HomeTVAll My ChildrenBREAKING NEWS: Prospect Park Officially Renews Plans to Revive All My Children and One Life to Live! Jamey Giddens December 17, 2012 All My Children, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, One Life to Live, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and The Restless 49 Comments At the 11th hour, it appears Prospect Park is moving forward with plans to bring One Live to Live and All My Children back via the Internet. Deadline is reporting the production company has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and the DGA, and hopes to begin production in the first quarter of 2013. I'd been hearing that Prospect Park hoped to extend their rights to AMC and OLTL, which had been set to expire at the end of January 2013. However, there has also been interest among both ABC's Daytime and Primetime divisions in the brands of late. Additionally, Prospect Park principles Rich Frank and Jeff Kwatinetz have been inquiring with literary agents who represent soap opera writers about their clients availability, according to my moles. I can't lie; I was hoping AMC and OLTL's rebirth would be under the stewardship of Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati, but if PP can make it happen this time around, I will be more than supportive. Here we go again… Photo credit: ABC 49 Responses appleridge December 17, 2012 Okay DC Family what have u guys & gals heard regarding this. Should we be happy or doubtful Log in to Reply bishbay December 17, 2012 I wanna see the receipts. Seems more likely this is a stalling tactic–what’s changed since this went belly-up a year ago, aside from many of the actors/writers/crew getting other jobs? Log in to Reply Daniel St. John December 17, 2012 From the Deadline article:
I hear there are preliminary discussions with actors from All My Children and One Life To Live to rejoin the revived shows. Prospect Park refused to comment.
So does this mean that certain characters are off limits to GH still? And does it also mean that there will be a bidding war for actors that GH is interested in like Ted King? Log in to Reply giogio December 17, 2012 OK here I am. I hope this isnt some sort of joke from those pranksters PP. Whatttt, Im in seventh heaven. Log in to Reply liason4real December 17, 2012 OLTL and AMC should have never been cancelled in the first place. Yes, I am enjoying RC/FV over on GH, but they truly belong (IMO) over at OLTL giving us our beloved Viki, Dorian, Victor Lord Jr., Natalie, Roxie and the humorous David Vickers Buchanan! Log in to Reply THEBEST December 17, 2012 I’m not getting my hopes up. It seems like déjà vu. Can ABC just eat crow, cancel “The Chew” &/or “Katie”, and put both shows back on TV? I’ll take 30min for each. Or, retool them and put em on ABC Family in the late afternoon at 4/5pm. Log in to Reply lcrtorch December 17, 2012 What does this mean for the OLTL characters that are on GH and does this also mean no one else from either show will be showing up in Port Charles? Log in to Reply Coffee_Junkie December 17, 2012 Nelson Branco is saying that two Y&R actors are out. Does anyone know who? I don’t feel like shelling out any more money for his emag right now. Never mind I went ahead and ponied up the money. Just as I suspected–today was Stephen Nichols last taping date! Log in to Reply Llanview76 December 17, 2012 THEBEST…yes, I agree, make them 30 minutes PLEASE…the concept may be old school, but it’s cost effective and will encourage people to invest time in watching both. I personally don’t have downtime to watch two hour long dramas…I just wish they would consider that. Log in to Reply DonnyA2001 December 17, 2012 So is this a good thing? I really don’t wanna be run ragged by this prospect again. I was really hoping after January, ABC would have seen the era of their ways and brought back at least one of the soaps. It’ll be cool to see this really happen, but I don’t know…I’m so leery of the whole thing. They put a bad taste in my mouth first time around. Also, if this does actually happen, they are gonna be two different shows. Cartini is busy with GH right now and won’t be able to head OLTL so it’ll be a different show. And I supposed AMC could only get better…maybe they can get Lorraine Broadrick to come back to both shows. Log in to Reply appleridge December 17, 2012 who is the 2nd Y&R actor out? Log in to Reply angrierblackerman December 17, 2012 Meh…I won’t believe it’s true until after I watch the first episode. I have already moved on, so if it happens, great and best of luck to PP. I still crave a Susan Lucci fix now and again though. Log in to Reply soapjunkie88 December 17, 2012 I don’t see this happening. Honestly, it would have been better if ABC got the rights back after January 2013. They could have make these two brands work again but with Prospect Park I’m just very doubtful with the debacle we had a year ago. Not to mention that the financial side hasn’t really changed. Sounds more like Prospect Park doesn’t want to lose to ABC and now tries again so the network doesn’t get to have the rebirth of the two. It’s a long way to bring these two shows back especially with Prospect Park involved. Log in to Reply missmuffett41 December 17, 2012 I hope this is true. but knowing PP and their stalling tactics, it’s probably a joke to get soap fans all riled up again. Log in to Reply Y2Jin99 December 17, 2012 If this happens I need to catch up. I still have 51 episodes of AMC that I never finished and 27 OLTL. I bet the current OLTL’ers stay on GH especially Todd. Log in to Reply californiaguy888 December 18, 2012 After reading this I’m thinking Lucy, Charlie Brown, and the football. Log in to Reply Marland Fan December 18, 2012 So let me get this straight… ABC Daytime may possibly pay to air shows they used to own, cancelled, and sold to someone else? Obviously they realize they made a HUGE mistake. Log in to Reply Katiebug9624 December 18, 2012 It sounds to me like PP is scrambling since there rights are almost up. At this point I would rather ABC get the shows back because I don’t trust PP and I don’t think they really want to do anything with the soaps they just don’t want there toys taken away. Log in to Reply missmuffett41 December 18, 2012 How can PP get the rights to AMC & OLTL back if the rights revert back to ABC/D? Log in to Reply blake3b December 18, 2012
After reading this I’m thinking Lucy, Charlie Brown, and the football.
