Julie Marie Berman OUT at General Hospital!

Sorry, Lante fans, the rumors are true. Julie Marie Berman has opted to leave General Hospital. The role of Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura's (Genie Francis) youngest offspring is being recast.

While the popular Berman has been talking about exiting GH for some time, the news was actually broken in an exclusive interview in this week's ABC Soaps In Depth, on newsstands Friday.

I haven't given two figs about LooLoo Spencer for years, but Julie Berman, in my opinion, is probably the best actress under 30 on soaps right now, so this is a big loss to the soap community.

With the annoying likes of Hopeless Logan, Starrless Wonder, Gabi on DAYS, Kristina on GH and Lame Lily on Y&R, there is a HUGE lack of strong and interesting younger female leads on soaps! I only wish these soaps could start writing them again.

I think they should get Stephanie Gatschet to play Lulu

She is a strong actress. They should have kept her around until after the 50th anniversary. It will be jarring to see a new Lulu with Laura & luke. May be she will find her way to Y&R. I wonder who they have in mind for a recast, Bree Williamson, Natalie Hall?

I am saddened by this news. Julie was definitely a treasure on gh. I wish her all the best and I am sure she will exceed in her future endeavours.

I really hate to see her go, but since she's leaving... I think Marcy Rylan would've made a great Lulu Spencer, if only she wasn't back on Y&R. Any ideas as to who else would play a great Lulu?

On another note... I'd love to see Tom Pelphrey take on the role of Lucky Spencer, since Jonathan Jackson isn't interested in coming back. I think he would be the best recast since Laura Wright took over the roll of Carly.

Paging Jennifer Landon if they want to recast with a REALLY strong and versatile actress!!!!

I agree that Tom Pelphrey would make a good Lucky...he's got the edge and the deep emotions...As for Marcy Rylan and Laura Wright..I'm not a fan of either, although I'll admit that LW's Carly has become a lot more bearable under Cartini. She and RH do have some chemistry.

I LOVE the idea of Stephanie Gatschet playing Lulu! Her and Laura Wright were great as mother and daughter on Guiding Light. I'd love to see Laura Wright and Stephanie Gatschet reunited.

This is disappointing news, especially with GF back. I went through a period of disliking co-dependent Shrewlu during Lucky's last drug binge and after Luke killed Jake, but JMB acting has always been stellar. During the last year I thought Berman had begun to recapture some of Lulu's earlier spunk and it was a pleasure to see her.

I guess we'll see if there is any truth to the rumors that GH is recasting the role with Jen Lilley VERY shortly.

I sort of liked Jen Lilley as a Maxie recast, but I was glad to see Kirsten Storms back in the roll. I would rather see Stephanie Gatschet play Lulu.

If Tom Pelphrey did happen to get hired to play Lucky, it would be strange to see him and Stephanie play siblings, since they played lovers on Guiding Light, plus they dated in real life.

Best of luck to JMB. She's quite talented but Lulu Spencer hasn't been well written for since like '08 IMO. JMB has been "phoning it in" for a few years now. Stephanie Gatschet would be an awesome recast for Lulu Spencer. I am not sure I would like Jen Lilley as Lulu but I really liked her as Maxie. I actually prefer her as an actress to Kirsten Storms [ducking for cover.]

Anyway, knowing Cartini, we will probably end up with a God awful actress like Farah Fath! Casting is not the strong suit of this team and GH has the weakest under 30-set in soaps. Is Mark Teschner still with GH? He casted Lexi Ainsworth, Drew Garrett, Chad Duell, Haley Poulos and the various actors who played Morgan Jax_ all talented actors. Since Cartooni, the new "talent" has been lacking (I do like Emily Wilson but Ellie is not very well written.)

I digress...it's too bad to lose JMB now that Laura's returned and the 50th anniversary is right around the corner.

I myself have not been of fan of Lulu (i.e.) Julie; but I wish her luck. I do agree that Natalie Hall (Colby, AMC) would make a GREAT Lulu recast!!

