MM only spoke out about it because he is hating because he has been on the backburner. If it had surrounded Adam losing his eyesight for the umpteenth time then he would have been praising the show. Log in to Reply Yoryla October 3, 2012 DivaTude, exactly! No question about it. Log in to Reply MsAgentProvocateur1 October 3, 2012 I would have liked to see a 10,000 episode where perhaps Katherine Chancellor as well as John Abbott (posthumously) and possibly Victor Newman received some type of Lifetime Achievement Award from the Genoa City Chamber of Commerce or something. In the week building up to the episode, have all the speakers for each recipient prepare speeches paying homage but intersperse it with the existing storylines. Then when the time comes for the actual Award Ceremony, have a Black Tie Affair at the Colonnade Room, intersperse the speeches with Flashbacks either supporting or contradicting the testimonials that are being given at the Ceremony. It should’ve been a stand out, stand alone episode for the actual 10,000 episode where you actually get the once in a blue moon opportunity to get the characters from the town gathered in one place. Log in to Reply thecourt99 October 3, 2012 Yeah…i forgot about his sight. So Victor returns from the dead, what was it..3 times, in the last 30 years? How many times did Adam regain his sight in 3 years? Log in to Reply harlee490 October 3, 2012 Y&R was good today people! Phyllis being a Phyllis …a BULLY! I actually saw a glimmer of Phyllis Sommers in this scene, Phyllis picking fights with everyone! She wasn’t a heroine today. I loving these “run-ins” with Chris, Danny, Lauren and Nina. Nina found out today Phyllis slept with her son! Tomorrow’s preview will be GOOD!…Nina SLAPS Phyllis DOWN…I was screaming my TV with giddiness!  Log in to Reply Yoryla October 3, 2012 harlee, Really??? I delayed watching the eppy because I read the recaps and KNEW it was gonna be so boring – and it was WORSE than boring! Ugh. IMO this was the dullest episode in two weeks. I can’t believe this utterly ridiculous Paul storyline – when it is clear for everyone from the start that he didn’t so anything illegal – is still going on!?! Uggggh. RE: the new opening credits. I don’t get it, it was always clear that they weren’t doing a totally new opening. They were just about updating the pics. And that’s the way it should be. You KNOW if JFP were to totally re-do it, we would get a horrible, flashy, trashy, migraine-inducing Y&R opening. Log in to Reply bonobochick October 3, 2012 RE: Days I continue to disagree with Jamey that GT writes the Hernandezes better simply because he whitewashes their respective lying, law breaking (kidnapping for both plus murder for Gabi and covering up crimes) and has the town kiss their asses. Witness the destruction of Chad to turn Gabi into a heroine even though her plan is what got Jack killed. She’s never shown remorse and looks like will serve no jail time. Rafe is never called out on his flaws by anyone other than EJ, so all the other characters disregard what he says even though EJ isn’t wrong that Rafe is a lying judgmental ass. And THESE are the good guys I’m supposed to root for? Why? What is so compelling about them that I am supposed to be behind them for never I like that MarDar gave the Hernandez siblings flaws and had other characters call them on it rather than the rim job I see on my screen EVERY damn day with other Salemites sans EJ or Chad extoling their virtues. Ugh with that bullshit. And I also don’t like how GT is trying to make Rafe the new Bo. Rafe is not half the character that Bo is and GG ain’t half the actor PR is. This show wrote off the more enjoyable Hernandez siblings and left us with the dreck siblings. Log in to Reply noway October 3, 2012 10,000th episode Where the hell was Jill? The only character from day one. Katherine only there to prop up TGVN Paul MIA from that episode too. One big Moustache love fest……..GAG Log in to Reply Jamey Giddens October 3, 2012 that GT writes the Hernandezes better simply because he whitewashes their respective lying, law breaking (kidnapping for both plus murder for Gabi and covering up crimes) and has the town kiss their asses. *** When did I say any of this is why I feel he writes them better? LOL Log in to Reply pennywise555 October 3, 2012
Where the hell was Jill? The only character from day one.
