Joy Behar OUT at The View; Will Barbara Walters and Elisabeth Hasselbeck Be Next?

It's the end of an era for The View. Deadline is reporting original panelist Joy Behar is departing after over 16 years on the ABC chatfest.

Behar’s contract is reportedly set to expire in August, and she's already told the brass at ABC she won't be renewing it. Said Behar in a phone call to Deadline

"You reach a point when you say to yourself, ‘Do I want to keep doing this?"

Deadline is also hearing rumblings of a possible reboot of The View, with both Barbara Walters and Elisabeth Hasselbeck's futures with the series in question.

Whoopi "Rape Rape" Goldberg should be on the chopping block, too.

I thought Babs would have been the one to call it quits.

I heard she's getting a show on CNN, so I can see why she's leaving. Barbara though love her, she does need to retire. I actually like Elisabeth, but if the ratings are not what they used to be, I can see ABC wanted to reboot the show with a new panel.

Keep Whoopi, maybe have Ali Wentworth to replace Joy, have Meghan McCain replace Elisabeth, if they go that route. The next few months should be interesting. Barbara, I can see them wanting her to retire, did you see that interview with Lily Tomlin today awkward.

Jillian keep us posted, please? How are the ratings for the View?

I am so glad Whoopi is staying, she is the rational one. Barbara just needs to retire and Elisabeth is just tired.

I've tried watching 'The View' and I just could not get into it. That is one talk fest I can and the rest of the country can do without. Besides, 'The Talk' I presume is killing 'The View' ratings wise (CBS Daytime won February sweeps this year as all 5 daytime shows had major gains from February last year to February this year, and we have Angelica McDaniel's to thank for that).

I love Joy's attitude. Sorry to see her go. Like the others above have said, Barbara needs to RETIRE! Good gawd, she's in her eighties...go travel and hire young boy-slaves...LOL

If Babs leaves her own show she'll be behind the camera making executive decisions + she also owns a piece of her show as well too. So don't think The View is going away. Babs will have hand in the pot as well being a long time employee with ABC NEWS-

Would anybody want to see Kathy Griffin take over Joy spot?

Nah, like I said I think Ali Wentworth, she's been on the show multiple times, she's funny and cool, and the audience knows and loves her, so the transition will be easier.

I do agree, if Barbara does leave, she'll still be behind the scenes, it is her show along with Bill Geddes after all.

Big mouth, I think I'm so funny, but really haven't got a clue, Joyless Behar will NOT be missed by me, as a matter of fact, they ALL can take a hike.

She's excused famous mens disgusting behavior too many times to be branded as rational. Would she shrug off some random man using the n-word like she did Mel Gibson? On second thought, I don't want to know...

So the old hen is leaving. She's said some of the most hateful stuff I've ever heard on TV and ushered in uncivil discussion. Good riddance. If CNN puts her on, then they are dumber than I think they already are. Good night you witch.

1. Why did Joy announce to Niki Finke and not announce it on the show?

2. Why did Joy release the announcement on Thursday when The View is usually not live on Friday?

3. A re-boot of The View with Brooke Shields? I'm not a tv exec with focus based research but even I can predict that a re-boot of a show that started in the 90's with a star from the 80's is not a recipe for young viewers.

4. Sherri Shepard still has a job?

Of course, conservatives are going to be glad she's leaving. She gives them hell.

I like the idea of Ali Wentworth replacing her.

Oh, and if Sherri Shepherd left, I wouldn't miss her. She seems nice, but she doesn't come off as the sharpest tool in the shed.

Kill this show. Pull the plug!! Joy's last day should be the last day of the show.

On a serious note; daytime viewers are creatures of habit. Once this dynamic is changed- the ratings will fall. Let's be honest- Ali Wentworth is going to replace her. Big deal. They are going to replace her with someone "controversial" and "liberal".

Yes, I read about CBS gains comparing current and from Feb '12. I think if there are rumblings it's because of The Talk. TT had grown tremendously this past year and LMAD grew better then expected. CBS is in very good shape.

HELL TO THE NO! I cannot stand Kathy Griffin! I find here extremely repulsive and offensive. I stopped being a fan of hers when she did her "My Life on the 'D' List" show and said that, "Jesus should suck it." As a Christian, I was appalled. I know she's very pro-gay and I'm glad that she is. But there are celebrities who say and utter things and end up crossing the line. When that happens, I no longer have the respect of the person and then I am no longer a fan of theirs anymore. Take Jon Cryer and his TV show, 'Two and a Half Men' for instance. During a scene, Jon's character made a snide remark about Chaz Bono without mentioning Chaz's name and he pretty much trashed those who are transgendered. I stopped watching the show at that point and took it off of my DVR. I thought it was funny and quite apropos that Angus T. Jones of the same show called the show "filth" and told people to stop watching the show. I got a bit of a chuckle out of that.

I specifically did not watch The View because of Joy Behar. I found her to be horribly obnoxious and rude. Only her opinion mattered. I say good riddance. Maybe they can salvage the show with her gone.

Behar, Sheppard nor Walters would be missed by this Conservative and I would love for Ali to replace Joy and yes I'm aware that she's a liberal just as her hubby George is (but I absolutely love them). There does need to be a better balance if they are going to talk "The Political" talk; perhaps bring in Meghan McCain to help with that as she's more of a left winged Republican.

And yes, yes, yes to Ms. Walters retiring!!

Take Whoopie with you. The woman never seems to know what's going on, and just looks plain bored during most of the interviews. Plus she can't read the teleprompter to save her life.

They could use "The View" to appease those who won't likely see some of their favorite AMC or OLTL people on the online reboot. I haven't watched "The View for almost a year but know Susan Lucci was on recently, maybe she could replace Joy. Or they could rotate some GH people to cross-promote the shows. Likewise, they need a conservative voice. Meghan McCain could be good or they could steal Jenna Bush Hager from Today.

I predict at Dlister will fill that spot, and it won't be the ranking of Kathy Griffin. Ali Wentworth is worshiped by Walters. She provides the same type of humor, she's a mother, she wrote a book- but more than anything she's part of the arm that is ABC Disney.

Didn't watch the View much, but I did like that Joy spoke her mind and was a great advocate for the left.

Not to mention she's smart.

On a side note, I too am glad to see the Talk eating into some of its audience. The View has been stale for far too long.

I'll be checking her out though if she shows up on CNN.
