BREAKING NEWS: General Hospital's Steve Burton Heads to The Young and the Restless!

Who didn't see this coming? TV Guide Magazine's Michael Logan is reporting former General Hospital star Steve Burton is returning to soaps, just not the one that made him a household name.

Burton is reuniting with his former GH boss Jill Farren Phelps on The Young and the Restless!  So much for Steve-O longing for the quiet life in good ol' Nashville...

Burton and Phelps are reportedly also working on a telenovela with James Franco. No word on what role Burton will play on Y&R. Our money is on Dylan, the mysterious ex Avery (Jessica Collins) keeps bringing up! Look for the actor to start taping soon.

Man, I've really started to like Y&R again...hopefully he doesn't hog screen time and his character instead of being wasted on Avery can be paired with Sharon Case's Sharon. Girl needs a man away from the Newmans.

Katherine's "son" has to be almost the exact same age as Jill (who was thought to be her daughter). Is this new guy really pushing 60 years old? Because he doesn't look like it.

My bad. Didn't read your post closely. Naw,--don't think SB will be Tucker's "long lost son." We already went through with that crap with Devon and it didn't work then. They are rushing Nichols out the door and barely giving him any screen time. They've not going to give him a son on his way out.

For sure though JFP is going to tie SBu to canvas. Whether it's through the Chancellors or not. It was just my theory.

I think im most annoyed that instead of being honest, burton said it was all about his family. Lets face facts here, GH provided Sbu with a great living for two decades. The show is now on life support and may not survive and from the focus data that was leaked I would say about a year ago, he really IS the face of gh. For him to not only diss the show, but to join a rival show, is IMHO terrible. Mo took all sorts of cuts and made the contract work just because he is dedicated to the show, to the viewers and to the people who earn their livings from its production.

A month ago I would have said NEVER recast Jason but given his lack of loyalty I now hope they go for it. If Y and R wants to get rid of josh morrow, cartini should consider him for the role. Or maybe jeff branson. Or heck if cartini REALLY wanted to stick the knife in I say look for a bigger name - one from outside daytime. Jamey needs to put on his thinking cap.

OOH I just had an INSPIRED choice. what about the guy who plays mayhem for the auto insurance commercials? He has had cameos in prime time but nothing major since OZ. Im not sure if many of you watched Oz back in the day on HBO but that actor was incredible and he and KeMo I am betting would be fire. (of course she has chemistry with everyone).

Looks like she might be the female spoiler to the Lame pairing tiic mentioned in SOD's 2013 soap preview.

Oh Gawd...Sharon and Cane? I'd prefer SBu's character and Sharon.

In SOD it said Cane would be tempted by a new co-worker, and in today's CDN ep, he was interviewing Sharon to work at Jabot, smh.

DG's been angling for Sharon/Cane for a while now, guess Santa's granting his wish.

Cane & Sharon would be INFINITELY 100% more interesting than Cane & Lily have ever been. IMHO.

I'm looking at it from the damage it would do to Sharon. Stealing her best friend's daughter's husband.

IF they happen, i bet Lily will sleep with Tyler first, freeing Cane for Sharon. SO Sharon won't be stealing anyone.

Glad to hear it. I have barely watched GH lately it is so incredibly boring and stupid. Missed seeing Jason on there but that is not why I have almost stopped watching - the wretched acting of some of those new people are unbearable so I end up fast forwarding through most of it. So good for Burton and for me since I find Y & R vastly more entertaining these days.

I agree with RockiDreams. I'm glad to hear that Steve will be back on even if it is Y&R. I barely watched GH as well since it is extremely boring and utterly stupid. For me Y&R is very interesting and much more entertaining. I doubt it was the money that brought Steve back to California/Los Angeles.

EET- You actually got me pissed at him.. Thanks for the different take on things.. What you pointed out about Maurice is so true.. When I was watching today I was watching him in a new respected light. He has had his character written bad but he never let him affect his loyalty.. I still think he of course has the right to do whatever he likes- but he has to accept that some GH fans will be totally turned off by the move and choose to not stay his fan..

I do love Mayham- he would have crazy chemistry with Kelly. I do think it would suit to go out of the box on his recast. Not someone who looks or acts like him would so be perfect..

Maxsmom thank you. I dont mean to make it like sbu did something to ME - Im not that crazy when it comes to soaps - but I am all about loyalty and jobs are on the line - LOTS of jobs and jobs that belong to people that made a heck of a lot less than steve made over the last twenty years but without which he wouldnt have had the platform. thats the part that just pains me. I dont feel that way about steven nichols going to young or genie, because they werent given the moon to stay nor were they made the face of the show (though arguably genie was shoved aside even though shes the heart of the show). thats why this pains me and like you i too see mo with all sorts of newfound admiration. I seriously feel my sonny love coming back in part because he has been such a team player despite the regime change. I just wish steve had followed mos lead and considered the genre given all hes gained from it.