Exactly, Jill’s name wasn’t even MENTIONED! How is it a tribute to Bill Bell to ignore the only original character he created, kept, and developed for decades? How petty of MAB. IMO the 10,000 episode was a tribute to herself (MAB) and her favorites. For me the episode will stand for Y&R’s lowest point. I hope the 40th anniversary will stand for the rebirth. It should reflect the key elements of what Bill Bell wanted it to be, and a celebration of what the viewers have enjoyed for decades. MAB’s obsession with the character resulted in him being overused. Now there really is nowhere for him to go but off the show. He has outlived his use as a villain. And no, I have no interest in seeing him go against Victor or a sibling AGAIN. It has been done to death. Adam is now a very stale character. Much like Victor, Sharon, Phyllis, and JackAbbot. Log in to Reply timepass October 3, 2012 I was looking forward to this podcast as I am home sick. Only thing disapointing was that not one of you guys thinks that Liz was written OOC. I respect your opinion, but I preferred a podcast were at least everyone is represented, it makes it more entertaining. i want to add just a couple of nuances about Liz, she was freaking 15 years old when she arrived in PC, so yes she was rebelious and maniputating, which teenager was not. We are talking about a 30something woman here, just not the same. Anyhoo, I know most of you are RC fans, so far I am really not impressed. JMO. Log in to Reply bonobochick October 3, 2012 Jamey, You didn’t say all that. I was saying I disagreed with you that he writes them better than MarDar did and then listed my reasons why I disagreed with you. I didn’t think my sentences ran on as if you said that about them but hope that clarifies. Log in to Reply Jamey Giddens October 3, 2012 Love Jamey’s imitation of Eric Braeden, LOL! *** I better stop, before he comes at me on Twitter! LOL Log in to Reply MsAgentProvocateur1 October 3, 2012 Haha, shame on you Luke– wanting to finish off nearly all the over 50 set on B&B. Hell yes, to Colleen Zenk coming on to play Margo Linley! She even has those eyes. I haven’t watched B&B in forever but I would certainly take a look-see if that were to happen. Log in to Reply david46208 October 3, 2012 @Jamey Giddens: On Days the Jennifer vs Nichole battle is one few things I really like so far. I think Melissa is doing some good work, because she is not caught in sitcom stories that have littered her life over the last 10 years. I was most interested in her scenes with Nicole and Dr. Daniels. It may be one of the few times I actually liked him. So she is making that story work. As for E.J/Sami/Rafe triangle it was the worst set-up I saw in story that EJ would blackmail Rafe with putting Gabi in Jail to have a chance with Whorami! Though the only silver lining I could see would be for it to start a new Dimera vs Dimera war for head of the empire. That is if the writers took that road. Another thing, from Abby to Gabi (notice the rhyming) they go from coo-coo puffs to heroine within a week. One week they are one step away from Saddy Pines and the next they laying across that lounge chair like a female character from the Great Gatsby waiting for a man to come and save them. How in God’s name is that possible? From a writing standpoint they make such a big to do about these characters descending into madness only to drop it. No real consequences or true exploration of the aftermath. James E. Rielly was like this (especially on Passions Jillian ;)) They could be raped one week and still plotting the next without ever having addressed the aftermath of the rape. In fact on Passions rape was written like a sport or like love triangles. It was considered comedy. The point I am trying to make here is that gaping holes in DOOL right now is that it all over the place, there is no real soapy flow to it and it is just hard to be invested in a series I no longer know what it is about. But I’m watching and that’s all I can say. Log in to Reply thecourt99 October 3, 2012 I am popping in and out while I am listening to the podcast. Regarding Liz being a schemer from day one – are all schemes equal? I think there is a difference between allowing someone to think their child is dead versus lying about sleeping with someone. Maybe that is just me. Also..again..Y&R…I think it is sad that the show focused on one character during an occasion when the show as a whole should have been celebrated. I think the blame for that should lie solely with MAB though. To argue against Liz being written OOC by referencing that she came to Port Charles as a rebellious teen 15 years ago (and only rebellious for about a year) to being a woman who would switch DNA results is OUT OF CONTROL! Liz was no Sami Brady-level schemer as a teen! Now, I agree that on soaps, “bad girls have more fun” but I don’t see Liz’s actions being based on being bad or threaded in a logical way. I would prefer Liz to be written in a worthwhile story versus being made another roadblock to the reunion of the heavily-propped, chemistry-free JaSam. I don’t think Steve Burton’s impending exit warranted Liz being made to look desperate. I was fine with her standing up and stating to Jason on his birthday that she wanted to be with him. He did not outright say “no, because I don’t love you”, rather he stated that it was “too dangerous for her and her children” to which she walked