Wishful Casting: Hollywood Heights' Robert Adamson as Noah Newman on The Young and the Restless

Kevin G. Schmidt has all but revealed The Young and the Restless is recasting his role yet again. While I hate to see anyone lose a gig, I can't help but think about all the possibilities an edgier Noah Newman would provide the series.

I think new Y&R executive producer Jill Farren Phelps should look no further than the cast of her fun, limited-run, Nick-at-Nite sudser Hollywood Heights to fill the role of the Newman heir. While the younger-skewing Hollywood Heights boasts several talented, hunky, young guys who would potentially fit well in Genoa City, my money is on Robert Adamson.

Adamson plays sexy, rule-breaker Phil Sanders on the English-language telenovela. In case the above pictures don't illustrate the point well enough, Adamson could almost be a younger doppelganger for Joshua Morrow, who plays Noah's dad Nick Newman on Y&R.

Imagine Adamson's version of Noah clashing with his dad — who decides it's time Noah gave up his musical pipe dreams and came to work for Newman Enterprises. Meanwhile, a rebellious Noah turns to his Uncle Adam (Michael Muhney) for the funds to keep his and Devon's (Bryton James) desires of becoming the next Timberlake and Timbaland a reality.

Even better, while newly-employed at Newman Enterprises, Noah is assigned to a project promoting an exclusive cosmetics tie-in with Fenmore's. While working closely with the upscale chain's CEO, Lauren Fenmore (Tracey Bregman), he develops a thing for her!

Weeks of steamy flirtation and inappropriate fantasies explode into a secret, erotically-charged, May/December affair between a neglected Lauren and Noah — setting Genoa City ablaze! Maybe Lauren's teenage son, Fen could be the one to walk in on Noah, a guy not much older than him, nailing his mother on her desk? Heck, for good measure, why not have Fen crushing on Noah at the time? How will the lad ever be able to forgive his mother for screwing around on his dad, with the man of his adolescent dreams?

This kind of raunchy, classically sudsy arc would also provide Bregman and Christian LeBlanc (Michael) their first juicy storyline in years. Finding out Lauren is cheating on him could take Michael back to the brink of insanity, causing him to use his newfound power as district attorney to go after his old friend Victor's (Eric Braeden) grandson.

Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Sharon (Sharon Case) would potentially find their first stretch of common ground since Cassie died, due to their mutual disgust at Lauren and Noah's antics. Of course, Noah would have to point out to his ex-stripper granny and klepto tramp mother that neither is in a good place to throw stones (or perfume bottles) at Lauren. Noah's shameless hound of a grandfather, Victor would likely chuckle and present the boy with a box of Cuban cigars when he finds out about the affair.

Y&R is solid when it comes to representing the next generation of Abbotts, thanks to Marcy Rylan (Abby) and Blake Hood (Kyle), but the serial needs a sexy-as-hell badass to take the Newman dynasty into the next generation. I think Adamson is the right man for the job!

I hope JFP is making the call right now!!!! He'd be perfect and could be an awesome younger lead. Smile

I love your wishful castings Jamey. I hope this becomes the second TJ Ashford casting. Wink

I like the whole idea of Noah and Lauren getting it on. Hot, hot, hot. Lauren needs to be freed from Michael. Infact, I'd like to see Michael back again as a troublemaker.

Hmm. At first glance, I wasn't quite feeling the recast based on a side-by-side review but in the course of reading your pitch, Jamey...I have to say...You kind of sold me on this!
I think that May/December, in particular, really harkens back to what Y&R used to do so darn well in its heyday and it would also take Lauren back to her roots as an insatiable bad girl.

Y&R are you listening? Make sure you collect a fee on this one, Jamey. I've really stopped casting a creative eye on this show but it's great to see that someone's got his eyes open on this.

Y&R does NOT need a new Noah.

Kevin Schmidt was more than fine in the role.

However, I do like the idea of Lauren having a May/December -romance with a young man. She certainly has the chops/ past/ looks to do it! Lol.

Besides, wth happened to the planned storyline of Avery & Michael having an affair and thus causing problems to Lauren & Michael??

So now are we to assume the rumored "Noah is queer" SL was just that, a rumor? Or did the new PTB change MAB's plans for him? Y&R needs a gay story...

The storyline was changed before MAB was gone.

Thanks SJ88, I hadn't heard that....was it pressure from CBS or Sony or did MAB just chicken out?

He's adorable! If they don't want him for Noah, he'd make a great Phillip Chancellor the IV re-cast. I see lot's of Jill & the tall, dark, and handsome Phillip II in him, he be the perfect Chancellor grandson.

KS was wonderful as Noah the child, he may be fine as Noah the adult but he's not excellent. Noah is a major legacy character, he should be dynamic & be able to grow into leading the show like John Ross on the new Dallas.

If this is what the new regime is doing I'm impressed. First I hear they are talking to Jess Walton about returning in October, which firms up the old guard, completes Kay, & brings back the history, and original core of Bill Bell's Y&R. On the other end they appear to be strengthening the younger legacy cast so they can grow into taking the lead when the time comes.

MAB had it backwards she was hiring weak new young players and spending her time and money, hiring and writing for older vets from other shows to take the place of the ones her long time core audience followed for decades.

