Frank Valentini Teases 50th Anniversary Plans For General Hospital

In an interview with TV Guide, General Hospital’s Frank Valentini dishes about his plans with Ron Carlivati for the ABC soap’s 50th Anniversary celebration.

TV Guide Magazine: What can we expect to see at the Ball?

Valentini: There will be some big story reveals over a few days. We're now doing the sketches for the set and costume designs, which are going to be really exciting.  We'll have the characters sing and dance. We'll of course have (inaugural Dancing With the Stars champ) Kelly (Monaco, who plays Sam) dance. We might even bring (her DWTS partner) Val Chermkovskiy back.

Valentini also responds to questions about the possible guest returns of fan favorites, such as: Bobbie Spencer (Jackie Zeman), Audrey Hardy (Rachel Ames), Alan’s ghost (Stuart Damon), Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson), Nikolas (Tyler Christopher), Lesley Webber (Denise Alexander) and Scotty Baldwin (Kin Shriner).

Visit TV Guide for more on Valentini’s plans for General Hospital’s 50th Anniversary.

People will say what they want about Frank and Ron, but I always come back to this: they ARE trying.

Ron & Frank should start their own production company! Hell I don't know them from Adam but I would invest in these two! GH knows what they're doing, and this is come from a long time Y&R viewer... I wish Josh & Jill would take notes!

Yes, RC and Frank brought back plenty of OLTL fan faves.

For all the Cartini nah-sayers I have just one thing to remind you of prior their reign... The Lady in White storyline... nuh said (cuz I'm still seeing a therapist to help erase those bad memories). Tongue

Yes. Three. And with them, extra eyes (ratings). Sorry to impose.

Frank and Ron are amazing and GH is the best soap on the air, no contest! There is nothing I don't like on GH, I even like Connie!

I don't like that the Kelly DWTS connection is a primary concern on a GH anniversary celebration.

Isn't David Fumero married to an actress who played his cousin and not his sister?

Question was asked about Tristan Rogers and the answer was about Robin and Kimberly.

Dude blows smoke a lot. I still worry.

Since they want Jonathon Jackson as Lucky, I would like Greg Vaughn as a recast of Jason.

GHvetfan, it will be a bit difficult for Greg V to play Jason since he is already playing Eric Brady on Days. Not sure what your question about David and Melissa Fumero has to do with anything. Yes she was his cousin on OLTL.

I think liason4real was commenting about the fact that Cartini brought back fan faves for the OLTL finale (but I could be wrong).

I answered my own question after I read the interview. Yes Valentini made a minor mistake but I think we knew what he was talking about.

TV Guide Magazine: Maybe you can reunite Kristina and Jack in real life?
Valentini: (Laughs) Stranger things have been known to happen. Hey, on One Life to Live, I introduced David Fumero (who played Cristian Vega) and his wife, who played his sister.

Yes, my previous comment was about OLTL and not GH. OLTL brought in fan faves for their 40th anniversary and when the show was cancelled. Tina and Cord got married, again! Yeah!

I dont care where Greg V is. My point was he got the shaft on GH to SB. I would love to have him back as Jason.

Jackie Zeman doesn't look THAT bad in this picture. I only wonder what took Cartini so long to ask her back.

All of you know that if the previous team was in charge, this anniversary would be handled with any combo of a hostage/explosion/shooting/kid getting hit by car storyline.

I also read the article and it would be great if Denise Alexander can come back and get a few scenes with Leslie Charleston. I loved their rivalry back in the day.

^^ I have to agree with this. Not always a fan of the style of writing and the casting leaves much to be desired BUT there is no doubt in my mind that this creative team is trying to make this show not only viable but successful. I can't say the same about the showrunners at DAYS and B&B.

The 50th anniversary is a huge deal and I cannot think of any current showrunners I'd want in charge of the event (although, I was not impressed by how OLTL's 40th anniversary was handled with the time-traveling through the TV set, Tina in Mendorra, etc.) Hopefully, some fan favorites could return for short-stints and meaningful moments. Laura Spencer is coming back! It would be great to see Lucky and Nikolas for a turn (Ethan is best forgotten.)

LIW was the previous regime's baby, but yes RC is reponsible for the mess it became. I always wonder what was suppose to happen in that storyline before the HW was replaced?

At least Kelly can dance, and it's a talent they could use at the Nurse's Ball. If only they would take advantage of Brandon Barash and Bradford Anderson's music talent. Too bad Steve Burton and Scott Reeves are both gone, or they could literally have a Port Chuck act on the show. Also, if they bring back Jonathan Jackson, could have him sing too since he has his own band.

This is all sounds good if they execute it correctly. I have noticed that the new GH team has the best of intentions but isn't the best at packing the most effective creative punch.

All the names above are great, but a couple more should be considered as well for short stints....Sean, Tiffany and it would be nice if Jessie Brewer's passing in 1991 was referenced. To this day GH's original nurse has never has her passing referenced.

I'd love to have them mention Amy Vining, as well as nurse Jessie. I don't think they ever addressed Shell Kepler's death/Amy's absence. And Sean and Tiffany are sorely missed.

OMG! I LOVE TIFFANY! It would be so cool to see the her and Sean visit and a reunion of the Ice Princess team, Luke, Laura, Robert, and Tiffany.

@Wiggum I watched her on the YT today about her surgery stemming from bad meds in 2011, if that is what your referencing? I also read she was a caregiver for her mother in TN in 2012 and her mother passed. So I don't think she is too ill if she can care for her mother. But who knows if she wants to act again since her surgery but she has been on camera.