away and stated she had a “lot to think about.” I am a fan of Liason but I am bigger fan of Liz walking away of her self-respect. Log in to Reply liason4real October 3, 2012 Liz’s bratty teenage pranks at the age of 14/15 barely lasted six months fifteen years ago! RC admitted on twitter that the only reason he had Liz mess with the DNA test is because SBu was leaving the show. It’s too bad RC didn’t bother to show any respect for Liz/RH fans by allowing the character to simply walk out of the PH and not look back! Log in to Reply Restless Vixen October 4, 2012 Actually, Adam only fully lost his sight once – when Patty threw chemicals in his face. He faked losing his sight (Chris Engen Adam) when he was injecting something (Botox?) into his eyes while in jail for the forged diary but then found out he had the same condition Hope had – retinitis pigmentosa, which leads to eventual blindness. His sight was declining as he was losing more and more peripheral vision, but it was not completely gone. Then he went off had some experimental corneal implant surgery or something. Patty reversed that when she ran into Adam either before or after she shot Jack (it escapes me which). I’ll admit some of Adam’s blindness was messy, but I’m betting it’s because MAB&Co knew nothing about retinitis pigmentosa from the very beginning. All that being said, Adam’s blindless, partial blindness or restored vision never dominated entire episodes. Victor’s 20th presumed dead SL was the focus of a show milestone that should have celebrated the entirety of Y&R, not just one family or one character. Even if Victor’s death was the focal point for some kind of umbrella event, where were the flashbacks? Where was Jill Abbott – her DIL’s father and her own past business colleague died? And where was the drama? Almost no emotional beats were played as the audience knew he was not dead, we never even had the chance to wonder. The funeral was like the day after he was declared dead. We had Billy Abbott teleporting from Wisconsin to LA and back. The SL was very hamhandedly slapped together, piecing together recycled plots like MAB has been known to do. As a long time viewer, I was very disappointed with an episode that should have been a flagship of this soap Can’t wait to hear this podcast…just firing it up now Log in to Reply GLTURNS70 October 4, 2012 Didn’t Liz lie to Lucky about Jake’s paternity? and that was Fairly recent? Liz is not a pillar of honesty. GH fans are almost, repeat almost as bad as B&B fans. Log in to Reply tedew October 4, 2012 Actually episode 10000 was one big crock. That episode should have dispensed with all current stories save one for the day and have done some sort of self congratulatory show. Brought back all they could to celebrate something. Instead of the garbage they gave us, it could have been for a proper Victor premature funeral. All his pals and foes (including ghosts) could have attended to grieve, to celebrate or simply revel with joy. Then Victor could have beamed in to everyone’s joy or chagrin. Log in to Reply soapjunkie88 October 4, 2012 WTF!? Kill off Eric Forrester??? :O With Ronn Moss and soon Susan Flannery gone, he and Katherine Kelly Lang are the only two remaining original cast members. B&B has to keep at least them on the show after they couldn’t manage with Flannery and Moss. Otherwise this younger generation would be the show’s only generation. What a terrible idea that would be. Before putting Eric with Donna again – which really would be horrible – I’d rather see a Eric/Brooke reunion if Ridge is presumed dead after all. But I also like Jamey’s idea with Colleen Zenk coming on as Margo. There are many possibilities but you certainly don’t kill off Eric Forrester to the day John McCook wants forever walk away from this show- DAYS is giving me the creeps. I try to watch because Eileen Davidson’s first air date finally is about to arrive but the writers make it really hard to stay invested. For me it makes no difference who writes the Hernandez family. The only one I liked was already killed off. I wish they would do the same to Gabi and Rafe. He and Daniel – for whatever reason – are eating this show. Rafe’s hypocrisy gets on my last nerve… Enough with this! Y&R and it’s little behind-the-scenes wars are just beyond pathetic. All are supposed to be grown ups but behaving like little children. I never saw a television show where so many egomaniacs work on. DYNASTY used to be really bad when it came to this in the 80s but Joan Collins was behaving like a mature woman compared to these tragic figures. Back when Y&R was this big and shining star in the soap world, every actor who came on was honored to work with such professional actors and having amazing scripts. Well all this is gone by now. I’m only glad the William J. Bell isn’t alive anymore. He would be so ashamed. Log in to Reply pferrando October 4, 2012 IMO the behind the scenes crap you talk about actually started to happen when LML and Bloom were in charge and a lot of the heart and soul of the show became disengaged with her nonsense. I think a lot of the cast was relieved when a “Bell” took back over, but she clearly wasn’t able to keep everyone in check/happy. Maria didn’t have the experience to handle a veteran cast. BUT I do appreciate the attempt and the fact that most vets were kept and a lot of people (like Nina, Phillip, Chris, Danny, Traci) were brought back.
