Why Did Adam Take a Bullet For His Daddy on The Young and the Restless?

Monday's episode of The Young and the Restless opened with Billy Miller talking about his popular character Billy Abbott. It was so nice to see Billy and Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) scenes.I was a big fan of that pairing. I'm sure the Villy's scenes were great for Daytime Confidential's Jamey Giddens, but the couple has never been my cup of tea.

The Newman clan quickly apprehended Adam's (Michael Muhney) shooter. Nick (Joshua Morrow) demanded to know who he was and why he recognized him. The assassin teased that they'd all be dead soon. Billy (Billy Miller) smelled gas in the house and quickly shouted for everyone to get out.

While most of the family evacuated, Victor (Eric Braeden) stayed with Adam. Of course Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) wasn't going to leave her hubby in the house.

Billy miraculously stopped the bomb from exploding, with just 20 seconds to spare. Maybe he took an explosives class in between all of the gambling and whoring around he did in the Orient?

After reading Kyle (Blake Hood) the riot act about Summer (Hunter King) being shirtless in Jack's (Peter Bergman) office, Phyllis confronted her daughter. She told Summer she knew what she was up to and she wasn't going to get away with it.

The most ironic part of the episode was Sharon (Sharon Case) giving Noah (Robert Adamson) advice about his sex life. That was rich. Later, Noah ran into Summer at Crimson Lights and the two compared notes about their meddling mothers.

Sharon rushed to the hospital, after learning Adam had been shot. She watched as her—dare I say it— true love was wheeled into surgery.

    The episode was superb.

And the ironic part between Sharon and Noah was written very well with Noah calling Sharon out and later telling Summer about it. That was really great. You sometimes don’t get this in soaps.

I LOVED Victor showing true feelings towards Adam, not wanting to leave his son’s side. So much love under all this hate on both sides. It’s great to see that. Josh Griffith is doing a perfect job to bring this father/son relationship back to what it always should have been.

And yeah, Sharon is rushing to the hospital to be by her true love’s side. No doubt about it. Sharon and Adam are endgame IMO. But I don’t see it happening with all the Chelsea baby stuff still happening.

Anyway, it was a great episode and this show feels very fresh on it’s 40th birthday. Thanks to the new regime!

I thought the episode overall was good. The bomb seemed pointless and added zero tension. Lets see, the Newman s just got a new set…definitely nothing happening. Now if they had waited and demolished the old ranch in this scenario it might have been very suspenseful. The shooting was enough. The bomb was gratuitous.

Fantastic episode! Had me on the edge of my seat one minute and tearing up the next at Victor refusing to leave Adam’s side and calling him “son.” Loved Billy being the hero and maybe just maybe Victor will thaw a little bit now in regards to Villy. Also I loved Billy Miller’s intro and what he said about Victoria literally and figuratively saving his life. So great to see how the whoring around is in the past and he’s only been with Victoria for 3 years now (getting raped by Chelsea doesn’t count). The only bad part for me was Sharon racing to be with Adam. I will never like Shadam no matter who is writing the show. I was so glad Noah pointed out how the advice she gave him about Adriana applied to herself with Adam.

“Billy miraculously stopped the bomb from exploding, with just 20 seconds to spare. Maybe he took an explosives class in between all of the gambling and whoring around he did in the Orient?” -Hilarious!

While I think Adam being shot will lead to some great storyline developments and scenes, I thought the whole shooting/bomb thing was rather awkwardly done, with Billy playing McGyver there part and parcel with that.

    Fantastic episode!

The show is just overall much more compelling now. It’s not so much the action stuff that I’m loving as much as it is the conversations between characters. On Tuesday’s episode, the conversation with Sharon, Chelsea, and Victor was brilliant to me. Each one having a different perspective of where things went wrong between Adam and the Newmans. Victor blaming Hope for him not being in Adam’s life, and Chelsea calling him out on it. This is the kind of Y&R I remember. I just wish the background scores would match with this type of drama. This new stuff is okay, much better than when JFP first started, but I miss some of the old stuff. Actually, I miss ALL of the old stuff. If that music were still on the show, I’m sure I’d be crying or on the edge of my seat throughout the entire episode.