I also agree Jen Lilley would be a great Lulu. That might be a bit weird. She was not right for Maxie, but I think she would be a good Lulu. No way on Stephanie Gatschet. I thought she was horribly annoying and not good at all on AMC. I think Bree Williamson would be a kick-ass Lulu, or maybe even Erin Torpey. If they wanted to age her just a bit, Gina Tognoni would be hot. Last thought, too bad they just brought back Erin Hershey Presley as Allison, as she would have been a great Lulu choice.

How very sad, Julie is one of the best on GH! I can not see Jen Lilley or Stepanie in the role, they are both to nice. I can maybe see the actress that portrayed Cassandra last year, she looked alot like Genie. But it will be sad to see Julie gone. I do think that she will make it past April 1st. for the 50th!

I hate that JMB's talent has been wasted for a few years now. She's a great actress, and she really looks like Genie Francis. I bought her and L&L's daughter from day one. So I'll miss Julie, but not necessarily Lulu. I'll miss the potential for Lulu more than the character herself. I don't blame Julie one bit for going.

1st Lulu DOESN'T need to be recast & 2nd Lulu could easy be written off & her brothers be brought in. I still miss JJ!!!

Best of luck to JMB. She's an amazing actress!

@Screamer_2012 I never heard JJ say he wasn't interested in returning. FV even said the only problem they have is finding time around his Nashville schedule b/c he's still in the ABC family.

I'm really bummed she's leaving, and I'm dreading the recast. But I always thought the writing of Lucky's exit made next to no sense and Ethan's wasn't much better, so I guess a recast is the only way to go at this point.

I truly want only the brightest and best for this beautiful young woman who is the total package in terms of brains, beauty, talent and intelligence, and not only as it relates to her portrayal of the role of Lulu Spencer-Falconeri. Having met her, watching her interact with people of all ages, in both group settings and individually, she is the real deal, kind, loving, and with a heart for those around her. I invested in her character (and her as an actress), from the moment she came on screen and by extension her pairing with Dominic Zamprogna, which became a bonus that I never saw coming. Even with the, yes, I'll say it, idiotic trajectory of the surrogacy storyline, I've always felt that she's been committed to whatever she's been asked to perform, an example of professionalism personified. I will miss her presence on my screen terribly. There are just some, (and in her case it has been both the character and the real life person), who worm their way into your heart and carve out a little spot where they just settle in and stay with you. My view of my Lante beauties will be skewed when she is no longer in the part. But there is a whole new audience that should have the joy, the gift of watching her that I've had over the eight years she's been on GH. It's oddly in the same vein when I'm faced with talking with my students who are ready to move on from the "nest" that is their studio home. There comes a time when I have to tell them, "I can't teach you anymore. You need to be somewhere else, where you can grow, where you can expand and experience more than what is available here." Yeah, it stings, and sometimes the hurt lingers for a long time in the sense that I don't want them to leave. But in the end, I've found that it's the best thing I will have done for them. I detest (selfishly), that I won't have the pleasure of her company during this long awaited Spencer oriented Ice Princess revisit, especially now that Genie has returned. The same goes for the delicious possibilities that would have come with the addition of a Spencer-Falconeri baby. But, Julie needs to be doing other things that showcase her versatility with both drama and comedy, capitalizing on her ability to shade and color whatever she's asked for. To not use these God given gifts that show her off would be a criminal waste. I will continue to follow her career as I truly believe that she is "something special" and that there are wonderful avenues for her to explore, more challenges that are on her horizon. I have no doubt that she will be successful wherever she lands. God bless, Julie. (Yep, I admit, I'm trying to smile even if there are more than a few tears.)... Innocent

Good luck to JMB! She wants to break out of soaps and do primetime and movies. It's now or never. JMB is almost 30 and if she doesn't make the jump soon, it might never happen. So many soap actors get stuck in a rut and settle for a steady paycheck.

JJ found success in primetime with "Nashville" because he had the guts to leave soaps and reach higher.

Follow your ambitions, JMB.

