HomeTVGeneral HospitalGeneral Hospital Scores People Magazine Collector’s Issue Luke Kerr February 20, 2013 27 Comments It’s been a while since we’ve seen a soap featured on the cover of a major publication, but in celebration of General Hospital’s upcoming 50th Anniversary People Magazine has released a Collector’s Issue. The cover features Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis), Maxie (Kirsten Storms), Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Brenda (Vanessa Marcil), Duke (Ian Buchanan) and Anna (Finola Hughes) and Jagger (Antonio Sabato Jr.). 27 Responses nysam February 20, 2013 Nearly perfect cover! Wish Storms wasn’t on it. The others are all iconic characters. Log in to Reply Luke February 20, 2013 I would call Maxie a near iconic character. I mean, her parents are certainly well loved characters and a well loved supercouple. And she’s part of one of the most revered stories of all time. I’ve honestly never liked KS portrayal of Maxie. But I feel its perfectly fine having her on the cover. It would have been made even better having her and JMB on the front together. Log in to Reply Yoryla February 20, 2013 What an HONOUR! And it looks Amazing! Wow. GH has done it again, BIG TIME! Log in to Reply Lonesome Rhodes February 20, 2013 Love it! I’ll definitely get a copy. And I love that Kirsten Storms’ Maxie is on the cover, she’s my favorite character. Log in to Reply SwanQueen59 February 20, 2013 [quote=Luke]I would call Maxie a near iconic character. Two legacy children from legacy families woven into GH history. In any case, this is a definite purchase to be cherished… 0:) Log in to Reply Jon February 20, 2013 Sorry, but at least a B&W photo of Steve/Jessie/Audrey is more deserving of the cover than Storms or Sabato. Almost the first 20 years of existence are ignored. Hope they do a better job inside the mag. Log in to Reply Yoryla February 20, 2013 ^^ I agree Jon. Storms and Sabato aren’t the worst possible choices, but there are many far more deserving, namely John Beradino, Emily McLaughlin and Rachel Ames, which you mentioned. Log in to Reply nysam February 20, 2013 Good point Jon. For a show celebrating 50 the photos are all from 1981 and after. Would have been nice to have a pic from the 60s or 70s. Log in to Reply bobbyew February 20, 2013 Steve Burton didn’t make the cover!!! lmao Log in to Reply liason4real February 20, 2013 Steve, Audrey, Jessie, Alan, Monica, etc would have been a nice choice. Log in to Reply ANGELWENDY15 February 20, 2013 So happy People is honoring GH! How many shows last 50 Years! Finally the show and the actors are getting their well-deserved recognition!!! Will definetly get a copy. Log in to Reply Crazy_About_LauraWright February 20, 2013 Love me some Maxie.. would have loved to see Laura Wright Log in to Reply GHFan76 February 20, 2013 Great for GH and daytime in general to get a People Collector’s Issue for the 50th! I have a feeling all 8 people on this cover will be around for GH’s anniversary in April. Just a hunch. Log in to Reply GHFan76 February 20, 2013 Well at least the 2 of the 8 that are missing… Log in to Reply solosinger13 February 20, 2013 They could have had a collage of characters to include more of them. Log in to Reply sassysdreams February 21, 2013 Congratulations General Hospital!!! I don’t normally purchase this magazine but I will be purchasing this issue! It’s a keeper!!! Log in to Reply LizzieVee February 21, 2013 Congratulations to GH and their 50th. I remember watching the show back in the 60s when my mother watched it. Half hour show, black and white, Steve, Audrey, Lucille, Lee, Jessie. Its nice that People did this but in my opinion, the cover is not attractive at all. I think they could have done a much better job. And I also think they should have put legacy characters on the cover. Log in to Reply alstonboy4315 February 21, 2013 Terrible cover. Sorry to be negative—well, not really in this case—but Jagger, Brenduh and Maxie have NO place on this cover. Where are Felicia, Audrey, Lucy Coe, Tracy, Mac, Bobbie, Holly??? They might as well have put Betty Suarez 2.0 or Connie Falcoloony on the cover. Epic fail. With that being said, I