im glad you like my suggestion about Dean Winters. I am surprised he hasnt found more prime time success because I thought he was beyond fantastic in OZ. He really made you kind of care about o'reilly even though he was as violent and brutal as anyone in the prison. i also thought he brought real energy to his guest stint on law and order. Ive honestly given this some thought and while im sure there are other great options I keep coming back to him at the top of my wish list. If he is smart he should consider something like this because the soap audience would follow him in to future projects. I really do see mcbam as all sorts of crazy good, but i dont see how they move the sam story along without an end to the jasam story first. if they dont recast, they are going to have to do sam's dad I think as some sort of catalyst to explain why she would give up without a body. If she leaned on mcbain to follow her paternity story that makes sense, esp. if maybe danny needed something with illness/biology but still i think she needs closure with jason just as mcbain needs to finish the jolie story. Once I understand why i should believe that they are past their current relationships and truly ready for each other can I really invest. I could also see her finding robert is her dad and pushing her towards john, but again, i want that to be because she choses mcbam and not just because jason disappeared as i would always sort of see john as her second choice. i felt the same way about brenda and jax at times too - that i never really saw him and sonny as equals to her because he was always the top choice when sonny essentially blew it. my one complaint about that triangle was that it always seemed like brenda didnt fully see what jax brought to the table. I was torn between sonny and jax but i didnt always feel like BRENDA was equally torn.

Oh and I would say same to liz and aj - if jason came back changed i could see her being team aj or if she looked at him and said you always made me second to carly and sam but aj puts me first Id get it, but to make her and aj viable, i have to accept she wants him and isnt just seeing him as a poor mans substitute - the guy she opts for because jason is gone. To tell that story you have to have jason on the canvas even if just for six to twelve months.

Oh and one last aside. I give lots of props to jason segel. HIMYM put him on the map and since he started that show his career has taken off in ways that the others havent quite enjoyed. He COULD have bailed on a last season and I think that end would have been very unsatisfactory - and then theres all the cast and crew that wanted one more year and would have been jobless - but he felt some team loyalty and gave the producers one last year to really wrap up the story beautifully. Thats a lot of paychecks that wouldnt have been earned otherwise. I have a lot of respect for that - certainly he had the right to bail but he felt an obligation to do right by his fans and his coworkers. I hardly think he is going to suffer for it, and as far as im concerned i have more respect for him now than i ever had. Just being that cool makes me way more inclined to see his next film - it tells me hes a good guy and maybe this makes me a total geek but i like the idea of seeing good guys succeed. I keep coming back to the idea that y&r would have waited. Burton COULD have come back for a month leading up to the 50th, given the characters (not to mention the fans of) sam and liz closure, regained his q memories and gone off to atone, find himself, meet the dalai lama whatever (something like that) Bby then gh would have been renewed or not and if not one of the women would have gotten an apology, she would have realized she wasnt that in love with him anyway, and the other woman would have gotten the hea. If the show went on then no one could fault burton for being a nail in the coffin. In fact, if he had stepped up like that I might have tuned in to see him in the new role. Win WIn and JFP loves burton enough that a job would have been waiting no matter what. Seriously what was four months in the grand scheme of things. doesnt he have a monavie franchise to carry him until the next gig?

Back in 2006, Joshua G was a Writer and Consultant during the whole "Summer is born & Who is Her Daddy?" story-line. Then he became the Executive Producer and Head Writer of the Show. I dont know if Josh G was writing for Nick Newman at the time of Summer's paternity, but it sure seems somewhat likely. Under MAB's tenure, the whole concept may have been shelved, and Jack was cast as a guy who dealt with Patty/Emily, then Diane, then Gen, then Nikki -- with no mention of Summer. Now that Josh G is back, in the past 2 weeks (Summer's birthday celebrations), there have 2 references how Summer was born and delivered by Jack in an elevator.

I am hoping that the great reveal for Summer happens when she is 'snooping' through her father's stuff, like she is always prone to do. Snooping on Avery, snooping on Noah; and finds the paternity results. Hopefully, this will spark Nick's memories, and Jack can be re-united with his daughter. Maybe control of Newman Enterprises can somehow be thrown into the mix, with 'Summer's Trust Fund' or something like that, being the deciding vote.

IMO, Jill is a good producer. The shows that she produces are not horribly written or full of untalented actors. Jill's vision for a soap though doesn't always connect to long time soap viewers. Jill likes to bring in new faces, instead of feature the characters on the canvas. She isn't attached to them, like soap fans are. Steve is a good actor and Jill was smart to hire him. She just needs to find a balance between hiring new actors and utilizing long time fan favorites.

Jamey that aint gonna happen! lol A friend of mine said oh maybe patrick wilson and I said the same thing - aint going to happen. I think the best pick for the role would be someone who was on primetime but has been out of the game for awhile. Thats what made me think of Dean Winters - hes an awesome actor and he doesnt seem to have all that much going on work wise. I would love to see what you might come up with - sort of like a half dozen people you think could play the role and would potentially be available. ie: tom cruise is not coming to gh to play the role of Jason morgan lol.

Or Jamey do you think they should go forward with natalie/john/sam or sam/aj/liz and forget all about jason?

