HomeTVCBSCrystal Chappell Defends Ex-DAYS Co-Star Melissa Reeves: “The Person We Know and Love…is NOT a Bigot” Jillian Bowe August 16, 2012 CBS, Days of Our Lives, NBC, News, Soap Opera, The Young and The Restless, Venice 69 Comments Gay advocate Crystal Chappell has come out to defend her former Days Of Our Lives co-star Melissa Reeves, following Reeves' controversial Twitter support of Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day. In a blog post entitled, "Missy", Chappell shared what happened when she contacted mutual gay and married friends of Reeves. Here's an excerpt: I reached out to our gay and married friends. Missy had called them in tears soon after the shit hit the fan. She told them how much she loved them and that the implication of that tweet was not what she intended. She said she saw half a tweet about Cluck Filet and thought she was supporting Free Speech. Nothing more. I thought…OK. Um….twitter fuck up? I've stepped into twitter convoys without really knowing what was being talked about and made a mess for myself unintentionally. Realizing after I stepped into it that I don’t at all support the person's words I stood up for. OK….it happens. And then I asked our gay and married friends…well, why not just say that to the folks in twitter land? Was someone telling her not to? Is it work related? Ostrich in the sand syndrome? If I don’t see it, it doesn’t exist kind of thing? Blonde moment? The more time went by the more frustrated I and my friends became. It started to hurt. We all know Missy has very strong religious beliefs but the person we know and love….is NOT a bigot. Really? Reeves "thought she was supporting Free Speech. Nothing More"? So Reeves wasn't at all aware that Chick-fil-A is at the center of a heated, national gay rights debate, or that the reason Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day even existed was to support COO Dan Cathy, following his declaration in the press of support for "traditional marriage"? Sorry, but I cry foul with this explanation. To read the rest of Chappell's defense of Reeves, click here. 69 Responses ChristianDavis148 August 16, 2012 I have to agree with you here Jillian. I don’t know what CC was thinking defending MR. Sorry, but I’m gonna call a spade a spade. MR knew darn well what she was doing and she’s only now backpedaling so as to not offend those at work and her fans as well. Sorry MR, if it walks like a bigot, talks like a bigot, it’s a bigot. She also expresses her anger, her not wanting to comment until she personally spoke with Melissa, and she implored MR to please make a statement because the fans and her friends deserve it. Please, everyone, read the full blog before you go off on Chappell. Log in to Reply anothercc August 16, 2012
I encourage everyone to read the FULL blog. As I told Crystal, when Missy started blocking people who tried to educate her and also never clarified her statement, people had no choice but to come to their own conclusions. Missy needs to speak up (apologizing goes a LONG way) before it spirals any worse for her, and she needs to do it in an interview since most people can’t read her twitter anymore. I will say this: I had been tweeting Missy for years with videos I had made of Carly & Jennifer (some of which were quite lesbian-yay video tape editing), and she even commented on them in an interview with DaysTalk with a smile on her face. She thought it was wonderful and creative that I thought her character was a lesbian. When I met Missy in person, I made it abundantly clear that I was a lesbian & that I was the one who made all those videos. I handed her a picture of Carly & Jennifer to sign & she smiled and said how she would love to be in a web series with Crystal. She didn’t seem uncomfortable in the slightest. Now, suddenly, she tweets about chicken, and blocks me (along with everyone else) who tries to explain to her that it’s about the money, not the words. Something is off. Is it possible that her husband was the one who engineered this? He did tweet how “proud he was” of his wife. Maybe she blocked us because she didn’t want to think about the repercussions of what she had to say? Maybe she was under a great deal of pressure from her husband and her church? I want to believe Crystal, that it was just a twitter screwup, but honestly, if Missy thinks it will just blow over without her clarifying/apologizing, she doesn’t know the LGBT community as well as she thinks she does. Log in to Reply alstonboy4315 August 16, 2012 Those who support hatred support bigotry. End of story. That’s like saying that Adolf Hilter was just exercising freedom of speech by having so many Jews killed. Or that the Klu Klux Klan have just been exercising freedom of speech over the past three centuries. I don’t blame Crystal Chappell for trying to defend her friend, but some foolishness just can’t be explained away. Missy “Chicken Little” Reeves might not be as outspoken as someone like Kirk Cameron or Jimmy “JJ” Walker, but something about her just rubs me the wrong way. She’s nothing but an adulterous homophobe. And after she made her statements, she made NO attempt to apologize or even clarify what she was talking about, which made me believe that she’s perfectly content with her choice to kick gay folks in the balls by supporting this establishment! Oh well, screw her. Scott better watch out because she’s got loose loins! It’s only a matter of time before she cheats on him again with another co-star. Just because you CLAIM to be Christian, that doesn’t mean that you are righteous or that you are going to heaven. Her judgment day is coming! 