More Self-Adoration From Exiting The Young and the Restless Showrunner Maria Arena Bell on Facebook

Soap Opera Digest has posted more lyrics from fired The Young and the Restless showrunner Maria Arena Bell's Facebook swan song. In it, she continues on about how much everyone loved her and how devastated they all are.

Funny, the Y&R cast has been pretty much radio silent on Twitter. Love her or hate her, but when Ri Ri's Y&R replacement, Jill Farren Phelps, was shown the door at General Hospital, much of the cast tweeted support — in their own words. As it is though, La Bell is only too happy to share how beloved she was, whether anyone else is saying it or not! Stated Bell:

"When I said my farewell today to the company of The Young and The Restless I stood between Eric Braeden [Victor], Peter Bergman [Jack], Melody Thomas Scott [Nikki] and addressed everyone. Then, spontaneously, each of them said something that was profoundly moving to me about how much they appreciated me, my work, my storytelling, my vision. The moment that will stay with me for the rest of my life was looking out at a se...a of faces, many of them in tears. And then Eric Braeden who was choking back tears himself to the point he could barely speak said that my leaving was a travesty that made no sense and that "This is the end of an era." In that moment I could feel my heart break a little... but I also felt that the commitment I had to that show... the seven day a week fifty two week a year craziness of it all was worth it... because I was part of the history of something truly great."

Sigh. Oh Maria, let's move on. I'm sure there's a fundraiser for the speckled Geese population of Pacific Palisades for you to plan. Let's leave the soap opera producing and writing to the professionals, shall we?

My prediction is JFP will run Y&R into the ground, get fired, the show will be cancelled, and THEN Kay Alden and Jack Smith will be asked to return to write the show off on a high note.

Kind of like what happened with Lorraine Broderick and AMC although Lorraine had been on the job a week before the axe fell.

You're right David46208. The $ and detail spent on Hamp and Jilly's wedding was unheard of for a black couple at that time. I remember being very proud of it when it aired.

I think it's the vets who will be getting shown the door.
Beverlee McKinsey, Robin Strasser, Genie Francis just to name a few that JFP got out the door one way or another.
Why it was ever allowed is beyond me.

I bet Sony's Steve Kent was using Todd's ringtone "crazy calling" for his calls from MAB.

And yes, I don't have seen ANY actor of Y&R speak out on Twitter. After Michelle Stafford posted something about a sad thing that happened, she even did clear it up eventually and said that it had nothing to do with news regarding Y&R.

@Ryan-Scott: Oh yes they did and Monti-Sharp won an Daytime Emmy for Best Leading actor for his "on the run storyline." Back then GL invested in its African American characters. They gave them such depth.

Could we get this again at Y&R like we use to have? Who knows. But it would start with bringing back Vicky Rowell.

SMDH! Is she for real? MAB, get over it already. It's not like you're going to start struggling to pay bills now. Sony finally decided to take your hobby away from you and now it's time to move on.

Eric Braeden was probably crying because he knows JFP doesn't play those games on the set. Finally, I bet you someone will tell this man who really runs shit on the set.

If her Facebook writing is any indication of her Y&R writing, I understand the consternation and constipation of many faithful viewers.

JFP just might be the Ex-Lax that Y&R needs.

damn, this is better than dialogue from Twilight and The Hunger Games.

the reality is that NO ONE was there when she was leaving and this wackjob had to write some fan-fiction to make herself sound better.

Everytime this lady gives an interview you can tell it's someone delusional and loves to talk about themself. And she loves to talk about how great she is at her job and how well the show is doing, and that's because no one else is.

I would have really loved to have been a fly on the wall at that going away party. First off she was gone fast, and you know the cast and crew were high fiving and giving each other looks behind her back lol.

And EB chocking back the tears? Really? I think she needs to take her medication.

And regarding JFP and african american actors, I think Guiding Light was the only one where she had big, front stories for them. She sure did with David, Kat, Gilly, Hamp, and Vivian (Charles here and there lol). I don't remember her stories on AW and I'd prefer to forget her on OLTL lol.

EB is probably crying since they'll probably go back to putting him with age appropriate women. Somewhere, Sharon Case smiles.

And the delusions continue; apparently the woman thought having Bell attached to the end of her name guaranteed her a permanent spot at Y&R. At this point someone should name a damn vibrator after her ass because I haven't seen this much self-loving in years.

Well the only woman that would be age appropriate for TGVN is Kay

This is the best piece of fiction MAB has ever written. Why couldn't she just write this type of stuff on Y&R?

