CONFIRMED: Susie Bedsow Horgan and Thom Racina to Head Write Prospect Park’s One Life to Live!

It's official. Susie Bedsow Horgan and Thom Racina have been named head writers for Prospect Park's upcoming online version of One Life to Live. Horgan reportedly signed her deal on Wednesday, with Racina giving his John Hancock the next day.

While I am not familiar with Horgan's work (Here's an excellent bio from our friends at We Love Soaps), Racina is one of my favorite all-time soap scribes. Not only did his larger-than-life stories help take General Hospital to the top of the ratings in the 80's, but he also fashioned (along with Leah Laiman and Sheri Anderson) the 80's supercouple era of Days of Our Lives.

I hope Prospect Park and ABC Daytime manage to keep General Hospital, One Life to Live and All My Children in the same universe. Racina and GH's current head writer Ron Carlivati have similar sensibilities. The mind boggles at the type of kick-ass crossover stories they could accomplish!

The big question remains, why didn’t they put all this effort into these shows years back? It seems now a light bulb has gone on and someone out there realizes these shows are valuable and deserve the attention they are now getting. The stupidity at that level just blows my mind. Seems like PP is doing this right from the looks of it. All that is left are the actors, sets, and crew. Any talk yet of getting AMC and OLTL onto a cable network?

Okay Susie was on my list of good writers for oLTL. Plus she was EP of OLTL from 1994-96 and Breakdown writer from 1988-94

Thom has a great resume. I didnt think of him cause I thought he was done writing daytime.

    IMHO excellent choices

Although a cable network hasn’t been named yet, I believe the plan it to have the episodes air on cable following their online airing.

If Thom and Frank have similar writing styles than I’m worried!!! I don’t want to see no stupid Sabrinas and Britts walking around and my faves pimping new stupid characters

@logan_echolls: Well I have one of two suggestions for them. Because they will need it on this one. Either bring back the Gray’s with offspring or bring back Gannon’s to represent the African American community. These were two most popular African American families in the show’s history. It would also be good if they had Carla Gray join in to help usher in the younger set of the Gray’s.

I feel like we have fallen through into some alternate universe. Based on this news (get some established writers from the past instead of recycling the same three names from soap to soap) and the interviews Valentini has done (bringing vets back, readjusting the moral compass on the show). It’s very strange, but exciting.

My first exposure to Thom Racina was via the great interview done with DC. At the time, I was like please write because your love of the genre is so infectious. I had the same thought when I heard the aforementioned interview with Susie Bedsow Horgan. Here is the link for anyone that wants to listen and I hope, hope that PP really get their publicist act together and make their writers/execs available to a site like DC. Those round-table interviews are definitely some of my favorite DC episodes.

This is their opportunity to revolutionize these shows. Very much in the way OLTL was when Gotlieb and Malone were at the helm in the early to mid 90′s.

Horgan was apart of that era and Racina was apart of GH’s golden era. It’s time to take OLTL and bringing it back to that quality, but with a modern and sophisticated update.

    They can do this!