0:) Log in to Reply jthawk August 16, 2012 Love you Crystal Chappell – But this is one hot mess you should have steered clear of! Here’s the thing with CC’s blog post…It’s not Crystal’s place to explain what Melissa Reeves did. It’s Melissa’s place to do that. Also, this “She Didn’t Know What the Conversary Was About” defense, 1) I’m not buying it. It was everywhere in the media! and 2) Just because we have freedom of speech, does not mean you need to exercise it just so you can hear your own voice or watch you lip move! Educate yourself before you take to Twitter! Melissa Reeves, I firmly believe knew exactly what this was all about and she let her true colors and true opinion shine through. I completely agree with you! Log in to Reply hey mon August 16, 2012 Litmus test, once again, is being forced on us people, the word ‘hatred’ is being thrown around too much, and so is the word ‘homophobe’. Melissa Reeves has the right to talk about herself and her remarks in the way that she sees fit. I think she is coming across as stupid and idiotic, and shows she cant defend her position on ‘gay marriage’. Her saying that it is ONLY about ‘free speech’ is ludicrous, and shows she is just running ‘scared’, and that she may have caused a backlash among her gay fans. I know Im not a homophobe. In fact, when it comes to men who can type fast, answer the phone, and keep the office as neat as a d@mn pin, I will hire a gay man every time. Our guy secretary can bake, remodel the office, and can run my schedule perfectly, without bi+ching. He is a great guy. Now try asking a female to do all that. Most importantly, he keeps up on all of these sites for me. But let’s face it, he has no desire to get ‘married’, and Im not even sure if him and I have the same definition of marriage. Marriage is a committment to one person only (without constantly fantasizing about someone else, which means no porn), to adopt or have kids, till death parts you. So when he and I talk about ‘gay marriage’, he doesnt want one, but just wants the concept bacuse he thinks its a civil right. So to me, civil unions for him is the way to go, if he should ever feel close to some of the guys he hangs with. So, before anyone calls for Melissa Reeves to be fired, which would wound DAYS, let’s ease on up on her. (The funny thing is, he’s reading this as I type it). Log in to Reply GaryJr August 16, 2012 And after she made her statements, she made NO attempt to apologize or even clarify what she was talking about, which made me believe that she’s perfectly content with her choice to kick gay folks in the balls by supporting this establishment! This sums up my feelings perfectly. If she isn’t homophobic she has an obligation to step forward and explain herself. Otherwise, she’s leading the majority to believe it’s okay to bash gay kids and send gay people to their deathes (Chick-Fil-A’s CEO has made donations to organizations that are lobbying to do just that in other countries). If Missy doesn’t step up she’ll have the blood of more suicidal teens on her hands, who are bullied by scumbags who are empowered to be homophobic when public leaders, politicians, their religion and their heroes in Hollywood and in the sports world make it acceptable to do so. Log in to Reply michaels August 16, 2012 Missy shouldn’t have to defend or justify anything. It is a free country and just as it is her right to speak, it is also her right not to speak. Fortunately, we all share that right as Americans. Furthermore, she is entitled to have an opinion that differs from one that is more popular or politically correct. Frankly, some of the comments that are posted are more hateful towards Missy than that which she’s being accused. If you really think she was intending to offend, two wrongs don’t make a right. Log in to Reply Spins Vixenella August 16, 2012 I’m sorry, but I don’t buy Crystal Chappell’s defense of Missy, and yes, I think it was a defense. Is Crystal really trying to imply Missy just stumbled into this debacle? What are the odds Melissa Reeves just happened into a Chick-Fil-Hate on National Chick-Fil-A APPRECIATION Day which was a right-wing construct to defend the bigotry spouted by Chick-Fil-A’s COO? What are the odds Missy would have mentioned FREE SPEECH in her tweet when everyone who knows anything about this mess knows the “Free Speech” argument was the ruse right-winger Mike Huckabee constructed to deflect from the real underlying issue of Chick-Fil-A funding hate groups? It is not like Missy was just out randomly munching chicken nuggets & tweeting about their tastiness on any other day of the year. This was Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day, and every right-winger in the country was