DC's Top 5 Soap Opera Newcomers of 2012

No. 2: Erik Valdez, General Hospital

Not many newbie actors could pull off portraying the long-lost son of a fashionista's alternate personality. General Hospital newcomer Erik Valdez did his best to accomplish said feat in 2012.

Being saddled with several storylines that absolutely didn't work in 2012 (Mob Princess, Connie/Kate), on an otherwise wonderfully-rejuvenated GH, Valdez still managed to give Trey Mitchell Scully heart and root factor. We just wish TPTB had ditched his relationship with a poorly recast Kristina (Lindsay Morgan) in favor of a triangle with Starr (Kristen Alderson) and Michael (Chad Duell). It just might have made the difference.

Hunter is terrific in the role! Got a solid with her.

Still bummed about Trey leaving GH. Kids a good actor

Robert Adamson is my personal favorite. He owned the role of Noah from his first day on. His chemistry with Sharon Case is sometimes a little bit too hot to really create this mother/son-relationship-vibe but it's still amazing to see how well they play off on each other.

It's a shame that they didn't use Erik Valdez in a better storyline. First mob princess and then the Connie/Kate debacle. It only got worse by pairing him with this awful Kristina recast. Poor boy!

When I had heard they'd recast Noah for the tenth time, I went awwwwww...

But with the new writer, the character is so much more likeable and stronger...not to mention HOT. He really is doing a good job and I am on board.

Also like the new Kyle...(also hot), but my verdict is out on Summer. Not there with her yet.

I am really impressed with the talent hired to play Y&R's Summer and Noah. Blake Hood looks the part but I have never been interested in Kyle. His attraction to Phyllis is particularly annoying. Kyle could leave Genoa City with Eden and I would not notice.

Over at GH, I thought Valdez was a weak actor and weaker character. Richmond was fabulous on Everybody Hates Chris and I looked forward to him joining GH but he hasn't been featured enough to make impact. I would swap out Valdez or Richmond for the actress who plays Ellie. She's a good actress and IMO the best new character on GH in years! She makes Damien Spinelli a tolerable character and that's a great feat.

I do not watch Y and R but I agree with soapbaby about GH.

Trey is not a good actor. The new kid playing Molly's new love hasn't been around enough to be best of anything. Ellie was overlooked for this list. She is talented. I do not get the impression that her scene partners are instructing her and she has great chem with Maxie too.

That list is upside down, I love the new Noah.

Cannot abide the one playing Kyle he seems like he his trying too much.

Jury still up for Summer.

GHvetfan/timepass-Agree with you about Ellie (Emily Wilson). Love her. Smart, attractive and she's got good comedic skills, something that this regime should take advantage of.

EV while charming and engaging in real life, has been inconsistant, part of which I attribute to less than stellar writing and God bless her, LM, who, after a generous "break in" period, for me, has not come up to same level as the cast around her. I know she's not being spotlighted on this list but, much like EV, she is a charming young woman but whatever coaching she's getting hasn't made me feel like I should care about her Kristina.

Tequan Richmond hasn't had enough screen time to make a big impression. However, what I've seen in the past couple of episodes with HP, KSul, and RoHo has been encouraging. I think his interpretation of TJ is somewhat clearer than Krys Myers who debuted in what originally seemed to be a throw away role. I'd like to see them keep him around as he and HP have an unforced, non-cloying sweetness together... Innocent

The new Noah is trying really hard, but Kevin Schmitt had it really believable as someone who truly loves his mother, Sharon. Plus, Kevin looked just like Sharon Case. New Noah looks like Nick's younger brother. Dont know his real age, but he cant be a day under 30 yrs old.

Blake Hood is doing great job as the new Kyle. He had a terrible task to perform, as Kyle was SORASSEd from 11 to 23 yrs old. Everyone was clearly conscious of Kyle in 2011, as he was on 3 times a week during his Mother's Murder Mystery. Plus, when is is the room with Adam, he looks like Adam's cone.

Speaking of Eden and Kyle, I hope Josh G doesn't throw them under the Bus, and starts a romance heating up between them. Hopefully, Red doesn't get another notch on her desk by bedding Jack's son.

I wouldn't have put the girl playing Summer in the top 25 newcomers. She's terrible. I'm not exaggerating.

Where the hell is Ellie Spinelli on this list? You put King and Valdez (who is good but has already been fired) but not Ellie Spinelli? Silly.

Why is RA lower than BH? BH was a horrible recast GR acted circles around him as young Kyle.

EV sucks he was so lackluster. I wish the blame would stop being place on LM. He brought her down not the other way around. She has alot of potential but they barely used her outside of propping Trey and Starr.

TR was barley on this year and he did nothing better than the last portrayer.

Bizarre list, especially for GH. Valdez obviously wasn't that strong of an actor and didn't make much of an impression on viewers, hence, his exit. As for the kid playing TJ I don't think he has even been in more than 10 episodes since he premiered in the role. The attention is a bit unwarranted this early on.

Must. Chime. In. E-L-L-I-E. That's the only name that came to mind when I saw the title of this article - top newcomer of 2012 - where is she?? Glad the GH fans all seem to agree that this is a glaring omission! Smile

Yeah, I picked up on this too in several of their scenes together. Still, I agree with someone else who said this list is upside down; both Blake Hood and Hunter King are very good--well, I'd say BH is very good and HK is just good--but RA outranks them both by a mile in my book. I would've put him at #1; very talented guy not to mention beautiful from head to toe.

