HomeTVThe Young and The RestlessCreepy Fen Frames Jamie on The Young and the Restless! Luke Kerr January 16, 2013 The Young and The Restless, TV Recap 38 Comments Michael (Christian LeBlanc), Lauren (Tracey Bregman) and Paul (Doug Davidson) confronted Fen (Max Ehrich) about his behavior towards Jamie (Daniel Polo) and Summer (Haley King). Fen told his parents off, before storming out of their home. I really like Ehrich as Fen. He has totally mastered the Baldwin/Fisher crazy behind-the-eyes element of early Michael and Kevin (Greg Rikaart). Fen ended up at Crimson Lights, where Kevin told his nephew his petty behavior wasn’t appealing. Jamie was welcomed back at Michael and Lauren’s with open arms. When Fen learned Jamie would be living with them again, he decided to frame Jamie. Fen took one of the items off the mantel and put it in Jamie's bag, making it look like Jamie had stolen it from Michael and Lauren. Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) arrived home to be with Summer, and found Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Avery (Jessica Collins) together. Victor (Eric Braeden) told Victoria (Amelia Heinle) Billy (Billy Miller) wasn’t an asset in her fight for Newman Enterprises. Later, Victor went to Newman where he asked Adam if his son had been conning him. Billy and Adam (Michael Muhney) sparred in Victor’s old office. Billy told Adam to go to Paris and that he no longer made decisions at Newman. Adam said he couldn't go until things were resolved. At the cabin, Jack (Peter Bergman) started seeing his father’s ghost again. When John (Jerry Douglas) started giving him a hard time, Jack told him to leave. Jack later caught Victor’s investigator in the cabin trying to get into his tablet. The investigator covered, but Jack quickly asked if he was working for Victor. 38 Responses truthtakestime2000 January 16, 2013 good stuff. liking the show a lot right now. Log in to Reply Coffee_Junkie January 16, 2013 I don’t watch Y&R for the children of more interesting characters. Log in to Reply stoney07 January 16, 2013 I don’t think the writing is lazy. It’s Y&R. Victor and Jack will ALWAYS fight this way and I don’t see a problem with it. The bullying story, Jack’s addiction, etc…are all different twists for Y&R. Sure it’s been done before, but it’s being told in a different way. And frankly, GH is no better than Y&R despite what goes on on this site. A lot of other sites, and most people I know personally that watch soaps will agree. The show is better… Log in to Reply soapbaby January 16, 2013 I’m almost at the point of not even comparing Y&R and GH anymore because the shows are so vastly different. IMO, the shows should borrow what works on the other. Y&R excels on character development and crisp dialogue where GH excels at keeping the show fresh, exciting and completely plot-driven. At the end of the day, GH remains on my DVR because things happen on the show: good, bad and ugly. Y&R is so slow-moving that I can skip a week or two of the show and feel that I didn’t miss a thing. Slow-moving is not a bad thing but there’s a need for some movement on the story-front. Log in to Reply harlee490 January 16, 2013 [quote=rjm118]Two words: Lazy Writing. I’m sick & tired of people going out of their way to critize Y&R when you don’t even watch |( You can gloat over vampires, super villains from the cartoon network etc but like always after the novelty wears thin with these type of S|Ls (they always do sooner or later) then you will see GH drop…mark my words. It’s called respect but evidently you don’t respect other people’s taste to come and post something hateful because you are so insecure and sitting behind your computer. That’s not brave but sad. It says alot about you as person through your post(s)and I feel pity you. The CBS fans doesn’t rip each post about GH, which I would equally be upset. You can wish upon a star all you want because Y&R LIVES!! HA! Log in to Reply stoney07 January 16, 2013 ^^^I agree. The shows ARE totally different. I guess I’m more into slow moving character driven stuff. And while I agree, GH is exciting, I find it exciting for all the wrong reasons. But I can admit I’m biased because I wasn’t raised up on the ABC soaps at ALL. So when I tried to get into them, they were sooo different from the CBS soaps that I wasn’t interested. Even now that I’m watching GH, I just find most of it ridiculous. So for ME, Y&R is better, but I agree that they are so different that its really hard and pointless to even compare the two. Yet on most posts, people want Y&R to do what GH is doing, which I guess is bring back vets and put them in larger than life unbelievable unrealistic campy stories. That works for a certain group, but for others it doesn’t. And it’s kind of like people don’t understand that that’s not what Y&R is about. IT’s not what made Y&R number 1, and it definitely won’t KEEP Y&R at number 1. Log in to Reply soapbaby January 16, 2013 @stoney07: I think Y&R has the strongest identity of any soap. It’s place at #1 for so long supports this belief. Besides just being a horrible showrunner, Maria Arena Bell did her damnedest to dismantle the identity Y&R has had of being a thoughtful, elegant, slow-moving, character-driven serialized show. I know many here also disliked Lynn-Marie Latham’s reign but I don’t think she tried to change the