HomeTVGeneral HospitalJanine Turner and Other Stars Recall General Hospital Stints, Fave Moments! (VIDEOS) Luke Kerr March 30, 2013 General Hospital, Talk Shows, The View 22 Comments General Hospital's 50th Anniversary is almost here and it has provided celebrity fans and former stars the opportunity to share their favorite memories. Everyone from Janine Turner to Kelly Ripa and Antonio Sabato Jr. have congratulated GH on its milestone. Watch the clips after the jump! 22 Responses mfarris70 March 30, 2013 I’m really impressed how GH has turned it out for their 50th. A huge undertaking to get all of these performers together. Log in to Reply Nk3play2 March 30, 2013 Well damn it, this don’t impress me much…. Are these little clips airing on tv, NO!!!! This bullshit is on youtube and Hulu while Y&R is shooting small commercials for their primetime stars to congratulate the series on their 40th anniversary. ABC refused to allow Marie to have the GH cast on her show. ABC is hell bent on controlling all of their press and it will eventually destroy GH!!!! Log in to Reply Yoryla March 30, 2013 ^^ Nk3play, Doesn’t matter one iota. ABC has gone above and beyond promoting GH50. This is the best promotion GH has received from ABC in years! Many people are watching clips online whenever they choose to these days, instead of having to watch TV at a certain time and if you’re not there then you will have missed it. These clips have been spreading on Youtube and Twitter like a fire. And I predict the online viewing will only intensify now with the relaunches of OLTL & AMC. These are all well-known primetime stars, and if they have something to say, they are being listened to far beyond the soap world. Way to go GH! Log in to Reply TV Gord March 30, 2013 Is CBS giving Y&R a prime time special? No. ABC has one airing next weekend. Of course, that won’t impress people much, if they are hellbent on only seeing the negative side of things. (And as for Marie, I’m sure the GH prime time special will pull in more viewers than her roughly 180-thousand viewers on The Hallmark Channel.) I don’t understand why people think if there’s enough promotion and enough exposure, people will come flocking back to any soap. Most people have left because their lives are too busy these days and there’s too much else to watch on network and cable and beyond, and remaining invested in a five-day-a-week soap just isn’t as important to them anymore. We’ve lost four long-time soaps over the past few years. You would think more people would be grateful for any attention we’re getting outside of the world of soaps. These clips are a great idea (I can’t comment on them specifically, because I’m in Canada, where Hulu fears to tread). They are a nice bonus, and (to paraphrase my fellow Canadian, Shania Twain) they impress me much! I came back after Steve Burton left and I have been pleasantly surprised by this show. Gone are the days of the mob being center stage. The brought Anna, Felicia, Lucy, Kevin, Scott, Frisco, Laura and the Quartermaines are being seen again. This show with the current executive producer and head writer (who did such a great job over at OLTL for so many years) have really turned this show around. I have it on my DVR again. Log in to Reply Jamey Giddens March 30, 2013 Online video is netting tons of exposure these days. Ad Age has published story after story about how people aren’t watching TV commercials anymore. Heck, advertisers even put a good many Super Bowl commercials online ahead of the telecast this year. I say kudos to both GH and Y&R for their efforts. Log in to Reply nysam March 30, 2013 These are nice, BUT it would have been great to cut a quick photo or scene into these spots showing the actor during their time on the soap. Need to give context to viewers who weren’t watching at the time these actors were on the show. Log in to Reply J Bernard Jones March 30, 2013 I, for one, congratulate both CBS and ABC for honoring the anniversaries of The Young & the Restless and General Hospital, respectively. They are two different & competing networks taking two different and appropriate approaches for two very different daytime dramas. For those who are not “impressed” (on these and other boards), I ask if they would rather we return to the days when other soaps past & present barely got a mention about reaching their groundbreaking anniversaries, much less any promotion at all? I think not. Log in to Reply angrierblackerman March 31, 2013 People need to realize that television is dying in general, and online/digital is where it’s at so to speak. Putting something on Hulu, itunes, Netflix, Roku, AppleTv, etc is becoming as good as putting it on television. More and more people are shifting from on-air TV to online TV services. On topic though, I think it’s absolutely fantastic that soaps are getting this kind of treatment, no matter how small. A year ago, we wouldn’t even have seen THIS much. I am also so glad to see soap coverage on YAHOO, MSN, etc…which I NEVER used to see. A 30th, 40th, and 50th anniversary special is no joke, considering where the industry was barely a year ago, please consider that before you thumb your noses at any efforts to celebrate daytime dramas. Log in to Reply TV Gord March 31, 2013 TV isn’t dying. It’s evolving, along with all of the other platforms. My TV and computer have been integrated for a few years now. It’s all coming together. Log in to Reply DaytimeFan0001 March 31, 2013 Very nice. I see the women of The View continue to pretend they watch the soaps. Log in to Reply nysam March 31, 2013 @TV Gord….you are absolutely correct. Not sure where people are getting their stats that TV is dying. More people are watching TV today than ever before. TV shows are being viewed on TV as well as other platforms, but TV still reigns supreme as the main platform for shows. Log in to Reply tealita March 31, 2013 Nice selection of clips. Thank you. Log in to Reply logan_echolls March 31, 2013 I didn’t see anything for GH on primetime tv. I see Soapnet (a soap opera channel!) is running a special with special episodes. ABC is NOT promoting General Hospital’s 50th anniversary. They turned down Marie Osmond’s show. There have been practically no commercials like CBS is doing. Of course Disney is letting Katie’s show do a GH special. They own Katie’s show and GH so it’s saving money. I understand people are stans of ABC but people have to be realistic. ABC is not promoting this anniversary like they should. They have a majority of old school characters on the show. This would have been the perfect time to have Frisco, Felicia, Lucy, Anna, Duke, Luke, Laura on The View. Or on that cooking show. They could have showed up on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Unless y’all counting being on The Soap as promoting GH, the yes, GH is getting promoted like crazy. Putting these clips on youtube does not help. I doubt a regular viewer just decides one day, let me look for clips of Janine Turner talking about GH on youtube. Heck if daytimeconfidential didn’t show these clips, I would not have known they were even done! Log in to Reply Yoryla March 31, 2013 ^^ The point with these people is that they have a lot of NON-soap viewing fans, fans who follow just this person’s career. And when they see and hear their favorite talking about something they like or something they have done, they usually listen. And consequentally, might get interested and check out the thing they are talking about. People see what they want to see, and think what they want to think. If you don’t want the promotion to be good in your mind, then it won’t be. Log in to Reply TV Gord March 31, 2013 [quote=logan_echolls]I didn’t see anything for GH on primetime tv. In addition to the 20/20 PRIME TIME special on Saturday night, Katie will have Anthony Geary, Genie Francis, Kin Shriner, Maurice Benard, Finola Hughes and Kelly Monaco on her daytime show on Thursday. Also, Rick Springfield performs. Log in to Reply TV Gord April 1, 2013 I know DC will likely post the story later, but head over to TV Guide’s News site. There’s an hilarious interview with Tony Geary, Jane Elliot and Kin Shriner. It is honestly one of the best, most entertaining conversations I have ever read!
