General Hospital: Perkie's Observations

Sam introduces Sonny to the baby and goes on about being a happy family with Jason again.  Sonny interrupts and breaks the news to her that Jason has been shot and thrown into the harbor. Sonny tells her he dove into the water to look for him, but came up empty. Sam needs to see for herself, and leaves Sonny in charge of the baby.

Lulu can’t believe how hurt she is over not being able to carry a child.  Dante reassures her there are other ways to have a family.  He gets a call about the pier, and heads out after Lulu convinces him she’ll be okay.  Maxie finds her and wonders if Lulu’s tears are of joy because she’s pregnant. However, Lulu busts Maxie's bubble and explains her condition. Maxie offers her condolences and asks about the pamphlets.  Lulu says they contain other options, but she’s not interested right now.  Lulu wants a strong drink, so the two head to Jake’s.

Joe dies after telling Trey that Sonny shot him.  Trey begs Tracy to get him to a hospital, but she says it’s too late and nothing can be done. Tracy suggests they need to call the police.  Trey asks her to call Kristina and Tracy obliges.  Trey wonders why his father ended up here, and Tracy explains they were friends.  She gives Trey his father’s medallion and he’s grateful to have it, since his was taken from him.

Starr and Michael are surprised when Kristina shows up looking for Trey. They quickly realize he went to find his father.  Kristina gets the call from Tracy and heads out.  Sonny phones Michael to tell him Bernie and Jason have been shot and he needs Michael to baby-sit Daniel.

Spinelli and Ellie show up at Jake’s to find Mac, Felicia, Shawn and Alexis in the middle of another strip poker game.  Ellie drools over Shawn’s half naked body.  Spin introduces Ellie to Mac and Felicia, and Felicia thinks Ellie is Maxie’s replacement.  Mac points out that Spin offered Maxie his heart, but she rejected him.

Shawn and Alexis make small talk about Trey and the annulment.  Ellie and Spin join them, and Spin is thrilled to hear that JaSam have reconciled.

Maxie tells Lulu she went to see Matt, who was fine with getting a divorce. She wants to tell Spin about Matt's decision. Lulu thinks it’s a bad idea, but Maxie approaches Spin and lets him know.

Trey talks to his father and sulks over not having any family now. He wonders if he should avenge his father's death.  Kristina arrives, surprised to see Joe dead.  Trey tells her Sonny killed him.  Kris cautions him that they don't know for sure who murdered him, but she wouldn't be surprised if it was Sonny.

Dante’s on the scene getting caught up to speed on the latest happenings when Sam arrives. Dante says their calling off the search, since it’s too cold and the current is too strong.  Sam knows Jason is down there, and they can’t stop looking for him now.  She refuses to give up and asks for a wet suit to look for Jason herself. Dante doesn’t want her going in the water, but she tells him she’s going down and no one can stop her.

Michael wants to go with Sonny to the scene, but Sonny doesn’t want him to see Jason if the worst has happened. Therefore, Michael and Starr babysit Danny while Sonny returns to the pier.  Michael talks about Jason's great fathering skills and explains his upbringing with Jason. Starr urges him to stay hopeful as long as possible.

Sonny gets back to the scene and lets Dante know what Bernie told him.  Before Dante can investigate, he gets a call about Joe and leaves. Sam arrives in a wet suit and tells Sonny she’s going to find Jason.

Tracy wonders about Joe's admission that he saved her with his only antidote to Jerry's poison. Dante arrives and Tracy explains everything.  Trey tells him Sonny is a suspect, but Dante reminds him Sonny was at his apartment when the original call came in.  Trey figures Sonny headed straight to the pier and shot Joe.  Dante says only one gun was recovered, and it appears to be Joe’s.

Dante mentions Bernie’s death and Jason's shooting, but Trey swears his father didn’t do it.  Trey claims Sonny told Jason to kill Joe.  Dante asks Tracy if there is more to her story, and she hesitates, but denies anything else.   Trey complains to Kristina that everything they said about his father was true. He was a criminal and a murderer, but he was still his father and he loved him.

