Log in to Reply brettyboy January 16, 2013 DAYS deserves to win,Will’s coming out story has been excellent, far better than BB’s half baked attempt. Log in to Reply soapbaby January 16, 2013 The GLAAD Media Awards are equivalent to the NAACP’s Image Awards…shallow, meaningless acknowledgement of representation regardless of the quality. How I wish GLAAD and NAACP would focus their work of advocating for legislation rather than pander to the lowest common denominator. Log in to Reply lostfan January 16, 2013 Days so deserves it!! Will’s coming out and relationship AND love scenes with Sonny are groundbreaking, especially since Will is core character and part of 2 core families. B&B’s story was with charcters on periphery–nothing much Log in to Reply Camp is not a sustainable model January 16, 2013 @soapbaby: would say with my limited knowledge of Glaad that you are right. Because like the NAACP they will nominate anyone for just having a few episodes. There was no real story on B&B. So I am scratching my head as to why they were nominated? Log in to Reply LoveVillians January 17, 2013 I don’t watch Days, but from what I read they are doing a good job. B&B dropped the ball. What a joke? They don’t deserve an award. The story came and gone so fast. GH is trying with Felix. I like this character. He is fun and sweet. Need Lucas to come back for them to be together. Log in to Reply bottomchef January 17, 2013 hollywood smugly congratulates itself for being “tolerant” w/ these glaad “awards” w/c are a joke. hollywood screams against homophobia but is openly racist to people of color and especially to Asian americans. of course it’s bec hollywood thinks the white lgbt community is a more “special” minority group compared to African americans and latinos and especially Asian americans! glaad “nominated” smash?! is glaad seriously that delusional?! ny based smash got rid of their 1 Asian romantic leading man who was not portrayed as your stereotypical asexual Asian american char. hollywood loves to portray Asian males as asexual yet who wrote the kama sutra again? billions from the Asian population yet they’re all asexual males according to “tolerant” hollywood. Typical hollywood racism. Asian americans are portrayed by hollywood as dorky and accented men who are often asexual. while hollywood hypersexualizes latinos and black americans w/ these high pregnancy rates. thus being white becomes the “norm” and the “ideal” w/c racist hollywood loves. it’s a form of social control to make racial minorities worship whites as the “standard”. it’s hollywood’s version of white supremacy. smash is being whitewashed even more by getting rid of 2 racial minority male chars and creating even more white chars! pathetic for an ny based tv show! white privilege has been around for centuries. it’s manifested thru hollywood’s institutionalized racism by suppressing the presence of racial minorities and removing racial diversity from tv shows like smash thru whitewashing. typical of trashy “art” from hollywood when heck even jesus was whitewashed on paintings! of course smash gets rid of dev and ellis who are the 2 racial minority males who were portrayed romantically but it keeps the gay chars and puts even more white chars. typical from “tolerant” hollywood: a majority white ny based tv show. smash’s ratings are blamed on the racial minority men and its rebooted to get rid of them. Dev was paired as the bf of the lead female char “acted” by horrid katherine mcphee. but of course the smash reboot gets rid of dev and pairs her w/ new white chars and w/ “bombshell’s” white director. Disgusting! Log in to Reply seanny January 17, 2013 Actually, there are plenty of other gay organizations for this. What GLAAD needs to focus on is combating the homophobia behind the scenes in liberal Hollywood. There’s lot of that to focus on. I often wonder if the reason why GLAAD nominates any obscure show for 2 seconds of LGBT content is because there is still very little of it onair or on film. Log in to Reply soapbaby January 17, 2013 Hi seanny. I am familiar with what GLAAD does and they promote pro-LGBT/anti-homophobic legislation beyond surveying the media. I am sure the media awards is there most high-profile event (just like NAACP) and I think it’s important but only as important as a realistic view of LGBT representation versus nominating any/every LGBT happening regardless of how small that representation was ie. B&B’s Karen & Dani.) I wish they focused on the impactful representation and the political aspect of the work. Giggles! More like too much lgbt representation. And of course majority of those chars have to be white lgbt people. cnn reported that only 3% of the us population identify as lgbt and they wouldn’t get that wrong bec the face of cnn is openly gay anderson cooper. hollywood gives too much priority tro lgbt chars and too much representation and yet they love to talk abt “realism” when explaining the lack of racial minority representation. typical hollywood bias. the following shows have lgbt representation w/c are mostly white lgbt chars and personalities: ahs. the new normal. modern family. revenge. true blood. person of interest. pretty little liars. b&b. days. y&r. oltl. amc. mad men. enlightened. downton abbey. plethora of reality tv shows and entertainment news tv shows. bravo tv. ellen degeneres. axed but still floundering on tv: blanderson cooper daytime talk show and emily owens. rather recently axed tv shows w/ white lgbt representation: desperate housewives. gcb. gg. ringer. heck glee alone has had the following lgbt chars: brittaney. santana. sandy. blayne. kurt. new gay guy for kurt. unique. sebastian. karofsky. that’s 9 alone and of course majority of them are white! it’s hilarious that gay people think hollywood “lacks” lgbt representation and it’s “homophobic” to gays. heck it’s advantageous to be a gay actor. anyone who follows entertainment knows bradley cooper and jeremy renner are gay. ferret face bradley cooper gets named consecutively people’s handsomest on its cover and now part of the new list. the film he’s best known for is racist towards African americans and Asian americans but it gets a sequel and propels him to the a list. jeremy renner’s ugly and short and definitely not a leading man yet he’s part of 3 franchises: bourne supremely ugly. mission improbable. revengers. if hansel and gretel is a hit then that’s 4 franchises for that troll! hollywood isn’t “homophobic” to white lgbt actors. it rallied around the gay guy from grey’s anatomy when washington uttered that slur. washington was fired from grey’s bec of that and his career hasn’t recovered. yet hollywood did nothing for Asian american actor rex who is openly gay from entourage. he publicly complained abt the discrimination he experienced from entourage w/c was worse bec it was homophobic and racist. yet hollywood did nothing bec being racist towards Asian americans is acceptable for hollywood. those “enlightened” hollywood whores love to talk abt diversity yet they bash Asian americnas w/ their lack of representation and racist representation and whitewashing. there are very few Asian american chars on tv and yet according to pew research Asian americans are the fastest growing group and make up 6% of the us population. that’s a lot more than lgbt representation yet there are far more white lgbt chars than there are Asian american chars. hollywood has influenced the culture to make it acceptable to mock Asian americans and bec people think of those students as “not american” but as foreigners bec hollywood loves feeding into the theme of whites being “all american” while Asian americans are the yellow peril who threaten whites and will conquer america. where are all the “it gets better” videos from hollywood for Asian american students? Asian american students are the most bullied grp according to huffington post but hollywood only cares abt gay bullying.