The writing is definitely there. But this music is questionable. But to cut JFP a break, she was INSTRUCTED to change and update the music. She could’ve picked some better things tho…

    But brilliant episode!

as I was posting in other segments on DC. my jaw has been constantly hitting the floor the past few days.

Loved the now infamous “panty scene” with Noah and Sharon – yeah, blame Summer who is capable of getting into her own adult mischief.

Loved the hospital scenes with Chelsea and Sharon and Chelsea saying Sharon was the one who truly should be in with Adam!!!

Still loving the Summer/Phyllis scene and Red racing to the phone to call Jack to cancel their upcoming romantic get a way..

    Keep it up Y&R!!

I was waiting for this post.

I agree with everyone else, the way Victor responded to Adam was so sincere and loving. When Adam first fell on him and everyone was running to Victor, when Victor got up and was like Adam, my son….it was just so sad and sweet. I loved it!

I have to say this, this actors are professionals. From what I see on twitter and other blogs, Eric B and Michael M don’t really get along but you could not tell that from those scenes. Eric B really brought it.

Although the direction wasn’t very good. It seemed a little disjointed.

The one thing I HATED was Nikki kept yelling that she wasn’t going to leave without Victor and she kept telling Victor to come with her. Didn’t that heifer see his shot son who just saved his life on the ground bleeding? Did she really expect him to just get up and leave his son? All those scenes really pissed me off. I can’t believe Nikki was acting so selfish.

Because Adam needed a contrived redemption? I was too busy rolling my eyes to care.

The Noah/Sharon scene was the highlight of the episode for me. I liked Phillys/Summer too.

    Was a great episode.

Not that Adam will suddenly become a close member of the Newman clan, but I think this will change the dynamic (hopefully), and it adds more complication with the Chelsea/Sharon/Adam story.

I still really don’t want Adam and Sharon together…only because of the baby switching mess, but sooner or later there are only so many goods deeds the writers can have him do before the audience sees him as redeemed.

I’ll get there when I get there. In the meantime, I am enjoying the show thanks to Josh. Some great stories ahead!

First of all I don’t think Nikki was acting selfishly but I did find her to be extremely annoying. Just get out of the house you silly woman!

Billy diffusing the bomb did seem rather miraculous but who cares really; it needed to be done.

What I did not like was Victor’s confrontation with Sharon and Chelsea. I think Chelsea was telling it like it is and her deferring to Sharon was quite classy. But Victor reverted to form when he started chewing out the two (especially Chelsea) in his usually high and mighty “how dare you upset and disrespect the great Victor Newman” manner.

Lauren is really starting to bug me more and more. You don’t go running off to the latest endearing stud just because you’re upset with your husband. Fen has gotten over it and so should you! I maintain that Michael did exactly as he needed to do with the evidence that was presented to him and the manner in which Fen was acting at the time. Fen did the crimes, Jamie just temporarily fought back. I’m sure that there are many a mother who can tell you that they were wrong about their motherly intuition. Your motherly intuition won’t prepare you for the way he’s going to act when he finds out what you’ve been up to.

Yeah, as much as Adam has grown on me in the last year I just can’t get my back into another round of Adam and Sharon and it’s for the reason you mentioned. I suppose everyone deserves a shot at redemption but I just can’t wrap my brain around someone wanting the person who switched their child at birth and led them to believe she was dead in their life in such an intimate manner. To this day it remains a puzzle to me.

The show has been great. Loved Sharon running to be by Adam’s side. Victor loves his son. Damn EB’s portrayal of a devastated Victor was on point. Adam and Billy saving the day lol. Victor better treat them right. I also enjoyed today’s show Michael and Lauren scenes were powerful and I loved that Chelsea realized that Sharon should be the one by Adam’s side

Ok, this is WHAT I HAVE BEEN MISSING ABOUT SOAP OPERAS for the longest time! This episode today when Chelsea found out about Adam and both Sharon and Chelsea CALMLY but strongly admonished Victor for Adam being who he is because of Victor’s absence as a father WAS SUPERB! It was real. It was heartbreaking and, for me at the very least, made me see Adam more as the underdog to both Nick and Victoria.