Btw,would you consider Jessica Collins(Avery) a newcomer? I dont remember if she debuted in 2012 or 2011.

I always get Kyle and Noah confused on Y&R. Also, what about Caroline Spencer? She debuted in 2012, right?

I TOTALLY agree with your #1 choice. I really think that King has that "IT" factor, like Tammy Blanchard, Tom Pelphrey, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Heather Tom and Tricia Cast had. If she doesn't start winning Emmys and become a mainstream actress, I'm gonna be pissed.

She actually reminds me a lot of Brittany Snow when she was playing Harley's brattastic daughter, Daisy, on GL in the late 90s. I wanted to smack the crap out of her, but it was because she played the role of a teenage bitch so effectively.

RA has slid right into the role and Noah is much stronger character now s a Newman heir. KS I enjoyed as a younger Noah but I don't think the direction Y&R might want to take Noah is a strong suit with Kevin. Whose to say it skipped a generation where Nick has always been more like Nikki, Noah could be just like Grandpa. Wink

As for Hunter I love her and know there has been some complaining but as mentioned the scenes at the party was superb and the the talk between Phyllis & Summer was spot on and you could feel her confusion on her young face.

alstonboy4315 Her younger sister is very talented as well. Joey King has been in various movies and TV shows. Hunter was in Artificial Intelligence when she was younger. I found that she slipped into the role of Summer flawlessly on her first day.

I really LIKE Robert Adamson but I also like the fact that the writers have given this new Noah the balls to admit that he was sickened by his mother and grandfather getting it on, and by his family's pathetic antics.

And I agree, he IS hot!

Robert Adamson is 27 years old. Sharon's in her 40's so that works. Sure he looks like Nick, isn't that the idea, kid looks like his Dad. Summer is a little witch. Fen is spooky looking. Looks like that guy from the movie Christine.

But now Noah is lying for Sharon. They aren't doing Sharon any favors lying for her and covering for her arson.Letting Sharon convince him that the bi-polar is the reason she did those thing... BS. Sharon knows/knew exactly what she was doing and kept acting crazy so the doctor that Adam brought could label her as BP.

I wouldn't kick NuNoah out of bed. The other actor just seemed to "immature" to handle this heavy storyline of Noah helping out his mother while not telling his Dad; and the future storyline of just exactly who Noah's " EX " is.

I also enjoy HHK in her role of "Summer"... the plotline is interesting, and I can't wait to see where this "Jamey-Summer" kiss is headed. And it is interesting that she seems to be blending Phyllis and Avery into her "perfect mother ".

I also like the actor who is now playing Fenmore... he seems, more and more, to be cut straight of Lauren, who we all know was hell on wheels in her younger days! Poor Tracy Abbott!!

I agree with all of these choices except for the actress who plays Summer. Not a fan of hers. I think Blake and Eric Valdez get more complaints than they deserve. I've seen worse teen actors. Also, I think the new Noah is doing a good job at Y&R.

TraceyAbbott I like the actor and character of Fen (he's a little hottie) now and he is cut from the same genes as Lauren. Michael had his own problems but it was different because the audience didn't see the character as a young Michael where we did with Lauren. He's a spoiled rich kid as Lauren was with her Dad Neal. It would be great for added flavor if Tracy actually was involved somehow in the story when she hears about the bully incident and finds out it's Lauren's son. Love Maybe Lauren will contact Tracy for help Fen on her experience and man think of the flashbacks we could see to make it even more real Wink

NuKyle not a fan, he just annoys me.

Guess you can call Adamson new to the daytime genre, but he's been on Lincoln Heights and Hollywood Heights, but always liked him anyway, took a while but am used to him even though he looks like Nick had him when he was 10.

NuSummer not feeling it yet, can't get my finger off the ff button.

Trey wasn't great, but I didn't really care for his stories...

As for Nu-Summer, Nu-Noah, and Nu-Kyle, I like them all. Summer and Noah were just perfect recasts. I couldn't stand Nu-Kyle at first, but that was under MAB. IDK what it was about him, but he just seemed slimey and slick to me. HE still does somewhat, which is weird because we'd just seen the cute little innocent boy Kyle not even four months before he was SORAS'D. But slowly I'm warming up to him, I guess. Even though I still don't trust the guy. He and PHyllis won't have anything going on. Clearly Kyle is plotting some sort of revenge on Phyllis (why not Nikki, I don't know), but yeah...I don't see Kyle falling for a woman who had a hand in killing his mother not even two years ago...

@ stoney: I think these writers may all but forget about Diane and the circumstances surrounding her death. Kyle never mentions it and he interacts with a town full of people who disrespected his mother (I particularly blame Victor.) It's also pretty unanimous that Diane's return and entire story were botched and best forgotten. I think it's pretty clear that Kyle is attracted to Phyllis. I'm not happy with the story and where it might go with Jack's downward spiral. Even recalling how the show wrecked Diane and wasted Maura West still makes me mad. She's such a great actress and really should be working.

I like Blake Hood. He's talented and besides being very attractive, he resembles Peter Bergman. Those re all pluses but I just don't think there is a place for Kyle on the canvas. He should exit and return when the writers can identify a story for the character.