wrapping their lips around some chicken that day & posting their pictures doing so all over social media. Even if if I were so dense as to believe Missy knew nothing of the controversy & was innocently enjoying some chicken, why on earth would she have mentioned “Free Speech” in her Tweet? Many people tweet what they are eating, but how many of them invoke a Constitutional Amendment in their “food tweets”? Obviously I support Crystal’s right to Free Speech and to senselessly put her own reputation on the line by flinging herself headlong into this controversy, but I don’t buy what Crystal is saying, and I am exercising MY Free Speech to express that. And, unlike Crystal, I think Melissa has already spoken out…volumes in fact, by permitting that Tweet to remain in her timeline, blocking people who non-threateningly disagreed with her, and by refusing to apologize to those who were hurt by her “Free Speech” chicken-loving Tweet. Log in to Reply bishbay August 16, 2012 hey mon, I’m troubled by your post. The weird slam at women (women can’t organize an office? Really?) while you fetishize/feminize your gay employee gave me the chills, even though I think you think you’re saying something complimentary. You go on to say that unless people have the same definition of marriage as you do, they shouldn’t use the word. I’ll remind you that plenty of straight people have open marriages and choose not to pursue parenthood. Good luck to your employee, who undoubtedly smiles through gritted teeth at your “appreciation” of him. Missy made that tweet public & she apologized to friends *in private*. An apology, preferably to the Advocate, is what many people are hoping for. A few would still be bitter, but the vast majority would accept that she’s learned from her mistakes. Crystal’s comments definitely helped, but Missy really needs to speak for herself. heymon: Hi. I would love to be married to one woman for the rest of my life, have children with her (via adoption or a sperm bank), and be able to publicly show how much I love her. My religion would even have no problem with the marriage (Crazy thought: not everyone is Christian). Sadly, the state is dragging their feet despite the 14th amendment, “all men are created equal.” But marriage is NOT the issue here. The issue is $5 million dollars of a corporations funds (not his personal funds) between the years of 2003 to 2010 to hate groups that have encouraged “gay reparative therapy” to “make gay people straight”, advocated for the “Kill the Gays” bill in Uganda, and attempting to criminalize homosexuality. I dont think that the Family Council wants gays to die, either, although I dont really know their agenda. They seem to be anti-Catholic, so I stay clear of them. I also dont think that someone should go into their offics, an shoot them. You see how bad the verbiage can get, when the word ‘hate’ is thrown around? …and talkng about my guy secretary, I wasn’t tring to be anti-female secretary. In fact, I apologize. There are female secretaries that do alot of duties, and then some, and I give them kudos. I guess I may have to come down on gay marriage as being right, cause I cant see any reason why two lesbians shouldnt be able to get married. But I do think that people have the right to disagree with me, and I dont thik they should be labeled. Having said that, being gay is not a civil right. It is not based on skin color or ethnicity, but behavior. So therefore, for example, allowing gay Boy scout leaders would be a definite NO. Hey, but at least Im coming along on homosexual marriage. Log in to Reply jthawk August 16, 2012 I don’t believe that Melissa Reeves has apologized for anything that she said: either apologzing for what she tweeted or apologized for being so utterly clueless about what she tweeted. She did however block a great number of people who called her out on it and now Crystal Chappell has “apologized” for her and said she’s stayed silent. Back to the blocking people on Twitter – if MR didn’t know what was going on with Chick-Fil-A (let’s go with it for a second) why automatically block people from her Twitter. Why not be adult about the sitaution and question, “What are you people talking about? I just like chicken…oh he doesn’t like gays…oh my bad!” Log in to Reply giftofamber August 16, 2012 heymon: Progress is progress. I am glad to see you are willing to think about your views. Melissa Reeves is closing her twitter account, but in doing so, she admits that she disagrees with all of us (who have been telling her about the reasons for the boycott). Thank you to a twitter follower who was not blocked to RT this:
“Due to all of the inappropriate comments and threats to me and my family, I regret to say that I will be shutting down this Twitter account. I don’t feel that it is God-honoring to spend this much time fighting over things that we disagree on. The internet can be a great thing, but it can also be very destructive in the sense that you cannot truly learn the heart of a person in just a few words. I appreciate and love you all and thank you for your support over the years and will be praying for you. “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” Mark 12:30 “–Melissa Reeves
