Ex-Y&R Showrunner Maria Arena Bell: "I Had NOTHING to do With The Way They Are Resolving These Stories"

In case you missed the memo, former The Young and the Restless showrunner Maria Arena Bell wants viewers to know she has nothing to do with how her storylines are being wrapped up. According to Soap Opera Digest, the axed EP wrote on her Facebook page:

To any Y and R viewers who read my Facebook page... I had NOTHING to do with the way they are resolving these stories. Despite my name still being on the show— which it should not be — I did not intend to have Phyllis trial end with charges being dropped or any of these other story lines now playing. I am no longer a part of this show in ANY way, folks. It's all the new guys.

Wait, she's not responsible for the way current storylines are being smartly wrapped up, but she admits to greenlighting Victor (Eric Braeden) marrying Sharon (Sharon Case), Kevin (Greg Rikaart) becoming a chipmunk bankrobber, Skye dying in a volanco, people being poisoned by crop dusters... Okay then. Just so long as we're clear on things!

Maria Bell is a hot mess! The nerve!! Pleading to the very fans she dismissed for years. As though we wouldn't recognize her garbage from miles away. She is shaming the Bell family dynasty with her post termination antics. Someone please, silence the lamb.

Well, she's right.

The show drastically changed last week, and we all know the new stuff is from JG. I can't for the life of me understand, why they are still crediting her after Josh. These new developments have nothing to do with her anymore.

Oh Maria ... they still try to wrap up YOUR stupid stories like the Ricky murder mystery. This is the ONLY reason you are still in the credits.

It's sad that SOD never links MAB's postings back to her Facebook page. BUT I can understand why they don't.
This woman is just delusional and should shut the hell up already. While this whole mess was going down with Victor/Sharon and other outrages storylines, MAB answered to NO ONE.
The minute she gets fired she leaves one mysterious Facebook comment after another.

Go and take care of MOCA, Maria.

One question lingers: What "Y & R" fan in their right minds would read her FACEBOOK page? SHE CAN'T WRITE!!!

I think everyone noticed when the show "shifted". It is interesting though that if people are seeing something they don't like still it's due to "MAB", and if they like it they credit Josh.

Just an observation.

And yes, I think we all know he's the one writing the end of her storylines, but that doesn't mean he'll resolve them the way she or we would like.

Let's just get past these.

Yep, Maria is seriously delusional. The only reason that her name is still in the credits is because Josh Griffith is cleaning up the pile of horse manure that she dumped on the show.

If Maria is a writer I would think she would realize that her name being in the credits has to do with her contract and the WGA. Even though Josh is now head writer much of the long term story that is playing out is from Maria's term at Y&R with Josh tweeking it to make sense and move his stories forward.

End Stories Josh changed to work in his upcoming stories. This is why her name is on the credits...he wants fans to know right now it's still basically MAB's stories and wants fans to be patient because a new day is coming. Smile

Maria, thanks for letting us know that you had nothing to do with the way these storylines are being resolved, but the fact they're even being resolved proves you had nothing to do with it! If your talents (and I use the terms VERY loosely) were still around, the stories wouldn't be resolved at all! We'd have to wait another four months only to discover that Ricky's knife was actually taken by space aliens. It would take about another three months for Phyllis to go to trial and in the meantime, she'd have played Merry-Go-Round with Nick and Ronan at least four more times. Then she would have been found guilty and done around 15 minutes worth of jail time before saving the warden with the Heimlich Maneuver and getting off for good behavior. As for Daisy, you'd have her come back and disappear over and over again and prove with each visit that she's no better at acting than the previous go round. As for Sharon, she'd still be screwing everything with the last name Newman. Knowing you, dear Maria, that would probably include her own son! After getting busy with Noah, her lust for Newman DNA would still not be satiated. Having been through all the males, Sharon would next be licking her chops for Victoria! Yes, Maria honey, it's DELIGHTFULLY obvious that you are no longer around!

Wow... never thought I would agree or sympathize with Maria "I'm an idiot" bell but she does have a point in calling out the new guys with how they are wrapping up stories. Phyllis gets off in a heartbeat INSTEAD of, let's say, being found guilty and maybe getting probation?!

Or Victor comes back one day and is back at work the NEXT without a trip to his cardiologist to check out his heart?!