@EET With Prospect Park b ack in play, we can forget about Natalie coming to Port Charles. We might also be losing John, Todd and Starr. Here's hoping Vicki Dummer is fighting like hell to make sure that won't happen, but Natalie is pretty much off the table.

One thing GH could do is bring Michael Easton back as his Port Charles character Caleb. They don't have to play the vampire angle, other than by having Lucy freaked out by him. He could simply be a mysterious, former rock god with designs on Sam for some reason or another.

I think Sam vs. Liz is gold for GH. Lord knows we've gotten tons of mileage out of their rivalry on this site! Pitting them against one another for AJ could be smart, but I would want it to be slow and organic.

One of my dream fantasies to reignite the Sam/Liz feud is for Sam to fall for Steven Lars. Since snorefest Scott Reeves is out, this could finally happen with a viable, virile actor in the part. Michael Park, anyone?

Steve and Sam could bond when he saves Danny from a bout of viral meningitis. He would also feel guilty about the role his loopy mother played in keeping Sam and his "late" cousin Jason from their child.

Liz would no doubt object to her brother falling for Sam, and would scheme to keep them apart. Just before Sam and Steven consummate their romance, I'd have Jeff Webber return to town. Alexis would take one look at him and have an OMG moment, flashing back to a sultry affair she embarked on as a teen girl, with a young pre-Med student from upstate New York, who was vacationing in Greece with his parents! Tongue

Pretty, pretty, pretty please no Sam vs Liz.. I hate that fan war.. I would be open to Liz and AJ- however I would like them to explore more of her latest break down.. Then like EET said have a real relationship with AJ where she chooses him first and he wants to always choose her first free of Jason feelings. They never explored her basically saying she felt like she couldn't cope to Jason. Then he was all Sam, Sam, Sam.. Then he never followed her out when they were in the hospital together with Sam and baby just to say hey are you all right.. It was like Liz's emotional journey ended there..

For my Sam I just love watching her and Danny! If they are not gonna recast Jason I could go with some McBam!!

Does anyone know if Frank and Ron were suppose to write for PP?? How does this change the writing for OLTL and GH??

No more Liz vs Sam. Just.let.it.go!

I hate that SBu leaving the show means no more Liason, however, if it means Liz gets a hot romance and story then I can deal with it.

Dr. Jeffrey Webber needs to come home for the 50th anniversary.

Maybe Steve's wife is tired of him being around the house and told him to go back to work? At any rate, GH is no longer focused on a few characters which RC discusses in his current interview with Michael Fairman.

Jamey im sticking with i cant believe abc would extend prospect parks air date without getting SOME concession. I may be dead wrong, but they could do an awesome half hour show that focuses on clint, vicki, bo, nora, matthew, destiny, dorian, jessica and even bring back maybe kevin joey and kelly with actors that we have seen or totally new actors if they arent interested.I dont think that PP loses that much by sharing or even flat out releasing the characters that have already been referenced/seen on GH. Given that its a half hour format I dont see how they seriously manage the whole cast anyway, so I think that makes sense. Ive just never seen a corporate parent give up something for nothing.

Oh and I take it from your suggestions re: sam and liz that you dont think they should recast. Im on the flip side - the writers have twisted these women in a pretzel over jasons salami for what feels like a century and with no resolution im suddenly suppose to buy that liz or sam would boink jasons BROTHER?? all sorts of ewwww on that one. I could see them picking someone else like patrick or john or steven but wouldnt they both be thinking wow jason would just HATE me with his nearly carbon copy brother. If jason came back and was all LIZ LIZ LIZ or was all SAM SAM SAM I could then see the other one doing exactly what jasamm said - jason put me second or made me share and he has killed any feeling I once had. Then yeah, aj with one of the them becomes viable.

Im not really interested in jeff webber unless its richard dean anderson. Im not sure where he fits in and for my money i would rather keep robert on the canvas. I would love to find out that stavros or mikkos had alexis hypnotized so that she didnt remember her long ago love affair with an undercover robert scorpio. And if we are looking for viable love interests for alexis for some alexis/shaun angst, I would much prefer scott baldwin or kevin collins or ric lansing back (again unless its RDA in the role, esp. now that VI is off the table.) heck why couldnt jax see her with new eyes or we find out that jerry has been hypnotized all the way back to the pre- metro court days. Certainly if todd and victors mother could replace one with the other jerry could have been brainwashed as well.

@EET

I understand your point about loyalty, but I don't think that always applies. Especially when it comes to contracts, corporations, and ratings. If a company wants to cut costs, they will cut people in a heartbeat. As an example, no one in the company cared when they fired RH. They don't care how long they have worked for the company, how good they are or anything. It all boils down to what the person in power wants. I understand that maybe SB was upset that he wasn't top dog anymore, but I feel that both sides were playing hardball.

Ultimately, if an employee has the chance to do what is best for them, I say go for it. If the shoe were on the other foot, the execs would have done the same without blinking. Loyalty goes out the window these days when it comes to what is most cost effective.