identity of the show. Any way, my main point is that Y&R is set apart from other soaps because of it’s clear identity. GH is on the upswing because it has brought the fun back after a decade of Jill Farren-Phelps and Bob Guza taking the show to a depressing and sadistic show focused entirely on the mob. I personally enjoyed the 90’s Wendy Riche/Claire Labine years of GH the most in my entire time watching the show because the show told socially-relevant, gorgeously-written, humanistic drama. At least Frank Valentini/Ron Carvialti understand GH’s 80’s history, bringing back fan-favorites and really trying to give GH an identity. GH is often too campy and riddled with poor performances but the strong story and performances coupled with real movement for most stories keeps me coming back. The DAYS I loved as a kid in the 80’s exceeded at lush romance, high-action and intrigue with strong performances to boot. In the 90’s James Reilly came in and took the show to uber-campy, supernatural hijinks which much of the audience enjoyed. JR was not my cup of tea and I fatigued after a short whie of it. The show hasn’t found it’s footing since his reign. DAYS has no idea what the identity of the show is and at the very least the show is not very entertaining. At the end of the day GH and DAYS are malleable and can shift drastically with new headwriter/showrunner no matter the damage to the brand. Y&R (and B&B to an extent) have such a strong brand and viewer loyalty that is unmatched_ Bill Bell’S legacy. Y&R has a formula and while not always very exciting to me, I recognize the show as the show I respected. MAB/Hogan Sheffer/Scott Hamner really wrecked havoc with the show’s brand and I am willing to give this new regime time to work out the kinks because I do think they understand the show’s identity. Now, I do wish the stories had more life to them, real-drama, corporate intrigue, social-relevancy and sweeping romance (the African-Americans lusting after each other over at Jabot does not qualify as romance or even that interesting.) What I think Y&R can borrow from current GH is adding a bit more fun, humor and story movement. I think GH needs to borrow Y&R’s clear character development. In the past year, GH hasn’t developed their newer characters at all beyond one-dimensional caricatures. Y&R added a ton of new characters recently and each character was given a clear personality and motivation. I think all soaps should return to the idea of telling more socially-relevant stories like ATWT’s Margo’s rape, GH’s Robin contracting HIV or GL’s Lillian’s breast cancer. Log in to Reply bobbyew January 16, 2013 I am loving the show right now. I think the writing is great. The shots are great Cain and Lily today were great. I’m loving TGVN right now as always. Peter is great as well. Finn not so much the over acting needs to be toned down a bit then he will be great. I dont like him being a bully though Micheal and Lauren raised him better than that because of what they had been through. If Maria Arena hadn’t sent him to stay with Scottie he wouldn’t have this hat in him. Jack Crack is great and Billy running Newman is fabulous. That’s a slap in the face to everyone. I would like to see Billy Miller play Callie’s son on Dallas but he’s too old. Lily and Cane was great today. Every one is getting their right alotted amount of time so that it can become what GH is now and ensemble. Every one should be happy they are still on. Just sit back and enjoy the ride that each show has to bring. Whether its over the top, funny or dramatic. Be greatful we still have this genre. Very unimpressed with any of the newbies and the writing and why doesn’t the Executive Producer get a new picture taken? That one is scary. Log in to Reply TraceyAbbot101 January 17, 2013 I love Fenmore’s teeth….. reminds me of a sexy vampire….. bite me… Log in to Reply pferrando January 17, 2013 Not to keep beating a dead horse, IMO LML did not know Y and R or its fans at all. It didn’t look, sound, or follow the direction of the many years before she came on board. For Bloom to up and fire Kay and J Smith shows they wanted it to be a different show. I hated watching it but did so because of my devotion to Y and R. The first episode that was credited to MAB and Josh, I sighed with relief because the pace/look/feel of the show that I loved was back. Unfortunately the writing was uneven and just wrong by the time she left. Now that Josh is back writing I have faith in that aspect of the show. I have my concerns about JFP, but the show’s stories are its identity as much as its production. So my glass is at least half full. I don’t get GH, so I don’t watch or bad mouth it. I think I get an idea though when I see characters with vampire teeth. If you don’t watch Y and R, don’t try to critique it since you really don’t know its history. More than any other soap in history it maintained and was true to itself until LML took over. That was a lot of enjoyable soap watching for us. We just keep hoping it’s on its way back. I’m liking the younger characters, as they are bringing a much needed balance to the older set. Log in to Reply Dymedave75 January 17, 2013 Fenmore is a brat..he needs to go sit in a corner somewhere…. Log in to Reply pjc722 January 17, 2013 For this show to get true and exciting BUZZ, Jill and her team need to start looking at