Sam comes out of the water and Sonny asks if she found anything.  Sam shows him the phoenix.

Kudos to Julie Berman. She did an excellent job of selling Lulu's grief at not being able to have a baby. Loved that MAxie was there for her, but then got annoyed at how quickly everything became about MAxie and her Spin issues.

What is the opposite of kudos? Jeers? Because that's what I give to Eric Valdez. Sorry, but he didn't sell me on "my father just died of a gun shot wound", but more like, "my keys are missing and I'm late for a dentist appoitment". Then Kristina shows up, and granted she'd want Joe dead for what he did to her, but she was so wooden towards Trey, whom she's supposed to have some feelings for.

I'm glad to see Sam being proactive, going down to the scene, determined to find Jason. Although I call baloney on so many people walking around a crime scene.

Loved Starr's ease with Danny.

I have to be honest but the Jason exit/death is falling incredibly flat for me. The acting by Kemo and co is terrible. I always find Kemo to be a very bland and lifeless actress but this is just especially bad, its like no one is even trying and usually she tries. I feel like she is so over extended with DWTS that she just isn't there. I feel like they should have done the Sam getting her baby back and JaSam reuniting for the big September story and saved the toxin for Sweeps and and killed Jason off during that. That way they could have kept Kemo on the back burner more so she wouldn't be over extended and Jason's death would have been final and less contrived. Plus JaSam fans would have had a longer reunion.

Not to mention then a character of meaning would have died during the crisis, and SB's Jason could have had fitting goodbye scenes fitting a 20 year character (hard core Jason hater but know his history and value to GH). As it stands now it just is a terrible story and I can't enjoy him dying.

Since when has Lulu wanted to be a mother? She was all fired up to be an adventure junkie, working at the PCPD, working at a whore house, and rebuilding the Haunted Star. Lulu has never seemed interested in motherhood.

ABC network is the one that ordered the "sweeps" stunt in order to bring in viewers for Katie's show.

First Elle, I so agree with you girl on Shawn's pecs. I so agree. And THANK YOU for a shirtless Mac. Thank you. Thank you. Don't care about Lulu's not being able to have a baby since everyone always get their miracle baby and the Long Island Medium already saw her pregnant. Maxie/Spinelli are not endgame. Leave that alone.

I may get bombed for this but I was VERY upset Sam left Danny to go look for Jason. First of all she just got this baby back like the day before. This is soap time so technically Sam just got that baby back less than 24 hours ago. This baby doesn't know her yet or his surroundings.

Sam knows Jason's job. She knows he's a hitman and work for the mob so more than likely he will shoot someone or get shot (which he has millions of times). Sam should have stayed her behind there with her child and instead of asking Sonny to watch Danny, she should have just sent Sonny back out to find out what is going on. Heck just months earlier Sam left Jason because he couldn't except the baby and Sam swore to put the baby first. Leaving your child that you just got back less than 24 hours to look for your hitman husband is not putting your child first.

I'm not knocking Sam for being worried or even looking for him but she just got her baby back after she's been crying for a baby for 7 years just pissed me off. Heck Sonny didn't even stay and watch the kid. He doesn't even watch his own kids!

Then Sam wanting to dive to look for Jason. That really pissed me off. Yeah she's experienced but what if that one time the tide that took Jason away take her 95 lbs behind away.

I loved Tracy today but Trey just seemed like he was mad that he had to drive out of his way to Tracy's house. I didn't feel the connection and Kristina showing up didn't help. The actress who plays Kristina always looks confuse or like she doesn't know where she is.

My thoughts are the same about Sam. I would not have gone looking for my Husband but as a mother myself I would move heaven and Hell to put my children first. She already knows the dangers that comes with her husband's "job". She should have insisted that Sonny go back. I guess her MATERNAL instincts, have yet to kick in. As for Christina I think the powers that be should have auditioned longer for that part. she has been in this role for a long enough time to "get" it but so far I don't think she has.