Maybe it isn't Maria Arena Bell posting, but her crazy doppelganger. Or maybe she has a split personality. This just doesn't seem the postings of someone who's living in the real world.

And Re: JFP and African American actors, take a look at her tenure on GH. Justus was killed off, Maya faded away and was her sister ever seen? Lanie is locked in a broom closet somewhere in GH. Epiphany who had great potential (and still does) has mostly been window dressing or propping up other characters, they killed off her son whose name I forget when the actor left the show. So I don't hold out much hope for good things for the black actors on Y&R unless they decide to pursue Victoria Rowell for a come back.

This release makes me think there is something to Scientology. It is quite apparent to me that MAB and the cast have apparently been to outer space and some of it got stuck between their ears.Although I will go with her on part of her statement. She has been part of history being on a great show. Unfortunately she has mostly taken the great show and shredded it. I am not going to take up for JFP too much but there are some major differences between these two women. One is that JFP knows how to run a show with high calibre scenery, good actors and well told stories. Yes frequently we hate those stories and she is complete misogynistic to middle aged to older women. But atleast they are stories and not headlines or twit sized stories like MAB writes. Secondly the woman has connections with the soap world. She does not have to rely on people temporarily out of rehab or famous 30 years ago. She can bring us the best of daytime. Crew, writers, cast. JFP is miles away better than MAB. She might not have been my choice but she is a much better choice than MAB

WELL I WOULD NEVER WATCH ANYTHING THAT TAKES THE PLACE OF A SOAP. THAT GOES FOR ALL THOSE DUMB SHOWS. THE CHEW, GOOD AFTERNOON AMERICA, LETS MAKE A DEAL, WHAT EVER ELSE IS OUT THERE..

I HAVE SEEN ERIC INTERVIEWED BEFORE AND HE IS PRETTY COOL. PRETTY MUCH BUSINESS SO TO SPEAK AND SO I CANT IMAGINE HE IS THAT HEARTBROKEN OVER HER.

THIS WOMAN HAS HIRED OLD TV STARS THAT REALLY DONT WORK ANYMORE, PUT THEM INT HE SHOW, TORTURE US FANS WITH IT ALL. ITS NO WONDER THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE SHOWS THAT ARE ON SHOULD BE HIRING SOAP OPERA ACTORS. THERE ARE SO MANY OUT THERE TRYING TO FIND JOBS. STAY TRUE TO FORM. THATS A BIG ISSUE.

PPL WANT TO SEE SOAP ACTORS PLAY SOAP ROLES. AT LEAST THATS HOW I FEEL.

JFP will be a good plus for Y&R. The focus will shift to the next generation, hopefully in a gradual and positive way. Victor, Nikki, and Jack need to take a backseat to what happens in GC. Let Kyle, Summer, Noah, Fen, take their place in the sun now. Billy, Vicky, Nicky, Cane, Lily will still be around, I'm sure.

It sounds like SONY just 'made their move', to get younger viewers. I really dont want to see the xxxxx@xxxxx.com that MAB has produced the last year. Stupid Gen & BoN over the Winter. The Phyllis Show. Sharon the Crazy Clown. How much more could we take?

She was EP of GL '91-'95, there was Marcus and his dad on her watch which the story about Gilly & Vivian over Marcus's dad Griffin, Dalia (fab Sharon Leal)so I think JFP will keep AA and possibly inhance the dynamic. Possibly, we will see Nathan Jr truly emerage and Tonya returning to help set up Nate as major character. Maybe, she can give Harmony, Sarge, Winters a good story the is befitting to these top notch actors that deserve it. Maybe, JFP can do the impossible (doubtful but hopeful) bring VR back as Dru. As for Genie, MAB pet could be disposed of down the road.

@harlee490: Yep Harlee she had them too. Kevin M. woman two daytime Emmy's. So we are on the same page.

They can get rid of the characters Patch aka Tucker and Genevieve as start. These actors command money and have done nothing for the show. I'm on the fence about Debbie and Darnell as Harmony and Sarge. I think if Y&R went back and erased the last 3 years through having a long term character like say Kay had stroke and was in a coma for several years and woke up saying she had a dream where all Maria's mess happened then we could start fresh.

Well, regardless of Maria Arena's exit, I don't give a crap if we get some new titles. I moaned about this in August 2008, and I'm still waiting. Will a rebranding be next on the list?

