General Hospital: Perkie's Observations

Connie and Kristina worry, as Steve and Liz desperately attempt to save Trey. However, when Connie and Kris begin fighting, they get distracted. Liz tries to break them up, but Steve puts a stop to everything when he eventually tosses them both out.

Starr’s upset Johnny has been lying to her for months. She was even starting to feel sorry for him, because she could see the pain in his eyes.  Michael comforts her, but his attitude changes when Starr mentions Connie. He’s quick to point out Connie is far from innocent, and thinks she should not to feel sorry for her.  Starr feels like the pain from the day of the accident is returning, and Michael wants her to go home and rest. Starr refuses, because they have to be there for Trey.

Alexis and Shawn are enjoying some quality time together, when Kristina calls to inform them of the accident.

A drunken Sonny dreams Kate has come back to him.  He wakes up to find himself alone, until Alexis phones and asks him to meet her at the hospital.

Carly calls Johnny a liar and a hypocrite for trying to place blame on Todd as well.  She starts to walk away, but stops when Johnny admits Todd knew the truth all along. He continues, and states they were blackmailing each other, since Todd knowingly switched the babies.  Carly doesn’t believe him, until Johnny recalls what his goons saw on that very day. Todd tries to deny it, but Carly sees through the lies.

In the waiting room, Kris is angry with Connie for making things worse.  Connie declares she’s Trey’s mother.  Kris says Connie is supposed to care for Trey, and Connie claims Kris knows nothing about her feelings for her son.   Connie doesn’t believe Kristina’s declaration of love for Trey. In turn, Kris blames Connie for causing the accident.  The two struggle until Alexis and Sonny show up and separate them.

Kristina updates her parents on Trey’s condition, and Alexis takes her away.  Sonny puts his differences aside with Connie for a second, and checks to see how she's doing. Connie sobs they wouldn’t let her see Trey and hugs Sonny. She asks him not to let her go.  He calls her Kate, and she becomes enraged. She wonders how he could think she wouldn’t have the same feelings as Kate for her son, and storms off.

Carly begins to walk away, but Todd stops her.  She tells him she would have forgiven him if she’d known the truth about the baby switch. However, he wasn’t honest with her, and that changes everything.  Todd remembers he told her he wasn’t a good person. Carly understands, but it doesn’t change the fact he lied to her face. She feels like an idiot for believing in him, and pouring her heart out.  Todd calls Carly the first friend he’s had, and wants to make it up to her.

Carly asks what Starr would think if she knew Todd was hiding the truth, and did nothing.  Starr overhears, and demands to know if her father knew the entire time.  Todd says he can explain, but Starr storms off.  Michael is upset on Starr’s behalf.  Todd tells Carly that Johnny was going to send him to prison with his knowledge.

Dante asks about Anthony, and Johnny promises to tell him everything. Dante arrests Todd, as well as Johnny, and takes them both down to the station.  At the station, he places the men in the same cell, despite Johnny’s protests.  Todd claims Johnny always wanted to be a martyr, and shed his guilt. Todd wonders why he was dragged down with Johnny.

Starr and Michael check on Trey, but Liz kicks them out.  Kristina and Connie return, as Steve emerges from the room. He informs the women that Trey has passed away.

Lyndsay Morgan really stepped up her game in those scenes with K-Sul today.

I thought the same thing, missmuffet41. I hope that was her breaking through an imaginary wall to become an, um, less restrained actress. I thought they both worked off of each other well.

Is it just me or does Steve seem like the WORST doctor ever!!??
And for the love of god please give Elizabeth Webber a story that's more then a glorified extra. If I have to put up with characters like Star,Kristina, Britt and Sabrina I would like to be getting something in return.
As for the rest of the show, meh. Although I did laugh out loud when Carly said something like "if there's one thing im not its a hypocrite" HA!!
For some reason I'm really rooting for Johnny. Im zero percent upset that he killed Stars family. I feel worse for him then I do for her. Does that make me a bad person?? I mean it was an accident...
Hey Sonny, please take off some of that blush, it's very un-mob-like.

I will give it to the writers for making the characters of Connie and Kristina fight over their love for Trey. But sadly, their arguments for their individual love were shot down by the other with their arguments for how the other wasn't there for him or 'it's just a month' lines.

