HomeTVABCABC Pulls The Plug on Private Practice Jillian Bowe October 20, 2012 ABC, News, Private Practice, TV 21 Comments Say goodbye to the doctors of Santa Monica's fictional Oceanside Wellness Group. After six seasons, ABC has decided to end Private Practice's run once it completes the current 13-episode order. Per Deadline, ABC and Private Practice's showrunner/creator Shonda Rhimes mutually came to the decision to end the series after the Mouse House declined to give it an additional 9-episode pickup. 21 Responses GHFan777 October 20, 2012 I am probably the most bummed over this news because I was eagerly awaiting for Charlotte to give birth to her triplets. The rest of the show has been losing ground for some time, for me at least. I never felt the same about the show after Addison and Sam had their affair. I hated that they did that to Naomi, who felt betrayed by both. I finally feel they got the right guy for Addison at least. Jake is really special. I hope it goes out with a bang. Log in to Reply SoapArmageddon October 20, 2012 It was a joy to have Kate Walsh on my screen as Addison; but, as much as I wanted to like this show, I just didn’t connect with most of the other characters. They didn’t seem that caring or sympathetic to me and that does not bode well for a medical drama. Log in to Reply liason4real October 20, 2012 Addison and Sam were just as nasty as Liz and Nik. Blech. When Addison found out the truth about her parents marriage, she decided to continue on with her inappropriate sexual relationships and instead of it being Derek’s BFF Mark Sloan, she chose to stab her BFF Naomi in the back by bedding Sam who was just as sleazy and backstabbing as Addison. I’ve always liked Charlotte and Cooper. Sam was okay as long as he wasn’t sneaking around with Addison behind Naomi’s back. There are times when I want to just slap Violet in the face. Adios, PP. Log in to Reply The_Moustache October 20, 2012 thank effin’ god! it was about time. they should’ve cancelled the show after the first season. Log in to Reply ghalltheway October 20, 2012 It is probably because Kate Welsh is only signed up to do the 13 episodes and her contract is up. She does not want to renew. The only thing they really could do was cancel the show. Log in to Reply logan_echolls October 20, 2012 I watched this show faithfully, even though I hated judgmental Pete. But I couldn’t take Addison sleeping with her best friend’s ex husband. That was just so low for Addison. Addison saw how devasted Noami was when Sam just divorced her without warning. I remember how she was lying on the bathroom crying because of him. Then Sam tried to get back with her and thankfully she turned him down. Addison went to college with Noami, Sam, Sloan and Derek. Their daughter was her god daughter! It was bad enough she took over the practice from Noami but she got with her ex. That was too much for me. As much as I loved the character of Addison, her backstabbing her friend like that was too much for me especially after she already did it to her husband. Then they killed off Dell and allowed his daughter to go to foster care. Those horrible ppl. I missed the Addison from Grey’s. That Addison was fearless and not all childlike. I remember her hanging Meredith’s panties on the board after finding them. She was not to be played with on Grey’s. I have always hated that they never did the love triangle between Karve/Addison/Sloan. Sloan came back for her. Those two had great chemistry. I hated how she just slept with Karev, she went to him thinking it meant more, he blows her off and she heads to Cali. Stupid. Log in to Reply Dax October 20, 2012 How can Shonda MUTUALLY agree to cancel AFTER being told the network wasn’t going to order more shows? That’s like someone writing you a dear John letter, moving everything out of the apartment and you telling your friends it was a mutual decision. Come on, Shonda. I used to watch this show with my boyfriend. But, we both lost interest when the show started pushing Addison and Sam. Also, the show became dark visually. It used to look sunny and happy. Now, it looks dark and stale, which is strange, considering all of the other ABC shows look bright and polished. Log in to Reply TV Gord October 20, 2012 I enjoyed the show, but it’s time. (I don’t feel the need to convene a revival meeting to celebrate its demise, though. If I don’t like a show, I just stop watching it.) Log in to Reply timepass October 20, 2012 There was nobody else for her to sleep with, anyway. Log in to Reply soapjunkie88 October 20, 2012 I watched the first four seasons. After that I slowly lost interest until I stopped watching. “Private Practice” had so many problems over the years. Addison’s ever changing men did the show no good either. In the end, I wish Kate Walsh would have stayed with “Grey’s”. For me she had her major love interest right there – in Mark Sloan. I even liked her with Alex. Pete never worked for me & her relationship to Sam was all shades of wrong and they finally ruined that with her obsession for a baby & his opinion about it. Well six seasons. That’s good for a TV show. Just don’t think PP did deserve it. It’s a good decision to cancel the show instead of doing one without Kate Walsh. Log in to Reply TV Gord October 20, 2012 I wouldn’t be surprised to see a character or two move to Grey’s. Log in to Reply rozzberry October 20, 2012 Bummer. I just hope they wrap it up well. That’s a peeve for me when shows get cancelled suddenly(or somewhat suddenly) & don’t have the time to end it properly. Log in to Reply alstonboy4315 October 21, 2012 Wishful casting: Taye Diggs as Malcolm Winters!!! Wishful casting: Sharon Leal as Lily Winters!!!! It’s a shame this show is going off the air. All the good scripted shows are being replaced with reality TV crap! It sickens me!! Log in to Reply ldylkng October 21, 2012 Oh Alstonboy, AMEN! I would give anything for those castings, especially Taye! And the reality crap will probably sooner than later have me turning my TV off forever! God save the scripted soaps!!! Log in to Reply TV Gord October 21, 2012 Taye Diggs would NEVER stoop to doing a soap at this point in his career, not ever. Log in to Reply alstonboy4315 October 21, 2012 TV Gord, It was a joke. lol. I ain’t that naive!! Log in to Reply TV Gord October 21, 2012 Oh. Okay. We’re on the same wavelength, anyway. I posted my comment just to piss everyone off! (Gotta keep the juices flowing…) Log in to Reply david46208 October 22, 2012 @TV Gord: He already did a soap early on. He was Shug on Guiding Light in 1997. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIRogxK7CU0 But would he go back? Probably not. But they could try for a 3rd time to make series where he is the star or migrate him back over to Gray’s. Log in to Reply TV Gord October 22, 2012 I know, David. That’s why I wrote, “at this point in his career”. And besides, I was kidding. I just really hate to see the show gone and hope Charlotte gets on something good. I was never thrilled about her being pregnant with triplets. I just don’t see the need for so many babies on any show. Most of the cast are decent actors.