Adam saves Victor’s life and all either Nick and Victoria could think of is a kid and marriage. PRICELESS. Spoiled brats.

But that last little complaint just added to the layers of this episode.

Then throw in Michael and Lauren and Dylan and Avery and you have one emotionally packed and truly well written hour.

My only gripe was Victoria and her constant whining and “let’s talk about it” mantra instead of just doing it! For years I loved this character but the writers have written her into a corner with her passive aggressive attitude that I am hoping Chelsea beds Billy again and makes him think the baby is his just to get Victoria moving.

    Please write her stronger.

All in all, this was a great episode. It’s said that such great action is based on a really weak story plot of a US senator hiring a hit man to take out a man IN FRONT OF WITNESSES.

AN AMAZING OLD SCHOOL SOAP TODAY!!!!

Monday’s episode of Y&R was superb!

I loved Adam taking a bullet for Victor and everyone’s reaction as everything took place. Marcy Rylan, particularly, stood out for me with her portrayal of a frightened Abby. She reminded me of a young Heather Tom with the way the actress conveyed her fear about who was trying to kill Victor.

I also got a kick out of Alex going all NYPD at the Newman Ranch. Such a shame he shaved though, the goatee made him sexier.

As some mentioned that the bomb was overkill and I agree, but I think the point was for Billy “Screw up” Abbott to be the one to save the day. The whole cutting the wire bit was a metaphor about the choices that usually blow up in Billy’s face.

My only gripe is I wish Congressman Wheeler were more menacing. He just seems like a dirty old man sitting around the GCAC and Mark Pinter deserves better. No, I don’t him dominating story, but this story would be so much more suspenseful if this character was written like a soap opera villain of yore. Give us a reason to fear this guy, Y&R!

Good job, JFP and JG…you knocked it out of the park!!!

Excellent episode with the exception of the exceptionally poor performances by Joshua Morrow and Amelia Heinle. They embarrassed themselves in a key episode of the show. The new guy that plays Alex sucked too, but I don’t know the actor’s name.

I hope JG develops a true father/son relationship between Victor and Adam. They don’t have to be all huggy, but it would be so refreshing to see them act somewhat decently towards one another. I’m sure Nikki will try to derail that, but maybe Hope can haunt the ex-stripper. I remember how hateful Nikki was to the blind girl from Kansas.

Loving the dialogue, and all the acting but one, and by now you should all know who the weakest link is for me. Hint he just showed up in January.

Ok, Nick was over the top ridiculous immediately following the shooting, but it just had me CDFU.

Victoria is not supposed to be a whiny bore ass, can SOMEBODY fix that? Anybody?????????

Damn Chavez looking mighty fine today.

The baby burning kidnapping is the MAIN reason when JG/JFP came over all of MAB’s crap should have been scrapped. Either through a dream or perhaps someone in a coma, hearing and seeing and really not knowing what was real or part of the comatose state.

In some people’s minds Adam is just not redeemable. I actually like him NOW but STILL find it total BS that Sharon wants anything to do with him.

I guess we have to just accept some really disturbed people wrote some really sick shit and just try to move on.

Sorry, I thought this episode was awful from start to finish. It was like “Passions”. So campy!

Firstly, Billy Miller doing an intro. Why? This guy has been there less than 5 years. He’s not a veteran cast member. That spot should have gone to Jess Walton, Tracey Bregman, or Jerry Douglas. There was no substance in his interview except to remind the audience that Billy is a womanizing gigolo who slept with so many characters that Miller lost count and could barely recall their names, ie, “loading dock girl”. I rolled my eyes at his list of conquests. What a waste of time! NEXT!

Now the episode itself was ridiculous. Congressman Wheeler sends a hitman to the wedding to plant a bomb and kill everyone on the ranch. Why? That’s like some “Homeland” type terrorism shit. Overkill much? LOL!

Then the world’s dumbest hitman pulls a gun on Victor in front of a crowd of people. WTF?

I burst out laughing when Nick jumped the hitman and fought with him over the gun. Then Adam leaped in front of Victor, took a bullet, and flopped around like a dead fish.