Where Connie or Kate is concerned... I had wished that we would be those epic scenes that we always see on soaps where the "good" personality pushes through when tragedy strikes and wins out in the end. But, as I have been saying since this DUD... I mean D.I.D... story started, Connie is the original and Kate is the alternate so yesterday just proved it.

The TODD reveal in the baby switch and Johnny revealing it was priceless! I absolutely loved it because I have never liked the character of Todd, whether on OLTL played by either actor or on General Hospital. ANd it all stems from the fact that Todd committed gang rape and brutalized the grandmother of his granddaughter and the writers have written this character for years as if women would want him.

(Would love for one female character to discover after a date with him or a kiss that he is a rapist, a registered sex offender and that the character says that although he "paid his due to society" by going to prison, that morally she can't be with a man like that. He disgusts her. Because a woman... all my female friends... would say that or be disgusted by a man like that. I just wish)

Again, I know Luke did the same to Laura but Luke changed because of Laura and although he does illegal things like stealing diamonds and money, etc. its more that he is a thrill seeker (and to facilitate Tony Geary's vacation) but in the end he is a good guy, even the hero sometimes. Whereas, Todd committed the crime and continued to commit crimes and selfish acts, under both actors, ever since the rape. He has remained an extremely selfish and destructive man/character. I just can't get over ANY WOMEN... even Carly who had a mobster husband and hitman best friend... falling for him.

My biggest gripe, though, with the entire episode where Todd was involved is the way Carly took it. The fact that Todd lied to her about his involvement should be less than the pure fact that Todd took her best friend's child and switched it with his ex-wife's dead child. Or the fact that Todd lied to his OWN daughter and hid the fact that Johnny was responsible for the deaths of Starr's boyfriend and daughter... Todd's granddaughter.

It would have been a better use of the ULTRA talented and extremely gorgeous Laura Wright if they had Carly arguing those plot points and not the fact that she said "I could forgive you switching babies but the fact that you lied to me that you didn't do it, I can't move past!" WHAT?!!! So it's OK to switch a baby BUT don't lie to me about doing it?!

Sure, if the kid was just Sam's and not Jason's I would understand that argument because Carly and Sam don't care for one another. But it was Jason's child. Jason told Carly (or I believe he did) that he would have raised the child believing it was his even if it wasn't. It should have mattered to Carly, as well, that Todd hid the fact that Johnny was responsible for his granddaughter's death because of Carly's love for her own children and the fact that her son Michael is dating Starr and Carly likes her.

Also, Carly is friends with Blair now.

This episode with Carly would have been better served if Carly argued the points for other's in this storyline and not her selfish motives of being lied to by Todd. It would have been amazing as Starr discovered that Todd knew everything about Johnny and she ran away, that it was Carly... a mother... told Todd to shut the hell up and that she ran after Starr to console her and not Michael. And as Todd was being FREELY allowed to walk out of the hospital without handcuffs by one cop that we see Carly pick up the phone and call Blair to reveal the truth. Honestly, the show needs Blair now more than they needed her to reveal that Alcazar and Tomas may be the same person when the actor playing both roles wasn't on the show.

The dramatic pay-off of Blair being there to call out Todd on this coupled with Starr disowning him over this HUGE secret and Carly dumping Todd would have made for a greater story for Todd that might involve redemption down the road.

But no, from the promos, it's Carly's mea-culpa to everyone that she was wrong and lied to and NOT anything else.

MISSED OPPURTUNITY even though the acting was SPOT on yesterday by all... well, except Steve Reeves who acted the same in his desperate attempt to save Trey's life as he did in proposing to Olivia or in any other scene he ahs ever been in on the show. He has to be the DULLEST actor on this show.

AND GIVE Rebecca Herbst a HUGE STORY!!!! My god, the fans saved her job a couple of years ago after she was fired and the writers and the new regime don't see HOW enormously popular the ACTRESS and the character are?!!

Ratings may be up but it's proof that SOAPS still don't know how to truly cater to the fans the way we want, ask for and even beg!

It's a HUGE double-standard to give Luke a pass but still hold Todd's feet to the fire. Besides, Luke drove drunk and killed Jake, which is unforgivable, in my opinion.

Rape is a horrible, unforgivable crime. But this is television and in order for a popular actor to stay on, allowances must be made. Even if they don't entirely make sense to real people. In Todd's case, it was a long time ago, a lot has happened since and Carly is the queen of bad choices, so I don't find it unbelievable that they would be together.