Re any axing of stars:
I think Adam and Chelsea have more charisma, chemistry and credibility than any of the other couples. This pairing should be left alone so that the former sociopath and former con artiste can continue to show up the dysfunctional Newman siblings.
Billy Miller lends his star power to whoever he's on screen with, but it is heavy-lifting indeed to imbue the current Victoria with any life. She should be sent home to raise her children with her husband, JT. She drones, moans, and hair-acts throughout each scene. Chelsea would have made a good Victoria.
Cane is a bore, but I don't mind Genevieve if they can decide who she is... soon.
We need Jill Foster back, STAT.

I just hope JFP has traded in her soap slaughtering ax, SB, GL, OLTL, just to name a few of her past work. Remember, you know the devil you have, but not the one you may get. I just hope I am wrong.

@david46208...yes we are, don't get me wrong I'm nervous about JFP but I think this IS a necessary evil. I honestly believe we will see an improvement in younger cast, tweaks in production, and will surprise us because a simple reason JFP has a chance of life time, being the EP of the number one soap and the beating she has taken with GH publicly, and her past blunders (which are huge)and being back CBS we will see a show more grounded and intelligent. She's not idiot and if she can manage to shore up and rid the over bloating cast...the next phase is a bloodbath on cast. The writers will change but w\agreement Josh. I could actually see past writers Nancy Curlee, Stephen Demorest for example from CBS (GL era) being on writing staff, not as many from GH.

The facts are there in Emmy wins for cast...Michael Z, Maeve K, Melissa H, Monty Sharp, Justin Deas, Rick Hearst all won Emmys for example. What she did do right created Eleni (triangle w\Frank & AM) Jenna, Ginger, Nick McHenry, Matt Reardon, Annie Dutton, Lucy, Hart. She did Holly & Fletch Meg's down symdrome story, brought back Reva, created Abigal before she left. She created AC Mallet & Julie, did Ross's Senate story, bringing together Ross, Blake, Holly triangle. She brought back Amanda. Her stinkers were there too, Tangie, Eve, Maureen's death, losing BM, not having KZ (available) return earlier we got Reva's ghost story and Reva Amish, simply because she didn't want Reva character, for example. She had lasting impression on GL's canvas after leaving. If she can muster the natural growth of characters where needed and Josh's writing, Y&R could be good hands.

I wonder if the actors were choking back tears because the grim reaper, in the form of JFP, is on her merry way to destroy yet another show. Why decades of failure continues to be allowed in corporate and government America is beyond anything I can imagine. MAB and her awful head writing team needed to go and stat; but if Sony truly cared about Y&R, the fans, and the Bell legacy, they would have sought and hired an individual who truly understands the show, its history and its characters' motivations. This individual is not JFP. The single glimmer of hope here is the Josh Griffith is returning as head writer. Otherwise, for me, this whole story is one where there seems to be no positive outcome.

I think you're giving JFP too much credit for the great stories that were told in the early '90s. Guiding Light had a group of really strong, experienced writers at the helm (Stephen Demorest, James E. Reilly, Nancy Curlee, Lorraine Broderick)when JFP became EP. How much input did she really have in those first few years? Or did she just stay out of their way and do her job (keep the lights on)? We know that when she meddled, we got revolving headwriters, the loss of wonderful characters/actors and the debacle known as Tangie Hill. When it was bad, it was really, really bad and P&G finally gave her the boot. When all was said and done, she did leave a lasting impression on GL -- she built the coffin they were buried in.

@MsNixon... EP sets the direction and GL didn't have "revolving" HW, the ones you named many were on Pam Long's staff (most) as for JER & LB, both had left shortly after JFP arrived. Curlee, Stephen Demorest, Patrick Mulcahey, Nancy Williams Watt, Millee Taggert, and Sheri Anderson were solid for about a good 3 years with JFP. Many of them had been with GL for several years is why there wasn't a "slaughter" of stories, dropping stories, because of this fact. After she left we did have a revolving door until James & Barbara. Yes, some new stories of her direction. But she could have let the writers DO THEIR JOB and WRITE...as you stated and CBS had Lucy Johnson Senior Vice President of Daytime Programming for 14 years...the longest running daytime president of networks and she let the soaps write & produce with a watchful eye. She wasn't as meddlesome and ego trip as Barbara Bloom. She didn't play around if one of her soap's stories wasn't working she corrected it quickly. All CBS soaps experienced consistent, social issued stories under her and kept the ratings to CBS likening and profitable. Please don't miss understand me as I have said I'm nervous, doubtful but hopeful because JFP is vastly better then what we received the last 4 years from MAB. I want my CBS's soaps I have left to last and will support this change.