It is so sad that all of this would have been prevented by a simple apology and deleting the tweet (assuming she is not bigoted like Crystal says). Missy *desperately* needs to do an interview with the Advocate. I do not agree with the threats or the inappropriate comments, however, she has to understand that there were a LOT of very hurt people reacting to her statements. Malcolm X only believe in the ability for black people to access their 2nd amendment rights to carry a gun, to protect themselves from the KKK when they came trying to lynch them. So he didn’t advocate violence. That was the wrong comparison. No problems though. A better comparison would be between Black Liberationist vs the Black Christian’s ideas on how to seek equality. Which means the death and physical threats against Missy should be taken seriously. It also means that people need to check their emotions before going all half-cocked acting on feeling and not intelligence. #2: It was to see how quickly someone would respond the way you did. Log in to Reply Y2Jin99 August 16, 2012
You people are fucking nuts comparing MR to Hitler. She has not called for all gays to be put in a gas chamber. Who cares if she doesn’t believe in gay marriage? Get over it. I am sorry but she doesn’t deserve this nonsense. SIck of hearing about this shit. And no I am not anti gay. I just don’t care. To each his own. But if someone doesn’t believe in what gay people preach the rest of the gay community attack with venom. zzzzzzzzz Keep preaching from your soapbox. Where did I say I don’t care if gays are killed? You are embellishing something that I didn’t even say. I said I don’t buy that Melissa or Chick Fil A have supported wanting gays to be executed. You are being outlandish turning the non support of gay marriage into something much more despicable. Like someone said to you earlier where is your proof? Find me proof that they believe gays should be murdered otherwise shut up. I don’t know why I’m bothering to dialogue with you because you’re clearly unhinged with reality if you can’t see the connection between people like you who don’t care if gay people are killed, gassed, tied to fences, raped and beaten to death because you’re not gay & you’re not a very compassionate person. But as a humane person I do care when people support organizations that hurt other people whether they’re gay straight black green ugly or Greek. I guess that’s the difference between compassionate people like Deidre Hall and selfish “doesn’t affect me so why should I care” people like you.
Log in to Reply TV Gord August 16, 2012 I don’t know who Greg is, and I’m not going on a wild goose chase on google. If you can’t supply the link, so be it. I’m not from Toledo, but you still have to show me. I’m from Canada, where the Weekly World News used to make up stories and print them as real, saying they happened “in Canada”, and they were completely fabricated. I need proof before I believe accusations of murder. Anyway, regardless of what Chick-Fil-A has done, do you really think Reeves was well-versed in all of their practices before she tweeted in support of free speech? Don’t you see how out of control this has gotten? Even if she is opposed to gay marriage, it doesn’t mean she supports murder. This has just gotten so hysterical, I can’t believe all of the hate that I’m reading here. I don’t agree with those who oppose gay marriage, but I’m almost literally sickened by the vitriol I’m seeing on here from the side I DO support. You all make it hard to separate YOUR insanity from THEIRS! Examples of civil rights are freedom of speech, press, and assembly; the right to vote; freedom from involuntary servitude; and the right to equality in public places. Discrimination occurs when the civil rights of an individual are denied or interfered with because of their membership in a particular group or class. Various jurisdictions have enacted statutes to prevent discrimination based on a person’s race, sex, religion, age, previous condition of servitude, physical limitation, national origin, and in some instances sexual orientation. I know you don’t like to click things, but if you’d just type that addy into your address bar, then click on the tab that says “Fact Check”, the very first article is the one I was trying to link for you. The other was a HuffPost article that had the same info, but I thought the comments section was worth a look, too. I won’t bother with that one. I just want to say that I agree with you in that some people’s reactions have been way over the top and embarrassing, but when I compare the emotions of the people here, whose frustrations boiled over, with the vitriol and unbridled hate that comes out of places like The Blaze and Stormfront on a daily basis, I’ll take my “crazy” family over that any day. And one last thing to anybody really and not just you. Since the call for links and “proof” has been placed. Could I get a link to the threats that MR received on twitter? I know someone here in the original thread said they hoped she choked on her chicken sandwich and while it was in poor taste and uncalled for, I