Nick trying to interrogate the hitman was hilariously bad. Some of the worst acting I have seen on this show. Um, leave that enforcer stuff to Jason “Dylan” Morgan, okay?

Alex is supposed to be a cop, right? The actor looked like he was on a coffee break the entire time. The hitman drops hints that everyone will die and Alex is like, yeah, whatever, buddy, where’s my donuts. Billy defusing the bomb was laughable.

Mostly, I feel bad for Mark Pinter. I know he’s a good actor but the writing for his character is terrible. He has the same stupid conversation with Victor for a month, and the rest of the time, they have him lounging around eavesdropping on people and twirling his mustache.

Maybe JFP should hire Bob Guza as Co-Head Writer. He could help pick up the pace and move things along. Josh Griffith drags his stories at a snail’s pace and he can’t writing big Sweeps events.

Monday’s episode was on money and great episode over all. I have to agree w\Restless the bomb thing was really useless plot point but the shooting was superb. Victor guilt just washed over his face and this shooting will affect both Victor & Adam…and we still have Wheeler in mix….OH wait until Victor finds out it was Wheeler. >)

I loved all the scenes w\Phyllis, Kyle & Chestie Newman hanging out….LOL! >) it was great when Phyllis & Summer talked about men…I know some don’t like Hunter but I sure in hell do, she & MS has some great chemistry…she is chip off the old block…meaning Phyllis-mini ;) I loved when Noah & Summer complaining about each other’s mom and I loved the conversation between Sharon & Noah.

Tuesday…was even a better episode (PSST! when have we had such good episodes day in day out?…been many years!)

I’m w\Tedew about Chelsea & Sharon on admonishing Victor was spot ON & hit home! Chelsea putting her feelings aside for Sharon was very classy & adult of Chelsea. Is Victor going to be the one that finds out about Chelsea being preggers first or will it be Sharon??

    TraceyAbbott what do you think?

I love that Josh will be doing a story of Victoria & Billy trying to have a baby ABBOTT  so the baby could solidify bring the family together…there is great drama and story in the In Vitro Fertilization for Villy…I LOVE IT! It will be as Abby a Newman|Abbott and all the trappings

I’m loving Y&R and honestly it’s so nice to see Y&R doing what it does best which are stories coming from the characters, playing the emotional beats…it might not perfect in some area but Josh isn’t Bill & Bill has to be resting in peace again to see his trophy show excel again with the kind of stories he would write and bring to Y&R. The dialogue is so good now with the characters driving the story with simple conversations is SOOOOO refreshing.

Y&R is the soap on fire! PPL might not like how Y&R turned itself around but I’m extremely happy. CBS’s Y&R & B&B are both in great shape and delivering quality, old fashion, nail baiting soap opera! ;)

[quote=akbad806]Monday’s episode of Y&R was superb!

My only gripe(s) with the show yesterday WAS Chavez acting like such an a$$ even with the prep and then having Paul… as the new CHIEF… basically threatening the guy that anything could happen to him out there in the middle of no where. Chavez’ schtick when he came on with being this “cooler than cool, know it all, tough cop” was getting tired by the time we discovered he was a Adrianna’s sister. Just be a cop, not a dick. And Paul doesn’t do well playing the ‘bad cop’.

And Wheeler… SOOOOOOOO AGREEE that he should be more menacing. We needed his wife (and I believe they mentioned a son but not sure) on the show to see that in private the man was WORSE than Victor in the control issue department. I just didn’t get him AND STILL DON’T as a BADDIE BAD villian. Just let his story end and continue with the repercussions we are seeing now with Adam’s shooting.

I’m not in the same camp as you when it comes to watching the whiny Victoria struggling to have a baby via in vitro. And it has more to do with just the pure fact that the character has lost her edge since marrying Billy (I love them together) and I feel that the writers are struggling to get a story for Victoria instead of just giving the character one that would show her as strong, determined and confident… every bit of her Father and her mother.

I LOVE VICTORIA as a character and as one of the core of the show, but watching the episode yesterday … WHICH WAS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES of any of the soaps on tv yesterday because there was actual dialogue that moved and was NOT repeated, it felt real and was emotional AND AND AND it showed 2 women as being strong and fierce and not backing down on Victor!! I found mysel, though, fastforwarding through VILLY scenes after the halfway mark of the episode. I was just bored and dumbfounded by the whining and selfishness of the character while her HATED brother lie struggling for life after saving THEIR father’s life.

