Josh Duhamel Sells Soap-Within-a-Soap Pilot to ABC!

Guess who's back in the soap opera game? Deadline is reporting All My Children alum Josh Duhamel has teamed up with The Mark Gordon Co. and Revenge producers Aaron Harberts and Gretchen J. Berg for an hour-long soap opera for ABC.

According to the site, Duhamel came up with the idea to create a series based on the behind-the-scenes drama of a daytime soap opera, while the show is on cancellation watch. Sound familiar?

The untitled show will showcase how the stars of the soap fight to keep it on the air, while keeping their love lives and egos secured. Duhamel will serve as executive producer alongside Berg, Harberts, Mark Gordon Co's Nicholas Pepper and actor Oliver Hudson. Should the series get picked up, look for Duhamel and Hudson to make appearances.

How ridiculous that ABC are picking up a show like this!

LMAO...

It would be hilarious if ABC picks up a pilot about a soap-within-a-soap, where the Daytime soap faces cancellation. And no less from a former "All My Children" star. Can't find the words for it.

I would love to see this show though. Laughing out loud

It would be a great way to get unemployed daytime actors into prime time, and it would probably be as juicy as hell! I'd watch it, no question.

Wasn't this the plot of Soapdish?

No. The soap in Soapdish wasn't on the verge of cancellation. It was set in a time when soaps were still thriving. Anyway, this would be a whole different set of characters...and hopefully not as broad and farcical as Soapdish was.

He could use all the behind the scenes drama that happened on OLTL and AMC for his drama...how about that for irony

I just don't understand why someone cannot come up with a concept of a NEW soap with a story and characters, etc. and employ actors who generally do daytime. Hey, at this point there are so many available and also I am sure many would take a chance to go primetime even if they are still on an existing soap opera. It will either work or it won't work. I still think it is worth a try. There are prime time shows that give day players a chance but what if the whole show consisted of daytime heavy hitters even if they are from defunct shows. I am surprised it has not been tried. I wouldn't be surprised if it worked. ABC seems to throw soaps on primetime, left and right, but they seem to use a lot of the actors connected to Disney. I never kept track but it seems the same actors are bouncing around on the shows in primetime. I am not sure what the connection is all the time. It is either the agents, network and/or connections. Same actors playing different characters or, in some cases, same type of character on different shows. Why can't someone take chance on past soap opera actors? Who knows better how to create a NEW character.

This soap story concept does not pull me. I think I repeated thoughts in prior paragraph but it is late. Sorry. You get the idea.

I think it's a brilliant idea; ABC would be stupid for not picking it up, it could bring in their former soap viewers. It would be even greater if some of the former soap stars were to show up or even be regulars!

Sounds similar to Michael O'Leary's web comedy "Steamboat."

Love it! I hope they pick it up!