I spent most of this hour both crying and laughing.

JMB has been so convincing in expressing all of Lulu's emotional distress that she's had me in tears! I'm so happy that KS is back as Maxie!! JMB and KS have a delightful chemistry that makes these scenes so enjoyable to watch!

And before I could dry my tears they were falling again listening to Sonny tell Sam about Jason while Sam was telling Sonny all about their reconciliation. Watching Sam's shocked face and then showing grit and determination to look for Jason herself! Sam insisting that the coast guard give her a wet suit so she could look for her husband and Sonny understanding and giving her space. And then Sam recovering the little china phoenix. Her eyes at that moment when she took the scuba mask off broke my heart!! KeMo's performance was gut wrenching and I could see and feel her shock, her anger, her fear, her determination and her love for Jason!!!

I always enjoy when Tracy is on my screen but once Trey and Kristina entered the foray all the air went out of the room. Trey's grief was not believable and Kristina looked beyond bored. Both of them need acting classes pronto!

And then the lighter moments...

I thought the scenes with Sonny and Danny were so touching. It made me laugh and smile to watch him playing and talking to Danny. MB clearly loves children!

Watching Starr and Michael baby sit Danny was sweet. Her singing to Danny was haunting to hear while the other scenes played out.

Spinelli and Elli were adorable at The Floating Rib. I totally enjoyed them walking in on Mac, Alexis, Shawn and Felicia playing strip pool again! Cleary Mac and Shawn are hunks and Alexis and Felicia are sharks!! Spinelli's reaction to Sam and Jason getting back together and having their son back was so wonderful to watch. I couldn't help but smile watching his enthusiasm!

I really appreciated the levity of these moments considering how dramatic and sad the rest of the hour was.

I heard from a few people that this episode was mock-worthy, so I watched it on youtube. I'm glad I did. First, JMB did a great job and I really felt Lulu's pain. I know that wanting to be a mom was a new thing for Lulu, but she had embraced it and really wanted it to happen. So, to find out that it wasn't possible would still be extremely painful, and the actress expressed this pain well.

Second, Sam just got her baby back but is going to leave him with a stranger (to the baby) to go out to look for her husband at a crime scene? Nice.

Third, no department (police, coast guard, etc.) would give a civilian equipment to go on a search at a crime scene. Would not happen. Beyond ridiculous. This type of thing might have been believable in the 80's or even the early 90's, but with the advent of Law & Order, CSI, and dozens of other crime shows (none of which are accurate but express a generally accurate depiction of general law enforcement technique. e.g. DNA can be collected at times, but it can not be processed in 10 minutes) soaps can't expect to get away with such unbelievable crap.

Fourth, they had just told Sam that they were calling off the search because the current was too strong and the water was too cold. After hearing this, knowing that she is Danny's only parent, she jumps into the water to look for her shot hitman husband who has been down there too long to save anyway? Horrible choice. Just a horrible choice for a mother to make.

Fifth, the current is so strong that it swept a 200 lb man away, but the stupid little figurine was just waiting there for Sam to find? Stupid. Just stupid.

Sixth, I don't know if Kemo was trying to epxress shock, but her affect came across as flat and bored. It looked like she was trying to find a lost wallet, not a lost husband. (BTW, I saw her on DWTS on Monday night and I thought she did a great job. The judges were kind of harsh on her for no reason.)

Sixth, loved seeing Mac shirtless! He is so underused. It makes me sad.

The show just fell flat for me. Sam leaving her baby, going into the water looking for Jason, didn't feel much emotion from her. Trey and Kristina, they always look like they are ACTING, false emotions, bring back the original Kristina, get rid of Trey, and bring back Ethan. GH can be so good, and then certain shows seem to be written in a rush, like they are done so cheaply and badly acted.

Let us not forget that Sam disn't just leave this poor baby with a stranger. She left the baby with a mob kingpin who it is very likely Jason just took a bullet for. Jason was tending Sonny's business when he was shot. It is very possible in any case that Sonny was the target and she leaves this poor innocent child in the line of fire.