don’t consider it an actual threat to her or her family. Log in to Reply Bradamant August 17, 2012 To me the real story, two weeks later, has not much to do with Melissa Reeves’ ill-conceived tweet and subsequent silence, but with Crystal Chappell’s decision to say something on the subject and the manner in which she did it. From my point of view as someone who has kept up with her exploits (appropriately enough, a word closely linguistically related to exploitation) since the long-gone Otalia days, her being feted as some Great Gay Advocate fascinates me. Reading Chappell’s twitter exchanges last evening after the publication of this blog was highly entertaining. She appeared to be on quite the high from the triumph of her not-so-timely entrance into the fray. Would she have ever said anything had her lap-dog Nelson Branco – a person even more given to magnificent gaffes and pot-stirring than anyone else in this story – not dragged her into it? His own ill-worded tweets a week ago seemed to imply that CC and most others in the Soap world had failed to step up to the plate with a statement on the CFA debacle. CC reacted quite negatively. (He quickly bowed and scraped his way back out of the hole with a flailing assurance that he wasn’t talking about CC! No, no, no! CC IS gay rights. No, Mr. Branco, she is not. But I’m glad for your sake that CC added you back to those she follows. I’m sure you’re relieved.) In last night’s exchanges CC also agreed with those who said that MR should not have blocked those who were politely trying to point out why her tweet in support of CFA was, to say the least, problematic for so many of her fans. CC said she herself is the type to face her problems, not one to hide from them. Indeed? That is most interesting to read, since I am personally acquainted with many who, when they politely and concisely expressed why the representation of GLB folk on CC’s webseries Venice was problematic for them, were summarily blocked by CC. Let me see if I can list all the ways that CC has earned her mythical status as The Great Gay Advocate: She produced three seasons of a websoap where women makeout with other women. Check. She jumped on the bandwagon with the NOH8 photoshoot. Check. She produced a thankfully short-lived mini-webseries called “Straight Girls Guide to Gay Bars” wherein she could invade gay space and combine her favorite pastimes of gawking at the gays and swilling alcohol while learning about “the three types of lesbians.” (An evening that Hillary B. Smith enthused about by saying that she loves to hang out with the “Lesbos.”) Uh . . . check. She explicitly and venomously singled out former Otalia fans for blame when it came to sinking subscription numbers for Venice. Uh. . . hmm. She promised before Venice even started that, unlike GL’s mistake of making everything about Good Man Frank instead of Olivia and Natalia, that Venice would be a gift to the Otalia fans, that there would be no babies, and that the main character of her series, Gina, would be an out and proud lesbian who had known she was a lesbian “forever.” But . . . then she specifically wrote a part into Venice for Peter Reckell as not only Gina’s former boyfriend, but the father of a secret love child, and a guy quick enough on the uptake these decades later to finally _guess_ she is a lesbian when she was stammering and stuttering over trying to break the big news to him. He was so understanding, they shared a sweet kiss. *throws the checklist away* There is so much more to this story that those who have followed CC’s shenanigans could add, but it is really overkill at this point. I am amazed and appalled that not only is she continually wading into arguments (or “convoys”) on twitter that do not concern her, but that she can write a blog lacking all substance and then send out tweets that throw her “friend” MR under the bus and be hailed as clear-thinking and heroic. (Did she erase her tweets from last night yet insinuating that TPTB at Days and NBC might have a hand in keeping MR silent on the issue? For all of CC’s nattering on about “Onward, Upward, Forward” she does seem to have a problem letting go when it comes to Days. I ask if the tweets are still there, because, in addition to blocking and unfollowing/refollowing/unfollowing, she does have a tendency to erase some of her more deliciously idiotic tweets. More’s the pity. But then, the morning after does have that effect even on the most sober of us.) Well, this has been good. For CC. Not so much for MR or for anyone who desires serious discussion of the related issues, but the publicity is something that CC could not buy. As she readies to film yet another webseries with a cast of dozens, her remaining fans/defenders/personal bully squad are revved up to open their wallets yet again. It’s a fascinating experiment: how can CC get ever fewer people to support her badly written vanity projects? They buy shot glasses, panties, t-shirts, calendars and other merch; are sending gift cards for craft services; buy subscriptions; buy sponsorships; bid for walk-on parts for a butler and a maid who is “preferably of Spanish decent (sic),” and are waiting with bated breath for CC’s soon to be (self-?)published memoir. Surely there are even more lucrative ways to Advocate out there. She just hasn’t discovered them yet. Log in to Reply pjc722 August 17, 2012 Where is her public apology? Where is her twitter response?! She ran and hid once she discovered she hurt many people, many people who loved her not only as an actress but as a person. I am sorry, you may consider her not a bigot but I consider her an idiot moron who after making a IDIOTIC and MORONIC statement of support showed her true colors. Log in to Reply jezza August 17, 2012
