HomeTVGeneral HospitalGeneral Hospital’s Anniversary Episode Moved to April 2 Jamey Giddens March 14, 2013 General Hospital 17 Comments Vatican Interruptus: Look for General Hospital to celebrate it's 50th anniversary on April 2, not April 1. The one-day shift is the result of Wednesday's show being preempted by the announcement that the cardinals had selected Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina the new Pontiff aka Pope Francis. GH premiered on April 1, 1963. 17 Responses TV Gord March 14, 2013 I could see them capitalizing on the publicity of pre-empting The Chew on April 1st and making it a two-hour GH special. Doesn’t that make sense to anyone at ABC? Log in to Reply GHteenybopper March 14, 2013 I don’t care when it airs, I’m just happy that it made it this far with the huge mess that was ABC the last two years. I’m so happy we GH fans will be able to watch the show celebrate its 50th on air! Log in to Reply TheFloatingRib March 14, 2013 @TV Gord – that makes total sense. Let GH and all of us celebrate on GH’s special day! I can’t wait for the special day, whenever it is. Log in to Reply Danny Ricci March 14, 2013 As a soap fan, I’m glad GH is HAVING a 50th anniversary. So I guess that overrules all. But let me make it very clear, the Obsessive-Compulsive component of me is incensed over this…. Log in to Reply SavePortChuck March 14, 2013 Well they can’t exactly set April 2 in stone either with they way ABC pre-empts the show every couple of weeks for some dumb event or another. Log in to Reply FoxyMegan March 14, 2013 One day delay is no big deal, but TV Gord made a great suggestion: Why NOT give The Chew a day off and expand GH to 2 hours? Log in to Reply Yoryla March 14, 2013 Yes what TVGord said is what ABC should have done. I guess in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t really matter, since we are still seeing all the episodes and in the correct order. However, I do feel this is stupid in the sense that GH and beloved soap fans shouldn’t have to change anything just because there is or isn’t a new Pope. Log in to Reply Mets82 March 14, 2013 I dont know if you heard this or not but I hear that Soapnet, of all places, is airing 50 yrs. of General Hospital from March 29 to April 1. They are actually going to be airing episodes from each decade including the very first one from 1963!!! Has anybody heard about this? Hell, does anyone even get Soapnet anymore?? I would like to see this marathon but I dont have Soapnet anymore and I dont think a lot of people do either. Log in to Reply Yoryla March 14, 2013 Mets82, Yes it is true! SOAPNet is doing a 50-hour marathon in honor of the 50th anniversary. There is a list going around where you can see some of the episodes that are coming. And yes one of them is the very first episode. Log in to Reply GHFan777 March 14, 2013 Yorla, where is this list that tells you which episodes are going to be aired? I can’t wait to watch this marathon and tape the episodes I want to keep. I would like a heads up so I know what is airing at what time. It was, and is, never a dull moment on “General Hospital”! http://www.tvmediainsights.com/2013/03/general-hospital-marathon-on-soapnet-2/ I have DirecTV and they still have SoapNet! Log in to Reply GHFan777 March 15, 2013 Woohoo TY Sassy…Promise not to laugh..I switched to DirectTV last month just to get Soapnet back for this marathon, and also the Philly area is always interrupting the show in the afternoon it seems with newsbreaks. This way I can catch it at night if I have to…DirectTV is also a bit cheaper than Comcast…the first year at least….I can hardly wait to see this marathon though. Log in to Reply Mets82 March 15, 2013 Well, is there anyway I could still get Soapnet? Who still has it? I dont have direct tv. Log in to Reply stefanstavros March 15, 2013 I have Soapnet, and I use Time Warner Cable. Log in to Reply liason4real March 15, 2013 ABCD interrupted AMC & OLTL in 2010 order to shove Brenda, Brenda, Brenda down our throats and they can’t kick The Chew out at for one freaking day? Heck, I would run the 50th Anniversary back to back on April 1 and April 2! Log in to Reply adamblast March 15, 2013 Can’t wait for the SoapNet marathon! Sounds amazing. I started watching ABC soaps when Ryan’s Hope debuted. While I only followed GH originally during the Luke & Laura heyday, I’ve been a huge fan again for the past couple years. This marathon gives me a great chance fill in much of the history & back story I’ve never had. Thank goodness for large DVRs–I’m gonna record the whole thing at watch at my leisure.
