CONFIRMED: Susan Flannery to Exit The Bold and the Beautiful This Coming December!

The saga surrounding The Bold and the Beautiful powerhouse Susan Flannery's status at the soap opera has come to an end. TV Line is reporting the actress is indeed departing the show — as first reported by CBS Soaps In Depth.

According to the site, the actress merely signed a short-term contract extension. Flannery is reportedly set to vacate the role of fashion matriarch Stephanie Forrester this coming December, following a proper storyline send-off.

May you enjoy your retirement life Susan, wish you the best. So dearly sad that Stephanie will no longer be a part of my daily life. You will be missed La Forrester. There in none like you.

As much as Susan Flannery is an icon, I have heard she has wanted to retire for a long time. If they were going to recast, I could see Erika Sleazak in the role.

Man DC, I love you guys, but you always find the most unflattering pictures of actors!

That being said...without Stephanie, this is gonna be a different show altogether. She's tired and it's time for her to go, I understand, but those writers better be ready.

BTW I do not agree with a recast. Erika Slezak could do it and I am sure there are many other actors out there who could do it, but it would crash and burn before it even started. How many recast have been successful after the actor playing the part has been there for 23 years straight!?

I'm glad it was her choice and not the show's, and that B&B is going to take the time to write a proper farewell. Susan Flannery deserves it. Although I agree that Erika Slezak would do a wonderful job (she's Erika freaking Slezak after all), it wouldn't be right to recast Susan after all these years.

Beautiful hairdo. Looks like someone from Y a R is her stylist.

I don't think Susan Flannery cares what anyone thinks of her hair.It was her idea to stop wearing a wig on B&B,and gave us one of the best scenes every with Sally supposedly cutting her hair.

Good for her. She can enjoy retirement and do side projects like web shows like Venice. I could totally see Erika Slezak play Stephanie, but it should be many months or a year before Steph is recast.

I'm so very sad to see Susan Flannery leave the show but she's been doing Daytime since 1966 and we've heard time and again the pages and pages of dialogue they have to learn everyday. So, I respect her wanting to retire. I don't, however, believe they should get rid of the character of Stephanie Forrester--she's the cement that keeps the family together. The role should be recast. I think Bell should offer it to the person his father wrote and created Stephanie Douglas Forrester for but turned him down--Susan Seaforth Hayes. Julie hasn't had a storyline on Days of Our Lives in 20 years! This would be a meaty role for her. Seaforth Hayes is glamorous, beautiful, gorgeous and could certainly play the matriarch of a famous Fashion dynasty.

Take a look at this recent pic of Susan Seaforth Hayes and tell me should wouldn't be the PERFECT Stephanie Douglas Forrester!

I wish Flannery well in her long desired and deserved retirement from this side of the camera. May her work beyond that be felt for years to come.
I'm not sure if the show would be better served by (or is even truly capable of) passing the torch to the next generation and bump Brooke up to being the "grande dame" of the show or by doing a respectful recast.
Recasting Alexandra Spaulding comes to mind, if you can successfully pull THAT off...
Erika Slezak is a treasure and its a shame that she be offscreen if she wants to keep working (though she may be opposed to relocating/commuting to LA).

Ok folks. Even though she was born in Hollywood, Erika Slezak will NEVER relocate from NYC to LA, so let's just get over that now and put it out of our minds! Susan Seaforth Hayes is from California, was BORN there, and has lived in L.A. for most of her life!!!! She's the ONLY viable option IF they decide to recast--which is, of course, very much in the air!

Please do not recast. I like Susan Hayes(Lauren's mother on Y and R too right?) But please do not recast Flannery's Stephanie.

Sad( Say it ain't so, Susan! Such a beautiful, professional and entertaining actress! She lights up the screen whenever she has a scene and she is completely irreplaceable. If this is indeed what she wants for her life now, then nobody deserves it more. But if there is some sort of ageism behind the scenes or anything sleazy, shame on them all.

I mean how many more hours and weeks and months can they milk the stupid Liam-Hope-Steffy ridiculousness?

Susan, you are a gem, and daytime has been blessed with your grace. Can't imagine the show without you. Sad(

Exit storyline... Ronn Moss extends contract until the end of the year. Then on Christmas Eve Ridge drives with Stephanie in the front passenger seat along with Eric and Brooke in the back to Christmas Eve Mass. During the drive along PCH Stephanie suffers a heart attack- Ridge becomes distracted driving the car as he focuses on Stephanie with everyone panicked. He crosses the yellow line in front of a semi truck and then at the last minute swerves to miss the truck, causing the car to flip several times towards the brink of the cliff thru the guardrails and becomes wedged against several small trees at the cliff's edge over the break waves of the ocean below. Ridge and Stephanie are unconscious. Eric and Brooke are alert, and manage to get out. They first get Stephanie out, Eric tends to Stephanie as Brooke goes back to the car for Ridge who has regained consciousness... he's trapped in the car and can't get free. He holds Brooke's hand and says he loves her as the trees give way ripping Ridge out of Brooke's hand, the car plunges off the cliff bursting into flames as it crashes into the ocean below. As Eric and Brooke scream out. (Body is never recovered- Ridge presumed dead.) After Ridge's death, Stephanie regains consciousness seeing Eric and Brooke who is distaught... Stephanie asks for Ridge. Brooke without thinking says he is gone... this causes Stephanie to second a second heart attack and she dies in Eric arms. Future story is set up with Eric and Brooke reuniting in the despair of Ridge's and Stephanie's deaths... leading to an eventual wedding. Focus is placed on Brooke's obsession with Rick over Caroline/Amber and a new generation of Forrester feuding begins on a whole new level...

Like the scenario jbk..i was also thinking along the lines of a Brooke/Eric reunion but here's my idea: Stephanie dies of lung cancer and of course Ridge is already gone so he and Brooke are over. Eric is devastated by Stephanies death as is Brooke. Think about it, even though Stephanie and Brooke have just recently come to terms with and love each other, they have had YEARS of history (good and bad). Even though there has been alot of bad blood between them, Stephanie has been A HUGE part of Brooke's life for years so Stephanie dying would naturally have a HUGE impact on Brooke as well. Brooke has spent years trying to gain Stephanies love and approval and has been defined as never being ENOUGH in Stephanies eyes. To lose Stephanie just when they have gotten close, would be devastating. In the midst of Eric's heartbreak and Brooke's breakdown over Ridge and Stephanie, Eric and Brooke reunite. This could give major storyline potential for a long time to come. You would have nosy-ass Taylor butting in to stick up for the memory of her best friend Stephanie and team with Steffy to keep Brooke away from Eric, and on the other hand have Rick and Bridget in Brooke's corner, fighting for their parents to reunite. Major story for many characters. And I for one have always loved the connection between Eric and Brooke.
That said, I had to see Susan go.. such a great actress and DEFINITELY NO RECAST!

I don't watch the show, But, I know Susan has Fibromyalgia and know those of us with this invisible illness could benefit by the show using her illness in the exit storyline somehow. Raising awareness is so important. Maybe she needs to move to a differnet climate? Smile
