes out to present the award for:

OUTSTANDING TALK SHOW HOST

And The Emmy Goes To...

REGIS PHILBIN AND KELLY RIPA

Why do I almost feel like Regis is getting these awards because he retired. Yeah, I said it.

The fabulous Deidre Hall has graced my screen. She looks AWESOME!!! She presents the award for:

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES DIRECTING TEAM

Come on One Life!!

And The Emmy Goes To...

GENERAL HOSPITAL

Poor One Life! They really were the red headed step child of ABC. However, General Hosptial's reel was great for this category. Congrats.

What is that background music?!?! Also, WHY is it so noisy?? Sigh.

Now comes the time to recognize all those we have lost in daytime this year. RIP!

Kristian Alfonso who looks FANTASTIC in this yellow dress comes out to present:

OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES

And The Emmy Goes To...

CHRISTEL KHALIL from The Young and the Restless

We'll she finaly won one. I predicted she had this one in the bag. I'm a little sad Shelley didn't pull it out, but Christel has a really really good reel.

Maria Arena Bell. BHDCLZOFWEOZLCKANkl <--Sorry, y'all I temporarily went into convulstions upon seeing this woman.

La Lucci returns to the stage to present the last award of the evening:

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES

I'm STILL bitter One Life to Live wasn't nominated for this one. If The Young and the Restless gets it, I. WILL. RAGE.

And The Emmy Goes To...

GENERAL HOSPITAL

I can completely accept this one. They submitted some great eps. Even though, it would have been nice to see All My Children get it.

Well folks, that's it for me. We had a decent show. I'm just happy it was on the air and actually celebrated daytime television. Let me know your thoughts about the show in the comments section. Thank y'all and goodnight!

Show was marginally better, but not great at all. Seems to be the General Hospital night. The only folks I'm extremely happy for is:

Chandler Massey - AWESOME!!!
Heather Tom - would've preferred Erika Slezak or Debbie Morgan, but since they didn't win I'm fine with Heather. She IS a great actress.

GH won again! Yay! It was fitting that Phelps accepted the award. Is it me or does it feel bittersweet that she is gone. I am just not on the FV train yet, although there are improvements in things such as lighting. But GH had a feel that seperated it from all the other soaps, however since FV has taken over, that difference is gone.

So was this the last year for AMC? or no? Someone on Twitter was sad because he thought this was it for AMC and he was complaining about the last person to win for AMC (I don't remember the name of the actress).

BTW, that music is going to haunt my dreams tonight!

Jasam--Put it this way: Next year, if they give out awards for high-camp, shirtless men, or most creative use of flashbacks, GH will definitely be in the running!

I thought it was better than the last couple of years. Last year it was one big infamercial. The only reason it was distasteful to me this time was the fact it was so evident that daytime soaps (dramas) are such a small percentage now.

Hate to say it but even Tony Geary's joke about the replacement show did not draw that much laughter from crowd. It bombed a bit except for the soap opera people. I felt a little uncomfortable at that moment for TG.

I am glad the kid from Days won. He has done such good work. He is going to go places after this gig.

I believe I happened to see the Heather scenes she won for. I don't watch everyday but I think I caught it the day she was having the blowout with her hubby. Lot of emotion.

Glad Nancy L Grahn won. She is class act.

I am not sure how TG wins all the time. I prefer his character as of late but he won for past work. Oh well. I just like to see mature actors grow. He is finally acting his age now.

Jonathan Jackson is like TG. They both win on similar material.

I am disappointed to some degree Erica S did not take it home. I miss watching her change personalities on a dime.

Like I said it is obvious that soaps are just like game shows were back in the day, only a small percentage of daytime at this point. It is sad. I have been trying to catch all four at this point. GH the most since they have new team. I was not fan of other team.

Oh did anyone notice how the actors gave kudos to Guza/Phelps. Almost over the top praise. I think they both had pets and featured them to the hilt. Now their security is gone. Interesting. The show would have been gone if a change was not made. It is just that the favored ones are not favored anymore. They know it.

The first daytime emmy show that I ever remembered watching was when it was a live special in the daytime. The show started with a woman singing about her love of daytime while running through the streets of NYC like a crazy person. Thus, I have always felt that any emmmy's would top that show; and this one did.

It was fast paced. The live slip-ups added drama, and it seemed both well lit and produced.

Just a couple of notes:
1. Was it weird to have Rachel Ray present for a category for which she was eligible; but not nominated?
2. Was it weirded when Paula Deen wasn't there?
3. Susan Lucci [check], Erica Slezak [Check], Cameron Mathison?
4. Similar matrix: Agnes Nixon introducing La Lucci [check], followed by Ricky Paul Golden?

But don't listen to me I wish they would bring back the Soap Opera Digest Awards or even Merv Griffin's Soapy Awards......

I don't know why everyone "was hating" on the show this year? Have you watched the Emmys the past ten years? Soaps haven't gotten any love for years, especially the last five years or so.