I actually thought that her reaction made sense given she was a women burned twice. I think she was right in saying that she would have been mad if he had told her the truth in the beginning. However, I think she would have come around given that Todd's reason was not malicious as Heather's reason. He was desperate and fell for Heather's statement that Sam didn't want her child. I think Carly would have came around. But now it's not only Todd's deed but the fact that he had covered up and would have continued had Johnny not confessed.

Going to have to agree with this! I've watched Todd over the years at various levels of repentance for his crimes, whereas, Luke never faced any criminal charges for vehicular homicide after killing Jake. We spent months watching Luke behave in disgusting ways and there was little focus on Jake's death and Liz's pain. Heck, had Luke spent a few months in prison while Tony Geary went on personal vacation but NO. I find Luke's crimes because he never faced punishment far worse than Todd's crimes. At least Todd has gone on trial, went to prison, lived in a town where NO one forgot/forgiven he raped Marty and he was held captive for 8 years by his psychotic mother!

Admittedly, I much prefer Todd Manning/Roger Howarth over Luke Spencer/Tony Geary.

Regarding this episode. Meh. I truly hope all of the characters featured now are backburnered for a long, long time after the last two weeks. It's out-of-character for Carly to state to Todd she "would have forgiven him" for keeping Jason's child away from him. Carly's undying devotion to Jason is her defining trait!

I give kudos to Kelly Sullivan and thought she was pretty good. The rest of the actors left me flat as usual.

Alexis/Shawn have to be the anti-sex. My goodness. They actually have negative-chemistry. Nancy Lee Grahn had more chemistry with whatever food she was eating than the very attractive, shirtless man in bed next to her. I actually resent this pairing. Give it up, turn it loose! Shawn could/should leave and I could care less. Alexis needs more to do than be the mother of far less interesting characters.

Good point Robertscorpio - I did not see it that way.

I for one thought too that Carly stating should would have forgiven him was a little hollow. I mean Jason was truly the only man Carly believed in so for her to be so willy-nilly and say that she could have forgiven him pissed me off.

I love Johnny and I for one am thrilled that this secret is finally out, now if suddenly he becomes the only person sent away to prison I will be beyond ticked. I mean this is the town where everyone walks.

I still felt that LM's performance was hard to swallow, her trying to emote left me cold.

I could have sworn Sonny was wearing lipstick

Now on to one more little secret - I want to know what happens when Michael finds out that Starr knew that Daddy really did switch those babies.

And throw my name into the list of those who want a story for Liz

Thanks for the recaps Perks but I have to say the dialog is turning me off Carly saying she would forgive Todd for keeping Jason's child away from him? No friggin way this is total bull she would walk through broken glass for Jason Morgan and would turn on Todd in heartbeat for crossing him.

Still no story for Elizabeth Webber I have to wonder why Ron is sticking up his finger to this actress' character and her fans. Its been more than enough time to give her a story e.g. the Nurses Ball she isn't even leading that storyline a newbie from nowhere is...Sabrina. This is quite disappointing that he continues Fron's legacy of not investing in her as an actress, her character's fans. No more excuses Ron.

I'm not sure what I was more turned off by, Alexis and Shawn and their non-chemistry or the fact that Alexis actually craves meatloaf, cheese and cranberry sauce?! Gross! And really Alexis, you are supposed to be a super lawyer and you are sleeping upstairs with the hired help of Kelly's Diner? You could do so much better!

Also, the baby-switching was bad enough, but will Carly (or anyone else) find out that Todd knew about Jason's paternity of Daniel all along? Wouldn't Carly's head explode knowing that Jason could have known that he was his biological son before he died?

We get it Starr, you are devastated, but shut up already. You are dreadful when something bad happens to you and we have to suffer through it. She seemed to care more about the fact that Johnny bought out her singing contract than anything else.

And how about having someone (anyone!) go see how Ellie is doing! She is, after all, the only person innocently non-involved in that whole car chase/accident thing that happened. Self-involved much, people??

Otherwise, keep the action coming...

And is Robert still laying on the floor with Robin tied to the bed?? Please come back to this story....