and coming up with GREAT GREAT storyline reasons why Dru has been missing for all these years and WITHOUT a leak to the press have it revealed in one of the MOST shocking reveals to date on any soap! Y&R needs Dru back to befriend Sharon, Spar with Phyllis, rekindle her love with Neil, be a mom to Lily and Devon, dislike Cane, battle Nikki and just be her all around GREAT TOUGH SELF on this show! Can you imagine the INTERNET buzz and the ratings bonanza there would be if on a Friday Neil goes to answer the front door to his apartment and standing on the other end is Dru and we see Neil’s shocked looked on his face and JUST BEFORE the credits roll, the elevator door opens up to see Lily and Devon pushing the twins in a stroller laughing as they get off the elevator. Dru turns to see her 2 kids and the camera fades to black on Lily’s shocked look as she sees her presumed dead mother! No commercial promos. No on air discussions about Dru and how everyone misses her leading up to the reveal. Just an awesome treat for fans who watch the show day in and day out for decades and years since Victoria Rowell left the series. And then the internet goes on fire with word she has returned and the ratings on Monday go THROUGH THE ROOF that she is back!!! It would be amazing and such a better turn for this show than all of the talented but NEW newbies now populating the series!!! DO IT JILL! It will pay off more than you know!!! Fen – a bog or wetland fed by mineral-rich water, which due to a lack of outflow, tends to stagnate, and become rank. Doesnt that describe Fen? Over-indulged by his parents, and due to the fact that he cant get it on with Summer, he has now become a freak. This guy is almost single-handedly holding together the whole Baldwin story-line. Cause Kevin and Chloe sure aint contributing. Drucilla Barber is not coming back, why keep talking about it? As far as the current Y&R, it’s not my favorite, but it is watchable. Josh G is a good writer, who finished up and cares about details a great deal. I find it very interesting about different sub-cultures of our society, and how Y&R is viewed. What each sub-culture likes about The Show, and what they don’t. How some sub-cultures adore the diva drama of someone like Nikki, and others think it is stupid, for example. You’re right about how people see Y&R because of the remaining soaps Y&R does have the most diverse fanbases. About Dru coming back…I think VR has just burnt to many brigdes in past. I would be SURPRISED (completely love it) if VR did return. It they want to bring back Dru if would have to be a recast…let the talent search and name dropping begin…personally I have felt for a long time for a recast that could play Dru is Renee Jones. Honestly I’m not sure who else could pull off a part like Dru? :~ Log in to Reply SoapArmageddon January 17, 2013 pjc722, I love your set-up for the Dru return. Obviously, it would only work if VR was the one in the part. A recast simply wouldn’t generate that much buzz. Log in to Reply pferrando January 17, 2013 A Dru recast would be hard for me to stomach, I’ll be honest. It took me a LONG time to warm up to recasts of Jack and Jill and Ashley…probably the biggest successes over the years. Others just failed. I still watch old You Tube clips of Brenda D. Even though I like Jess, Jill and Kay kept me tuning in every day. Log in to Reply hey mon January 17, 2013 Jill – The Deb Adair re-cast did not work. Jess Walton is actually better. Ashley – Brenda worked, Shari did not. Jack – Pete is better than Terry. John – Jerry was better than Brett Halsey. Phyll – Michelle is Red, Sandra Nelson is not. Lily – Davetta did a better job, but the Lane fans love Christil. No one else could play Drucilla. As soon as the poor gal started doing something we didnt like, wed demand she be fired. There would be people calling for her head from Day 1. And I wouldn’t trust my girl Victoria R. to not be adding fuel to the fire on Twitter and in interviews. That’s how she rolls. (This is completely unscientific, but I get the impression that in about one out of every three Y&R threads on DC there’s always a poster that mentions Drusilla. That’s one of the reasons why they need to bring her back.) Log in to Reply Dyllan January 17, 2013 At least JG is stealing storylines from 1950s sitcoms or plagiarizing other writers. I can’t believe MAB never got in trouble for her outright theft of another’s storyline/concept. Log in to Reply pferrando January 18, 2013 Hey mon…agree with all your comments, but Lily. The recast was too jarring. I like Davetta, but she should have been brought on as another family member and maybe she’d still be around. It’s really hard to recast actors who are so identified with the role. Terry also was the original Jack, and it took me a while. But I gotta say it again…Brenda D. as Jill always had me in stitches. At the end, yep…too campy, but I so enjoyed her portrayal… Welcome to my home! But anyway, Max Ehrich has it all as Fen. Fen has a philosophy about the ‘troubled’ kids of Genoa City and the world. In that they are simply ‘no good’, even though Fen doesn’t realize he himself is turning into someone who always up to no good. And at least Michael and Lauren has some believable tension, as Lauren is taking the defensive Mother-mode towards her son. Glad that Josh G has that rightness going on.