There were some technical glitches, to be sure, but I am thankful to HLN and these Emmys for showing love, finally, to the work that goes into entertaining me on a weekly basis. We had new winners, we had veterans win... all in all, it was a relatively good mix. If HLN picks this up next year, I'm sure it will be better produced. But for once, I don't think we should complain. They did this for us this time.

Thanks again The_Moustache for directing me to that site, I'm still glad I got a chance to watch.

I was reminded that Anthony Herrera (James Stenbeck/ATWT) was not included in the In Memoriam tribute. Did I miss something? I didn't see him either. If he wasn't included, this would hurt.

Anthony Herrera passed away on June 21, 2011.

i wonder if there was some kind of rules or something on eligibility to be included in the memoriam??

Hi All....I wouldn't think the In Memoriam would have any sort of eligibility other than ensuring the performer was associated with the daytime community. Herrera should have been included, along with Francisco Quinn (Y&R), Farley Grainger (ATWT), Kenneth Mars (Animated shows), and ESPECIALLY Elizabeth Taylor (GH, AMC)!

Maurice Benard's name was misspelled as Maurice BeRnard.
I wish Jonathan Frid had gotten more applause. RIP.
Jonathan Jackson must have converted from Evangelical Christianity to Eastern Orthodoxy.
Lisa Vultaggio was shown more frequently than any current soap actor.
I loved Tony Geary's joke even though it got few laughs.
Congrats to all especially the Days of Our lives winners. It's been so long...

The show was much improved from past years, imo.

SOoooooooooCHEAP! The Award show looks so bad and the show itself was embarrasing!!!!
WHAT ON EARTH AND HOW DID JILL FARREN PHELPS win BEST SHOW with GENERAL HOSPITAL...POOR RATINGS, reruns MOB stories, adventure/action story......

DOOL should and could have won...simple human being drama about life and GH is a cartoon!

RUMORS that B&B was to be nominated but somebody complains and knows that BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL (#1 Drama serial in the World) would have won a Fourth Year in A ROW! BUT whoever that female bitch from the committee refuse to nominate B&B because she s from ABC!

AND poor Lucci & Slezak, no clips or memories of the show but just a 2 minutes thank you?!

AND TONY GEARY need to give other new generations of actors to win from GH, he is repeating the same performance every year, !!!!

The AWARDS was so cheap my mouth was shocked and saddenned by it! I hope it goes to maybe the E Network! if CBS or NBC doesnt want it! Dinsey-ABC is done with soaps, so GH is gone next year!

Heather Tom is the best actress and won what she deserved and so did Jonathan Jackson!

This was a dressed down bare bones straight out awards program. There was one song, no computer anything, a few pretaped interviews, and more awards handed out than I ever remembered before on screen. Who got those awards were fine for the most part (although should a web show that can be seen 24/7/365 be considered daytime? Especially when it isn't even on tv?) but nobody is ever really happy with who wins. That is part of the fun. I am just glad to see that Chandler Massey got his due. He deserves every accolade for this role. I enjoyed the squirming around with that cockroach which I kept my eye on the whole time. I kept thinking it was gonna get loose and crawl up someones dress! The aligator was fun too. Probably the most entertaining part of the evening. I was appreciative that they mentioned GL and ATWT in the tribute to the canceled shows. I would have loved to see a nice montage at this point. But apparently there was not a budget for that. Maybe more cast members would have been nice too. I noticed that the same music played pretty much throughout the entire production. That was kind of irritating.
Over all though I want to thank HLN for hosting the Awards. I do not feel abused like I did for the previous two years. If the network gets good numbers off the program, I am sure the entertainment value and pyrotechniques of the show will pick up!

This should be the last one of these spectacles the general public has to endure. Time to pull the plug on this sad insider's affair. A waste of time and so insulting to the viewing audience. Enough is enough.

They need to retire the daytime Emmys. If ABC cancels GH, there will be no need to have them again. It's a joke.

I fail to see what was so bad about the production considering they had about 3 weeks and on a little known network.

Maybe its because of the Vegas infomercial that has happened in the past but I didn't think it was so bad.

My friend who has never watched kept saying "OMG why do they have so many talk show categories" I told her its because they keep cancelling my soaps! This is what happens when they cancel my stories!

Speaking of the Soap Opera Digest Awards - I remember going to the newsstand by the studio of one the soaps (CBS Radford, where Days taped for years) and seeing extra crates of SOD because the shows used to buy them up to influence the voting. It was the most corrupted awards show out there.

The Emmy's are awfully serious and self-important. Remember in the 90's when actors became offended at too many sex scene montages? I bet some of those actors would beg for any montage, let alone a full scene, after last night's show.

After the Emmy's I youtubed an episode of Eastenders Revealed - which are clip show specials done by the British soap at the end of a big storyline. It reminded of how exciting soap promotion can be and what a letdown SoapNet was.

Well, I still say despite the cheap music and graphics that it was better than the last several years. These awards did seem to be about daytime and not Las Vegas, which I can appreciate. I thought what was more troubling was that alot of the actors looked mad/angry/bitter during much of the proceedings.
