Ratings, Rants and Raves: Bold and Beautiful Inches Up; General Hospital Hits 2-Year High
Speaking of soaps that need to figure a few things out, Days of Our Lives fell 134,000 total viewers over the previous week. DAYS was in last place among W18-49 and fell one-tenth of a point among W18-34. Salem, we have a problem.
Marlena (Deidre Hall) found John (Drake Hogestyn) in a compromising position with Kristen (Eileen Davidson) at the Horton Cabin. Someone thought it would be a good idea to chem-test Abigail (Kate Mansi) and EJ (James Scott). Sami (Alison Sweeney) got a new and familiar boss at Countess Willa Jean and Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) returned as a brunette. Did I mention he's also a priest?
DAYS has all of the makings of a great soap opera. Davidson is back. Fans go ape poop over any pairing Sweeney is involved in. WilSon is generating killer buzz and Vaughan is one of the hottest guys in soaps. So what's the problem?
I'll tell you what the problem is, anemic storytelling! Kristen DiMera should be pulling stunts and scandals on a epic scale. Finding your man at a cabin with another woman is ripped from the Carrie/Austin/Sami teen triangle — these are grown ass women!
Why isn't Kristen hiring an actor to play one of Marlena's patients, who then attempts suicide? Kristen could then work to get Marlena's medical license revoked! In other words, she should be truly wreaking havoc on the good Doc's life. Kristen isn't the type of soap bitch to pull Petticoat Junction pranks on Marlena. Step this business up!
Why DAYS refuses to tell an actual EJami story is beyond me. Sami running around with her hair in a bun trying to keep Gabi from getting an abortion is a waste of Alison Sweeney's time and mine.
Who on God's Earth thought it would be a good idea to make Eric a priest? You don't hire Greg Vaughan and think, "I'm gonna put him in a suit with a collar!" Gary Tomlin and Chris Whitesell already did this mess with Joey Buchanan on One Life to Live and it went over just as well. Dear Steve Kent, fix your daytime soaps!