THAT’S the type of backbone I want for Victoria that we saw with Chelsea and Sharon. Even seeing Chelsea think of Adam’s wants before her own and offering the chance for Adam to see Sharon before Victor or Chelsea was what made the episode PERFECT (to a point) for me. Another baby story to watch of Victoria whining and crying about wanting a child, getting a child, getting pregnant and the false hope and all that is not what I am looking forward to over the next 9 months. I mean, Victoria can’t even let Chelsea look at her (Victoria’s) child without the audience being given another scene of Victoria whining over Chelsea wanting to take the baby from them (which is totally unfounded in what viewers have seen.)

And please don’t accuse me anyone of not understanding the struggles women go through to have a child… I know better than most or have been right there during the struggle – this has more to do with making the character a stronger person first.

It always surprises me that after all this time people find it so hard (as do the writers) to forgive Adam for the baby switching story. I mean, we all love Michael and forgave him for kidnapping, almost raping and killing Christine. We forgave Kevin for giving virginal lily an STD while she was UNDERAGE, trying to Kill Colleen by burning down GINA’S, for stealing, greenlighting Katherine into thinking she had dementia with his mom’s help. Gloria for basically putting cleaner fluid in a lotion that ultimately had a hand in a person’s death.

We’ve forgiven Victor for kidnapping Julia, his first wife’s lover, and locking him in a basement prison. We have forgiven him for stealing Colleen’s heart while she lay brain dead from drowning because he hired Patty to “kill” Jack. We’ve forgiven Victor for mentally abusing Nikki under the MAB regime. We have forgiven Nick was sleeping around and producing 2 kids each time. We have even forgiven Phyllis for her numerous attempts at murder and getting away with it, disposing of bodies in the trash, and for being a basically demented character when it serves her positions…

YET, yet, Adam can’t be forgiven for switching a baby after all his good deeds over 5 years?! I understand why and I’m not blaming any fan… I think it’s time, like with Victor’s digressions… that the show just stop mentioning the baby switch so that eventually SO WILL WE and then Adam can be a mix of GOOD/EVIL and LOVE/LOATHE without always being seen as a baby switcher.

What I liked about Adam taking the bullet for Victor, was , especially for Adam, he always loved his father and just wanted his father to show him some respect and love. Dont forget Michael and Lauren. Seeing the 1980s and 1990s come back ‘from the dead’ is really starting to become a treat to watch. The Italian Stallion must be pretty addicting to Lauren, cause she is giving it up for ‘good loving’ in the sack with a bar-tender. It is pretty good writing how she suddenly finds Michael to be repulsive. Happens to married couples in their 40s and 50s all the time.

I loved the episode and I am loving the new dynamic with Adam and Victor, but count me as a fan that won’t forget what Adam did to Ashley. For me, it doesn’t matter if it is never written about again.

I also think the comparison to Michael is common and unfair. Michael’s redemption story was one of the best ones to date (IMO). Gloria and Kevin I can’t comment on because I don’t care about them. I don’t think that Victor or Phyllis have been forgiven for anything, based upon what I see on various boards. There is a segment mad that Nikki married him again for this exact same reason. I don’t think that Nick sleeping around requires forgiveness…all soap characters do that and it isn’t on the level of what others mentioned have done.

I just think that Adam’s deeds should be added to the list of things done by characters that some fans will never forget and never forgive him for. Some fans will never forgive Phyllis for her attempted murder and still believe that she murdered Sasha. Some will never forgive Victor for any number of actions. It is par for the course.

I think Nikki will find out Chelsea’s lil secret.

As MTS points out, Nikki needs some girl friends.

Love the Lauren / Michael storyline.

Love the scenes with Big Red/Chestie….. and ole Sharon giving sexual advice to Noah. We all know Nick is too busy to be doing the job.

I can see Summer taking over as ” The Naked Heiress “.

Nikki says, “Victor, you saved Adam’s life”. OK Nicole, Victor simply held a towel to his son’s chest, while Adam is the one who took the bullet. Get it right girl.

