HomeTVAll My ChildrenGood Afternoon America Down 57 Percent From One Life to Live’s W18-49 Numbers This Time Last Year Jamey Giddens August 3, 2012 All My Children, Good Afternoon America, Good Morning America, One Life to Live 19 Comments Good Morning America may be breaking records, but its spinoff vehicle continues to lay a smelly, rotten egg on the ABC afternoon lineup. Think of it as Baywatch Nights to Baywatch. According to TV Media Insights, Good Afternoon America was down 57 percent—during the most recent Nielsens cycle—from One Life to Live's numbers among the coveted women 18-49 demo year-to-date. The limited-run series, which replaced OLTL's successor The Revolution, was watched by just 1.7 million total viewers the week in question. That's 39 percent less than the number of folks who were tuning in for the scripted shenanigans of Viki, Dorian, Blair and Todd last year. All My Children's replacement, The Chew didn't do much better for the week. The foodie fest was off AMC's W18-49 digits by a whopping 32 percent. Anne Sweeney may never admit it, but she has to be second guessing having Brian Frons carry out a hit on both of Agnes Nixon's long-running sudsers back-to-back. If Anne Sweeney were to get the boot for these outrageous “Go ahead and cancel ‘em” decisions on AMC and OLTL, all the better… 0:) Log in to Reply RealityCheck 33 August 3, 2012 When ABC started its path of destruction by killing both AMC and OLTL, I said they would destroy something they had built for many generations and have a long term impact on the network. I was right. CBS might not admit it, but killing ATWT was a similar move. I do believe GL was destroyed from within, but ATWT was worth saving and CBS should have bought the program from P&G and folded it in with Y&R and B&B. It could have been easily done. ABC deserves to pay a heavy price for Frons stupid move and the dumb ABC executives that listened to him. Log in to Reply samanthadelayed August 3, 2012 The ghost of OLTL says BOO!! Get outta our time slot you stupid talk shows!!! Log in to Reply pumpkin August 3, 2012 Agree gl killed within. Daisy/Grady/Ashly anyone? who cares. Could have been strategy of no money. Bottomline, it was killed. atwts could have been saved by cbs. Agree Cannot stand Lara Spencer and co host. Can’t decide who annoys me more, Lara S or Kelly R. Can’t watch either. Seems like abc likes annoying blondes. I am saying annoying to avoid sounding like bully. Can’t wait for GH to switch actually. I will watch GH and then move to Dr Oz at 3:00. I think the dumbest thing abc ever did was cancel oltl. It would have been #2 now because it was closer to some of the cancelled soaps than GH. I like GH now but I could not see myself tuning in everyday for Sonny/Jason. GAA us terrible. Log in to Reply soapjunkie88 August 3, 2012 It’s sad that the damage is done. That they canceled two iconic soap operas to make this disaster happening. I just hope they do right by “GH” and keeping it on the air. Guess since “GAA” is not an option anymore it’s more likely. Log in to Reply liason4real August 3, 2012 Sigh. OLTL was the better soap and should still be on the air. Log in to Reply TV Gord August 3, 2012 It’s just not a good show and the hosts are pretty awful. More than once, I’ve noticed them ask a guest a question, and then clearly not listen to the answer, because they go ahead and ask another question that shows they weren’t paying attention. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. Log in to Reply susanmz August 3, 2012 Brian Frons and Anne Sweeney are idiots. I’m glad GAA is yet another rotten egg. Bring back my Agnes shows! Log in to Reply Mets82 August 3, 2012 Should have never gotten rid of AMC or OLTL in the first place. If there is an audience and thats a big if, for The Chew and GAA, then ship it to one of there sister stations. The only time I watch The Chew is if theres nothing else on. I mean you look at 2pm. You got The Talk, GAA and whatever shows air on the NBC affiliates. What kind of lineup is that considering 2 of those 3 shows are essentially the same thing? The Talk and GAA talk about the same topics(Tom/Katie, Robert/Kristen etc.) I did think that The Chew was holding steady in the ratings. I guess not. Log in to Reply MsAgentProvocateur1 August 3, 2012 Geesh, 2/3 failed/failing shows in the course of a year?? It would’ve taken less effort to just put OLTL/AMC on a prime time soap rotation– use a little imagination to improve what they had. This ‘cheap’ alternative to daytime drama is turning out to be not so cheap. As for CBS– I’ve never had an interest in the Talk and have no interest in watching (don’t care how much they pretend to promote the remaining soaps). I only wish CBS soap fans had the discipline to hold out and not watch the way ABC fans have in trying to save their soaps. There, I’ve said it and I’m bracing myself for the Talk defenders. Log in to Reply TV Gord August 3, 2012 I was surprised at how much Jeanne Cooper fell all over herself to compliment the ladies of The Talk yesterday! She practically crowned them the new queens of daytime! I was wondering if anyone else from here would have noticed that. Log in to Reply stefanstavros August 3, 2012 I can’t stand Josh Elliott! He is sooooo annoying and comes across as entitled and so stuck on himself..TV Gord I did see Jeanne gush all over the Talk ladies….I thought it was very strange and out of left field. Was she told to do that to help the credibility/likeability of the show? Log in to Reply TV Gord August 3, 2012 I don’t think anyone tells Jeanne Cooper what to do, do you, stefan? I’m not gonna tell her what to do, are YOU gonna tell her what to do? I’m not gonna tell her what to do. Log in to Reply stefanstavros August 3, 2012 LOL point taken, but it seemed so weird…Anyway I guess we’ll never know Log in to Reply SoapSnob August 4, 2012 I LOVE Josh Elliott and Lara Spencer… on Good Morning America. But Good Afternoon America is very ill-conceived and just thrown together. However, I can understand GMA wanting to expand their brand in much the same way the Today show has with FOUR (excessive) hours in a row. GAA is fairly harmless and should not dilute the GMA brand while, at the same time, serving as a stop gap between The Revolution and Katie. But I would not be surprised if it returned – revamped – when GMA has a stronger hold on their ratings surge over the Today show. Log in to Reply TV Gord August 4, 2012 I agree. It seemed way too out of character for her. Log in to Reply Edna Barefoot August 4, 2012 Sweeney thought her interview would fix things. Guess what Sweeney? We fans are not that easy to persuade. By now she should know we won’t be TRAINED. We know she worked with Frons to destroy our OLTL & AMC. Has she not LEARNED anything yet. ABC needs to be TRAINED to respect the viewers. We have kept them in business all these years & now we are hoping you lose everything. All they have to do is admit their mistake & put OLTL back on. Boycott remaines. Log in to Reply nmelman August 4, 2012 When is all of this going to stop. The people have made it quite clear to ABC that we don’t want more talk, news, or reality. We want our soaps. ABC does not care that they have lost millions of viewers. For that I really do not understand why they obviously have no taste is what they put on the air. Primetime is now getting a night of the Chew. No one cares about their food show when we can watch the food network. It just keeps getting worse because ABC is now the worst network in history. They have very little viewers and their programs are below par. Wake up executive idiots. You are paid an extremely high salary. Earn your money, do something that people will like. Stop telling us what we want and listen with your ears. Log in to Reply brettyboy August 4, 2012 Yipee, more bad ratings for GAA. I just hope Katie Couric’s ratings are as pitiful!