am glad that GH has turned 50 and I hope it sticks around for a long time. Log in to Reply tealita February 21, 2013 Who at People Magazine put this cover together? And why? The mind boggles. Jagger? Really? Anyway, I’m more interested to know what’s INSIDE the magazine. I confess, I’ll have to thumb through it before I buy it. If it doesn’t (as the cover would suggest) pay homage to heavy-hitting, more deserving vets, then I won’t buy it. Log in to Reply soapbaby February 21, 2013 Brenda & Sonny were so pretty together back then. Sigh. Besides Luke & Laura’s wedding photo, nothing about the cover (or the accompanying captions) identifies the show as anything more than a jumbled mess. This is a commemorative issue and targeted to fans, so I am sure that People banks on those who are already fans to buy. The inclusion of Antonio Sabato Jr. is to draw the attention of those less familiar with GH (the man was one the hottest guys on television at the height of his popularity.) I’m guessing the inclusion of Maxie is to appeal to a younger demographic, like teens. The Anna & Duke picture is just terrible. My cover would have included: Steve & Audrey, Luke & Laura, Brenda & Sonny, Frisco & Felicia. In a side-bar: Blackie Parrish (John Stamos), Noah Drake (Rick Springfield), Emily Quartermaine (Amber Tamblyn) and Jackie Templeton (Demi Moore.) And a corner with Elizabeth Taylor as Helena Cassadine with a caption: Celebrity Fans. Log in to Reply Ravennite613 February 21, 2013 Personally – the fact that GH is being recognized on a national level with it’s own Collector’s edition kind of makes up for whomever they saw fit to put on the conver Shoot Casey the Alien could have made the cut and I would be ok with it…this is BIG no matter who is on the cover. Hip Hip Hooray!!! Log in to Reply ANGELWENDY15 February 21, 2013 Ravennite613- Totally agree! I’m just happy that GH is being recognized for 50 years on television and has a whole magazine dedicated to it, a show that was this close to be cancelled a year ago. Luke and Laura and Sonny and Brenda were my favorite couples back then so I’m glad they made the cover. I’m sure inside there will be pictures and articles on all the icons, Steve Hardy, Audrey, Jessie Brewer, Alan, Monica, Edward ,Lila, etc. I just read in Soap Opera Digest that Kristen Storm and Brandon B.are a real-life couple! Wow! Had a feeling when he called off his engagement something was up. They do make a cute couple. Also the actor that plays Micheal who just married in September already had his marriage annuled? Wonder if there’s more going on??? Seems like their is more action and romance going on behind the scenes then on the actual show. Ha! Log in to Reply JASAMMABBY February 21, 2013 I think this is great and will buy it no matter what. I think Maxie is great on there just for the fact that she is a legacy character but also very well known. Same with Sabato.. I would have like to seen few others but won’t nitpick it. Will be excited to flip through it. Log in to Reply Ravennite613 February 21, 2013 AngelWendy – if you have twitter or instagram – Storms and Barash both post the cutest of pictures with each other….I guess what some of us have seen for years on GH (JoMax) has spread to real life..they truly make an adorable couple and I hope on the best for both of them Log in to Reply BornSoapStar February 21, 2013 Not a single Hardy, Webber or Quartermaine?!? REALLY?!? How about a cover that reflects the true 50 years- not just the last couple decades. Log in to Reply Jamey Giddens February 21, 2013 @BornSoapStar Laura’s an adopted Webber. Log in to Reply soapfan616 February 21, 2013 It’s an 80′s and 90′s centric cover. I guess that’s appropriate since GH reached its height of popularity in the 80′s and reached it’s height of creativity in the 90′s. While I could do without one more photo or video replaying of the Luke and Laura wedding (I wonder if the actors feel the same?), who can argue with its ratings success? A shirtless Jaggar seems odd. The daughter of a super of super couple instead of the super couple is interesting. But hey, it’s a soap on the cover of a major national publication. Why be picky?
