All FIVE Eligible Daytime Soaps Receive Outstanding Drama Emmy Nods!

They say it's an honor simply to be nominated, but is that still the case when everybody who could receive a shout out did? All five soaps eligible for Outstanding Drama Series consideration received Daytime Emmy nominations today.

That's right, The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital and One Life to Live will all compete for the top honor on June 16 in Los Angeles. Somewhere, Maria Arena Bell is practicing how many times to say "iconic", "character driven" and "Bill Bell" in front of a mirror. Sigh...

Y&R in no way deserved to be nominated. It had an awful year!! This is a smoke screen if ever I saw one. I'm going with B&B for the win.

Before everyone starts bashing Maria , I want to congratulate Y and R for leading all shows with all their noms. The actors and all the behind the scenes folks DO deserve their nominations. While not the best year for writing, even she did have some good moments.

Congrats!!!

How did OLTL get nominated when it went off January 2012? I thought the cut off was February?

Sadly none of these five soap operas were really outstanding last year. OLTL did what? A couple of weeks of 2012. Y&R was a big mess most of the time. GH needed half a year to find it's grove. DAYS had some good and some very bad moments in 2012 and B&B's only strong moment was Stephanie's death, who was handled pretty well but not outstanding.

Anyway I don't want to talk about the woman pictured above anymore. In the end she just isn't that important to this industry. She doesn't deserve the constant talking about her. She's history.
No one talks about the people that almost got GH canceled before Gloria Monty took over. I hope in a few years something similar will happen with that socialite that isn't an EP nor a good writer.

From what I recall, it's not based on the entire year's work, it's 2 episodes (4 in the case of B&B). That's all that gets submitted for consideration. Since OLTL had at least 2 great episodes during their final month, they qualify and that's my pick to win.

OLTL had two weeks of pure GENIUS in 2012. If daytime dramas can win the award based on one or two episodes, why shouldn't OLTL be considered?

OLTL submitted the cancellation of Fraternity Row I believe right? Or was it the Fraternity Row episodes?

I think OLTL should win. It's deserving and it would be the perfect FUCK YOU to ABC.

If OLTL wins, I will eat my shoe.

It's a lot easier to have 2 great episodes when you only have about 20 episodes...and all of them were stellar to most because the show was going off the air!!! LOL. So tie up loose ends, throw in lots of sappy moments, and then wham bam...give us a surprise ending....

But try writing a good show for a WHOLE YEAR like the other soaps had to do. They all failed MISERABLY...because none of the soaps were stellar in 2012...but I don't think its fair. I really don't. That's just me. Not to mention that even then, OLTL was just an "okay" soap at the end.

I honestly can't pick a winner. Y&R sucked from January to October. There were some good moments...Cricket vs. Phyllis, Nina slapping Phyllis, Ricky's death, etc....there were good moments, but the Shictor marriage seems to be the only thing people remember, so that's what we'll go by. Y&R won't win.

B&B was all about the triangle. Sprinkle in Stephanie's death..and they'll probably win. And from a standpoint of someone who doesn't watch the show...seeing two episodes revolving around the death of an iconic character, and triangle that has admittedly hit every beat possible, I'd say B&B has a good chance.

The GH that I skimmed through for 2012 wasn't "Gone with the wind fabulous" either as most would like to say it was. I seem to remember something about a toxic water supply that was utterly ridiculous, and yes I watched, before someone goes in on me.

DAYS...IDK because I don't watch it. Maybe it was good, maybe it wasn't. IDK...

Y and R's weak link last year again was its writing. Too bad since it got 23 noms...more than any other show...and almost half of CBS' 50 noms.

I think it's a toss up really.

Michael Logan gave his 2 cents recently on who would score a nomination. According to him B&B had the best reels. I think B&B will win again for Stephanie's death. It really was classic soap in every way.

None of the soaps really deserve to win in terms of being good throughout the year.

So the proper way to judge this would be through the two episodes that were used for nominations.

And by those terms I will say Y&R should win. They submitted the 9.999th and 10.000th episodes. I think they were nicely done, with lots of action, lot of the cast present, and it mainly was about Victor. Even though many don't like him, he IS a legendary, leading character on the show.

I'm going to go with OLTL just because I think it would be fun to see them win.

Wow. It's not much of an accomplishment when all those who are eligible are nominated.

What a joke.

I really hope it's OLTL that gets it. it just sucks that none of the actors got nominated. Sigh.

This is so sad and have to agree w\Yoryla none was spectacular TV viewing and as much as I love Y&R it most certainly didn't do quality soap last year. If any comes close would be B&B and Stephanie's death which Brad will probably take his 3rd...is that right?

harlee, Yes I think B&B might realistically have the best chance to win. I just wish the other of the submitted episodes would have been the one where Stephanie dies in the mountains, instead of two back-to-back episodes of the Celtic Women party. The party episodes were fun, but they didn't really have much drama, per se. They were just mostly about the performances...

I actually re-watched the two episodes showcasing Stephanie's party today, and I must say I forgot how good they actually were. Despite my earlier comments, I would say B&B should get the award for these episodes alone.

It really must be noted that B&B has very good production values. The lighting, the quality, the outdoor locations, the styling, are eons away from other soaps. It's too bad that the production quality isn't always on par with the storylines. It easily gives the plastic impression that "it looks good, but lacks substance".

Yorla...I agree. I think B and B looks the best of any of the shows. Since I started watching again I'm amazed that it has even surpassed Y and R, which I always thought looked damn good.

(Instead JFP has, IMO, gone backwards.)

But writing will always be the key to a solid show. I don't think any of them have both right now.
