HomeTVThe Young and The RestlessDylan Plays With Avery’s Pet Rock on The Young and the Restless Luke Kerr February 5, 2013 The Young and The Restless, TV Recap 17 Comments Did The Young and the Restless really have an Avery (Jessica Collins)/Dylan (Steve Burton) flashback about some rock she gave him, followed later by another flashback when he was filling an “on the rocks” drink order? #StoneColdBoring. These establishing scenes were almost as idiotic as The Bold and the Beautiful’s recent word of the day, “sabotage.” Pet rocks do not get viewers invested in the past relationships of new characters. To borrow from Kay Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper), "Dear God in heaven". Cane (Daniel Goddard) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) continued to do their not-so-subtle flirting dance, using her designs as an excuse. Cane told Chelsea he believes they are kindred spirits. I expect a Lane-fan chartered airplane, the Goodyear blimp and/or a hot-air balloon to be flown over the Y&R studios in protest any second. Congressman Wheeler (Mark Pinter) stopped by Avery’s to try and convince her to let him help with the wrongful verdict case. He told her he was trying to avoid bad publicity. Noah (Robert Adamson) gave Adriana (Jhoanna Flores) the money and then told her to hit the road. At Jabot, Neil (Kristoff St. John) and Leslie (Angell Conwell) started making out, but she stopped it before it went too far. As she was leaving to get ready for the club opening, Leslie ran into Wheeler at the elevator. He recognized her as Valerie. Sharon (Sharon Case) wanted Adam’s (Michael Muhney) house to go with her to Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) second attempt at opening his club. She told him she wasn’t going to let him wallow in self-pity. Of course she eventually convinced him to go. 17 Responses pferrando February 5, 2013 Today’s episode did have a few problems for me. I’ve been pretty positive about the show lately, so I guess it’d be natural to hit an episode that I wasn’t too crazy about. The stories were all there, but the execution seemed off, forced, or something. Would the “cop” really handcuff himself in a somewhat busy restaurant? It seemed heavy on a lot of the newer faces today, and I never want Y and R to turn into “that” show where mostly newer characters are showcased with their back story. Log in to Reply truthtakestime2000 February 5, 2013 i’d play with his stone cold ROCK any day (LOL) but ugh the flashback is lame. willing to forgive but come on guys. give Jess Walton something to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Log in to Reply stoney07 February 5, 2013 Yeah yesterday’s show wasn’t the best for me….mostly because of the Adriana/Alex scene where she pulls the gun out at him. Seemed very….GH to me. And not in a good way. But TODAY’S episode had me at “hello”. Loved every single moment of it. Log in to Reply bobbyew February 5, 2013 Mack’s Clueless reference to Christian Stovich about that rock. Lmao! I was disappointed with the episode as well where that was concerned. Although its good to see Steve with a little bit of a personality. The black t-shirt is back though. That didn’t take long. Adriana is something else. I Like the girl. The Valerie back story I need to know where this is going. I know its sweeps and we will evnetually find out but make it quick. Getting bored with it. Yes. Adam was convinced to go. He needed that screen time cause its being sucked up by all of this other nonsense. Don’t get me wrong we need the nonsense cause too much of some people can be too much. Hate that today’s episode was all about Avery and her non crying acting skills. All in all to see Nikki come back to her man and giving that excuse was great. I guess she’s suffering from Lou Gehrigs disease. That will be a good story line for her. Log in to Reply Coffee_Junkie February 5, 2013 Valerie is probably her hooker name. I wish they have viewers find out Leslie used to be a “Larry.” Log in to Reply TraceyAbbot101 February 5, 2013 loved all of today’s show… shit be hitting the fan…. Lauren/Fenmore/Michael: this is the “it” story for me these days. What is up ( or downlow ) with this kid? He sure has the rage, doesn’t he? I love the fact the Lauren went from window dressing to a front burner again. Cane and Chelsea? Well if he wanted her, he’d drop his pants and show her his boomerang…. and for all of the hype over who was attending the reopening of The Underground, not too many established characters ( except Neil, Nikki, and Victoria ) was there? Where was Paul? Kyle? Phyllis? Chloe? Murphy misread the invite and took Kay to the cemetary…. Log in to Reply hey mon February 5, 2013 Tracey… agreeing with you. This week has been very lite on the Abbott’s. No Jack, Billy, Kyle. No Red, lite on Summer. I guess it is our destiny to see Dylan every day. I suppose that I have to get into this Steve Burton fellow, although I am not sure what JFP sees in him — unless he got her good in bed, or something like that. The Rob Adamson guy is clicking pretty well since he came into town as Noah. He is single-handedly turning the Adriana-thing into something believable, and almost watchable. Like this character navigated the minefield of his mother’s BP Disorder, and her subsequent humiliation at Nictor’s penthouse home-warming, Adamson is going to have to do what he does best — act his @ss off. Not sure if Pinter is recurring or short contract, but Marcus Wheeler is definitely