I know right? Log in to Reply Secrets and Lies December 18, 2012 The only way this is going to work financially is if they forget the idea of trying to match the exact production values of a network daytime soap. The unrealistic budget aspirations is what tanked the first attempt. Most people would be happy with production quality somewhere in between a network soap and a web soap so long as the stories are good and they get the actors we want to see. Guiding Light had a good idea with changing the production model to more location shooting, they just didn’t execute it very well and it wasn’t well suited for the big screen. Log in to Reply Soap_Stud December 18, 2012 If this pans out, I will be supportive. I worry about the availability of actors and more than anything, who will be writing it! Log in to Reply brettyboy December 18, 2012 I really hope Prospect Park aren’t playing games again; I just can’t help but hope….. Log in to Reply Yoryla December 18, 2012 Well, if this is true – Wow! I would like to see OLTL return. Log in to Reply ABCJunky73 December 18, 2012 I so want to believe this, in fact I am trying not to jump of the couch and do a happy dance, but Prospect Park failed us once. ABC needs to own up to their mistake of cancelling OLTL and AMC and put them back on air, either 1/2 hour shows or primetime. If this is true, it will be the greatest Christmas gift ever, but like some have stated, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice… Until it is signed, sealed, delivered and broadcast over the TV in a press conference,I will believe it when I see it. Log in to Reply TV Gord December 18, 2012 This is just cruel, to offer false hope to all of the way-too-delusional soap fans out there. Just cruel. Log in to Reply TomZulawski December 18, 2012 General Hospitals ratings upswing and the attention it has been getting is raising some eyebrows. Katie and The Chew are both falling behind GH is all Demos and ABC is now realizing that the Soaps may not have been as dead as they thought they were. GH is gaining momentum with barely any budget so imagine what could happen if they actually put some money into the soaps rather than running them into the ground. Now that Prospect Parks rights are about to expire and revert back to ABC, PP realize they need to make something happen, and fast. It ain’t gonna happen for Prospect Park, but I will lay odds that ABC will reboot these shows in some capacity and bring them back. Its only a matter of time before Erica Kane and Victoria Lord are Back in their respective homes Log in to Reply Transfigurationjc December 18, 2012 If Disney truly wanted these shows they would have taken the rights back as had been reported earlier. But this silly twist just proves that Disney is over these shows. Pp will fall flat on their face just like the last time. Meanwhile Disney will rake in the dough they are paying them in licensing fees. Lol. I’m so glad that I lost interest in both these shows over a decade ago. One good this is that if One Life does come back on the web maybe we can be spared of any more One Life characters on GH. Im hoping so. Im so sick of the cross over BS. GH is not a life boat for displaced One Lifers. Go back to your own show or do what other actors do. Go out and audition for new roles. Acting is not stable profession in the first place. You have to roll with the punches and move on to new things. Log in to Reply TV Gord December 18, 2012 From tvbythenumbers.com: “During the show’s first-ever week of repeats (w/o 11/26/12), “Katie” stood as the No. 1 freshman syndicated talk show for the 12th straight week with Total Viewers (2.226 million) and Households (1.7 rating), defeating runner-up “Steve Harvey” (1.5 rating and 1.955 million) with a week of originals by 13% and 14%, respectively. “Katie” continues to trend as TV’s biggest new syndicated talk show since 2009 – going back to the debut season of Dr. Oz.” Log in to Reply Grimm December 18, 2012 I don’t think it will happen this time anymore than it happened last time. But can someone clarify what the deal is with OLTL/AMC characters appearing on GH. Some can (Todd/Blair/Starr etc) but others CAN’T appear? Is it something to do with actors having signed on with the Prospect Park project that never materialized? Log in to Reply beansmorgan December 18, 2012 This may be an unpopular opinion, but rather than ABC attempting to “bring back” AMC or OLTL, why not take a page from Soapnet and just air old versions of either show in either the noon or 1pm time slot. I’d love to watch either show circa the late 70’s, 80’s, or even early 90’s. ABC owns the footage, right? Seems like they’d save a ton of money, but also slightly appease the daytime audience. And then they can focus on GH’s sustainability. It seems like you can always manipulate ratings. Log in to Reply coolshoes December 18, 2012 I’m guessing that PP is having a “renewed” effort in order to gain something (anything!) now that their rights are about to expire — a movie or miniseries, perhaps (and I would be happy to see that, if well done, in either show’s case). I highly doubt they have the funds to continue AMC and OLTL in any format that fans were used to, as much as I would love to see it and would wholeheartedly support it. Sorry, I am not about to fall for this “soap savior” story again. Tell me when they’re in production, and I’ll look forward to watching my beloved shows again. Log in to Reply TV Gord December 18, 2012 robertscorpio, Katie is produced at a fraction of the cost, so it’s doing well by comparison. I posted that paragraph because someone mentioned above that Katie is failing. Well, it depends on whose standards you’re using. Anyway, as Katie is a syndicated show and not an ABC network show, it’s apples and oranges. Log in to Reply brettyboy December 18, 2012 Transfigurationjc – I find your attitude and comments extremely selfish and narrow minded. It is not long since GH was itself on the verge of being axed and the migration of a SMALL number of OLTL characters has brought many OLTL fans across to the show (myself included) and helped enormously to boost the ratings. Ron and Frank have made this show incredible on a tiny budget. Prior to this year I had never watched GH, now it’s my favourite TV show, but I watched a few eps from before Frank and Ron took over and it was very poor. I guarantee you that if not for Frank and Ron and the OLTL stars, GH would have been cancelled by now. The AMC and OLTL fans have lost so much, do you really begrudge them a few OLTL characters crossing over? If GH had been cancelled and OLTL lived on, I guarantee I wouldn’t be complaining about a few GH characters being introduced to the canvas! Log in to Reply brettyboy December 18, 2012 I agree, but didn’t they invest 80 million? Log in to Reply Katiebug9624 December 18, 2012 Katie IS failing considering they spent 80 million on a talk show that brings in 2.5 or so million viewers a day. Can you imagine how much they pay her? Log in to Reply harlee490 December 18, 2012 I truly hope this will be happening for fans because PP has been asses and outright lying to fans. I just don’t know what to think. I would love AMC back. Out of all the ABC soaps AMC was always my favorite. If they can bring back the soaps in some form would be a blessing from the soap gods & goddesses. But honestly I don’t think PP could afford LaLucci. Susan is AMC all I want to hear first they are bring on Susan on with a contract and I would be happy. PP created the nightmare and lying to fans so now it will be hard to create excitement and get the fans behind PP because how they raked fans over the coal. Log in to Reply TV Gord December 18, 2012 It’s amazing how some fans have no problem grasping the financial realities of talk shows but are in such denial about the financial realities of soaps. Log in to Reply bmfish02 December 18, 2012 Right now, from what I can gather, actors who signed contracts with PP have to get permission from PP to play their characters on GH. (So Easton, DePaiva, and Lozano) Actors who did not do not. PP has the right to produce the shows, but ABC still OWNS the shows, the characters, etc. which means they could still employ them elsewhere. It’s a loophole I’m sure PP did not think about b/c Ron Carlivati has hinted at behind the scenes issues with PP (not letting Melissa Archer appear) Log in to Reply appleridge December 18, 2012 Original Deadline article updated: SAG-AFTRA & DGA Confirm to deadline that a deal was made with PP to continue #AMC & #OLTL on-line Log in to Reply JasamForever December 18, 2012 I will believe it when I see it on the screen. Log in to Reply doctormo77 December 18, 2012 Prospect Park needs to $hit or get off the pot. I do not want to get my hopes up especially when people are salivating at the thought of Natalie Buchanan and Tomas/Alcazar showing up in Port Charles. I would rather have 12 or 13 week installments of AMC and OLTL or a hybrid show on ABC Family (if ABC Daytime is not interested), then another attempt at full blown shows that ends in disaster. If PP is truly interested, maybe some sort of compromise could be reached. PP could develop an online spinoff like the British soap Eastenders; the show was called E20 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EastEnders:_E20). E20 involved some of the younger characters and occasional appearances by veteran cast members. Log in to Reply rapid_roman61 December 19, 2012 I’m skeptical. As I’ve written before, Criminal Minds is produced by ABC Studios, yet it has aired on CBS since day one. Are you considering that an ABC show, too? I’m curious to know how you know stations are unhappy with how Katie is performing. The way the game is played, they will be cheerleaders to the bitter end with shows they air.
