Ratings, Rants and Raves: Bold and Beautiful Inches Up; General Hospital Hits 2-Year High
General Hospital dropped 17,000 total viewers over the previous week, but held steady in the demos. GH was once again No. 1 among W18-34, and was only separated from Y&R among W18-49 by one-tenth of a point. GH also posted a two-year high among W18-34, which ABC is heavily touting via press release.
Two shocking reveals dominated story in Port Charles the week in question. As Carly (Laura Wright) confronted a back-from-the-dead AJ (Sean Kanan), a captive Robin (Kimberly McCullough) was horrified to learn "Duke" (Ian Buchanan) was really Faison (Anders Hove) wearing the best Halloween mask ever! This is how you motherfreaking save a soap opera. How many times did you rewind Monica (Leslie Charleson) slapping the taste out of Carly's fast mouth?
The week also saw Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) make his return to town and Sam confronting Anna (Finola Hughes) over the lack of forward movement in the Case of The Disappearing Jason (Steve Burton). Girl, he's in Tennessee. Go ahead on and get you some of McBain's (Michael Easton) nightstick!
While it's no secret I think GH is the best daytime soap on the air right now, there's still room for improvement. This Britt/Patrick/Sabrina stuff has grown silly. I'd rather see Robin found out to be alive. Then she, Patrick (Jason Thompson) and Emma could leave town together — that is unless McCullough signs a new contract! Don't get me wrong, I love Thompson and Patrick, but if I wanted to watch Ugly Betty's Anatomy, I'd go to TV Guide Channel.
It would make much more sense for Patrick to fall in love with Liz (Rebecca Herbst)—and be building a family with her—when Liz's pal Robin makes her stunning return, than to keep up this daffy, non-triangle. I do think the actress playing Sabrina is charming though; just not charming enough for me to look up her name right now. See you next Ratings!