growing on me. He is doing what Tucker McCall could not, strutting around Genoa City, and taking over scenes — including those with Victor C Newman. This guy is a gem, and I’m wondering when he’s been since the 90s and Another World. Here’s hoping he’s on every day, and that he starts getting some booty, cause he deserves it — the way that he has been chewing scenes up. Log in to Reply TraceyAbbot101 February 5, 2013 I really like the Senator – he needs to run in and kick some ass. I am all wrapped up in his s/l – now why would Leslie to someone else? A hooker to pay her way through law school? I just hope the writers don’t use that tired old, racial cliche. I hope Macavoy is only on so much, now, as the plot was needed for sweeps week. I really do not see viewers tuning in for an all Dylan all day soap. I just read on DC that my favorite actress, Beth Maitland, along with several other current Genoa City residents, is involved in a web based soap. I need ro go check it out!! Log in to Reply Yoryla February 5, 2013 Doesn’t matter. This should not be Avery & Dylan’s story anyway. Giving the A-story to two utter newbies is ridic. Log in to Reply shanyboo February 5, 2013 I don’t know how they filmed the “rock” scenes with a straight face. It was beyond lame. Log in to Reply harlee490 February 6, 2013 I would agree w\pferrando about Monday’s episode, it was the weakest episode in weeks. To many newbies and the pet rock…WTF? Why not a pressed rose or dried flower…”best symbol of love was from CarJack. Jack giving Carly a compass so she always knew he was her true north”…this had none of that element. The best part was Senator running into Leslie…calling her Valerie. When the Senator was needling Avery for info. The Chelsea\Cane and when Chelsea ran into Adam\Sharon. I guess you can’t have perfection everyday, b\c I’m getting spoiled again b\c Y&R has been cooking the last couple of weeks…but then Wednesday episode it once again Y&R delivered a power episode with better mix of vets. I’m loving this story w\Nikki…it’s a keeper. She was rubbing her hands when playing the piano? Could it be a nerve diease? Victor is aware of something. I like the idea of their wedding at the new ranch…it will be AWESOME! Log in to Reply noway February 6, 2013 Luke great hash tag. LOL The show has been pretty lame since Adam told off big Daddy. Robert Adamson is good, but he always was enjoyed him on Lincoln Heights. Now Nikki, please no on the ALS, this is a soap opera it was hard enough to watch Stephanie die on B&B. ALS is a death sentence, with no cure in sight, and not something you would want your most mortal of enemies to have, its completely devastating to get this diagnosis, AND they would NEVER EVER send you that diagnosis in the mail. Log in to Reply pferrando February 6, 2013 Thankfully that episode has come and gone, cuz I’ve enjoyed the following ones. Can we please NOT ever see that scene with that damn rock again!?! It’s kinda like that “Lady In Red” dance montage scene with Cricket and Phillip YEARS ago! J) Even though the shows have already been heavy on that guy from GH…I have to say that I really like Avery. And if she already spills her relationship to Nick tomorrow, I’ll be jumping for joy. It’s great for some secrets to be kept, but there’d be no way in hell for her to hold on to that one. Josh’s realism in his writing can be impressive sometimes. Loving the Nikki story too. The transition when she was playing the piano SHOWS that Y and R feels right when the music is slow and moody to fit or enhance the scene. NOT overpower it like most of Jill’s new score. I’m sure she’ll be reading this and taking notes. >) Log in to Reply tedew February 7, 2013 TraceyAbbot101 … or maybe a didgeridoo. I didn’t see much wrong with the rock story and I imagine that many probably find it very romantic. I can’t wait until all is revealed about Nikki because I can’t take all the speculation for much longer. The same goes for Leslie and whatever is up with the senator. Log in to Reply harlee490 February 7, 2013 tedew…slightly anixious are we? I know how you feel, because I can’t wait either. It’s so nice to have secrets again on Y&R and trying to figure out what happen and who goes where…. :~ Nikki story is going to be good I can feel and MTS will shine. Even old man Victor I’ve been appreciating somewhat better on how he’s been treating Nikki. Loved the piano scene it’s been so long since we saw Nikki play. Have you noticed around the vets they have been playing the classic Y&R sound. Its the younger & newer set sometimes the music sucks. I will admit the song playing during the Avery\Dylan moments I discovered & fall in love with it. I need to find out whom is artist. Log in to Reply hey mon February 7, 2013 Music – I want to hear ‘bell gonging in the background’. That’s what I want to hear. That’s when an actor or actress knew they were the ‘focus’ of the writing staff. 2011 – Noah and Adam talking at a table at the Club. Adams remembers back to throwing the data card of Sharon’s innocence in the creek. (CLANG) Noah keeps talking about why Adam summoned him, Adam is distracted (CLANG). The emotion was raw, and the real Noah was worried about his Momma in jail. Give me the bell gonging in the background any day, over this country/pop BS that passes as background music nowadays. And hey, if Alex and Adriana are Latino, then bring out the mariacha. Log in to Reply Mamacita35 February 16, 2013 [quote=harlee490]tedew…slightly anixious are we?
