ABC Calls Prospect Park’s Lawsuit “Baseless”

ABC has responded to Prospect Park’s $25 million dollar lawsuit regarding the One Life to Live characters used on General Hospital, calling it “baseless,” according to Variety.

“ABC remains very supportive of the online launch of both ‘One Life to Live’ and ‘All My Children,’” the network said in a statement. “With respect to Prospect Park’s lawsuit, we believe the claims are baseless and we will defend them vigorously in court and not the press.”

This dosent have anything with the price of butter, but was it said in the past that ABC can take those shows back? Where did I hear that?

if ABC is SO supportive then why don't they air the AMC/OLTL commercials with RH on them, are they afraid that people aren't going to see him when his new character debuts on GH

I wonder if Prospect Park for example on AMC wants to show a clip of Brooke and Adam circa 1988 are they allowed to do that?
Who has ownership of all the stuff that has been done already?

I support PP on this but I honestly think they could easily write their way out of what GH did. Cole and Hope are still alive and they can recast Starr and bring back one of the Coles with a new Hope. John can be recast and come back and try to win back Natalie or just let Natalie be with Cutter or someone else new. The Tomas thing was also never proven but was simply implied so that could be very easily explained. But Ted King is not coming back to the show either way so it doesn't matter.

Has ABC (or any network) aired any promos for AMC and OLTL? With less than 10 days to go, I was hoping for a television campaign of some sort.

Yes they are allowed to use old footage. Prospect Park owns the right now to everything related to these two shows.

And Prospect Park even used old footage in one of the trailers, one for AMC, one for OLTL.

This is complete publicity, though if it's not, PP is the dumbest company in the game because what they could of played off GH with cross overs for promotional purposes would really help promote those shows. i.e. Another World, Somerset, Texas, Port Charles, Night Shift etc.

my understanding was that PP didn't own very much of the old versions
, that's why both oltl ( and pressumably amc) have new logos+fonts
and new opening credit sequences( with new theme songs) entirely ...no?

No they could use whatever they want of the old stuff. But may have wanted to update things.

This lawsuit is stupid. Why is PP wasting time and money on this?

Prospect Park wants to create it's own version of both soap operas. They want to give AMC and OLTL another look and to appeal to a different kind of audience. That's why OLTL in particular seems to go after a younger audience.

The new logos and the new opening will stand for the new version of both shows. Let's make no mistake here. This will be pretty much new shows. They will feel different with taking a different approach in storylines.

They do own everything for these shows, they just don't have to use everything from the old versions.

Whatever your opinion of how easy it would be for PP to resolve the issues they mention on their complaint, at the end of the day everything they say is true; I don't think ABC have a leg to stand on and frankly I hope they lose, what goes around comes around.

That’s what puzzles me. If PP wants to go for a new look and revamped OLTL, why do they need 3 former characters so much? Why do they care what happened on GH? Dani, Jack, Destiny, and Matt are not effected by the GH happenings. The URL stuff I can understand but the rest of it seems out of place.

The lawsuit may be baseless but look at all the publicity. We are all talking about it. I truly hope this Prospect Park relaunch of OLTL and AMC is a massive success. I could care less about the lawsuit. There's already one network willing to air these shows on TV (Canada). Hopefully another network here in the US will follow suit, especially if the relaunches are successful. I hope everyone who reads this supports the relaunch. Best "back from the dead" story in the history of SOAPS.

The issue with the characters is that GH was only supposed to use the 7 they got from PP (Starr, John, Todd, Cole, Hope, Blair, Tea) on a limited basis fpr one year. Which they did not do & according to PP, ABC never informed them of the stories for those 7, which PP says they were suppose to.

Then there is a writing an arc around Tomas Delgado who PP never loaned to GH. Yes TK never appeared on screen but GH still wrote in the strong possibility that Tomas i actuality was lorenzo Alcazar a GH character, GH never had the rights to use Tomas.

That would be the same as Days bringing back Sarah Buxton as Crystal, Marlena's prison mate only for Crystal to reveal, My name is really Annie & I am on the run from Sunset Beach. Unless Spelling TV gave Days permission to do so, expect Spelling to sue SONY/Days and win.