Awesome mother material!

^^ js3557: I agree with your entire post but especially this! John J. York looks amazing. He's hecka hot and a strong actor. Why is he so underused? It's a crying shame. How great would a Mac/Anna/Duke triangle or a Felicia/Mac/Alexis triangle? And as hot as Sean Blakemore is, Shawn is a wildly underdeveloped character who has no chemistry with Alexis/NLG. It seems Shawn is only utilized as eye-candy. I just knew Mac/Felicia and Shawn/Alexis would discuss their uninteresting children (Maxie and Sam, Kristina.) There's never any exploration of Shawn, Alexis, Mac or Felicia as characters. I would like to see Felicia meet Duke. She used to know Duke and wasn't she a PI as well as mystery writer? It would be great if she suspected he wasn't who he claimed to be.

Regarding the episode: I found it all so eye-roll-inducing and boring. Last week was a masterpiece compared to this week thus far. Ellie is adorable but Spixie is D.O.A. Let it go already! Michael wailing, Trey "emoting" and Kristina being Kristina, all so dull. Jane Elliott could not even elevate the scenes because that's how bad the younger actors were.

Disappointed Sam left her baby like that. Poor move writers. Jason's exit lacks any emotional impact. I dread the week to come as reports of his death spreads. Argh.

js3557's Post #8 - was full of win. SO much so that I don't even need to comment.

yesterday was the first epi I have watched since Re-Ron decided to have Liz do what she did. I promised that I would not return until after Jason was gone.

I will give Sam a pass on her emotions but not for leaving the child with Sonny. I am expecting nothing but great acting for the remainder of the week

As for LooLoo, never one of my favorite characters, I respect her acting and range to show me how she felt...I have a problem with baby rabies and it's sudden onset.

Lulu grates my last nerve but kudos to JMB. She had me teary. This storyline is much better than the Jason one and the actors are showing emotion and pulling me in. Sam...girl really? I felt nothing when she got the baby back and even I feel even less now. KeMo needs a break.or maybe a better story.

Okay so new moms aren't allowed to leave their house for how long, a year, two? Ridiculous. And she didn't go out to the Floating Rib for crying out loud she went to find her missing husband, it's an instinct any wife would have. Plus that building's supposed to be secure, they've said that like a scabillion times over the years. As for leaving him with a stranger, the kid was in Llanview with an entirely different family, everyone's a stranger right now!

I do think Sonny and Sam waltzing all over the crime scene and the diving stuff was stupid though, along with her finding that dragon. Jason's body was taken by the current but that little toy hung around, okey dokey. (I'm so sick of those stupid Chinese sculpture thingies anyway, it always got on my nerves.)

The scenes with Trey were ridiculous. This kid cannot act. The girl that plays Kristina is getting a teensy bit better (maybe?) but this kid is just awful! I usually like to give the young ones time to develop but Trey has been on for awhile, he's worked with all the vets and he's not improving at all.

@Steph570: I was displeased with Sam leaving her baby hours after bringing him home for the first time. They had just been reunited AND she ran off to the scene of a crime. I think maternal instinct should trump marital instinct in this instance.

I agree that I am beyond tired of those cheap Chinese restaurant trinkets but they fittingly represent JaSam's "love."

Funny how not one person commented on Jason leaving his baby after just getting him home. Guess he had no "paternal instincts".

Jason's lack of paternal instincts have been well-established through story. On the otherhand, Sam has whined on ad nauseum about wanting a baby for years.Wink

Jason went to work. Sam left the baby she has gone on and on about wanting with a mob kingpin and the possible target of a shootout. At least, she didn't take him diving with her.

oooohhhh, so the guy can leave anytime he wants to but the woman is on house arrest for however long (still not clear on the number). Being five months pregnant myself this is fascinating to me, apparently I need to stock up on canned goods Wink

Speaking of babies, I forgot about this earlier but I always love to focus on the picky stuff. When Lulu was telling Dante they can't have kids she specifically said there was no surgical option, but yesterday she was holding a brochure that read "surgical options". They are seriously getting lazy with the props and sets.