She doesnt believe in gay marriage why is everyone giving her such a hard time
It’s called conversation, a dialogue. It’s what happens sometimes when people disagree (preferably without name-calling and death threats). Occasionally, it even leads to enlightenment. If you’d prefer that everybody just get along and discuss rainbows and unicorns, you are free to read something else. Log in to Reply jezza August 17, 2012 I have to say that I agree with the person who said that the headline of the DC post is misleading. (I believe the word used was “reactionary.”) After reading Crystal Chappell’s entire blog post, I wouldn’t say that CC defends Melissa Reeves as much as she tries to understand where MR may have been coming from without passing judgement one way or the other. CC is very clear in where she stands on both the Chick-fil-A issue and Melissa’s poor response to the controversy. In my opinion, her post is fair and balanced, though something of a stretch in parts. I respect that her own support of GLBT causes is unwavering. Hopefully, everyone will see that aspect of it. Log in to Reply Dariclone August 17, 2012 *sigh* I love Crystal Chappall but she probably should’ve stayed fare away from this fight. Log in to Reply Natalie5 August 18, 2012 I applause and give thanks to Crystal Chappell for having a mature rational response to this situation. we should all hope that we would have as true a friend willing to reach out and get clarification and understanding, to be willing to stand up and say that’s not who my friend is or what she believes. Crystal handled this situation with class, respect and dignity for all involved. While I do believe M.R should come forward and clear the air, we all have a duty as friends to stand up for one another and stand up for whats right. Well thought out dialog and communication will open eyes and hearts much faster than name calling and negative behavior. Kudos and much love and respect Mrs. Chappell! PalmGirl73 Log in to Reply Transfigurationjc August 18, 2012 Screw the liberals Melissa. This is America you and Dan Cathy have a right to free speech and to stand up for Biblical Christian values if you choose. No one is a bigot because they object to the practice of homosexuality or they dont support gay marriage on spiritual grounds. When are true Christians going to get the balls to stand up? This country has been deceived by the gay rights lobby and their censorship and social bullying tactics. Support our agenda or we will malign you. The recent shooting attempt at the Family Research Council shows that there is a cultural war going on in America and anti-Christian bias is at an all time high. It’s becoming as dangerous to be a true Bible believing Christian here as it has been in Communist Countries. That is indeed scary but Jesus has over come the world and I hate to tell those on the left, but you have already been defeated. SMH. Log in to Reply Transfigurationjc August 18, 2012 MikeTom its happening because the Gay Rights Lobby and the far political left have a strangle hold on this political discourse. Because society’s attitudes toward Homosexuality have relaxed considerably over the last 20 to 30 yrs, the gay rights lobby has pounced on this issue and they are determined to demonize anyone with conservative or dare I say Christian values or beliefs toward this topic. The far left want to label traditional values as hate speech. If anyone stands up and declares homosexuality a sin or unnatural then they are considered hatemongers, fascists, Nazis or Klansmen. Jamie Giddens oner of the contributing writers to this sight equated Melissa’s views with those of the Klu Klux Klan on his podcast! That’s outrageous. Since when did traditional family values get to the same level as cross burnings and murder? If this had happened in 1990 or before it wouldnt have caused all this ire. We all understand that this is a contentious, sensitive political issue. But as a trained journalist I was taught to be objective and I was also taught the values of free speech. When either side is successful in demonizing or stifling the free speech of the other side then this nation ceases to be America. We all have a right to our opinions. I was raised strictly Pentecostal Christian but as a teen I spoke openly against Jerry Fallwell and the radical right’s attempts to censor gay theme TV shows and to stifle the free expression of the political left on the gay issue. Bottomline is that in America everyone gets a say in the market place of ideas and in the end the people are free to choose what they believe.