Damn you, Ron, for messing up my CARTODD! They were one of the only DECENT couples on this show. Dang you, dang you to heck........ Angry Angry

Starr just TOTALLY grates my nerves. It's sad when I don't even feel sorry for this character, who lost her family. But between Kristen Alderson's horrific attempts at channeling dramatic emotion and her cringe-inducing facial expressions, I found her dramatic scenes with Johnny to be laughable.

If she's not whining she's........well, she's always whining. And she has NO chemistry with Michael. Both Chad Duell and Kristen Alderson give off that JAILBAIT vibe, so seeing them doing the nasty seems....well, nasty and inappropriate. And please stop making Chad Duell take his shirt off. It's clear that he's uncomfortable with it.

Connie AND Kate onscreen at the same time? How did I get so freaking lucky? Ron, your pet projects are draining me. Please bring back Megan Ward and normalize Kate again.

Where are Anna/Robert/Helena/Felicia/Mac???

I am sick of these same LAME DUCK characters eating up the screen day in and day out..

And this Kristina chick needs to go. Lindsay Morgan is abominable.

So much for LOVE in the afternoon!

I think people are misunderstanding Carly and what she actually said/meant.

She told Todd that she would have been angry with him about the switch but would have understood why he did and would have forgiven him BECAUSE she can't hold him to a higher standard than she holds her mobster ex husband or her killer BFF.

That's also the reason behind her 'not a hypocrite' comment. Cartini's version of Carly has not really been allowed to whitewash Sonny and Jason's sins like Fruza's Carly did. so by that context, she's not a hypocrite when it comes to someone like Todd, doing something terrible, like switch Jason's baby.

What she seems angriest about is the lie. He knows how upset she was with johnny, thinking he'd lied to her for months and she specifically asked Todd for one thing, the truth, and he didn't give it to her, even after they slept together.

RE: LM/Kristina: I thought she was terrible. I didn't feel Kristina's grief or anger or fear. I saw LM trying to act all of those things and failling.

By contrast, I thought KSul did a good job, in the scene with Sonny, where she finally lets go of her fear, only to have him, in a sense, reject her for Kate.

I agree with everyone regarding the non-chemistry with Shalexis. Alexis had way more chemistry with McBain then she does here.

Alexis and Shawn are not working. I think FV is trying to do the interracial dating thing with the characters exception for Molly and TJ I do not think it would work out. West coast actors are not as relaxed with diversity as East coast actors. It is the truth. They can all be friends but the whole mixing thing does not work on GH. It did on OLTL but GH is another environment.

@katehoward: I'm not sure I'd go as far as to make the generalizations on how geography and interracial dating interact (especially in 2012.) You may very well be on to something (I've lived on both coasts, in metropolitan cities), I just think the actors do not have chemistry. In her entire time on GH, Nancy Lee Grahn has never had chemistry with romantic/sexual partners, save Sonny. She has languished on the canvas for years and instead of writers writing her a worthwhile story, she's been the "talk-to" of her lame daughters and Sonny. NLG is capable of so much more but Alexis has not had the story. Shawn has never been a defined character and while physically attractive, I happen to think Sean Blakemore is not a very good actor. Rather than develop the characters independently, the writers probably thought: "Ooh, this will be fun" AND we'll satisfy the fans clamoring for Alexis to get laid AND promote diversity. It's all been a giant fail because while the intention is probably good, the writing is lazy, the acting anemic and there being no spark.

Something fishy happened behind the scenes during this show. I thought so yesterday, but I'm convinced after seeing today's show.

Did you notice how they showed a shot of Steven Webber coming out of Trey's room but they never showed him again when he told everyone that Trey was gone? They just had a shot of his elbow as he said,"I'm sorry".

Today, suddenly it's Patrick telling everyone that Trey is gone.

I think something happened during the filming of that scene, and now Steven Webber is gone. Hmmm... Oh, to be a fly on the wall of THAT set!

I think you hit the nail on the head here. This is not the first time a soap has had a character with this sort of past either. Jack on Days raped Kayla when he was married to her. It was played off as “oops I didn’t know that was rape” and then never mentioned again - same with Jake on AW as well as others. Luke’s actions were referred to as a seduction and not rape for many years. Todd’s not a great guy by any means but at least with his character we’re not getting jerked around and his actions have never be covered up.

That all being said I really like RH and the complexities he brings to the character. I also love the chemistry between him and LW. I think that the characters pair together well and am looking forward to hopefully seeing more of their relationship unfold.