@Steph570: Congratulations on your pregnancy and coming bundle of joy.

For me, the issue is not gendered, rather, Sam has gone on and on about having a baby and less than 24 hours after being reunited with her baby she leaves the baby to go to a crime scene! Further, she risks her life diving in dangerous waters. Jason has ALWAYS honored his responsibilities to Sonny above his responsibilities to all others and that's a well-documented fact.

Steph- I didn't see where anyone said you have to be on house arrest but there isn't going to ever be a time when it is okay to leave a defenseless child with someone who is a target for a shoot out. She didn't leave her baby to go to work or run to the store to get milk and leave the child with Sonny on a normal boring day. She left the baby to run to a crime scene after Sonny told her both Bernie and Jason were shot. Shouldn't the assumption always be that Sonny's business and Sonny is the intended target? The only worse step she could have made was stopping off at a gun range and hanging the kid from a hook directly in front of the bullseye.

WOW- Kemo is such a stunner. I can't believe how good she looked in a diving suit. For me I have always loved her acting because I think her range is huge. She is one of the few to me who can express so much with her eyes. You don't have to scream every line to get your point accross- but I know she can do that too I love that little Danny already has so many babysitters and I hope to keep seeing him accross the board with all of his family and friends. That's another reason why I love that cutie- he is so connected to everyone. I am hoping to see Michael step into a Jason role for him. It will give him a chance to show some good maturity.

I loved that Sam raced to save the man she loved. She left Danny safe- and I loved Sonny talking to the baby. MB is such a cutie..

Loved Maxie and Lulu- they always act well off each other. However no triangle with SpinEllie and Maxie. I love SpinEllie-just give me a cute story..

I don't get how Sam left Danny safe. If Jason, Sonny's hitman, got shot I would be worried that the person who shot Jason would be gunning for his boss Sonny. I would not have left my child alone with Sonny. I don't call that leaving the child SHE JUST GOT BACK HOURS AGO with a mob kingpin safe.

Ital that Sam has her baby back for what., 24 hours and she drops everything to search for Jason? I kept thinking she would realize she was this child's only parent and not put herself in jeopardy. That really pissed me off. I also take issue with the liitle tschotske being in the water.

I do however give Sam a pass as far as her reaction to Jason's death. He's been shot and faced death too many times. I get her detachment, but you just got your son back and you need to focus on him. Bad move on the part of the director.

Baby Daniel is so so adorable. That kid even has chemistry with Sonny, amazing. Then the little mob boss calls Michael and Starr to babysit. Poor little thing! The baby, I mean.

As for Lulu, I get her reactions.I struggled with infertility so I can identify with what it means to hear that news. I hope they leave her alone for awhile to come to terms with the news before looking into "options", but it does look like they are setting Maxine up as surrogate.

IMO, being mothers doesn't really suit the characters of GH's Sam or Private Practice's Addison. Each woman had baby rabbies, but they just look out of place with a kid. On the other hand, PP's Charlotte never wanted kids but has come to love her new step-son and is currently pregnant with triples.

I am always very intriqued by how we all see these scenes so differently.

Here is what I am wondering. I am wondering if Bernie was set up to call Jason for help so Jason could get shoved into the harbor by Duke. Has anyone seen the National Treasure film where Nick Cage jumps into the water and is met by deep sea divers ans whisked away? I would like to see Jason soon alive and in a room adjacent to Robin.

As for Sam- I never had the impression that a baby was more important to her than Jason. A baby may have been a means to Jason but it was never more important. She just proved me right.

JASAMMABBY Love Love

I think Sam is a wonderful mother!!! She knew her son was safe with Sonny in her well guarded penthouse!! And having just gotten back together with Jason I can understand her panic and terror that Jason might have been killed and wanting to go see for herself. At least she doesn't have multiple children that she leaves with their elderly grandmother or in daycare 24/7 and she didn't leave Danny unattended to crawl out the front door!!!