Or the fact that it seems the new guys are going to wreck Chelsea and Adam to bring him back to Sharon?!

Or that they have fired a slew of stars and hired a few others without getting rid of more bad actors?

Or that they had Cane PULL a Fire Alarm in a hotel just so he can find the chick tormenting him?! ANd he did it with the hotel staff's permission?! Last time I checked, pulling a false alarm... which would alert the fire department ... is a CLASS A MISDEMEANOR in Wisconsin. (I'm all for finding out the truth but this was stupid)

Or bringing Daisy back JUST to have her disappear again?

Or making Kevin a selfish ASS who should just get his ass kicked to the curb and written out of the story.

This woman is unhinged and suffers from delusions that we care about her shitty stories in the first place. She can only blame herself by shoveling her shit and forcing it on Y&R's audience. It got so out of hand that Sony and CBS had to step in and clean up her mess.

The best thing this arrogant Beverly Hills housewife should do is fade into memory and concentrate on the MOMA in LA. Go away honey, just go away.

What a difference a few episodes make. The changes really show just how bad the writing was the last few years. They needed to wind these sl up quickly. I for one can't wait to see what happens next. I am wondering if Victor had a seizure.

This disgusting hag needs to shut the hell up. She destroyed this show. I don't think it will ever recover from her reign of terror regardless of what the new regime has planned.

You guys are so "mean" ...

pjc722 ... like your post #15 which is right on target. Of course Genoa City has never been a place where anything realistic takes place ever. From miraculous recoveries and magical travel to most getting away with anything from misdemeanors to murder.

Of course right now? Nikki back in true haughty Lady Macbeth form is very irksome to me. And how dare she so quickly turn against Jack anyway? And how does MTS get those lines out without sputtering?

No, no, no MAB had Victor winning and Tucker going to jail. Why do so many think the stories would end exactly the way they would want it to if MAB was still writing it?

Besides Maria wasn't writing your dream story she was working on mine. She was just about to contact Jess Walton to arrange for her return and Jill's grand re-entry back into Genoa City.

It was Jill who would eventually take over Newman Enterprises right after she took over Chancellor Industries. It was going to be quite a feat too, because all the while she would be vigorously pursued by three very handsome and charming gentleman; Colin, William Russ's Tucker, and Larry Wharton. I just know it's true! HA!

Another MAB bash post!!! Hooray!!! I guess we were overdue for one on DC, it's been, what, three days since the last one?

To actually and fairly address the point she brought up, I think she should have been consulted regarding how they plan to wrap up the storylines. They by no means needed to take her advice, and they probably shouldn't have, but there's no denying MAB was passionate about her craft. She wanted to let the fans know that this is not how she planned to end the storylines. The new writers should have actually listened to how she planned to end things to smooth out the transition, and if they didn't agree with them then move forward.

That's it, she's not taking a shot at the new writing regime, and there's no need to continually bash her.

She's right that she had nothing to do with what's being written lately, that's because it's not the big ol' mess that it was when she was writing for it!

And another reason we know it's not her work is because you don't see any Nick at Nite actors on anymore. That's another sign the show is MAB free.

I agree it will be great when her name is no longer in the credits.

You know, we don't agree about much on this site, lol, but I agree with you on this. Things were not all sunshine and roses when Josh was with the show. Not saying there won't be a much needed improvement with the show, but as we saw with Maria, and we've seen with every other writer who takes over a soap, practically everything they do seems glorious when they're 'cleaning' up the mess from the prior regime.

It's when they begin telling their own stories that we see if they'll really sink or swim. It's way too soon to be singing anyone's praises.

I'm already bummed how they are screwing up Adam & Chelsea. I hate how obvious it is they are gearing up for Sharon & Adam redux. And this soap trend of baby miscarriages/deaths ( I know I know, they've always happened, but I swear I've seen more of it on the soaps in a relatively small span of time than I can recall before ) just pisses me me off at this point. What is it soap writers have against babies? re.

Yeah, you can tell she had nothing to do with the writing, at least during this weeks eps; the writing is focused and the actual dialogue has been pretty sharp. With the exception of Phyllis getting off and some of the about-face behavior(Nikki toward Jack being the most obvious) I think it's been exponentially better in the last week or so.