If JoshG wants Adam to be forgiven, he has to bring Ashley back to forgive him. Not just as window dressing to berate Phyllis, or to hand a crystal bowl to Victor and Nikki, something meaningful.

I don’t think the audience shouldn’t find Adam redeemed.

I love the character and the complex way he’s been written actually since he came back years ago.

What I never will believe is that a good mother like Sharon could be drawn to the man that switched babies and told her that her baby was dead. No one will ever convince me that a mother could forgive that, let alone hook up with, or marry the guy.

So my preference, although I know it’s not heading that way, would be once and for all to have Sharon and Adam be only friends, but never a couple. It’s not believable especially under Josh’s pen.

I do love the Victor/Adam dynamic alone. There’s so much story to tell there, and now that Chelsea is pregnant, and he took the bullet, I can’t wait to see the Newman’s treatment of him. Good twist.

Amen and Amen!!!! I have never liked Shadam for the very reason that he kept Faith from her. I don’t feel anything but disgust when these two are portrayed as an endgame supercouple. Roger and Holly they are not..
And too bad Chelsea slept with Dylan so she can say he knocked her up, I wanted him for Sharon. She needs a good man in her life and that would be an awesome shakeup to Navery, Y&R’s most mismatched couple. Put Neil with Avery and Leslie with Nick.

Chavez is very annoying these days. I hope the actor is given better lines very soon to match his looks. Right now he’s just a cocky show off who’d be better off time warped back to the Dodge City of the mid 1800’s.

I really don’t believe any so called sophisticated police force would treat any suspect in the manner Chavez is treating the mad shooter and would-be bomber. And of course parading him around the “precinct” in front of the real possible perp is silly too.

But at least Paul seems to be forming some seedling suspicions of his own in the case.

Good point, tedew, good point about Alex. I guess I’m just grateful that a Latino guy is on The Show, that I am taking what is being given.

Even JoshG wants us to believe that Sharon has completely forgiven Adam, so it must be coming from SONY or CBS (that they be a super-couple). It looks like Josh wants the two to be together, watching Sharon’s bed-side vigil of Victor Jr.

I will give JFP and JoshG some major credit – the alleged ‘super-pet’ of JFP, Steve Burton, was no-where near the Ranch the night of The Wedding. That showed no favoritism, and some great restraint on behalf of JoshG/JFP. Plus, when I see every scene of Phack, I guess it is good that MAB is gone.

Sorry, I thought this episode was awful from start to finish. It was like “Passions”. So campy!

Firstly, Billy Miller doing an intro. Why? This guy has been there less than 5 years, and he’s the 4th Billy.

The hitman drops hints that everyone will die and Alex is like, yeah, whatever, dude, where’s my donuts.

Miller hasn’t been in the role of Billy long, but the character has been around since the late 90’s. From a character perspective it makes sense, and I guess they didn’t have Jess, Tracy, or Jerry do an intro since none were on contract, at the time.

And sorry, and big NO to Guza as co head writer. If anyone should come on it would have to be someone who is already familiar with history and character. Having Jill there kinda scares a lot of us enough.

I am liking Josh’s stories. So much more on track with Bill’s vision of storytelling.

Bob Guza…HELL NO…you’ve lost your mind, I’m happy with the pacing and writing for the show. If you’re familiar w\Guza his work during his tenure from GH….you expecting something of the style of writing for Y&R, think again not at Y&R. Maybe you would be happier sticking to GH, Y&R wouldn’t be your cup of tea evidently and Josh is doing fine job and have no complaints, maybe tiny pet peeves but nothing serious to object about at this time.

Y&R is on fire right now in big time way with good storytelling. :D :p

I do like the fact that Gus is on, Marcus is on, and Tyler is getting to do something other that stalk Lily. Let’s have a weekly dose of Fenmore, Paul and Alex doing some ‘Law and Order’-type scenes, and I might stop complaining. Maybe Nikki can take to drinking booze to combat her depression about her disorder?

Reading previews, seeing that the ol gambling bug is coming back to bite Billy, hopefully this means that a serious organized crime story-line is coming to GC.