Oh it was either one of them. Sony or CBS. Last thing I heard that they were planning on writing a gay storyline with Fen instead. Don't know if that's still the case with the regime change.

And yeah, Y&R needs a new Noah. He is supposed to be the older brother of Summer. They look like they are the same age. Not to mention that I never pictured Noah dating Eden since Jessica Heap took over the role. Kevin Schmidt doesn't fit anymore.

Besides that Robert Adamson seems perfect for the role.

Noah is Sharon & Nicks Son, born before Phick. So Summer is about 8 yrs younger. Not that that really matters on soaps. Just clearing that up.

What I would like to see is Laurens son Scotty return! He should be in his early 30's. Any ideas for casting? I see him with Abby, Chloe. or Heather.

@ldylkng: Of course Noah is older. Sorry, I guess I wrote too fast and messed it up in my head.

I don't know if I would bring back Scotty right now. But I think someone like Darin Brooks or maybe even Jason Cook would fit.

I don't see why KS couldn't have grown into a leading role. Not every leading man has to fit a certain mold, be dark-haired and muscle-bound and the ladies man. It is 2012, not 1992. Y&R has already tried that by casting Blake Hood as Kyle Abbott and it has flopped with viewers - nobody is that interested in him.

I wanted Noah to play out the gay storyline and I think KS would have done a convincing and realistic job with it. It bothers me that the storyline got scrapped because it is Noah Newman, but that it is okay for Fen Baldwin to be gay. That is a horrible double standard on Sony's part.

This kid is terrible on HH and I don't buy him as this big time thief at all. I gave up on that show after a few eps. Him and his annoying girlfriend were patheticly bad.

In my mind, MAB messed it up with her SORASing Summer.

And I'm happy that MAB wasn't allowed to do any gay storyline. With her writing that would have been terrible.

Well that's certainly true...

It tells a lot about the state of a soap when you wish for storylines to NOT happen, in the fear that they will only be horribly botched. Lol.

I like the Darin Brooks Idea, not so much Jason Cook. What about Scott Baily?
Probably not gonna happen, but I would like to see Lauren in storyline again. Just not as a cougar.

Well if Lesley-Anne Down worked as a TV mom for Jack Wagner for nine years, I guess Tracey Bregman could have Scott Baily as a TV son.
But yeah, it's not going to happen. Besides, the new regime has to figure out what they do with the cast they already have. A lot of work needs to done.

I don't even wonder that they start with Noah. As I heard, they want to start with rescuing the character of Sharon Newman. Bringing on Noah for it seems like a logical step.

SJ88, agree, Saving the character of Sharon is going to take some work. Something happening to Noah and her realizing there is more to life than her romantic life, would go along way imo to bringing back the original Sharon. It might also wake duh duh Nick up to the fact that he has a head on the top of his head too!

Saving the character of Sharon is as simple as this; a brain tumor!!!!

I wonder if the old Douglas Marland adage about not firing anyone for the first 6 months would be a good idea (or not) in this situation?

I do believe that this SILLY SORASing is what led to this odd quandary with the Noah and Abby age... weirdness.

If it's true about a Lauren/Noah fling I think it would actually be more interesting with the current Noah rather than with a recast. Some of you are appalled that KS believes he IS Noah; but he actually is. A recast would not be the same character at all.

pennywise555.... I assume you like the new Dallas. I know I thought I'd just check out the first episode and forget it. But I was drawn in and really enjoy it and the characters a lot. It's classic trash and riveting ... something sort of in a daytime way we were used to here.

For things like this soaps are a bad productions without a good status. They don't think about a global produccion but at the moment. They do a rescast even for a couple of days, a SORAS or rewrite the story of a character without problems...Live now and reinvent de past, don't worry, the audience of soaps are fast-food people...

Common now, he is Noah!?!?!? The boy appears every other six months for 2 days. The only thing that Kevin Schmidt had to do was to approve/disapprove of his mother's love life. And long before that was this relationship with Eden. That's it! We've seen practically nothing of this character. I have nothing against the actor. I think he did a good job. But he's far from irreplaceable. Brad Bell over at B&B wants to recast his male lead of 25 years. LOL

And I'm sorry but Kevin's Noah and Lauren!? People would call the cops on her.

Kevin Schmidt seems like a nice guy, but he's sorely lacking in edge as an actor. If he has more layers, I haven't seen them. So I can totally understand why a recast would seem to make sense. I have never watched this show and have no idea who this guy is, but if he gets Jamey's recommendation, that's good enough for me.

But he can't be TOO good of an actor, otherwise he might start making Josh Morrow look bad. Laughing out loud Laughing out loud (Feel free to interpret that anyway you want to, folks.!)

Kyle Schmidt was a good teenage Noah. But I'm on board with what Jamey said in the last podcast - we need a strong young man in this role who can sell sex with either man or woman. This is Nick and Sharon's son for crying out loud. And he needs to be able to sell rebellion, because Nick and Sharon didn't have to go through all that with Cassie, they touched on it in the months leading up to her death, but never went there fully!

I think it's too bad that CBS didnt allow this Kevin Schmidt to have a gay storyline. Schmidt seems really hurt about that, and the whole Noah is gone again thing. In this day and age, having a gay s/l would be no big deal, and Schmidt could have 'knocked the ball out of the park'.
