The citizens of Salem, U.S.A. will live to fight another season! NBC has renewed Days of Our Lives through Sept. 2014. NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke announced the news today, two days ahead of DAYS' 12,000th episode set to air this Friday.

“We are thrilled to announce that Days of Our Lives is not going anywhere. It is NBC's longest-running drama series by far and is one of the most historic brands in television,” said Salke in a press release. “We commend Ken Corday and the entire creative team on continuing to keep the stories and characters fresh, exciting and relevant year after year.”

DAYS, which is co-owned by Corday Productions and Sony Pictures Television, has been a part of the Peacock's daytime lineup since its premiere in 1965. Sony TV's Prexy Steve Mosko praised the soap's "dedicated fan base" when discussing the renewal.

"Days of Our Lives has maintained a loyal and dedicated fan base for more than four decades and continues to reach a new generation of viewers,” said Mosko. “We appreciate NBC’s support over the years and, as the show celebrates this significant milestone, we are thrilled that the show will continue to be a part of the NBC family.”

Ken Corday—whose parents, the late Ted and Betty Corday, created the sudser—also weighed in on the news.

“After so many years in the homes and hearts of our loyal fans, I’m both humbled and elated to say it’s 2013 and we’re still going strong,” said Corday. “I am equally proud that the sense of family which my mom and dad established in our show 48 years ago, is still what drives it today. As we celebrate our 12,000th episode with an amazing cast and great support from our network, we look forward to what’s yet to come!”

Congrats to the cast and crew!

This is great news! And I agree, thank you Eileen Davidson for this! Now to really fix the show to make sure it lives past 9/14! First off get rid of Gabi and Daniel, they do not work out. TPTB realized that with Madison and her ex-husband so why not these two?

And if the show is still going to film 3 months ahead, please make sure not to have characters in coats in the town square in the summer months! It's always on one of the tv's at my gym and it was so embarrassing to see characters covered up and in coats during the hot summer!

Why only a year....why not renew the show for 5 year...not to be a downer here. But I think they will cancel this show in 2015.

Wonderful news!!!

Though I do have to say, I wouldn't have been surprised if they had cancelled the show, either. It is in pretty bad shape.

I agree with ChrisGa - Eileen Davidson is almost single-handedly steering this ship. Thank God at least she is there!

I also loved someone's idea that Nicole's baby is in fact alive and being secretly raised by Kristen! That would be perfect - Kristen would do that because she never had any children. And the child is a DiMera so it would all be in the family. Hopefully someone at NBC is taking notes, it would be about time they did.

Here's hoping they somehow (magically) get it right, soon!

So its great that the cast and crew (minus the writing team) still have jobs, but what is the point of renewing the show if they don't plan on fixing it? Days is terrible right now and the blame lies with Gary Tomlin. MarDar were moving Days in the right direction, everything wasn't perfect but things were clicking, Tomlin came in and destroyed everything that was working on Days. For this show to survive in the long term they need a new head writer at the very least. I also think the show needs a visual makeover as well, the sets are all either very old or cheap looking.
