Log in to Reply hey mon November 19, 2012 Boring. Bring back MAB ASAP! Need my psycho of the month. Log in to Reply stoney07 November 19, 2012 I don’t see how Y&R is boring. Y&R right now is the way Y&R always was under Bill Bell. I’ll get my head shot off as I always do, but Y&R under Bill Bell and until 2005 was a lot more emotion…a lot less ACTION. THIS is what they meant by soap viewers attention spans….Y&R is labeled BORING, while GH with their 40 returns of villains, baby deaths, kidnappings, back from the deads, masks, etc…gets heralded as great soap. LAWD JESUS…and YES I said it… Log in to Reply Coffee_Junkie November 19, 2012
Boring. Bring back MAB ASAP! Need my psycho of the month.
I’m pretty sure you’re in the minority. MAB SUCKED. Log in to Reply Jamey Giddens November 19, 2012 GH and Y&R are now, and always have been, two totally different animals. GH is harkening back to its most successful era, when yes, the soap had a lot of outlandish stuff going on. When it’s rooted in a show’s mythology, it makes sense. Have you seen the clips on You Tube of Laura holding a machine gun aimed at Cassadine henchmen? Nothing on GH today is any crazier than Robin, Robert, Anna, Frisco and Felicia helping an alien named Casey retrieve the crystals Faison stole, in order for Casey to return to his home planet. GH isn’t going crazy out of the blue. Crazy worked for this show in the past, and judging by the ratings, it’s working again. MAB’s brand of crazy was out of place on Y&R, because it wasn’t that type of a soap. Anna was a double agent for the WSB and DVX. Spy games, stolen identities, etc. were all common with these characters. The wildest Bill Bell ever got was Kay/Marge, David Kimble, Sheila, and/or maybe that dude who buried Lauren alive. For the most part, Y&R was a slower-paced, sexually-charged, psychological drama. At their best, neither was the “better soap”, but today, when GH is actually paying homage to its history, while Y&R is still sorta limping along, it’s reason enough for us to get so excited about GH. It’s like comparing The Good Wife to Revenge. Y&R under Bill Bell was The Good Wife, while GH at it’s best was the first season of Revenge. I’ve never said Y&R needs to be like GH. It does need to be its best Y&R. It’s still work in progress but much tighter written material you call “limp along” I call it “story-pacing” which is good right now and getting better. I ‘m so happy right now with Y&R personally in the direction and writing. PS: Shawn buried Lauren and Paul saved her! Log in to Reply Angie Lucy November 20, 2012 Preach, Jamey! I love both shows and have no desire for either to emulate the other. Log in to Reply Mets82 November 20, 2012 Is it me or did some of the clips already happen? I thought I saw that but maybe Im wrong. Dont see anything earth shattering. Btw, no Y&R or B&B on Thursday because of NFL Football. Log in to Reply Smitty November 20, 2012 and let the church say……..AMEN!!! JAMEY!! Y&R still has a LONG WAYS TO GO before I could consider it great. I’m not too impressed with the new regime. I said it on twitter a few days ago that I just don’t see the “greatness” that everyone else is seeing. I find it very mediocre. I would give it a D so far. I still don’t feel very invested in the show. It’s improved but it went from an F to a D. I know it will take some time to get this show fully cleaned up and I hope in six months I can be shouting my praises of Y&R. If I had to judge by today I don’t see it happening. It would be pretty boring, and elicit too many comparisons, if the shows were similar to each other. I like that they are so different. Log in to Reply hey mon November 20, 2012 Well Jamey, I wish I could have the best of both philosophies, like DAYS in its’ hey-day in the 90s. The fast-paced weird action of MAB, with great resolutions, and great story-telling. Diane talking to the audience after she’s been killed with her suspects lined up goth-like behind ‘their’ pillows in early August of last year. But only ruin it, by having Diane be guilty of attempted by having her try to kill Nikki. Then Nikki gets off by the self-defense claim. Great set up by MAB, lousy resolution 6months later. Then to just shuffle Stacy Haiduk off the Show after Patty gets holed up in a church after shooting Jack. Insane. Followed by 2 months of Gen being the ‘belle of the ball’ by having everyone ‘court’ her because she owns Beauty of Nature. Dumb! But what are we returning to? The plodding of Joshua Griffiths. Back to 2007 we go. Spending 2 months with Victoria in a coma, while Nikki, Victor, Brad, and JT, debate whether or not future-Reed should be delivered early, cause it might jeopardize Vicky’s life. Boring! Need a stalker-of-the-month. Need me some crazy Sharon loves her kidnapper (hey, it worked for 2 years!). Need me some Evil Colin trying to kill Jill one minute in June, then trying to romance and bed her in July. What I dont need that was MAB’s downfall. Too much Victor always winning, Angie and Angelo (give me serious organized crime), Kevin and his stupid s/l’s. I want the good dialog and emotion of Josh G, with the action of MAB. Log in to Reply pferrando November 21, 2012 MAB had some great ideas, was good at using vets, and bringing back fan favs but struggled (or her team)with carrying out her ideas and developing the characters besides being one note. And there was too much crazy that just has never belonged on this show. I don’t see greatness yet either, but I am liking (not loving yet) a return to the slower, calmer style of storytelling. I thought that after 2005/2006 the show went to shit under LML and I believe Josh was writing at the time. Truthfully I was so frustrated during her reign of awful that I don’t remember fondly anything he wrote. I still wish he’d tie up some of the loose ends so I know where the current stories are headed. I am also waiting for him to “surprise” me and that has yet to happen. Burning down the ranch was not that. Log in to Reply Cuppa_Coffee November 21, 2012 There are enough soapers that will agree with me when I say ‘Enough Sharon!’ They need to wind that up alright, but she can’t get by with arson! Bad enough that she stole an expensive necklace, Chelsea’s gloss, Summers tickets, Kyles license… what else did I miss. I know the Sharon lovers are pi**ed that Phyllis’s case was dropped, Gawddd it was over 20 years old!! Wrap it up and send her to NM. Log in to Reply Mets82 November 21, 2012 I didnt watch Y&R during the 80s and 90s but Im guessing that the writing isnt what it was back in the 80s and 90s. Looking back, I think MAB got cute with storyline. What I mean is that a storyline started off great and then tailspinned. EX. the Diane murder. I actually liked the days leading up to the murder and the murder itself. What was too far fetched for me was what happened afterward. Patty knitting pillows? Patty sending everyone to that warehouse or something and showed the film of Diane being murdered? Remember that? Sometimes, less is more. You dont need fancy budgets, CGI etc. Just give the actors and actresses some meat to there story and watch them go. In the minority here probably, but when you have Victor, Jill, Nikki, Nick, Phyllis, Jack, Katherine, Neil etc. all you really need is a planned storyline and watch them act. You dont need to get fancy and have all this drawn out stuff (Remember the memory card stuff?) You dont have to get too cute (ie Angelina and Angelo) because it never works out.