"Lante" was boring and played out. They were Guza's couple and the writing has been sub-par for them since he left.

Noooooo Sad

This make no sense. Why on earth would she leave NOW of all times?! They're just weeks away from the biggest celebration of the decade, one that has been on the works for months. Genie just got back, and they are really trying to beef up the Spencers, and NOW she decides to leave? I don't get it.

Though of course if she's had a really good offer that insist she has to leave now, then I guess in that case I can understand. But still, this is a real shame. Hate to see her go, and I can't or don't WANT to imagine who could be a recast Sad No Charity Rahmers please!!!!!

Not surprised by the news. JMB hasn't had a real good story since Cartini took over. She looks bored thru this whole silly surrogate story line. Wonder if Tony Geary will be next. He hasn't had any Emmy type scenes in the past year and he always loved Guza's dark writing of Luke. I'm starting to wonder if there will be more following Steve Burton's route if they don't stop this whole psycho killers stories that are taking over the show lately. Bring back the great Ric Hearst, put Heather away for awhile, stop the vampires, bring Ric back to deal with Molly instead of her worrying about vampires, and may-be as competion for AJ for Liz. Give Becky H. a storyline, Alexis too, and stop making Sabrina the main character in almost every story going on right now. Surprised she's not Caleb's new love interest-Ha!
Anyway, Good Luck to JMB!!!

Julie has been my favorite soap actress for years and I have been lucky enough to meet her several times. I will regret not seeing her on my screen but as it killed me to see her character Lulu turned into that Stepford wife since the Lante pairing started, in a way I am more relieved and happy than sad that she is leaving considering that now I won’t have to suffer anymore my girl Lulu/JMB as Mrs Dante Falconeri (throwing up a little in my mouth).

It has been so obvious for so many die hard Lulu fans how Lulu has become a supporting character since Dante showed up when she was front and central before. Her two Emmys were won for episodes of the JoLu times (the breakdown at Johnny’s trial episode and the JoLu break up). In 2010 at the Habitat for Humanity event I was lucky enough to attend, it was clear that Julie was fed up of Lulu being just a pimp for Dante. Since then what did Lulu have to do? The “Lulu only” storylines have been very very limited and often cut short (Lulu starting to drink, Lulu dealing with Luke’s alcoholism, Lulu relaunching the Haunted Star with Johnny). It is interesting how neither Guza nor Cartini even had the guts to create a real triangle between Johnny, Lulu and Dante. They could have been the Luke / Laura / Scotty of the next generation and there had not been a real triangle on GH for years.

But no, Lulu had to lose all her spunky side, had to become all judgemental like all hubby or to learn how to clean the fridge on her knees (laundry and ironing apparently remained Olivia’s tasks). Her recent obsession over getting pregnant and her behaviour with Maxie have been ridiculous. This was NOT Lulu Spencer. So I am really not surprised that JMB is leaving. And I wish her the best and I know we will hear from her again as she is immensely talented.

And at least I won’t have to see my JMB’s Lulu with Dante anymore which was always making me sick and will be a huge relief… So Congrats Julie !

NO SHOCK THE GIRL HAS NOT BEEN PUTTING IN THE EFFORT IN A WHILE. Her interactions with Starr was off. When someone like JMB who is a pretty good actress is so expressive it shows when there is a lack of interest in a project. And she has been showing some lack of interest in GH since the whole Crimson story line ended. I do not care one bit whether she leaves. I think JMB can sometimes come off as a self righteous bitch.

While they are recasting can they recast the role of Dante. Dominic is an okay actor but he has never really been the best thing to hit GH. They could of gotten a better looking young men to portray Dante. If not can we please have a Dante Serena coupling?

and one more thing is it just me or does there appear to be some riff between Geannie Frances and JMB? Their scenes together did not seem fluid like it use to be. They only person Lulu seems to have chemistry with is Maxi, Mac, Dante, those folks. in real life she hangs out with Kelly Sullivan but after that There was obviously some shit going down on the set.
